This place is not fancy nor extravagant, but the food was top tier! I came in and was able to find a seat immediately. My order was promptly taken, and I was served within minutes. She was the only waitress that I saw, but she moved around the area quickly. She checked on me frequently. The food was amazing. I got the large place with goat birria. They do offer beef as well but the standard is goat. The meat was very tender! It was falling apart. The consume was amazing as well very flavorful. I added some spicy salsa on top which took the flavors over the edge. This was the best birria I've had. I also ordered a quesabirria taco. It wasn't how I am used to eating quesabirria because it was open instead of folded over; however, I liked that better because they packed on the meat. My experience here was a 10/10. I definitely recommend stopping by if you want to taste some delicious birria. read more

Chicago has many spectacular bierrierias, of which this is one. I would put it maybe a half-notch below Zaragoza in that the broth wasn't as mole-heavy, but the goat meat is perfectly tender, the tortillas are super fresh, and the broth isn't too tomato-heavy. Seriously one of the best spots in the neighborhood. A great comfort meal, especially on cold winter days. Everyone in my family orders something different. And everything tastes incredible. There really is no better birria in the city in my opinion. If you're not from the area, it's worth the drive. While they do offer quesabirria tacos, their traditional bowls of birria and tacos de birria are great on their own. Add their spicy red salsa and you're in for a treat. Outside of their birria, the agua de horchata here is one of my favorites. the staff is great, they treat all the guests like family. While I love a good weekend birria, I do try to avoid this place on the weekends because it gets super packed, but always worth it! read more

I I have gone here for years. Never disappointed until today 12-17-25. I did not see the regular servers. The salsa was not the same at all, the Birriera and the consema had no flavor it was just all wrong. I don't know what happened. I believe I think it's not the same owners. Yum, it seems to be the season for everything, Birria, Birria tacos, quesaBirria, and Birria stew too. Stopped here for lunch with a cycling group and ordered a couple Birria tacos to go and ate at a park. The tacos were full of pulled goat meat, served with onions and cilantro. They were tasty and filling and at a reasonable price. it was a Saturday around lunchtime and the place was jampacked. Servers were fast and efficient, but it's cash only just a warning. This complaint goes to the owner of this place because I would like him to see it since we have been customers for over 20 years. The following happened, I called to place an order at 4:12 on Oct-14-2025, they told me that they could not place an order for me because they closed that day at 5:pm but that I could come place the order in person, I told him that I was 40 minutes from the place and that I would arrive at 4:52 and he told me not to worry that it was fine since they closed at 5 pm, I arrived at 4:52 and it was already closed, I knocked on the door and they did not want to open it, I called and they answered me and I told them that I was the person who had called them and they only told me that they were sorry and that they had already closed and they just repeated the same thing, their lack of conscience of making me drive 40 minutes for nothing is what bothers me since that is why I called them and let them know. I also asked to speak to a manager and they refused. I asked for the owner's name and they didn't want to give it to me either. That's why I'm writing this review, hoping the owner can see it and hear my complaint. read more

I've been coming here for years, went there today and I was not disappointed! Food was so good, I forgot to take pictures. The server was quick and friendly. The place was so packed, I almost didn't get a table. So happy they take credit card now but came prepared with cash. Only sad thing is, they no longer have RC. I stopped by by happy accident. I had work to do in the area. I wanted to stay the rest of the afternoon. The tacos de chivo were incredible. What I really loved were the tacos de lengua. I lived in Mexico over a year in Michoacán and I have never had such proper legit tacos de lengua anywhere in Chicagoland area. read more

The tacos were very good and worth the trip to south side for. I'm from SoCal so my standard for good mexican food is pretty high. My expectations were exceeded. The horchata wasn't disappointing either, which made me happy because I am often disappointed with horchata at restaurants. The tacos were hot and the salsa was amazing! Oh man. So I stopped at this exit on my drive home from visiting family in Chicago to get gas. And we'll, we were snacky. Almost grabbed the kids some chicken strips from KFC and man am I glad I didn't. To start off this is a primarily Hispanic run business. Menu is in Spanish and workers and clients also do. The server that helped us was the kindest, most patient women I've met in the food service industry. She was helpful in ordering as I've never had birreria before and had no idea what to order. She walked me thru going as far as doing charades to get her point across. I am so grateful for her kindness. Because man, this food is so delicious. Home made with love and care. The meat (come to find out it was goat (head, tongue, cheek, shoulder from what I could understand), which I've never had before) was tender and flavorful. The quesobirria was perfectly crisp, full of tender meat and just delicious. The meat with broth (consommé) was the all star of this meal. I can't even describe it well enough. Just get it. When our broth was gone, our server came by with an offer to refill our bowl. Uhhhh, yes please. Broth from a pitcher is a first for me but it was unfair how delicious it was. PRICE ******* other places over charge for birria and you leave hungry , not here if you are hungry order a large ( you will be able to make 6 or more tacos from your order ) FLAVOR ******* the birria in the broth with onion and cilantro along with the added hot pepper hits the spot on a cold day or after a hangover Birria is sold everywhere but it does not mean it's good , life is too short to settle for bad birria . I live 45 minutes away and take the drive just to eat here . This has to be the best birria in the city, hands down. Also, there have been more birria restaurants and food trucks popping up all over the city, but most of them offer beef birria, not goat birria. So is always a good idea to ask what birria you are getting. For me, birria is goat, beef birria is just more like barbacoa. Ocotlan's goat birria is superb. The consomme is packed with flavor without the overused of salt. The goat meat is so tender and juicy. No frills and thrills here, just fantastic birria as it should be. Good bang for your buck as well - prices are reasonably inexpensive. Well worth the drive if you are not for the area, and is cash only, so bring cash with you. Also it worth noting that many birria restaurants in Chicago bear the "Ocotlan" in their name, however none are affiliated with each other (different owners, cooks, recipe). Ocotlan is a city in the state of Jalisco in Mexico. So don't expect the same superb taste of this birria in any other establishment. read more

Ordered from my car in the pouring rain, yelling through droplets into the small window on the façade that I needed the sultry, juicy tacos I had been seeing on Twitter. They told me I could call the number on the awning and finish ordering over the phone. My bad. For a to-go order, they did not disappoint. Me and my little sister pulled into a nearby parking lot because going home to eat was out of the question. We needed the birria NOW. Ordered 6 birria tacos and a large consomé for us to share. We probably ordered too much of the stew juice but hey, no regerts. All well priced. It was every bit of amazing I thought it'd be.
