Always an excellent experience when going to Birmingham Roast. With a smaller store, it can be more difficult at times getting a good spot to do work, but the ample four person tables accommodate very well and I am open to more of a "community table" style then taking up the whole place for myself. A couple of comfy chairs surround a small table and the bar seating facing out the windows are great. A couple more couches and chairs are just outside the inside exit/entrance door in what appears to be a vestibule between the coffee shop and the offices next door. The array of light bulbs above the barista area provide both an excellent amount of light and also a unique design that fits and works with the space on a high level. From the display case next to the register to the far end of the counter where your drink is handed to you, the whole counter feels closed off to the customers. Very tall, and even with myself being 6', I felt that it was more difficult to engage with the baristas. The whole place was still very clean and represented what Birmingham is all about. Latte time! All the way down to the last drop the latte was smooth and aerobatic. With a bold taste up front followed by a fast retreat of flavor, each sip ends with a mellow tailed finish. My drink, a baseline latte, was wonderful until lit cooled too fast and the last couple sips were cold(probably due to air temperature being on the cooler side). Birmingham Roast uses a La Marzocco FB80 espresso machine and though it may not be a top of the line best in the business machine, it is still a great company/machine and the baristas know how to use it very well by putting out fantastic lattes and espresso drinks to their customers. Ian was my barista this morning. First time there and he led me thru the menu perfectly. Telling me their seasonal offerings and helped picked out a breakfast item. The brunch wrap supreme was amazing and well worth the wait. The holiday creme brûlée mocha was a great pairing. I waited 25 minutes to get a piece of avocado toast. I paid 8.25 plus tax. It wasn't warm, it wasn't good. When we ordered a guy can behind us and ordered a breakfast burrito. He got his food 15 minutes before we did. I had to get back in line to try to get our money back for them to finally call our name. The what seems to be the manager asked us what we were waiting for, went to the back where the food is made and came back out made eye contact but didn't say anything to us about when our food was going to be out. Just continued working. Yea I get being busy, I work in food myself. But communicating to your customers is what I put first. read more

I'm not a huge coffee drinker more of a tea girl, so I am often hesitant that boutique coffee shops won't have a ton of good selections that aren't coffee drinks. This was not the case at Birmingham Roast! I had the best experience and the barista was very helpful in recommending the best drink. I tried the iced Honey Joy and it was the best drink I have ever had in any coffee shop anywhere in America. I highly recommend it! read more

My favorite coffee place in Birmingham! Love the coffee and the staff. Good vibes. The sign on the wall is a fan favorite. The fact that you can see into Lady Janes is a little odd but it doesn't put a damper on the experience. I love the iced Kuppa Joy! You can also get a latte with a picture of whatever you want on it. I definitely recommend doing this at least once. read more

I think this place is overhyped. It's made to look like a trendy Brooklyn coffeeshop. Albeit, they do successfully mimic an instagrammable eatery, with glossy bricked walls, motivational quotes, and "pretty" lattes. There are better coffeshops with ample space to work on a computer or chat with friends. Along with being overhyped, the menu items are overpriced. I tried the Kuppa Joy latte but couldn't really taste the "creme brulee" aspect of the creme brulee infused milk. It was okay but not worth the price. I was also underwhelmed by the avocado toast. There was way too much bread compared to avocado. It was also pretty bland, nothing special about it. Unless you really need a pic for your food blog or snapchat story, I'd pass. Stick with Starbucks or better yet brew some coffee at home. read more

If you are searching for a trendy coffee shop to hang out at, and have legit thoughtfully crafted coffee, this is one of the best environments to do so that I have found in Michigan, and ever. The staff is super friendly, they have a small selection of rotating food items (although, I do wish they had more options for food), usually pastries of some sort (ie. your obligatory seasonal pumpkin pastry). The aesthetic itself is pleasing, with a mixed environment to sit at, with an outside (no outlets though :( tear!) separate patio to sip and people watch as well as a high bar chair area with outlets and a mixed office environment with cozier chairs. I love all the lights/decor and how this was designed. In a way I wish it was slightly bigger so I could hang out here more! The prices are to be expected for the Birmingham environment, but not overly pricey compared to the Starbucks Reserve ($5-$8 for a coffee?!) and tasted amazing! The baristas have always been super friendly and helpful with helping me create a fun design on my latte before drinking it! Makes it even more enjoyable to have drinkable art! read more

Love their variety in flavors, but their drinks always taste like their loaded with sugar. Their coffee isn't anything exciting thus far. I would give it another shot. Maybe ask for less sweetened drinks. read more

Seriously some of the best tasting coffee. Slightly pricier so not something I am going to get daily, but it is definitely worth it. This place is so much better than all the chain coffee places. Brass and bright lights and better Baristas make this place top notch. It shares a weirdly intriguing view into Lady Janes but it's a smart joint venture, business wise. The seating is adequate and I loved their pour over coffee. I thought their prices would be nuts, but actually they were quite reasonable. Parking is ample around here too, so it's pretty good for a grab on the go. Try it! read more

The coffee was good. They could invest in some to-go containers appropriate for the food items they sell. They would also do well to get more seating. A small coffee shop in New York has more seating than this very large space. Nice if it's summer but fall and winter are much colder here. There's not place to put your coat. Just not what I'm used to in a great coffee shop. The service was quick, coffee was pretty good, the people are very nice and the food was fresh. Just wish the place was much more accommodating to enjoy it all. read more

What a great place to study. Not only is the atmosphere a welcoming place to get work done, but the coffee is outstanding! I love the seasonal Pumpkin Joy and will be sad when it's over, the the Kuppa Joy is also really tasty. Overall, would recommend! Also, there is a parking garage perpendicular to this coffee shop where the first 2 hours are free! read more

THE BEST COFFEE! We found this coffee shop while driving around one morning & decided to stop. The interior is beautifully decorated and staff is very friendly. The iced golden joy is so delicious! The only downside is parking is a bit of a hassle. If there's no parking out front, around the corner is a parking garage but that fills up fast. read more

Awesome coffee shop right across the Jax Kar Wash in Birmingham. Delicious coffee and some foods/yogurts. They have a picture press that they can press any picture you upload onto the Coffee Ripples app for an extra dollar. I'll never have a coffee the same again! haha. First let me say this should be a 3.5 star review. It's better than 3, but not quite a 4. Went on a crowded Saturday. Ordered a Chia Tea and a chicken artichoke sandwich. Tea was ready fast. And was very good. I had to wait for the sandwich, which is to be expected. Place is cute. Weirdest sandwich I have ever had! It was on the smaller side, but the ciabatta bread was very thick. The ingredients were fresh and it looked good, but the artichoke spread was not good, in my opinion. I could not discern any recognizable flavor but I did taste the chicken and artichokes. Opinions are subjective, of course. I left wishing I had ordered the apple Brie grilled cheese sandwich instead. I think if you find the right sandwich then this would be a 4/5 star review. LOOOOOVE their coffee! I was waiting for a good coffee shop to open in Birmingham and I think this is it! Got the kuppa joy (2 shots of espresso, 0.5 shot dark chocolate, and infused with creme brûlée). It was amazing to say the least! Staff was very helpful and the overall feel of the café is modern but cozy. All of their baked goods come from a family owned bakery and their Grandma's coffee cake was delish. Definitely will come back and definitely recommend! read more

There was an employee taking a break on his phone listening to YouTube videos out loud, too... I guess we're all just so used to this now. So if you want a quiet cafe to get work done, this ain't it. Maybe it's more of a Central Perk scene, with people meeting socially, all who liked the place before it became cool.

This is hands down my new favorite place to get coffee in metro Detroit! Everything from the environment, staff, and menu make me want to come back for more! Aesthetically, this place is very modern and contemporary with a super hip vibe. The kuppa joy is my favorite, its like a super creamy and sweet iced mocha, and their hot lattes are also amazing! So much better than Starbucks! Their manager Andy is my favorite barista in birmingham, and is always really friendly, as are the rest of the staff! Parking is kind of a pain, with the structure being the best option, but trust me, its worth it!! read more

Every time I try to give this place a chance , they fail me . In March 2021, I tried to visit to work on my laptop and I place an order for food and go to sit down and notice all the charging outlets are blocked off with tape. I inquire and am told "due to Covid". I left disappointed bc my laptop needed to be charging for me to work. Now it's May 2021, I try to give this place another chance. 5pm on a Friday I try to order a sandwich off their menu and I'm told they stop serving food at 3pm. This place is just getting to be too much of a hassle. Too many inconveniences. read more
