Don't bother....I was a semi-regular before tonight. Friday night the lady forgot to run my card even though I signed and left a $20 tip on an $80 bill. I went back tonight, was treated like a dine & dash thief even after presenting and having my card run again. I then received substandard crabs and an attitude for my cooperation. Came here with 3 friends after a pedicure around the corner. The bar area is kind of tight but we were able to seat ourselves at a table in the bar area. Our server was the bartender and she was pretty attentive. I ordered an ice pick to drink (vodka and tea). There was hardly any vodka in it lol. White claw flavors are limited - only black cherry and lime. Fortunately they have surfside tea. I ordered hush puppies which were delicious, but they were served with a little container of cold butter spread? I would have thought they'd serve with melted butter. I also got an order of wings and they weren't that great. So much breading, not really hot, and not cooked crispy like I asked. Prices were very reasonable though. The ambiance was rustic and a very nice bar scene decorated for the holidays. This bar seems to be supported by locals and sports buffs. Huge tv's hugged the upper walls, grabbing the attention of patrons. Honestly, I was bored by being pummeled with sports. The young lady behind the bar said to sit anywhere, all there were was the hightops and bar stools, we prefer a low table, there were none, maybe way in the back where no one was seated. She brought over the 2-sided menus, I asked what they do well here, as it was our first visit. She made her recommendations, and my husband got the cheesesteak sub with French fries (upcharge). I ordered the chicken wings with ranch and celery (8 for $10.95), not bad! She said they were good here, also the hamburgers , I can't remember what else they do well, other than the crab cake. We did not order anything with alcohol, so I am at a loss there. They do have beer on tap and bottles. The cheesesteak was good, fresh roll and tasty meat. The fries were as expected, nothing outstanding. Just good for bar food. My chicken wings were not puny, just normal size and market value, had them made to be mild. This came with celery (quite fresh and crunchy), the ranch was poured off into a plastic cup. Both orders came in plastic baskets, and a paper plate for bone discard. Plenty of napkins. Have to hand it to them, in-between sports, they played music and they sure do have a kicking stereo system, really great quality. It was a welcome break. She did visit once to make sure all was Ok and any needs. All was fine. The bill came , I checked it and gave her my cc, she returned and the bill was altered and the price of the cheesesteak went up $3! Honestly, I did not say anything or check the bill against the menu, which was put away. I just chalked it up as an oversight on the server's part. She did not say anything about the price adjustment either. I can understand a mistake in the charge. Just say something. I guess I am overreacting at this point. Sigh. read more

This was a quick find to try something different at 11:00 AM. If you want a place to drink, to gamble, or do takeout, this a great place. If you want a sit down restaurant that's where the kudos stop. First the restaurant was so dark we used our phone flashlights to view the menu. Food was great, just don't order soup they won't remember to give you a spoon even after the food server said she forgot the spoon. Soft drinks are continuously filled. Food was great I just don't think $20 for a crab sandwich was worth the size and meat content, wasn't chunky or even delicious for being broiled. We were the only sitting customers they had. The shrimp sandwich I'm told was delicious. Will I go back, probably not, do I recommend you give it a try, Yes! Sit at the bar the bartender was great. This place is absolutely amazing. From the service to the food. This places atmosphere is fantastic. There is a guy with an eye patch and we sing David Allan Coe & Hank Williams Jr together. We were driving from DC to NJ and wanted crabs in mid-November. We were so lucky to stumble across this hidden gem in a residential neighborhood. My BF ordered a dozen large blue crabs, and old bay spicy wings. I ordered meatloaf and mash potatoes with gravy. Everything was delicious. Crabs were plump, juicy, sweet and meaty. My family has came to bird river for years, my family was in town visiting & we decide to go Eat. We were treated so poorly. The kitchen staff/lady kept attacking us because our car alarm went off. So we decided to leave & as my aunt tried to pay the bill the same lady from the kitchen got severely nasty with her. if I could give this place no stars I would. the service was terrible in between time, couldn't even get waited on for the first hour. I went there for HH. The drinks were good an cheap. The food I found marginal. The Md soup was very good. I also had zucchini sticks. They were heavily breaded. The cod fish cakes were ok. Bar tending crew are very nice, productive and pleasant to watch. We had some wings the other night and they were pretty nasty, overcooked and previously frozen. We came to Baltimore for the Preakness and where looking for a crab dinner. We picked this place over several other establishments in the area based on high review Yelp. I have to say this place and Yelp let us down it was not what we were looking for. First we texted to call to see if they were serving crabs and the phone went right to voicemail should moved on to another place at that point my bad Decided to try it after being greeted by several bikers some wearing colors at the door almost left again but decided to overlook the greeters and go in. The staff took us to back section that was great private and homey we had nice waitress that got us drinks and when we we ordered No Crabs or Oysters none till Father's Day we were told. This is my first ever review of any place. My husband and I have been looking for a local place that we can go and chill or watch a game and meet new people. I have been really happy with the bartenders they are all great and remember what you drink after the 1st time we were there. The food is another thing to come for. Love this little place but don't plan on the bartenders being any type of polite to you when they're busy. The past 3 times we've been in on a Thurs night, the girls don't even acknowledge you. We've sat at a table & waited over 20 min for someone to come over before we went to the bar (didn't want to just walk up w/ all the Covid restrictions & bc they usually come over to our table anyway) but when they did, we just got an annoyed "do you know what you want?" I'm pumping out a high rating for this place, but it comes with a caveat! Before I dive into this review, let me help you with some logistics. When you are facing the two buildings which comprise the Bird River Inn, you must only goto the building on the left. That building is the crab room, or crab house. The building on the right is a bar. It should also be noted that the kitchen and steamer is in the building with the bar, so your crab waitress will be constantly traversing the small parking lot/ driveway between the crab room and the bar to get your food. ...not a big deal, but we were wondering where the waitress went after she took our drink order! Ok, so here's the review... This place has zero atmosphere! ...wait, scratch that, if I could give a negative rating for atmosphere, I would. *THINK* crappier than the worst looking place you've ever been for crabs, and then add really ugly maroon curtains over dirty and scuzzy windows and knock everything down to the lowest level possible, and then you'll be able to get a feel for just how bad the "character" is at this hidden gem of a crab room! After your initial shock at how bad it looks, do yourself a favor and order a dozen crabs... If you order a dozen steamed crabs, you can convert your order to "the feast" for just 10 more dollars. The "feast" adds one pound of steamed shrimp with onions and steamed corn on the cob to your order of twelve crabs! When we went for crabs, we ordered the $52.00 per dozens crabs, and there were 4 of us in our party, so we got 2 dozen crabs. Adding the feast for 20 dollars more netted us 2 full pounds of shrimp and 4 ears of corn! The shrimp came out pretty fast, and as we started to shell these tasty fair sized goodies, our concerns over the severe lack of atmosphere at the BRI soon fell by the wayside! We loved the seasoning and the onions were awesome! Basically, we inhaled two full pounds of shrimp and onions between 4 people in just mere minutes! Next, the crabs arrived, and as I began to make quick work of my first crab, I again was amazed at how the maroon curtains started to look a little bit less drab, and how everything in the universe seemed to fall completely into place ...as if I had just fallen into an impossible seafood nirvana! ...And they dont force you to use the crappy plastic knives! ...only real metal butter knives are used at this dump! Needless to say, and according to the other members of my party, each and every one of those 24 crabs was filled with fresh good and succulent meat that was cooked to perfection! This was the first time we went here. Really nice place to eat crabs! The crabs were delish! They were reasonably priced. Tara who was our server was very friendly. She is an excellent server! We had reservations so our crabs came quite fast. We got the shrimp with onions and corn which was a great appetizer before our crabs. We also tried the homemade ice cream which was so creamy! My mom lives in Middle River and wanted steamed crabs for her birthday (in October) and we decided on this place nearby. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is cute and has everything you need for a proper crab feast. Let me tell you, being from Maryland I have had many steamed crabs over the past 20 years more times than I can count and from many different places but this place had the BEST, meatiest steamed crabs with delicious mustard in every single crab! It was amazing not having one bad crab in the batch. My boyfriend got a sub and we got some other food too and all of that was good as well. We will definitely be back! read more
