Excellent choice of craft beer and ny-centric beers. A little too heavy on the blue point rotation but not a concern as the food makes it all worth the while. We had the hamburger/fries and the blackened chicken. The fries are really the big highlight with the the large sea salt crystals. Brunch has a free mimosa/bloddy mary which were both very tasty. The overgrown capers in the BM were a treat too! read more

Came here with four friends after a really long, strenuous hike near Breakneck Ridge. All we wanted was some good beer and great food. And boy did we get it. They have a great selection of craft beers that even some of the larger beer places in Manhattan or Brooklyn don't carry. I had the Bottleworks 13th Anniversary Ale, which was packed with all sorts of different flavors, stemming from an array of hops, grains and other flavorful ingredients. For food I got the shrimp and grits and it really hit the spot. It was a bit too buttery and the sausages that came with it weren't that great, but overall a great dish. My friends had burgers and sandwiches which were all really good as well. The place also makes their own ketchup (which is so so) and mustard (which is much better than the ketchup). The service was friendly, albeit a bit slow even though there were only a dozen customers there. The ambiance was also a bit weird with with the lights being way too bright, music being way too low, and movies on the projection screen being on mute. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, but I'd probably tell them to get there during happy hour when there's more staff and a slightly more happenin' environment. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Peekskill, which says a lot because I work in Peekskill! The food is always phenomenal, the beer list is fantastic, the staff is super friendly and fun, the ambiance is fantastic. The only downside is that when it's busy, the wait for the food is quite long (though worth it, in my opinion). I've never been for brunch, so I can't attest to that - but I've been there for lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. Got denied service at the bar (during happy hour) because my group had a table. And might I mention, happy hour is only valid at the bar not tables... first time I'm hearing it, and I wasn't even denied by the bartender, got denied service by who I can only assume was the manager... would not come back as there are tons of other places with better service and better happy hour policies in the area. And to top it off they only have ketchup that they make at the restaurant which tasted very off, was not good and they did not have normal ketchup. read more

This place is fine for a casual meal out - a pleasant little local spot. Not for dates or special occasions, however! Our server, whilst charming and seemingly attentive, was a bit ditzy - I made a point of telling him I was allergic to dairy, which he duly noted, then served me an appetizer covered in cheese! Also they forgot to provide us with knives and forks - we had to ask for them!! The food was OK - I did get a replacement appetizer in super-quick time, a beef chili which was hearty and flavorsome. My husband got the soft-shell crab, which tasted principally of fried batter, but perfectly fine. I got a salmon entree, and to be frank, I didn't really like it. There was too much going on, the sauce covering it was weirdly sweet and didn't go at all with the savory eggplant, and the salmon itself tasted strangely metallic - maybe just as a result of clashing with all the other flavors. This dish was just trying w-a-ayyy too hard! My husband got something super-dooper-cheesy, and demolished it, so I guess if you like cheese, this is the place... We sat outside, and it was kind of depressing - the grubby restaurant wall reminded me of a Soviet-era factory building, the bit of greenery at the back was all overgrown and neglected, the single string of lights overhead a bit sad to look at! Plus there's all the noise from the traffic on Main Street. Not remotely romantic, I'm afraid! The beer list is great, if you like craft beers. We didn't try the cocktails - they're expensive at around $13 each, and didn't look particularly innovative. Nonetheless - overall the prices are good, plus the service was friendly and quick, so I'd say it's worth a try if you happen to be in the area - especially if you like cheese! read more

I have been to the Birdsall House several times, and always for dinner. The Birdsall House has a soft spot in my house, as I am the first amongst my friends to discover this place, but I have noticed things starting to slip unfortunately. This time around my wife & I went for Sunday brunch and we were sure surprised...Let's get to the FSA (Food, Service, Atmosphere) Food: I ordered the brunch special, which included a draft from their rotation of superb microbrews. The only issue I have with their beer selection is the majority are over 7% alcohol. I can't get knocked out after one can I? Brunch was 2 courses, and 1st course was chicken liver pate with a cherry sauce & toast. This was very delicious, and the acid from the sauce really cut the fat from the pate. I followed it up with a housemade sausage, egg & cheese on a bun with fries. Their sausage patty was juicy with great spice. The grueyere cheese & egg were perfect, and love how they cut their fries with the skin on. Sea salt is a bonus. Very satisfied. Service: Service was good this time around, but on occasion it can be slow, and they frequently forget to provide silverware or condiments (if needed). Staff is always friendly Atmosphere: Hipsterbia abound here, but I don't mind it at all because it is dark, warm, & casual inside. I think there is original tables, chairs, and floors from original establishment. Not good for big groups unfortunately, I think largest they can accommodate is 6? But it was nice outside so we at a table in the sun (most are shaded with umbrellas). In the evening be sure to get a reservation because it gets packed quick. If I was within walking distance of the Birdsall House, I would come almost every nite. read more

After our lovely dinner there two years ago we went back recently hoping for a replay of our previous experience. Sadly, twas not to be. We entered a virtually empty restaurant and were told by gravel-throated beard man to wait for the hostess as he went back to his conversation with the only other person there-a bartender I presume. Eventually, the hostess appeared and took us to a booth where upon sitting down, I felt like I had just fallen backwards into a bucket and almost banged my chin on the table. Obviously, it's time they upgrade their seating and replace the springs and cushions. The tables could use a good sanding and refinishing too as I snagged my knit shirt on the splintery edges. We ordered beer, iced tea and a app of nachos. The nachos were swimming in grease, all the chips were soggy with it, there was no garnish of fresh pico de gallo or guacamole, just a HUGE lump of sour cream. The meat sauce was weirdly sweet with little a bean or two, but no flavor of chilies, cumin, oregano, cilantro or coriander. Ok that's how they roll, I guess. Then came our sandwiches. Reuben -good, but small with only an afterthought of sauerkraut. Lobster roll delicious but tiny for the $25 price tag. Fries on both plates were obviously cleaned from the bottom of the bag of precooked fries. None were longer than about 1/2 and inch, overcooked and cold. Ugh. Then we come to the easiest item to get right-buttermilk fried chicken sandwich-which was as wrong as could be. Served on ciabatta, the grease from the chicken had totally soaked through both the top and bottom pieces of bread. The chicken itself was dry and flavorless, the coating completely greasy, flabby and tasteless. The only redeeming ingredient on this sandwich was the generous slices of flavorful tomato. It came with a side salad drenched in dressing, or maybe it was just extra grease from my sandwich, I couldn't tell. Either way, I didn't feel so well after eating less than half of it. We took the rest home for my son to finish later, and he felt bad after eating it too. Yeaccchhh. BTW, this was a $17.95 sandwich and the others were more. All in all, $90 plus tip for three sandwiches, an appetizer, two beers and an iced tea is way too much to pay for this chintzy, less than mediocre meal. For that price, it's not unreasonable to expect a comfortable seat, a clean table, and well executed food, if not a table cloth and cloth napkin. Another thing, gravel-throat beard man should just keep his trap shut or learn to keep his voice down. He's so loud we couldn't hear the music or each other over his opinionated din from the depths of hades. read more

We came here after a long hike and were pretty hungry. The atmosphere looked really nice and they had an inviting backyard, where we ended up sitting. There was a good selection of beers on tap and we got 2 IPAs. Next we tried the chili and were pleasantly surprised. Our waiter seemed to forget about us a lot. He gave us the heads up they were really busy but it wasn't that crowded. We ordered the buttermilk chicken sandwich and the pork burger. The Burger was just ok and the fries were not very good. But The chicken sandwich was great, really hit the spot! We decided to split a beer before we headed out and our waiter brought us 2 beers instead of the one. They also had really great homemade mustard and ketchup that helped the fries a bit. Overall not bad but they need to work on their french fries. I would give this place a solid 3.5 stars read more

My friends and I were out looking for a place where we could grab a burger and some good beer and when I searched Yelp, Birdsall House was the first result. When we arrived, we were greeted with a smile and took a seat outside. Our waitress was wonderful and very accommodating. The food was terrific and they have an awesome beer selection. It was a great place for all ages and has an awesome vibe. It's also in a great location, right on main street. My friends and I will definitely be going back! :) read more

Very appealing menu and beer selection. The menu options looked appetizing. The cuisine was very modern and a refreshing change for the area. Definitely more of a menu you'd see in NYC and not in Peekskill. I had the chili which was actually downright awful. Honestly, Wendy's chili is just as good. However, my entree -- the blackened tofu burger -- was pretty tasty and decent. It was not blackened at all though. Not in the slightest. The sauce, veggies, and multigrain bun really made it tasty though. Everything is way overpriced, especially considering the location. Also, the interior of the place is quite rundown and in need of a good cleaning and makeover. read more

For the most part, I love Birdsall House. However this year's (2019) restaurant week choice I made of the chicken and biscuits was a gigantic letdown. It's really just fancy named chicken soup, with a single KFC style biscuit to the side. Compared to the other entree choices I should have made, (swordfish or short rib) this was the redheaded step child of the bunch. A decision I saw another diner regret as I walked past her to the bathroom mg and she was making the "meh" face to the gentleman she was with. Honestly, the chicken and biscuits is so bad, it should be taken off the menu. The silver lining to the meal though was the delicious crab cake appetizer and the sticky toffee pudding. They helped prop up the sad chicken dish. read more

Well after visiting the Peekskill railway and walking around the riverside park which was very nice Maggie and I decided to go to the downtown area restaurant for dinner, well we agreed on Birdsall House the reviews were not bad and when we peeked in it was pretty full so we said why not give it a try. We were met at the door by a nice maître d' who sat us at a table right off I knew we made a mistake well Maggie's chair was broken and I had to switch it out. We looked at the menu and it was basically pub food nothing special but ordered. I ordered the house burger and Maggie ordered the vegan burger and two IPAs. The food came out fairly quickly we were both surprised with that but my burger wow the chief must have dropped the bottle of salt into the meat my burger was so salty and Maggies was like a mush pattie, horrible we told the waitress and the reply that we got was "thats how it comes out but we can cook it more if you wanna". we ate both as is. Wait it gets better while we were trying to ingest our mush and slat burgers a fight broke out two neighborhood thugs were trying to fight with the owner / bouncer the thugs were trying to gain entry to the place and they were denied, well that didn't go over well with them to the point I was glad I was carrying (locked and loaded )mind you we left after the police had to make two runs at the location I wasn't hanging around for the perps to come back and shoot up the place. I won't be coming back. I'm giving this place sorry. read more

1/2/11: Update, we've been back twice, and the place did not live up to my initial experience. THe beet burger is still good, but we tried a binch of other things on the menu this time (being a party of 4) and 2 of our entrees were unedible, due to oversalting- I like salt, but this made my lips burn. ALso the Pork dish was chewy- pulled pork is supposed to be extra tender, it was not. The beer selection is good, but that's about all we'd be going back for. I recently stopped by at Birdsall House after hearing about it from a friend. Farm fresh to table is what it promised, and it delivered! The menu reminds me of Blue Hill at Stone Barns, without all the fuss, stuffy atmosphere, and exorbitant pricing...and only 6 miles from my house- I was sold- What an amazing menu with its, simple, back to basics assortment of high quality ingredients and something to please every palette. I was surprised to find such quality food in a relaxed, upscale pub-y type environment this far north of Manhattan. Everything I tried on the menu was delicious- I had the best vegetarian burger (made with beets, topped with sauteed spinach and caremelized onions) I'd ever had in my life here- I was pleased by the offering of wines by the glass, beer flight tastings, and scotch. The service was excellent and the clientele friendly. This along with Thyme restaurant in Cortland Manor, are my two favorites for eats in Northern Westchester without breaking the bank. I stumbled upon this place accidentally when I got lost driving home from Montrose where I had seen my grandson's lacrosse game. When I walked in the dining room was empty, but a waiter showed me out to the delightful patio where several parties were enjoying their meals. They served me the most wonderful Dinner of brisket over black beans and rice with sweet barbecue sauce. The service from Joey was kind and professional. What a wonderful accident. read more

I usually love this place for brunch but yesterday was terrible. I gave 3 stars because of past times, I wouldn't give yesterday 1. Me and my friends came at 2:30, we sat for 10 min before we were greeted and the server tells us we have to order quickly because brunch ends at 3. No problem we were ready to order, we ordered our brunch and one brunch item to go. She brought us 2 out of 3 drinks and asked if we needed another and we replied yes, we got one more coffee. To which she replied "well I only have 2 hands." Were aware of that but she clearly forgot the drink and we just asked. Also I know this isn't the servers fault, but the $23 order of pancakes I got to go were literally so burned that they were black.. I hate that I need to write this but I'm also a waitress, I've never been this rude to a customer.. every word she said had an attitude behind it. I was actually disgusted with how we were treated. First visit to birdsall has been good, staff is welcoming and professional, cutlery, glassware and tables are clean. beer is great and there is a wide selection. I chose initially the Imperial red "rushing duck kroovy" and it was great. Followed by a flight of "sovereign apple & honey", Irish stout "sly fox orielly", cream ale (which I did not like {however everyone has preferences}) "empire cream ale", saison "mystery brewery fukuoka" and finally mint chocolate stout "thirsty dog old choco" 4/5 beers as awesome. Some items are more than pricey for what they are considering the area and the dish. An example would be 16$ for wings or nachos with assorted toppings. Ordered the brisket burger as is rare. Only came with 5 pieces of greens. My fault for not ordering toppings however normally a burger comes with more than just that. It was great! Not lacking flavor at all. If prices were a bit lower, and a few things different it'd be 5 stars. Will come back again. read more

This is a great place to be. The food is definitely gastro. I'm all over the chicken sandwich and Calamari. But it's all really good. Oh did I mention Birdsall has 20 delicious micro beers on tap. IPA heaven. If it's sunny and above 60 degrees then get out in the beer garden or eat outside at a table. Really special. One last thing to mention is the Birdsallbrains. The staff are really friendly and fun. I really love hanging out with the gang. Tuesday evenings 5pm till 7pm we gather for pints and a laugh. Stop by any Tuesday. read more

This used to be the place I would take friends visiting Peekskill to. But yesterday was quite embarrassing. The service was slow, and lacking. Having to ask for water refills is embarrassing, especially when it is in a plastic cup in a "gastropub". The food was all great wings and pesto pasta but the portion of the pasta was embarrassing. I thought the waitress made a mistake and thought I wanted them to split the order. Nope, 5 bites of pesto pasta without protein for $16. I felt really disappointed and embarrassed. Not the emotions I was hoping for with dinner. I will keep going for beer because the selection is great but will be skipping dinner. Hopefully if I decide to try it again and it improves I will update this. For now I'll be exploring different spots in town. read more

Ordered the Blackened Salmon with fingerling potatoes and vege's for $20.00. Got a nice piece of salmon but literally they gave me only 3 fingerling potatoes and 5 sliced carrots. I kid you not! Nice craft beer bar with a good amount of outdoor seating. The decor is a little dated, but I guess that adds to the charm of the place. We spent an afternoon playing darts and then bocci outdoors. They have 20 beers on tap and over 2 dozen bottles. We didn't get any food because we had already eaten at the Peekskill Brewery but I'd be willing to venture out on back another weekend to give the kitchen a try. read more

We came here for HH last night, which never happens since I always get home from work too late to go! Kevin (the bartender) was attentive and very friendly. All draughts are $5 and all appetizers are considerably less than they normally are. We got the pulled pork nachos (omg yum), fries and lamb sliders. With three drinks and three apps our bill came to $41 before tip. The couple next to us ordered the calamari salad and it looked really good as well...I was so tempted to ask for a bite haha. If you're looking to try a few of their beers and pick at some great apps, definitely come during HH. Your wallet will thank you! read more

This place is ok. The good stuff: servers were friendly, house made mustard was super tasty, and the Ruben was pretty good too. The bad stuff: the poutine was suuuuper bland and had white country style gravy instead of brown gravy, plus was inconsistent in temperature throughout, just really bad. Also, the prices are way too high for what you're getting and for the location The Ruben was $17 and the burger (middle of the road taste wise) was $16. I think one of the main reasons Birdsall House is so popular is due to it's rotating variety of craft beers. It's a pretty fun hangout that always gets crowded, and occasionally they squeeze in a band in the front corner, making it more crowded, but still, just as fun. It's better in the summer months when you can make better use of their outdoor area, although in winter, they do have those fantastic propane umbrella heaters outside. Beers are good, and service is always relatively quick. There are booths that fit about four, but be careful you don't flip the seat over! Overall, I like it here, but it's always too loud to hear the person you're with unless you can snag a booth. read more

What a treat. We spent the day helping our son move. Didn't finish until 9pm. Never been in Peekskill before so we just drove down Main looking for a bar. Lucked out!! The restaurant/bar was busy with a full bar and most booths, but we got a table for two right away. Had a couple of glasses of wine and ordered dinner. The wine by the glass choices were very decent and my food was really tasty. Smoked Briscut chili and a Veggy burger made with beets, grain and terrific seasoning. Black and White films projected on the walls were really unusual and fun. Hostess was very helpful and the service was great. We'll definitely be going back on our next visit read more
