Stopped in on our way through Gilroy and am so glad I did. The food is fantastic. The chef trained under a Korean Chef and so the Mexican Korean fusion of the carnitas is amazing. So very disappointed in my experience here. I came in with a friend to have a drink and a light dinner before a class we were taking. After all of the great reviews we were very excited. We each ordered a drink and a meal - chicken lettuce wraps (the same meal for each of us). The meal took over an hour to arrive which gave us 10 minutes to eat We were the only 2 people in the restaurant The staff made excuses saying there was only one cook and that the dish was difficult to make The best they offered was to give us our meal to go. Recently ordered Tamale Breakfast entree which fell flat in taste & dismantled on way home which is only two blocks distance! I was so excited to try it while in town, particularly as a human with celiac, but my son and I ended up super sick with celiac/gluten attacks- which was a real bummer because we were there for my son to take the ACT, and we ended up awake all night and he was in pain and exhausted during the test. Loved the coffee, but that's where it ended. We ordered croissants with eggs and bacon...the eggs were prepared as an omelette and were way over cooked, the bacon was not crispy and the cheese non existent. I didn't think they could mess up a simple order, but they managed to do that. For such a cute place, the cafe should be at par. We also tried the cinnamon rolls which were dried and the quiche was undercooked and not warm enough. Very disappointing experience. If I come back, I will only be ordering coffee. The croissant is advertised with fluffy eggs, the eggs are not fluffy at all, they need to change the description on the menu if that's the not way they serve it. read more

I would like to start off with service, this applies to all of the staff but I many to give a shoutout to eddy, he was polite and patient throughout our entire visit and was nice in just about every way. Secondly the food, it was phenomenal for a restaurant, the portions were large and was absolutely delicious, they did what most restaurants around here don't even think of doing, for example drizzling olive oil of the salad so you aren't eating a plate of dry lettuce, and so many other small things that really make the meal come together. Lastly the atmosphere, the tables and chairs are clean, the design is awesome with plants scattered around making the place feel lush and alive while maintaining it's peacefulness, I would highly recommend to try this place before going to other restaurants in Gilroy. read more

Absolutely love this little gem of a restaurant! Filipino food is lacking in the Central Valley and driving to the Bay Area is often just too much of a hassle. I was so excited to find this spot less than an hour away from home! The interior is really cute and still has the feel of the previous restaurant inside, I like that they kept some things the same like the bar and the ceiling tiles. They have plenty of seating including high top tables, regular tables, comfy chairs and couches and bar seating as well. I have been craving a good Filipino breakfast for a while and got the corned beef silog while fiancee got the tapsilog. It was really good, I will definitely be coming here again and trying other items, sisig has been calling my name for a while so that will likely be next. I made the wrong choice for coffee, it didn't go with my breakfast, but I will know better for next time. I got the matcha something or other latte and fiancee got an Americano, I should have gotten an Americano as well. Don't get me wrong, it was good and earthy, just didn't go with my breakfast choice. The girl that took the order and made our coffees was very sweet, the only other staff were back in the kitchen. Fantastic place and truly a heaven for people with Celiac. My wife has Celiac disease, so we are always looking for good gluten-free places. We stopped by Café Motif expecting maybe one or two gluten-free options, but to our surprise they had an excellent GF menu and an even better gluten-free bakery with amazing desserts. To be honest, I overdid it! I had two dishes and two desserts, and every single one was delicious--and I'm not even the one who needs to eat gluten-free. My wife and I both loved it. We also have a toddler, and they have a little space where he could play, which made the experience even better for us. We tried the gluten-free ham and cheese quiche and it was fantastic. I had two Boston cream pies and they were soooo good. My wife had the gluten-free apple Danish and she absolutely loved it. I also had the breakfast burrito (not gluten-free) and it was really good as well. We're locals, but if you're visiting or just looking for great food with excellent gluten-free options and delicious desserts in a welcoming place, don't hesitate to stop by and enjoy it. What a cute hidden gem for Filipino dishes! My fiancé and I were searching for a good brunch spot and stumbled upon Cafe Motif on Yelp. To our delight, they offer silogs, which is a traditional Filipino breakfast that typically features garlic rice, egg, and a choice of meat. The food was delicious, especially the bangus, which was fried to perfection. The vinegar was well balanced with a touch of sweetness and added a great touch, though the garlic rice could be a littttle more flavorful but it was still enjoyable. We loved it so much that we returned the next day to try their sinigang LOL, and I must say, it's the best pork rib sinigang I've had thus far! The broth was rich, flavorful, and perfectly tangy. Wow, wow, wow! I stepped into Cafe Motif and was immediately captivated. My friend, a regular at the cafe, arrived and led me straight to the counter. It felt like a scene from *Cheers* as familiar faces came up to greet him, making me feel right at home. As if that wasn't enough, there was a lively paint party happening! Anyone who made a purchase at the cafe received a free canvas, adding to the cheerful atmosphere. Although I didn't get to explore the Art Gallery this time, I'm already planning my return. Now, let's talk about the food--that's where the three wows come in! Their seasonal farm-to-table menu features an inventive Mexican-Korean fusion that blew me away. Catalina and Camren recommended starting with the Kabocha Squash Elote, served with their homemade orange sauce. It was incredibly flavorful, delivering that extra kick--definitely the first wow! Camren also suggested trying their espresso martini (made with wine), which earned my second wow. We couldn't resist adding a cucumber pomegranate mojito, which was delicious. I do wonder if they could offer a non-alcoholic version, as I'd love to sip on that during a hot lunch. Second wow! For dinner, Catalina urged me to try the carnitas bibimbap--and this was my third wow! I've never tasted anything quite like it. The meat was perfectly seasoned, and when mixed with rice, egg, and veggies, it created an explosion of flavor in my mouth. I loved it so much that I ordered a second one to go for my son, and he thought it was fantastic too. Cafe Motif is very unassuming from the outside. It's artsy inside with the hanging garden with plenty to do for kids but forget the scenery. The food is amazing. I got a taste of the breakfast burrito with thick bacon and the savory salsa . Also the matcha waffles with the blueberry compote was a hit. The mushroom empanada was fantastic. Had lunch here a few weeks ago. Ambiance: The interior looks nice and is definitely well-decorated. However, they had someone working on the spotlights and fans in the back of the restaurant during our entire time there. Imagine trying to enjoy a lunch and bright spotlights constantly flickering on and off at you the entire time. Not a pleasant experience. On top of that, the door was left wide open letting the cold draft in. Service: While the person working the front did her best, there is ONE person staffing the entire front of the restaurant. That's insane. No being greeted or welcomed in at the front. We waited more than 40 minutes for our order to be taken. We considered leaving at one point but decided to give the place a chance. I had to walk up to the bar to order our food and so did the couple next to us once they realized that no one was going to come to take anyone's order. The host/server/busser/barista/bartender also described ube as "beans" to a table of patrons inquiring about the menu. Menu: The menu has a good variety of American and Filipino dishes. A huge point of frustration came about from how confusing the menu is. The ube buttermilk pancakes are described as including sides such as "bacon, breakfast potatoes, sausage and toast" but our dish came with none of those. Maybe the menu should be adjusted to list these as side options with additional pricing instead of listing them under the dish as if they are all included. We also ordered some caffeinated drinks and were asked what kind of milk we'd like. The server did not mention that the oat milk was $1 extra per drink. The Flat White was good. The Matcha Espresso Fusion was horrendous. The matcha was not mixed in properly so all the matcha powder just coagulated at the bottom. Food: The food was decent. The ube buttermilk pancake was good. I ordered the Tapsilog as well, which was decent. However, the portions are too small. Overall, I paid well over $50 for decent food, small portions, almost nonexistent service, horrible ambiance, and a frustrating experience. Edit: It seems like the owner recognizes the issues and is actively working to resolve them. Will maybe visit again in a month or two to retry after the changes. read more

In addition to asking for crispy bacon when I placed my order we all noticed that there didn't look like there was any cheese on the egg sandwich so I ASKED the employee & she told me that the Chz is on the top of the eggs & not mixed into the eggs so I assumed they forgot the cheese that's why I asked for some slices to add ourselves( I did not demand it)or send it back a second time. After waiting for quite a time no Chz was delivered for the 3 sandwiches. By this time food was cold & no Chz was brought out. The eggs were very over cooked(burnt edges) After a bit the cook brought out another sandwich which we did not order. We ended up taking a few bites & we're very dissatisfied! Your description of the events that day are inaccurate & untrue. It seems obvious that your staff is not informed about the menu & struggle with preparation request which leads to confusion,mis communication & UNHAPPY costumers! Not once did you apologize or take accountability for our awful experience. You had the nerve to redirect the narrative & blame it on me. Give me a break!! What a delightful little treasure! They have great coffee in a nicely curated spot. I love all the local artists displays, and they have adorable gift items to peruse and purchase. HUGE Bonus- they pay their employees a livable wage, as opposed to what many places where servers rely on tips do (look it up- some places are horrific). That in itself tells me the owners care about their people, and is reason enough to keep me coming back. It's an absolute bonus that the service and people and product are great, as well! read more

Well this was an experience! The decor is amazing but I didn't like much else. I decided I wanted a simple sandwich and glass of wine for lunch. It is necessary to order at the counter here. So I ordered a BLT adding avocado and asked what was available for white wine. There were no wines listed on the menu but the server thought they had Sauv Blanc and Chardonnay. I preferred Chardonnay, so that's what I ordered. He asked for payment...$43! Yikes! So apparently this was an upscale wine, not the normal house wine you typically receive when ordering by the glass. I find my seat ... an incredibly uncomfortable chair BTW and sip the wine. The sandwich arrives, the bread is heavily toasted and the crust is not easily bitten through. The bacon was thick and cooked to death... much more like very tough shoe leather. I ended up taking the bacon off the sandwich. Who knew you could ruin bacon? There was very little avocado and certainly not worth the $2 up charge. All-in-all, absolutely the worst BLT I have ever had. I definitely will not darken their door again. read more
