So I went to this place this morning and wanted to order a breakfast burrito. I walk in and the lady hands me a menu. There's 1 other person in the restaurant and that's it. I look for a breakfast burrito and it's not on the menu I then ask her if they have them and she confirms. She says ok I'll make them now. 10 minutes later food comes out and now I go to pay. She says "That'll be $32.95" i literally almost shit myself. How in the hell can a burrito and 2 tacos be $32 fu*kin dollars!!?!? So I ask and she says "the burrito is $11.99, then I charged you $8 for eggs, potatoes and steak and bacon" UMMM WTF Of course there's no individual pricing on the menu, no itemized receipt, and a very terrible explanation from the lady working the counter. So I explained that it's extremely expensive for just a burrito and a couple tacos. I came here for the birria and it was good and also was impressed with the options of different entre plates and traditional "antojitos" meaning things like tacos, burritos, gorditas, etc. The next time I went, I tried barbacoa and it was equally as good. I like the different types of salsa they have, from no heat to big heat. One day when I went with a buddy of mine, he ordered a shrimp taco and he bragged abut how good it was. The next time I went I ordered tacos, shrimp and barbacoa, just know that their tacos are bigger than street tacos, maybe twice or three times bigger as they use the normal size tortilla. In all fairness, I have tried several birria places throughout LA and Orange Counties and I would consider this place one of the better tasting one. You can find more trendy locations or food truck that offer more quantity than quality and taste, but I would come here if I am local before trying a new place. read more

Definitely worth checking out Bierrieria Mexico. I don't know much about goat, but I was game to try. The server/cashier lady steered me towards #4. I came to her with my truth of not knowing at all what to get (even though I had read a bunch of reviews here first). Birrieria Dorado, my dish, is the meat removed from the soup, then fried on the grill. Then, it's delivered with sides: fresh handmade tortillas; onions, cilantro and lime; and a cup of the aforementioned broth of the soup. The flavor is rich without being too strong. I almost resembles lamb, with a kind of brisket-y consistency. Some fat, but not a lot. The only thing that I must warn you about is that there are occasional bone bits within the meat. Pay attention, don't eat too quickly, and you'll be fine. It's a little jarring - but if you're up for the challenge of trying other foods, you'll be fine with this caveat. The Birrieria Dorado dish is pretty big - getting rice and beans to accompany it would be too much. However, if you share this dish, then adding it would make sense. Cash Only, yes, as others have said. The lady today absolutely spoke perfect English as well as español, so I cannot address what some reviews had some said about Spanish Only. Avoid the weekends, or get ready for a line, is something else the lady told me today. Oh, and after I drained my water, I was offered a taste of one of their handmade drinks: Pina. I was in the mood for some hot soup since it rained today, and wanted to find some Birria en Caldo to hit the spot. Not only did it hit the spot, it absolutely blew me away. The goat meat is literally falling off the bone, and the broth was as rich as could be...perfectly salty, smoky, and flavorful. It was served with 3 of their handmade tortillas which are the best I've yet had in the valley. They give you a small plate of lime, onion and cilantro to garnish, and their deliciously spicy orange salsa, presumably made from habaneros. The service was excellent and pretty quick, though I did notice some other people waiting for call-in orders seemed to be tapping their toes waiting...but I can't speak to their experience, so I won't. Foods okay, a lil pricey, a while ago I had a bad experience at the place. The owner was spraying bug spray like 3 ft away from me while I was eating. I looked at him with a "wtf?" type of expression and he said "the can says it's non-toxic for humans" (in spanish). This is a little family owned hole-in-the-wall in a corner mini-mall alongside a USA Donuts on Vanowen near Vesper, between Van Nuys and Kester. The inside is tiny and nothing to look at, and it's not the place to come if you want beautiful ambience. There is a TV and a jukebox, but there was no sound on for the TV, and the jukebox occasionally played music at very low levels. The restaurant seems to do a lot of take-out. Excellent birria en caldo (extremely flavorful not but very spicy hot soup with goat meat, served with limes, onions and cilantro) and excellent beef barbacoa tacos. The latter are sort of like street tacos you might get in Mexico, small tacos that are deliciously tender beef wrapped in small tortillas with not much more than some diced onions and cilantro...and jeeez, melt-in-your-mouth good. Both the meat in the birria and the beef barbacoa were high quality, very tender, and extremely well-prepared. Hand-made tortillas are delicious. The chips are pretty good, and there is really tasty salsa at their salsa bar. The horchata was a little bland for my taste. Next time I'll probably get Mexican Coca Cola. The people who work there do not speak much English but are super sweet and helpful, although the service is a little bit slow. But everyone there is very kind, the food is delicious, and I left there very happy. ~~~December 2014~~~~~ Went back for a torta with lamb (barbacoa de borrego), which was delicious, tender, and flavorful. Today I called in an order around 11:30 the man said it would take a few minutes so I figured It would take about 15 minutes. I arrived around 11:45 to make the long story short, they won't tell you how much longer it will take. They keep saying "un rato" ( a while) there was a half a dozen people upset because their orders were taking over an hour some customers were waiting for over 2 hours I believe I waited long enough but after not being taken care of my order after an hour and a half. So I found this place by accident today was going to get some menudo from big tacos but for whatever reason it wasn't open yet so I was going to just go home and saw people walking into this place so I u turned and sure enough walked into an authentic Mexican restaurant the very few you can find in the valley. So given the name of the restaurant I changed from wanting to eat menudo to craving birria. They had different types de Chivo y de res. since I wanted some soup I ordered de consome which is a soup. I ordered with a side of birria dorada. I've got to say this is by far some of the best birria I've had. The consome had garbanzos which were soft not hard and chewy.
