My boyfriend offered to take me shopping for lingerie so we bypassed the mail stores to look for a sexy babydoll or negligee at Birdie's. The salesperson immediately asked my bra size and tried to steer me towards drawers of bras. I said we are not looking for bras, but lingerie piece(s). Birdies is a small shop full of carefully selected, luxury lingerie. And there's a cute little dog sleeping in the corner! By the time Danielle picks things out for you, tells you no to the things she knows won't work, and makes you parade about the store in a pony-covered bra with hardware, you will feel like the sexiest, most elegant woman alive. A stop by Cellar Rat for a bottle of wine directly after is usually a good idea. It is, however, completely worth it. I recently bought a swimsuit there. I don't swim. I HATE swimsuit shopping. But I have also never felt so good in a tiny article of clothing. I read ALL of the yelp reviews before booking a trip for my wife and I in KC over Memorial Day weekend. Our trip was a romantic get away just for the weekend while the kids stayed with the inlaws. I wanted to treat my wife to something new and she (we) were NOT disappointed. We didn't have an appointment but were helped prompted and even had the place to ourselves for two hours. I saw "ourselves" however, my wife was on the receiving end of 99% of the attention. She had never been to anything fancier than Victoria's Secret so the initial "hands on" approach took about 10 minutes to get used to. The other 1hr and 50 minutes were a lot of fun. She tried on everything from functional to fun, to swimsuits and even an incredible silk swimsuit cover up. The ladies there made my wife feel like a queen! And yes, somethings are expensive there, a $180 bra for example (which was paired with equally expensive panties - which she bought the set of) HOWEVER, she also bought a pair of panties for cheap along with a $38 bra. We left with just under $500 of items. My wife has mentioned several times since then that everything she bought there is so incredibly comfortable and wearable, even the super expensive bra and pantie set, but that's usually saved for a special occasion :) Ladies, go here, I think you'll like the pampering and the selection they have that actually fits your body. Gents, treat your lady (or ladies), go here, go quickly, you won't be disappointed in what she picks out! I waited too long to write this and can't remember the owners name who helped us, but she was great, even recommended we try the Rieger Hotel & Exchange for dinner. We typically stay on the Plaza but wanted to have a different experience this time. The Rieger is not a hotel :) its a fabulous destination of fresh ingredients, local produce and meat. I have been wanting to find some place that would truly help me find the right size bra. After a bunch of research, I decided to stop into Birdies. I have hated bra shopping all of my life and have never found one that fits well and is comfortable. All I can say is this has been the best bra shopping experience EVER! Chelsea introduced herself and immediately made me feel comfortable. She effortlessly provided me with several choices in the proper size. She was super attentive and assisted me with straps and verifying the size was correct. She was also very complimentary and provided me with some items that I wouldn't normally have chosen. After I settled on 3 bras, Chelsea turned my attention to the selection of panties available. I was introduced to a pair of Mary Green silk panties which Chelsea referred to as their 'gateway panty'. Gateway indeed! They are delicate and luxurious and I will be purchasing several more. I've never been a "try it on" kind of person, but the saleslady begged me to try on one thing. After a lot of no's, I gave in and said I would try on one. Shopping for underwear is typically a six-pack thing for me (like I drink one first, and then go buy a six-pack of Hanes) but Birdies has changed the way I think about skivvies. This store has graduated from being merely fabulous to being ridiculously amazing. In his infinite wisdom, the K bought me a gift certificate here for V Day. The man has great taste, but the thing about this store is that while you can certainly buy gifts for your girlfriend, a significant part of what makes it exceptional is the shopping experience, so I think a gift certificate is the way to go! Owners, Danielle and Peregrine, and every other single employee I've ever had the pleasure of meeting all ensure that you don't just walk in and grab a couple of bras and sneak off into the dressing room to see if they look halfway decent under your shirt. Actually, it's set up so that it's impossible to do that. If you enter with an open mind, you may very well walk out with a bag of delightful things you never thought you'd ever find. Yet at the same time, you never feel pressured into buying. There are items for every budget, including pretty clips and jewelry made by local designers, as well as a scent selection and bags/purses (ie, gifts for those that you don't necessarily know well enough to buy lingerie for). So, they ask what you're looking for and if you're like I was the other day, a bit, "eh, I don't know, I like every single thing in this store, but don't know where to start... OK, I kinda need a swimsuit and I always could use another bra..." They will set you up with a couple things in the dressing room and keep bringing in stuff for you to try on. And some of it will make your bod look like it has never looked before. Really, isn't that what good lingerie should do for you? No Cathy the cartoon moments of sweat beads, argh!s and despair. Birdies proves it doesn't have to be that way at all. I found a swimsuit today that makes me feel like a rock star. I've had two shopping experiences with them, different people each time, and each one exceeded the last. They encouraged me to try on as many things as possible, made decent guesses at my sizes, then excitedly asked to see what it all looked like. Since I am a single lady I decided to treat myself to some sexy lingerie on Valentine's Day, even if I only wear it to clean my house in. Walking in here I felt like such a sexy woman. So. I snatched up the $50 Groupon for Birdies a while ago. Since it was due to expire next week, I decided to get a move on and use it today. I'd eyed some of their swimwear on their website, but it's limited and I was excited to see tons of choices in the store. The girl working picked out several pieces she thought would look good on me, and they DID. I was surprised at how good I looked in a swimsuit. She demanded I try on a yellow number with gold metal details and a swishy colored print on top from Caffe swimwear, and was all "NO!!" when I thought I needed a bigger size. "Keep it on. Check yourself out. You look HOT." Even with the Groupon and a sweet $10 off she so nicely gave me, this is easily the most expensive swimsuit I've ever bought. She reminded me, though, that I was doing something for ME. I forked over my card, gulped and headed out. But I tried it on when I got home and in the comfort of my own home, COMPLETELY fell in love with it. I wore it to the pool and walked around like I was at my own goddamn fashion shoot. Oh, Birdies. This is The Best shopping experiences I've ever had. The first thing to strike me when a couple friends and I walked in was the owner's outfit - it was so cute and quirky! Then, she knew our bra sizes just by looking at us, which I thought was amazing. I was on a long road trip alone and desperately needed to get out of the car. Driving around some of the smaller streets for a couple minutes looking to explore for a half hour or so I waltzed into Birdies. Its off the main path so the fact I randomly walked in was nothing short of serendipitous. I am a difficult size to find... usually I am stuck with the typical nude or black, if a store carries it at all. I was able to find a beautiful bra that fit perfectly. The women are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. One of the women there knew right off the bat what size I was and was able to pull a bunch of fun styles to try. I'm sorry, I hate to piss on everybody's parade here, but Birdies just doesn't fit the bill for me. I am a rather curvy girl, if you catch my drift, so finding adorable undergarments can prove to be quite a task. Well, I went into Birdies with ultra high hopes, and left with them painfully shot to the ground. While their designs are positively beautiful and just lovely looking, I found all of the several bras I tried on to be entirely unflattering and ill-fitting. If I'm going to shell out close to $100 for a brassiere, it better make me look like stinkin' Heidi Klum or something, am I right?! So, while I'd love to rant and rave over the product at Birdies, I simply can't. I will however speak extremely highly of the service and staff, as they clearly know what they're doing. Despite my crappy experiences, I'll definitely keep going back, trying to find the amazing treasures you all speak of. read more

Its on the pricey side, but ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT and that old adage rings true that you get what you pay for!
