I was recommended to come here over the Summer when I needed an infection treated right above my front crown. The Dr told me I needed a series of root canals (which they actually did a great job with) and a new crown. I moved forward with the procedure, unsure of how heavy the consequences would be on my image as an artist I made it very clear that the new crown should not differ from the originals. I had a try in, and the first one was far off from the originals. Once this happened, it made me think that I made a huge mistake going here. I waited about a week and a half to get the remake. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I was on the chair, it seemed to fit to some extent. At the same time, I felt pressured and wanted to get it over with so I agreed to the new crown.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Over time, I noticed the crown was yellower, the shape and alignment were off which took a number on my mental health. Now I feel a misalignment as I once had a perfect set of veneers all due to a desperately needed dental emergency. As a professional artist, I don't smile as confidently anymore. DO NOT give this place a chance. The dentist here told me I needed to get a crown for a tooth that was decaying from a cavity. Said that it was so bad it probably would not be able to filled without breaking. They started making plans to do a root canal & scheduled my appts. BUT I went to get a 2nd opinion and my dentist told me my tooth barely had a cavity. They called over another dentist who took a look as well and said the same exact thing. The SMALL cavity was filled within minutes & I canceled all appts with Hancock Park Dental. Had I not gotten second opinions, I would've paid $1.5k at Hancock Park Dental to ruin a perfectly healthy tooth of mine & I would have never known. One year later and the tooth they claimed needed a crown looks & feels perfectly fine. Do NOT even think about going here. read more

Dr. Barzivand is, without question, the best dentist I have ever been to. Like many people, the thought of going to the dentist makes me extremely anxious and I'm nervous at every visit. I am also an absolute wuss when it comes to anticipating potential pain. Especially when it comes to dental work--even something as simple as a cleaning. That's all to say that I'm not the easiest patient to manage but Dr. Barzivand not only did such an incredible job with my teeth but also was unbelievably gentle, patient, and kind. I used to hate going to the dentist and hadn't gone for years. After going to Dr Wendt I actually enjoy it. Dr. Wendt used to be a surgeon and teaches oral surgery at USC. This shows when your are in the chair. He is so precise with where he places anesthesia that there is no pain while does his work and you don't have tongue or cheek numbness afterward. Even when he did wisdom tooth extractions didn't have to take any pain medication. Not only do you get great technical work, but also a dentist who cares about his work and his patients. The whole staff couldn't be nicer. With Dr. Wendt and his office you get great work, great results, great service, and great prices. -No Pain -Best results -Staff is like that of a 5 star hotel, not like a medical one. I have a love hate relationship with this office. I LOVE the staff here. everyone is super sweet and I was always comfortable during visits. I had a couple of cavities filled here and everyone was very nice, including dr.wendt himself. my problem here lies with the billing. I have very nice insurance thanks to my husbands job. we get 4 free cleanings a year with this insurance. yet each time I would leave the office, I would be billed, stating some type of exam had gone on and I would need to pay them some type of fee. this always kind of irked me and made ZERO sense, so when I finally decided to get my wisdom teeth out, I took the recommendation from a friend for a new dentist. when I called the new office to set up everything, the receptionist looked into my insurance claims and told me that dr.wendts office hadn't put in once for a cleaning, which is why I was being charged every time! they kept billing each appointment as exams. terrible. so thankful this new office told me how to get my money back from all these unnecessary payments. I understand that people have to make their money, but having me pay for things I'm not receiving is not okay in my book. sorry guys, I super loved you but won't be back. read more

I have been going to him for years and I have recommended all my friends to go to him. Dr. Wendt is meticulous and very thorough with his patients. He is a passionate, kind and an artistic dentist. I recently cracked my front tooth, and he matched it perfectly with the other teeth. You would never know I had any work done at all! His staff is friendly and kind as well. I'm very disappointed in Dr. Wendt's office and billing handling. I've recently become a patient at this office, because I had to get a cleaning and clearance for braces. I was told by the doctor who had recommended me that Dr. Wendt would take my insurance, was highly recommended, this doctor had been a patient himself, etc. I went to the office, and I had a long wait period after the scheduled appointment time. I was brought in for a cleaning, and after the process was almost done (by a technician), they sent me back to the waiting room for another half an hour before the doctor would even see me. He barely looked at my teeth, didn't really answer my questions about sensitivity, and told me that I had a pre-cavity, but only after the technician pointed out to him where to look/area of concern. I'm hoping this spot hasn't developed into a cavity since I've got my braces, as dental cleaning and treatment is sure to be more difficult. The thing that worries me the most is that after being told everything would be covered, I got a letter in the mail saying that Dr. Wendt was being 'restricted' by the insurance companies as to what care he could give to his patients, and that my insurance provider didn't want to pay his increasing fees, so he wasn't going to follow his contractual obligations set out with my PPO network. This whole letter basically says that after assuring me that everything was okeydokey regarding insurance coverage, etc., that they were going to start charging me copays and other fees to make up for what the insurance won't pay for. I then received a bill in the mail, for the same cleaning that was completely covered and had been paid for by my insurance. As people with insurance know, the insurance rarely pays the full amount. Dr. Wendt, after his letter, is expecting me to pay the difference, even though there is nothing from the insurance stating that I have any responsibility for any charges. (The breakdown for my insurance payments always shows how much they pay, and if there is a remainder, what is the 'patient's responsibility'--there was none.) So Dr. Wendt has decided that with this letter he wants to get the full payment, even if the insurance has paid for the same procedure/treatment provided. I feel cheated, in that I was promised one thing, and then charged another. Cleanings have always been covered by my insurance. If Dr. Wendt doesn't want to accept that, and their payment, then I feel he shouldn't take any patients with this insurance; it's that simple. I have gone to visit the office, but both times it's closed; my most recent visit (6/3) had them closed by noon when I went to PAY their fees. Their bill requests a check be made out, but offers no other form of payment. It also doesn't provide any description of what I'm paying for, like a statement would. I'm very unsettled with the way this business was handled. I know that Dr. Wendt and his wife were very nice people when I visited them that one and only time. I'm really upset in the way they are handling their business with the insurance companies, and how the difference is somehow the patient's responsibility. I'm not sure I'd like to come back. read more

Moved to L.A. a couple of years ago and was scared to get a new dentist so I kept seeing my old one back home in Seattle whenever I was in town. Was recommended Dr. Wendt by some ex-coworkers who all go to him. They said he's totally gonna remind you of Mr. Magoo but don't be scared, he's really good. So I'm thinking I'm going to a blind bumbling dentist, that's comforting haha. The first thing you notice is a wall of "celeb" clients who all seem to have nice teeth so that's a good sign :) He is a sweet man, squinty eyed and chatty, like one of the characters in that old cartoon Twas the Night Before Christmas. I started laughing to myself immediately, Mr. Magoo indeed! He's wonderful, he totally puts you at ease. It's a small office so they only take a couple people at a time so the focus is on you. They've got top of the line equipment, there's even a little video screen where they show you what they're working on in your mouth. Insurance covered my cleaning and I just had a nominal co-pay for the visit. Had a filling changed another time, no pain, easy in and easy out. Parking's easy, it's just under the building. You have to pay but it's not a lot, I think I usually leave there out $2 or so. read more

I have dentist anxiety, due to painful gumline issues, so even a simple cleaning brings on the sweats. Since 2000, I've probably been to 20 or so dentists in the area, and saw Dr. Wendt for the first time last year on recommendation by one of his patients. If he ever retires, I'm screwed. To start, the office is convenient. Parking lot for a small fee is available, but I save money by parking on the street and walking a 1/2 block. The office is clean, has a great view and the staff is AMAZING! Love Rosalee - she should win an award for running an office. Remarkable, kind, cool woman. Both assistants rock and are personable, efficient and professional. I don't necessarily get the Mr. Magoo comparison. I find Dr. Wendt to be so passionate and excitable about his profession, it's sometimes shocking. He loves his work, is always on the cutting edge, and LOVES to inform his patient (he's a professor, as well) which I really appreciate. He'll take as much time as necessary to help you to understand the situation, and all options available. I've had cleanings, refillings, a retainer and a few other minor procedures now, and I trust Dr. Wendt and his staff completely. No pain, no drama, great results, great people. read more

Dr. Von Wendt is one in a million. I found him through my insurance company a few years ago and he is by far the best dentist I have ever been to. Luckily, he takes my new insurance as well - although I doubt that would have made a difference. A great dentist is hard to come by, and certainly worth the money should you have to pay any. I just chipped my tooth at lunch and his darling wife (and nicest woman on the planet) Rosalie arranged for me to meet them after hours to fix it. They also have a very sweet new receptionist, and their hygenist (her name starts with a V, I think. I can't remember...) is so kind and she never forgets a patient. Dr. Wendt always lets you know exactly what's going on, exactly what he's doing to your teeth, and I've never been upsold on a single thing. If he feels like you only need a few xrays, he's not going to pressure you into a full mouth of them. He's just a good guy. I always leave with a big smile on my face and a greater appreciation of classical music (it's on heavy rotation in the office). BONUS - the office is a quick bike ride from my apartment. Again, not like that makes a difference. I'd drive 20 miles to go to this office. Love, love, love. read more

I can't tell you how elated I am to have found such a wonderful dentist and team at Hancock Park Dental... Dr. Barzivand goes above and beyond. If I could give 100 stars to Dr. Robert vonWendt, I would!!! He is absolutely AMAZING!!! He is soooo gentle and is an incredible perfectionist, taking his time to make sure I get the BEST quality dental work I could ever hope for!!! He explains everything to me and makes drawings and shows models of teeth and uses a fabulous camera so I can see exactly what issues I have and how he can fix them. And his assistant is really super sweet and efficient. If he ever retires, I just don't know what I'll do! I never want to go to any other dentist. Ever!!! And the staff is unbelievably fantastic! I really didn't understand my insurance and they explained it to me completely. So I just don't get those couple of people who had billing issues.
