was looking forward to this restaurant opening. went yesterday and was so underwhelming, first ordered a Margherita that tasted like it was straight out of a premixed bottle and had no alcohol. I had to make confirm with my waiter that it wasn't a mocktail because I had ordered a mocktail for my mom. For our food we ordered chicken enchiladas that seemed half hollow and dry. My parents ordered chicken tacos that looked good but the chicken was dry as styrofoam. the sauces served with our main entree were served in plastic to-go containers. the service was mediocre. our server seemed rushed. I think I had better service at Chevys. all in all I don't think I would return. read more

The customer service is top-notch--everyone here is so welcoming and genuinely friendly, which makes the whole experience feel like home. The drinks are excellent, and I was especially impressed with their own craft beer that's distilled right in Watsonville--such a cool, local touch that really sets them apart. The vibe is warm, inviting, and perfect for hanging out with friends or bringing the family. Even though this place is still fairly new, they're already doing everything right. had QUESABIRRIA TACOS. they were good as well as the consommé sauce. what i didn't like was that l was told that their tv sound would be raised when the 49er game started. it was on mute when I arrived and when I asked if the sound would be unmuted when the game started I was told it would be. well, after ordering and eating I was told by management that they didn't have a license to play sound (???). what? every other restaurant in Gilroy has game sound TMK. this is obviously not a spot to visit if you plan on watching a game. why even have TVs in the wall then? disappointed. read more

I almost never write reviews, but this restaurant absolutely earned one. From start to finish, it exceeded every single expectation I had. I ordered the Birria Burger and (no exaggeration) it was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. The portions were huge, the prices were more than fair, and the ambience was perfect for a birthday celebration. The servers were also very attentive and friendly. Place is nice service is good but the food is way too pricey it doesn't have any flavor. Some people say to go on the weekends which probably is better but during the week in my experience hasn't been good. The birria ramen tastes like it was boiled with sink water and just got some meat thrown in. The food was good and it came out FAST, It's nice inside, and has a lot of space. However I give it 3 stars because the waiter we had really didn't care to answer my questions. My wife is allergic to avocado and we always ask wherever we go if anything with a green salsa is made with avocado. The waiter kept saying he didn't believe it did, I asked if he could check due to the allergies and he said yes and never came back with an answer. Then our food was out and there was another green salsa and we asked another worker if it contained avocado and he said he wasn't sure, so I said "ok" and asked my waiter when he came to the table. His response again was he didn't believe so, that it likely was just tomatillo and cilantro but that he would double check. He in-fact didn't go double check because right after that he was just standing by the bar. read more

Went in with my boyfriend. The portions were very small. I got enchiladas and they were sloppy there was salsa smeared everywhere even on the sides and bottom of the plate. My boyfriend ordered empanadas and he said they were really good but the plate only came with 2 and the photo clearly displayed 2 and fries. When we asked the waiter he stated they came with the fries and were pictured in the photo. After food arrived he stated they were the wrong photo and doesn't come with fries. Service was not too bad but definitely bad plate appearance when the plates are smeared all over the place and food quality was way different from Castroville. May just be this location since portions seem way bigger in castroville and the food taste so much better. read more

Dining at Birrieria Coalcoma My wife & I decided to try Birrieria Coalcoma for lunchy dinner. Birrieria Coalcoma is located at where Chevy's used to be. The restaurant was about 60% full at 4PM on Saturday 9/27/25. We were seated right away. Robert, our server, brought chips and salsa. He sat down with us to go over the menu. Which I'm glad he did, as the menu is about 90% in Spanish. Well, OK. But you're leaving out a whole lot of the rest of Gilroy who may not speak Spanish. I ordered the Enchiladas de Pollo, and my wife had the Shrimp Empanadas. We also ordered Tea for my wife & I had lemonade. By the time chips and salsa were devoured (mildly spicy, which is good for us; not so much for someone who likes spicier), our order had arrived, which was VERY fast. Wow. The food, while fast in arriving, was underwhelming in taste and plating. My plate arrived with 4 enchiladas drizzled in light crème and cheese, a whole cooked Jalapeno chili pepper, and shredded lettuce, 2 slices of tomato and white onion rings (as the salad? No dressing?). My wife's plate came with 2 empanadas, French fries, 2 slices of tomatoes on a bed of shredded purple cabbage, and ¼ of an avocado sliced. No salad dressing. We were not impressed. Now, what I was told later by Robert our server, was that this is more traditional meal of Mexican cuisine. Yeah, well OK. I'm used to seeing beans & rice on the plate. But me being an Anglo gringo, what do I know. Also, silverware set did not come with a knife. My wife got up from her seat to get one. I usually cut each enchilada into 4 pieces for ease of eating. However, the chicken was in the center, which left little or no chicken in half of the portions. There was little taste to the chicken. Maybe it was the style it was cooked (birrieria style?). Maybe add a little cheese or sauce to the chicken before wrapping? The salad was very underwhelming. My wife's shrimp empanadas were also relatively dry, and with no accompanying flavor. The service and amenities were excellent with the exception of the menu; the food not so much. The quantity of the food for what we ordered was OK . The issue is in part in the food taste, and expectations of what else should have been on the plate. Cost was $52.00 including a 20% tip. (I may have overtipped, but the service was excellent, so I'm not going to penalize Robert and the serving staff.) Will we go back? Probably not, which is a shame. We want to support local businesses, but only when there is perceived value received. If we hear things change for the better, we will consider a return visit. read more
