The last time I came by after 6 p.m., they had already sold out of the Garlic Shrimp and Chipotle Pineapple Pork--the two meats I was there to try. This time, I got the chance. I ordered the Queso Tacos, which come with three tacos and your choice of meat (fish and shrimp are available for an additional charge). They're topped with sour cream, Parmesan cheese, onions, and cilantro. Unfortunately, the tacos were only ok. The Chipotle Pineapple Pork was a bit too salty and oily. The Garlic Shrimp was also disappointing. The shrimp had become soft instead of having a nice bite, the shells were mushy, and the generous amount of sour cream overpowered the flavor. I was hoping for a little more texture and crispness. I also tried both the green and red salsas, but neither one stood out to me, as they were both pretty mild and didn't add much flavor to the tacos. They don't take care of their customers and I have been ordering from them for years. I was a loyal customer. I placed an order from them online (Door Dash) on April 24th for $100.87. They message me in the Door Dash app and stated "sorry we have no more fries". So then I call them and tell them to just cancel my order since more than half my order contained fries. I asked about how they were going to go about refunding my order and the lady who spoke very limited English said don't worry about the money, the manager will take care of it tomorrow. So I call the next day and ask for the manager but he wasn't there. I called again for the next few days and again the manager wasn't in. So then I told them the situation again and they said they would call the manager and get back to me. I ultimately was given the cell phone number of the owner Arturo. He told me he would give me a store credit to use on a future order and would leave it here for me to pick up and just tell the employees my name. By the time I was able to go into the store (I have irregular work schedule), the lady working said there was no card or credit waiting for me. She called the owner and then told me that he took it back since I wasn't there that same day and didn't want to leave it there. So then I said that's fine I will just reach out to him since I have his number and coordinate the next time. Now a couple weeks has gone by since I attempted to pick up the credit in store. I texted Arturo on May 29th asking, "Hi Arturo, this is Bryant. What day/time would be good for me to come pick up the gift card/credit?". He replied back 2 minutes later, "Hey man, can you stop by this Sunday?" I replied back "Yeah that works, what time?"... no reply. I tried reaching out again June 27th, June 28th, and today July 7th. We decided on the Birria Grilled Cheese, Quesabirria Tacos with Consume and a side of French fries. There's a few tables inside to sit at. They were dirty. The floors were pretty dirty as well. The service was slow. The tacos weren't served with the consume so we had to go back and ask. They acted like they didn't know what we were talking about. I was surprised to find that this location is inside the Shell gas station. The inside is alright due to the location. They have some tables, but the environment is inviting. Great to just take your order home, or eat in the car, or order delivery. I saw that they do online orders. Stopped in during their last hour before closing on a Saturday night, and they were understandably out of birria and consome, garlic shrimp, etc. BUT they did still have chicken, marinated pork, and the seared steak. I was in Elk Grove for work and was lucky enough to try this amazing find. One of the people I was working with said it was delicious and she wasn't wrong! This place did not disappoint. I ordered the crunch wrap with birria... with the cheese and sour cream and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious and crunchy it all was. I was slightly worried using birria it would be so wet that it would make the rest of it soggy but much to my delight it was perfect. I don't speak Spanish so it was a little hard understanding the cashier, but we figured it out. She was nice and worked with my lack of Spanish. I got the #1 with chicken, asada, and pork. I must say...it was fresh and pretty quick. All were tasty and the price was nice at $12 for 3 tacos! I appreciate having a solid meal at a decent price point. I would never think I'd find good food inside a gas station; Birria Boys is located inside the Shell Gas Station off of EG Blvd. I tried the Street Tacos and the Quesa Tacos, both with birria. The Quesa tacos are very greasy/flavorful. I liked both, but taste-wise I preferred the Quesa. Health-wise, the street tacos are probably preferred. They pack the street tacos with a good amount of meat too. Anyways, I'm not used to a lot of sodium, so I was dehydrated after eating, but that's just me. In case anyone's wondering, they do have a Taco Tuesday deal. I didn't go there on a Tuesday, but there's a sign on the station that says they have a deal (buy three tacos, get one free). First time trying this spot after yelping for a highly rated Mexican restaurant. Shared space at the gas station store. Not busy when I got there around 4 something on Friday. I ordered the function pack that came with 2 quesa tacos, a super burrito, and a fountain drink. I also added an extra quesadilla burrito for an additional $4 and consome for an additional $4. The super burrito was smaller than I expected for a super burrito but it was delicious and flavorful . I got the pineapple pork for the burrito and it came with a line and the red salsa. It is a small restaurant set up inside a shell gas station located in Elk Grove. While I was very excited to try the Birria tacos, I was informed it was done. The time was 5:54 and I believe they close around 9 so that was a bummer. When you see the name "Birria" infront of the names restaurant you'd assume they have enough to keep going all the way through especially knowing they are in popular demand. So I said okay, I love me a good California burrito especially with some steak and shrimp ,, welp No shrimp either or chicken Lol huge minus (I suggest calling ahead to make sure they have enough protein left) So I got a regular California burrito with steak. I have no complaints about the burrito tho it was perfectly equal parts of everything from protein to fries and garnishes everything was very well seasoned and tasted amazing. Only downside is I always love a burrito with a few different type o sauces which in this case I only got one green salsa that again had a good flavor but I'd expect atleast 2 sauces for the size burrito I live in the Bay Area so the drive is a bit far off but I will definitely update review when I get a chance to come back and try the Birria tacos. Choose the type of dish (taco, burrito, plate, ramen, etc). Step 2 is choosing your protein. Step 3 is personalizing the toppings. I actually like a simple menu so I'm not overwhelmed with too many options. My party ordered a seared steak plate with rice and beans, garlic bread grilled cheese with surf & turf and a slow braised burria super burrito. The order was repeated back before completing the order. There were a couple of tables and chairs but I think most people take the food to-go. I also noticed most customers picking up orders that they ordered via a phone call. Next time I'll probably do that too. But my order was prepared pretty quick. Unfortunately when we got home we realized the tortillas were missing for the plate. As another helper mentioned, it would be wise to check your orders before leaving. Again this place is one of my favs in Elk Grove but they continue to run out of green salsa and that's a problem for me and my circle. It's an absolute must have. I really wanted an authentic taco with a jalapeño because I seen it on the photos online. We ordered the 3 birria taco plate and a burrito. We had to wait quite a while for the tacos to come out. There just wasn't enough people to take orders and make the food in a timely fashion. We ordered no sour cream for the birria tacos, as the person I was with is lactose intolerant (and I just don't like sour cream) only to get our taco plate and find out they put sour cream on every taco. BUT, they were very apologetic and offered to redo our entire order. I chose to eat the tacos with sour cream and they made my friend 1 taco with no sour cream. I always come here for Birria tacos but lately their customer service sucks and their food is getting worse. First, the tacos are not crispy anymore. Usually they are crispy even when it takes me five minutes to get home. Every order always comes with a grilled jalapeño but they never have any jalapeños lately. What's up with that? Tacos were crispy, cheesy, with super tender beef and solid consomé for dipping. Not too greasy, good flavor kick without being overwhelming. The Dunkin' was cheesy heaven with plenty of meat.
