My coworker and I stopped by this restaurant for lunch on a weekday- not too busy and the space in restaurant was super clean, and open seating. It was spacious for sure with a mini bar section for drinks and sauce. I ordered the Birria and an Empanada, and so did my coworker. There were free chips as appetizers too and their sauces (red/ green sauce). For the price and size of the meal, it was pretty decent. $16 (tax included) for 2 birria and 1 empanada with chips. If you come here and know you're here for the birria then this is the place! I'm an empanada lover so I had to try it- had a good crunch, but could have had less cheese and more shrimp inside, otherwise pretty good! The Birria Ramen was disappointing because it was in the saltier side. Too salty that my partner decided not to eat it anymore - not even adding lime juice toned it down. Good authentic Mexican food! Came in for lunch on a Saturday and we were seated right away. I had to try the quesabirria tacos while my hubby had the chicken tinga bowl. Quesabirria tacos are basically like a Mexican version of a French Dip sandwich. The tacos were really delicious...the shredded beef was so tender but did need a little salt which helped a lot. The consume needed some stirring as all the delicious flavor was at the bottom. Once you got all those spices to the top and dipped the taco in it, oh man! It was sooo good. The chicken tinga bowl was absolutely amazing. The chicken was super tender, juicy and had such a fantastic seasoned taste. The rice, beans, quac and queso were fresh and just epic. Wow! I've been looking for a birria restaurant that specifically sells goat (chivo) and I'm so glad Birrieria Coalcoman opened near me a few weeks ago! We ordered birria tacos with surtido chivo, shrimp cocktail, and a guava michelada. The tortilla on the birria tacos are freshly made and super tender. You can see the lady cooking them on the flat top! The birria de chivo was super flavorful and tender but there are bits of bone pieces here and there so watch out when eating. The shrimp cocktail is super refreshing and packed with large shrimp so the price point is really fair. Guava michelada was standard but it was really refreshing since it was kind of a hot day today. We ended up ordering a pound of birria de chivo to take home with along with some consomme so we can eat it through the week. Overall, this place is great and the menu is quite expansive so we will definitely be back to try other items! read more

A new addition to Gilroy - where the old Chevy's used to be. There is a lot to like about this restaurant. This place is huge! There are two dining room areas and plenty of outdoor seating. I ordered my food to go so I didn't have a chance to dine in , but the restaurant seemed clean and organized. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. In fact, one of the staff members let me sample their beer that they offer on tap. Their menu revolves around their birria which makes sense considering the name of the restaurant. For dinner , I opted for the three birria tacos with the consome to dip the taco in. The tacos were tender and flavorful and the consome was perfect. The salsa was flavorful with the right amount of heat throughout. I also ordered a side of whole beans to try and they were OK. I usually prepare whole pinto beans over refried beans. The tortillas are handmade and they are delicious. For now, my rating stands at 4 stars. I will need to try more menu options to bump up to 5. This is a nice restaurant addition to Gilroy, and I am really hoping they make it in today's economic environment. My only concern is that place is huge and am wondering if their menu is extensive enough to fill the place . Decided to stop by on a Sunday morning as hubby was craving chilaquiles. First time coming here and they were quite busy but well managed. We were seated immediately and were able to place our order after a few minutes of looking at the menu. I did take off 1 star as the chilaquiles was a little soggy and had a bit of a burnt taste (as if they stir fried the chips with the sauce). Went here w my foodie friend after she heard about its opening on socials. Arrived when it opened 10am on a Thursday. Service was commendable attentive and food came out fast. I ordered the chilaquiles con birria de borrego. A birrieria so had to try the birria I'm glad I ordered the borrego (lamb) it was lean, flavorful and it was less fatty than the birria de res (beef) and combined well with the homemade tortillas. The menu has something for everyone beef, lamb, seafood, veggie, kids options . The music is played at a good volume where we could still hear each other and didn't have to scream. Birria in its true form is hard to find outside of Mexico. In the states restaurants use beef and call it birria masking it flavor with spices. This establishment does not use this ruse. They spell it out in the menu and label the beef birria for what it is as well as the goat birria (the real thing). True birria is a little more gamey and your palette develops a taste for it. The food is very good and we tried multiple items during several visits. The staff is polite and efficient. Give it a try if you have a craving for real birria!! read more

The space is awesome and the ambiance is great however the service and food lacked for me. I've been on a few occasions now and the inconsistency of the birria and drinks has me hoping they hone in and fix these issues. The service has been slow and the response even slower even on a slow night in the establishment. This is our second time coming to this restaurant and it continues to impress us. We traveled from San Jose just to eat here and it was absolutely worth the drive. The service is warm, welcoming, and attentive, the food comes out super fast, and everything we ordered was so fire. I was in Gilroy recently and tried there new birrieria restaurant. The parking is very spacious as well as the inside of the restaurant. They are have outdoor seating so that's a big plus! Upon arrival we had to wait a brief time for seating but it was not a long time waiting(5-8mins). I ended up ordering from the La especialidad section of the menu. But if you are not craving that, they have many other plates to order from. I chose a guava margarita(super tasty)and the birria lover sampler which consists of a Mulita, taco rojo, quesadilla and vampiro. They are all made with birria. It also comes with a side of consomé. I honestly loved the plate. Everything was filed with flavor. On top of that, the tortillas are all hand made which pairs up perfectly with an already good meal. We also ended up ordering the birria en caldo(chivo) and that was really flavorful and delicious. We placed our order and within 5 minutes the order was ready and placed on our table. I have been to the Castroville location multiple times and all I did while being in the New Gilroy location is wish I was in Castroville instead. Its more expensive for the amount of food we were served. Everything is smaller. Tortillas smaller. Quesabirrias were significantly smaller. The Birria Caldo was served in a wide bowl instead of a traditional bowl. And wasnt filled to the top for $21 it was very noticeably less full and super disappointing. This gave me greedy vibes as though they are riding the coat tails of the successful Castroville location and raising the prices and lowering the quantity served. Wife and I took the kids here the other night. I ordered the trio fajitas and only received the steak fajitas. I tried to explain the issue of the wrong order being delivered to the server but there was a communication barrier and I was going to get charged for a second order so I just decided to eat them. The food wasn't amazing, steak was fatty and chewy ---not something you be craving to go back for. I ordered a margarita, and we had to ask for it a few times before it finally arrived after we were done with our meals. Kids seemed to like their food the cheeseburger and quesadilla. Wife got the papas flautas and mentioned the ones at tacos Ameca are better, cheaper, and come With more toppings....Overall, between the service and the food there's much better options all over gilroy and we won't be back, when we got home my wife and I also both experienced a very sour stomachs after eating here, so beware.
