Socorro's Restaurant # 2 is located off of Sherman Way & Kester Ave in Van Nuys. It's a true hole-in-the-wall, so you're gonna have to be determined to come here! Parking is mission impossible - they have a small shared lot with like 3 other businesses (about 12 spaces + 1 handicap spot in total), so definitely call ahead and order pickup unless you want to hoof it a block or two away. I also say get pickup because inside is fairly small, so it's just easier/more comfortable to get your food to-go. I've had their asada burrito while my better half and my mother-in-law live for their chile rojo combination (red chili). Both are plenty hefty as they don't skimp on ingredients. Their handmade tortillas make me nostalgic, reminding me of my grandmother's tortillas from back in the day. Chef's kiss! Socorro's is a great authentic Mexican spot when you're in the hood. Prices are fair, the food is delicious, and the employees hustle to serve everyone. The only drawback is that since it's so small, it's hella busy all day every day. Came here on a whim and service is great. Sincere service and very friendly and helpful. I got the wet burrito combo with rice and beans. I also got their chicken enchilada combo with rice and bean. Ordered 2 tacos de birria de chivo estilo Michoacano as my family comes from the state and I love well cooked goat and HANDMADE TORTILLAS! The workers all had a smile on their face and were super attentive. From the price I assumed a carne asada burrito wasn't going to fill me up which is why I also ordered the tacos. The burrito was more than enough but I came in with an appetite. Next time a Gordita de asada is in order, in the short time I waited for my food I saw three people who were dining in get one and it looks impressive. I purchased a plate to share with my mom because we didn't want any left overs. We ordered a plate of chilaquiles salsa roja and four sunny side up eggs a la carte. Our plate was full of oil around the eggs were the same. I took a bite and it taste like they had just fried something in the oil and used the same oil to make our food. I will NEVER go to this place again. I would have wrote this review yesterday, but I was in bed all day vomiting with a horrible stomach ache. I typically write reviews when places are either a five or I would like to advise people to stay away. This place definitely needs to be closed or need new cooks. Take your money elsewhere. If you want authentic Mexican Food, this is the spot! I recommend their Sopes, Birria, and Carne En Molcajete. For the most part, all the dishes are pretty delicious. They serve hand made tortillas which gives it a completely different taste to all the dishes. I come here quite often. The service is good. Sometimes it might be hard to find parking but you can always look for parking on the streets around this place. The tortillas were thick and you can taste the freshness in the texture. Both plates were amazingly good. This place is a little pricey tho. We paid 30 dollars for both plates. Considering that it's a hole in the wall type of place, it seemed a little pricey to me. The customer service was great. Parking might be a little tight depending on what time of the day it is. Loved the food...until I got sick from the chile Verde plate. If you don't mind maybe catching a stomach virus, flies everywhere in the establishment, and just an overall dirty looking place with questionable food safety. Then this is for you! It's always hot when I go in here. At least 4 flies roaming around. And 5 messy tables in the already cramped restaurant. I'm sad I won't be coming here anymore because they really do have good food. The quality of the food here was good and well worth the price. I told myself in California that I didn't want to eat Mexican food and yet I am glad that i ended up eating here. Stopped by here for brunch after a Sunday morning shopping run. It just happened to caught our eye as we weren't looking for anywhere fancy to eat. There was a line out the door and even though the place was small, the food on the tables looked good. We waited probably a good 20 minutes before we were seated. Ordered our food and when we got it a short time later. I had the chorizo and eggs and bf had ham & eggs. I LOVED my brunch especially with the hot sauce they serve with it. It may be too salty for some palates but for me it was awesome. Bf enjoyed his ham & eggs which I thought was good too but I liked my food better. We ate here a month ago and I still can't figure out what rating to give it. So I guess I will give it a three and let you decide. The food: Very authentic and very good.
