Wow! It takes a lot to truly impress me when it comes to coffee shops. I worked in the coffee industry for four years and sampled a lot of coffee, and visiting coffee shops as a hobby/weekend activity. Southeast Michigan is home to some fantastic coffee shops, but I think this one really takes the cake! I love the simplistic menu, wonderful food selection, and the welcoming atmosphere the baristas create. I ordered a cold brew with soymilk (a veritable UNICORN these days!) and was thrilled when they said they carried the alternative milk! I have an oat allergy, so oatmilk is a no-go. The cold brew is wonderfully smooth and well-rounded. The sure fire tell of an excellent and experienced barista is when they hold up your cold brew and ask how much milk you would like. That is what you can expect here. I also asked after their gluten-free and vegetarian lunch items (I have a gluten allergy), and they were able to turn one of their wraps into a gluten-free sandwich. Not only is the coffee and tea here delicious, but the aesthetic environment is worth the trip by itself! The baristas here are really helpful and are good at recommending things based off of your preference. I was also recently surprised that the food here is next to gourmet! It is beautifully presented and equally delicious. Everything in this place is great, with the exception of the male barista that has a terrible attitude, when I asked for half and half he just pointed with his finger and then I explained him that there was nothing there, he just gave me the bottle of whole milk, so I asked for a 3rd time for half and half and his answer was "if you don't see the bottle there we don't have", with the worst attitude. read more

Quality brewed coffee. In fact, I prefer this place over the newly opened Starbucks Reserve down the street. I'm not too sure about the other choices, but my order of Almond Joy coffee, came with cream and sugar already incorporated....which honestly I have no qualms about. I come here often. Decent coffee, I'd say 8/10. The food here is very good but pricy. I like the banana bread and the quinoa salad from the cooler window. The almond butter bar is also amazing. My complaints are that there is a large lack of seating and outlets. They really only have 3 tables with outlets that are comfortable for studying. The bar is too small, the front seating has no outlets, and the couches so not either. Also, there is only one bathroom and this is a very busy place. The workers are USUALLY nice but there are some that are not friendly. read more

Coffee tastes delicious. The place is new and well kept with a modern vibe. It's a little confusing with the computer and meeting tables but I'm sure they use them for different purposes. Best coffee shop in town! They have the best selection of coffee and tea, and their pour overs are absolutely delicious. The prices are very nice... lots better than a chain like Starbucks (not to mention SB's coffee tastes like chemicals and battery acid compared to BR). Their quality is great and they pride themselves in their work. My dad and I come here every week because of how great BR is! Located across the street from Jax and adjacent to Lady Jane's. Delicious drinks and excellent ambiance. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor tables have built in chargers making it ideal to work. I got the iced Kuppa ("cup of") Joy and my friend got the hot Golden Joy. The Kuppa Joy reminds me of a Vietnamese coffee. The Golden Joy is off menu and includes caramel instead of dark chocolate like the Kuppa Joy. Indulge. Wake up, drink coffee, be awesome, repeat. read more

I went to this coffee shop looking for something more original and exciting than your typical starbucks run. I was very excited when I got there because the atmosphere was amazing. There were cool lights and displays of the coffee, and the way they give you the original roast is truly unique. I ordered a latte and was disappointed when I realized how bitter my latte was. I added sweetener but it just didn't taste right. The coffee wasn't good but the atmosphere was, so it's 3 stars from me. read more

Starting off with the food, they had really good items. We got the frittata and the banana bread both of which were great. The frittata has spinach which can sometimes "water" it down but I found that this one had a lot of flavor. The service was also good, no issues there. The coffee was kinda the weak point. First we ordered iced lattes and saw that they pulled them directly into the plastic cups. With people's concerns including mine regarding plastics leaching into beverages they really should have pulled the shot into a separate shot glass, filled the plastic cup with milk then dropped the shot in. Also, the latte was very weak. Those two thing, this being a coffee shop gave it the 3 stars. Think if they worked on those couple of things it would be a great new addition to Birmingham. read more

Excited to try this new place BUT was so disappointed. The coffee was just ok. The bagels were either day old or just not great. My husband got a bagel with salmon and it was $12. No big deal if it's good, but it was just meh. Between his latte and bagel and tip it was $20. I ordered a bear claw and was not like any other I've ever had. No real amount of brown sugar, etc. Almost seemed like one out of a cellophane wrapper. I let everyone try it and all agreed ~ not good. Our usual go to on Sundays is Avalon. We went again this week and their homemade biscuit with salmon was $4.25, much larger and more delish!! $12 -vs- $4.25, and no comparison on the taste. Red Hook/Pin Wheel Bakery has amazing coffee, pastries and biscuit sandwiches for around $5-6. I really wanted to like this local, walkable from my house, coffee spot---but I'll be driving to Avalon or Red Hook for more delicious selections and WAY less expensive choices. And folks it's not about the high prices. I'm all about paying for good food. read more

Went to Birmingham Roast yesterday, for the first time and it's my new favorite spot. I decided to run in quickly before a event. I ordered a iced almond joy and it was delicious!! It reminded me of chocolate milk. The atmosphere is so nice, the interior is nice as well. The baristas were awesome. I wish I could remember my baristas name he was cool. Yes, I'm boring; yes, I got an iced Kuppa Joy; yes, it was great. I also hung out there for a while and saw the staff being consistently friendly and even go check for someone outside when no one responded to an order at the pick up counter. As a new and popular place, plus with it being the weekend when I went there, it got a bit crowded as the morning went on, and maybe it could use more space, but it seemed like a decent size for the coffee shop it is. It was also a good place to get a bit of drawing or writing done. I'll certainly be back. I want to try more of their drinks, though it'll be hard to not just order another Kuppa Joy. read more

The best real coffee in the area, it compares to something like la colome or other high end coffee houses. While they don't have as wide of a selection of flavored and complicated coffees or non coffee beverages as something like Starbucks, it feels more warm. You can chat with your barista and sit for a while and just relax. And the food is amazing. I didn't even realize they had a food menu until recently(and I've been coming since it opened) it's what makes bham roast such a great spot. The turkey sandwich rivals any I've had in my life, and the smoothies taste fresh and real. Overall great real coffee and a pleasant, warm atmosphere. read more

I had an overall great experience. Caleb was friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed a Mexican Mocha which has a bit of chocolate and hint of cinnamon. It was really great coffee, however, they need better to go cups. Every time I took a sip of coffee it dropped on me. I had the lid away from the cup seam and it didn't make a difference. I prefer it to Starbucks but they need to open earlier and be able to order online like Starbucks so we don't have to wait in the morning. Also, they need to do something about parking or even an option of someone bringing the to go cups out. read more
