So far I've received both a deep cleaning and 4 cavities filled at Birdseye. I felt compelled to write this review, because I am so pleased with the dental work. I was a bit nervous about having my cavities filled bc of how many I had. All of this anxiety was totally unwarranted. I barely felt any pain at all when I received the anesthetic injection. When the doctor subsequently went to work on the cavities she was incredibly thorough and efficient. The entire process barely took any time at all. I don't write reviews often, but I am so pleased with the dental work that I felt I needed to give this office a shout out. I went to Birdseye for several years, but always kind of had a bad feeling about them. It felt like they were always pushing me to buy new things for no reason. But the main issue happened recently when I went in there about a partially fake tooth I had that I would like to get colored. They did their exam and told me they thought it "might" have a cavity. I said does it have a cavity or not? they said "do you feel like it was a cavity?" I said "I don't know. I'm not the dentist, but it does feel a little sensitive." They said "OK let's just schedule to get rid of a cavity." I didn't love all of that. Then I said I wanted to talk to someone else about it, but they rushed me out because they said another patient was coming and they had to use the chair. I didn't like that at all so I went to a different dentist. The different dentist told me not only did I NOT have a cavity but that my partially fake tooth was now fully dead and rotting and I had bone loss and if I didn't get a root canal, it could cause significant damage down the road! Shocked by this diagnosis I went and saw a highly rated specialist who does root canals who confirmed that the second dentist was right I did in fact need a root canal and there was significant bone loss. He even showed me on the x-ray how much bone loss I had! I have since had the root canal and I'm doing much better but I cannot believe how long I went to Byrd's eye dentistry and how they so obviously misdiagnosed me. All in all this place is not a good dentist and I highly recommend you looking someplace else. read more

Update: they reached out to me with a text that goes "I do apologize" and then, of course, goes straight to "but." They seem unable to understand why offering times that aren't all actually all available and then asking for more dates and times with no follow up communication of any sort as each date passed might alienate someone. I understand that canceling and rescheduling needs to occur, but they handled a need to reschedule with a very low level of professionalism. I was texted with alternate times, texted back within ten minutes, got told that the only time that worked for me was already taken; I wrote back with days and times when I was available, and I was assured that they would be in touch. No one reached out after that, either to find a time then or to make an actual *phone call* to find an appropriate time. If I can't trust you to do this basic stuff, I am not trusting you with my teeth. read more

I want to start from the beginning. I was a fan of Birdseye Dentistry. They were a clean facility the hygienists were good and the dentists were good. Then it was recommended I get a new night guard. I agreed. I had no reason to not trust the recommendation. A night guard is not a cheap appliance, from the form they provided me it was about 220 dollars. I signed up and waited for my appliance. It had been over a month and a half since I paid and still no word. I called to check on the status of my appliance. They put me on hold. The person came back and told me no one can find it. No one knew where it was. I was irate. They didn't think it was a big deal and then they said they'll expedite for a new one at no extra cost. Like they were doing me a favor. I put in a negative Yelp review. Their office contacted me. And that's when I was introduced to... Diane. Diane is their office manager? When I explained to her the situation she was very dismissive. She was making it out not to be a big deal and didn't understand why it was a big deal to me. It was a constant dismissive attitude. She would not even apologize until I laid out how it was all their fault. Then she had the audacity to say "We should use this as a learning moment." I am sorry, but what do I have to learn from this moment? Your dismissal your negligence? Later that day I was going over the situation with my insurance advocacy group. They saw some irregularities from what Birdseye claims insurance paid versus what insurance did actually pay. They said this was a form of balance billing - something apparently illegal in California. I called Diane. Diane who felt she had the upper hand very smuggly asked "Did you sign the paperwork when you paid for this?" I responded, "Yes, but there is a discrepancy in the amount." She then repeated "Did you sign the paperwork for this?" It was clear there would be NO conversation about the irregularity and she felt she won. When the appliance finally came the Dentist apologized profusely for the situation. She offered to reimburse me fully for the apparatus. When I left I canceled all future appointments Diane was smug and said "We can forward your X-Rays to your new dentist." When I followed up on the refund, they sent me to Suzanne. Suzanne sent me an email. If I wanted the refund I would have to sign an agreement. It read like a non-disclosure agreement and it had some threatening language in there like, if I did talk about my experience I would be liable to lawsuit. I felt icky about this. I asked questions to Suzanne. But I couldn't get Diane's smugness and how they tried to steal money from me from their suspicious billing practices out of my head. I chose not to sign and filed a grievance with Delta Dental. You can see they DID INDEED find irregularities. They said Suzanne would be issuing me a refund for the overcharge. I did not get anything nor hear from Suzanne. I called to follow up two weeks later. Suzanne was trying to get out of sending me the refund. She was insisting, again, I need to sign an agreement saying it was their common practice. That I could not talk about the situation. I told her I would tell Delta that they are refusing to issue the refund. She finally called Delta and then agreed to give me what I was owed without having to sign their incriminating agreement. One thing I learned from this, not a lot of people have the luxury I do and have an advocacy group to guide me. People do NOT be afraid to question and compare your bill with the insurance company. Birdseye apologized, but I believe it's only because they got caught. There's no doubt in my mind that Diane was never reprimanded. Honestly I think she probably got a raise for trying to deter me from discussing my bill. And Diane if you read this - thank you. I had a terrible Ulcerative Colitis flare that caused me to lose a filling, known issue with UC flares and the dentist chose to not replace the filling, citing a need for a two appointment root canal and claimed inability to structure a payment plan. When time for the first appointment came, the dentist was incredibly rough handed and after, a third multiple hundred dollar appointment was added. Recently learnt that filling replacement was an option from a second dentist and my tooth has been destroyed by this clinic on an effort to make money over proper care of my teeth. They pulled three of my son's teeth and filed the procedure under the wrong medical code, which was one for adults, not children. My insurance rejected it, they never fixed the billing mistake, it went to debt collection. I've never been to a dentist who's made this kind of billing mistake before. Dr. Millie Chung has cured my lifelong fear of the dentist! I love her straightforwardness and no fuss approach. I find this to be honest and relaxing. She's knowledgeable and informative when you ask questions. She's got technique down so I never feel any pain even when getting a shot! The staff are wonderful as well. Cindy is a stellar hygienist. She's the best kind of chatty and I wish I could chat back during our sessions, but I've always got my mouth full. They've got all the hi-tech gear in there. Very up-to-date office. Dr. Chung wanted to charge me for 500 more dollars to send for a crown, limiting other options for personal reasons. She then reaffirmed her decision was non negotiable, which was seemingly quite select in response. Does it really need a root canal? I believe the damage to premolar number 13 is coming from molar number 14 seen pictured noticeably angled, anteriorly projecting the nearby pre molars posterior section, and externally contacting the tooth, superficially. Also, premolar 13 has previous fillings thats been compromised and the surface surrounding the filling shows signs of penetration that may be present around its outer immediate void. Does the premolar need a root canal, and can it be filled by molding a filling without losing the integrity of the outer encapsulation of the tooth's cavity structure ...interesting question, -but I feel a "non negotiable stance" means the chance of searching for signs of sealing and molding the tooth is of inopportune interest. After discovering the same machine that made my crown in house, previously. I felt there was more to her non negotiable reasoning. I also think she missed an opportunity to be able to recreate the first impression that allowed me to return to her practice, even afterwards. I called to change an appointment due to an emergency and they still charged me a $100 cancellation fee! I understand that you are running a business in a tough time, but this was an unforseen event and a little compassion (for those of us also in a tough time) would have been nice. Their cleanings were rushed and they loooove to x-ray, but that wasn't really enough for me to switch. This felt like they truly do don't give a shit about their patients as people so I'm going to change dentists, which is a shame. read more

The facility is modern and clean. Front desk is very nice. They do have strict COVID protocols, so that's good. It seemed like they spent more time taking x-rays and pictures than cleaning. The cleaning was fine. I did receive recommendations that my previous dentist of 5 years never recommended, so I see where the negative reviews are coming from about over diagnosing. However, I didn't feel pressured to complete their recommended services. Overall, it's a nice, clean place with great staff, but I'm just a bit wary with their recommendations because I was under consistent dental care for past 5 years until I moved to LA. read more

I've been extremely pleased with the services I've had done here at Birdseye Dentistry. I had not been to see a dentist in 10+ years, so I was obviously way past due for dental work. X-rays were taken and I was examined and given a treatment plan with what my insurance plan would cover and what I would be responsible for paying out of pocket. This was all clearly explained, and I was not made to feel embarrassed for neglecting my teeth for so long. My treatment has been going great and for the most part pain free. Dr. Chung is everything and more!! Firstly, this is a woman of color run business and everyone who works here are people of color. As a person of color I always feel cared for. Even before the pandemic they would wear PPE and now with the pandemic they have made sure to make patients safe. When you arrive for your appointment they have you wait in our car or outside. Everyone wears masks. You sanitize your hands right when you get in, complete a covid inquiry, and then you are let into your room which has an air purifier that is medical grad. They have you rinse your mouse with listerine and when you are done they have you wash your hands. Before the pandemic they were all stars too! There is a great set up in the room where they have tvs for you with headphones and also the dental chairs are heated or cooled and massage chairs. There are also comfy blankets. Some of this is limited now due to COVID. The hygienist are great and check in with you while cleaning. Dr. Chung and her staff really care for the community and their patients. You will be seen and heard hear. I needed a night guard and Dr.Chung actually asked me about my stressed and offered some suggestions not just related to my night guard. I came in one time a little bit worried I could be pregnant, and they refused to do fillings, in case it could be dangerous, and it turns out I was two weeks pregnant so thank you for being cautious rather than just excepting any appointment! And then another time I had a bunch of fillings that needed to be done, but when they went to do one of them it turned out it actually did not need to be filled anymore, and so they told me on the spot - I could definitely see a shadier dentist just going for it read more

This review is way over due. I have been going to Birdseye for a few years and have nothing negative to say about Dr.Chung and her staff. They are all friendly, warm, & welcoming. The facility is extremely clean and modern. This is the first dentist office I actually looked forward to visiting. I regularly get my teeth cleaned and had Invisalign. Before making my decision on Invisalign, I was presented with the option of traditional braces. I did not feel pressure to choose one over the other and was well educated on both. My Invisalign experience was much better than anticipated. Dr.Chung made sure I was keeping up with my trays and scheduled frequent visits. Really happy with my overall experience at Birdseye Dentistry! This was my first visit and I received a full dental examination, x-rays and a cleaning. The staff was very friendly, and the technician helping was thorough with everything that she was doing. She gave me the option to watch Netflix, asked if I needed a blanket and also gave me the chair control that gave heat and a massage (since when are dental chairs this fancy???) . Extensive photos and x-rays were taken, and when Dr. Chung came in she explained everything in very simple terms so that I could understand. The dentist who did my cleaning was really kind, and also gave me a tutorial on different flossing techniques. I will be coming back to the office for a number of filling replacements - that I clearly needed based on the photos - but I'm really happy with my experience here! The space is super clean, the rooms are high tech, and I felt really comfortable with the staff. They send a number of reminders for appointments via text and email. First things first, I've never been anywhere with better guest service. Maybe the Disney Cruise Line, but no one ever compares a dentist visit to a cruise in the Caribbean. Until now. Her staff gives you lots of reminders to come in and they always put costs up front so a ridiculous, heavy bill isn't dropped in your lap at the end. Today, I had 10 cavities filled in every corner of my mouth. My appointment started at 8 AM. I arrived in typical Los Angeles fashion, 15 minutes late. Dr. Chung got to work on what was supposed to be eight cavities. Nine months passed since I had my teeth x-rayed and because I lagged on setting up my drill session, as she was filling the eight cavities she found two more! We decided to go for it! It was the most exhilarating experience of my week. I was sort of terrified to have this many cavities filled, but she gave me some headphones and I zoned out to a Moby station on Pandora. She moved her hands around my mouth like a medic saving a wounded soldier while running a marathon. When we finished, she walked me out and gave me a hug and made sure I was good to go. I was out and at my work desk by 10:45 ready to slobber coffee all over with my numb mouth. Dr. Chung is as swift as a sparrow, as wise as an owl, has the charm of a songbird, the eyes of a hawk, and is as graceful as a swan. Her attention to detail is impeccable. She's hilarious and loving and relatable and won't break your bank or be too pushy with add-ons like most dentists. I'm convinced the people in her office are the most genuine people you'll find on Hollywood Blvd. They make visiting the dentist feel like game night at a friends. I only write reviews when I have either the most outstanding experience or the worst. Dr. Chung is hands down the BEST dentist I have ever seen and let me explain why in detail. I can't imagine going anywhere else. - She is so genuine and caring!!! From our conversations, I can tell what a good and kind person she is, and why she loves to help her patients. I loved that she didn't try to sell me to do a big procedure. Instead she gave me the options and advised that I do the less invasive procedure first. - She is so thorough and detailed, my goodness! She explained in just enough detail what was going to do, why, and how to keep patients informed. Then I can tell from the procedure, she ensured everything was done to perfection as she truly cares for her patient's well being. - She asked about how I felt and if I was ok every 5-10 mins, know how long a procedure can take aka how long my mouth needed to be opened. I felt so taken care of. - Her staff was so great (esp Patty!). Always so helpful and sweet. - Her office is SPOTLESS! - They are extremely careful in following or maybe even exceeding the guidelines. They only allow certain number of people to be in the office. They sanitize the door handles every time someone touches it. - They called a day or two later to check up on me after the procedure! - They sent reminders so I don't forget (I tend to do that too much) They have a constant stream of patients whenever I was there, and no wonder!!! read more

The sign painted on the window says holistic but they do not practice Holistic dentistry which left me feeling disgruntled and deceived. I didn't want to spend my time, or hers just to leave with the problem in my tooth that I went there to emergency save. I'd had two other quotes for extraction, bone graft and post for SIGNIFICANTLY less then theirs. The male receptionist said something ridiculous that deemed them holistic. Like a thing they use in their practise is recycled, therefore they are leaning toward a holistic endeavor. With that one product .. misrepresenation. Insults the intelligence. I have been very pleased with my care here! The staff is friendly, the office is modern and comfy, and the care is considerate. I've had a couple cleanings, a deep cleaning, and a whitening and every service was smoothly, reasonably priced, and communicated clearly. Really wanted to like this place since I had recently had a bad experience at another dentist down in LA since moving from SF. Their office is super clean and really nice, nothing to complain about there. Their staff is super friendly and helpful...but their prices are insane. I have good insurance and they still wanted to charge me 270 to fix a gap between my teeth from a filling done wrong(from the other LA dentist) and around 100+ for each cavity (after insurance). I've never had to pay out of pocket for cavities filled after deductible, ever. - so this was a complete shock to me. I initially went in to get a filling that had fallen out looked at and repaired and I came out with a consultation (no work) and an option to pay upwards of 2K after insurance to fix all my 'issues'. And that's not including the implant they recommended for me. Overall super nice people, but their pricing is in no way affordable. It also seemed weird that I needed all this work done after I had just been to the dentist 8 months ago..but, to each their own. read more

I've lived in Los Feliz for twenty years and never found a dentist I liked until now. I KNEW I needed one, but it's hard to find someone who is available and capable. They are on time, thorough, very modern and every member of the staff is lovely. The rooms are private and equipped with televisions if you want them. The imaging equipment is completely up to date. Each decision they recommend is explained clearly. They all took great care to assure my comfort from waiting room to procedure and there was not an iota of upsale going on. I had a problem that another dentist had missed that was completely taken care of by the second visit. I love Dr Chung and staff. I had the same dentist for years and when we moved I fretted over finding a new dentist. I saw two different dentists in LA and was unimpressed with both, and then I took a chance on Dr Chung. Both my husband and I loved her! The office is clean and modern and they do same day crowns. She also referred me to a good dental surgeon to remove an impacted wisdom tooth. While we just moved away from LA, I might try to come back to get my exams and work done twice a year when we are in town for my husband's job. The scheduling process is really helpful, they send you a ton of reminders for your appointment. Dr. Chung saw me and was very thorough and sweet, and the cleaning was easy. The office is very modern -- they even have TVs with Netflix so you can watch while you're getting worked on I had to come back for a filling and it was about as painless as it could have been. I've been with Birdseye for 2 years now and I'm very impressed with this office. Dr. Chung is one of the best in her field⁠--an expert at what she does and it's nice to just leave your care in her and her team's hands because they know what they're doing. At first you might seem hesitant about prognosis and think you might know more about your own teeth than they do, but they really do have each patient in mind for the long-term game. You have to take care of your teeth since you only have one set of them! I'm all for this new way of thinking. I've had my wisdom teeth pulled at recommendation of Dr. Chung after hesitating for a decade, and now I'm glad I don't have to worry about them anymore. Also, I had several fillings done here by Dr. Chung and she did a great job of ensuring I wouldn't need a root canal. In my latest visit, I received a new night guard and she spent a lot of time customizing it for my bite, and fixing my old night guard so it could still be used. I appreciate all the explaining she does so I can help understand my own teeth better. :) The entire staff is very friendly from Dr. Castillo, Patty, Ivan, Martha, Alejandra, Jose, and all the hygienists I've worked with! They take care of all your needs and requests without hesitation.
