Have you ever been so full from a meal, but it was so good that you wanted more? I know I have plenty of time. This restaurant called El Rey Del Taco & Burrito is the only Mexican food restaurant that has made me feel like this every time I go for a bite. The food here is the type to give you a food coma, and not the ones that make you feel like you're about to blow up, but the ones that make you want to crawl into bed and have the deepest sleep. Eating in the restaurant is a really good experience. If you sit on the barstools you can watch the cook whip up your food and smell the freshly cooked meat in the air makes your mouth water. I've seen reviews on the restaurant and there are a lot of complaints on the waiters and service. In my personal experience the people there are really welcoming considering it was always packed in such a small area. It's about a 8-10 minute wait for the food which isn't bad if you have the time to wait. The waiters are very attentive just waiting for you to ask for something so they can get it right away. There has been the occasional slip up where they'll mess up my order but every restaurant makes that same mistake. The one meal I always order is a taco dinner. My choice of meat is chicken but beef, chorizo, al pastor and steak are also an option. It comes with three tacos, but I always ask for four because I'm a bigger guy and three isn't enough for me. On the side are the typical beans and rice, and the salsa is unforgettable. It is spicy, but not to the point where it overpowers the food. They have both green and red salsa, but I prefer the green because it's milder and goes well with the tacos. The tacos are well made with a double tortilla and a good amount of meat in it. The chicken has a very good texture to it where it is very soft but it has a small crunch to it. But what's a meal without a drink? My favorite beverage with this meal is a nice large cool horchata. When I tell you the horchata is to die for I mean it. It's really smooth and has a sweet cinnamon and vanilla taste to it that just compliments every bite of food. Overall you can't go wrong with this restaurant. I've tried other Mexican restaurants and they were good, but none of them compare to El Rey Del Taco & Burrito. Whether it is take out or dine in, this restaurant gets 5 stars, and I definitely recommend eating here. read more

They definitely lost me as a faithful customer. Please make sure to never go in there asking a simple question because you will receive raw breaded steak with the taste of blood, not fully cooked, a gringa soaked in oil, tacos de Asada made out of cebolla and cilantro and burnt fries. Not to mention, receiving ignorant treatment from the young lady while answering her personal cell phone rather than attending me. Thank you Management Marcos for indicating "THIS ISNT THE FIRST TIME WE RECEIVE COMPLAINTS FROM THAT WAITRESS" there goes to show you how they poorly run their restaurants. We used to come to this location quite often. We stopped bcuz once we went, during the week, a bit earlier than we usually did, and although it was kinda empty (always a plus since this place barely has any tables and its super cramp) it was still a horrible experience. We ordered an horchata pitcher and right away I noticed it tasted kind of weird . So I looked closer and I see that the contents were separating.So effing gross. We tell the waitress that it tasted sour and it looked bad and although she seemed freaked out her response was " oh es que la muchacha q trabaja en la noche no la vacio" (oh it's cuz the young lady who works nights didn't empty it out). We were seriously there like... Oookay that might be true, but you're the one who turned the machine on this morning knowing you did not fill it up fresh , so it must of been sitting there all night and also you're the one who served it to us soooooo....??????(very long sentence to think but yea lol) Needless to say that really ruined it for us. There's just something about swallowing rotten dairy that people really don't enjoy. We decided to give it another go but this time it took about 40 min to get served although the only ones there was another couple besides us, when we inquired about the hold up they just said they had a lot of carry outs. Idk, I just thought that priority is given to dine in guests? I might be completely wrong in that though, it's just something I heard. The place is super small and cramped, the ceiling fans leak and the only tables that don't get wet are right by the door so u have to deal with constant distractions and the cold/heat when the door is opened. It's literally that close to the door. I will end this by saying their food is awesome!The chicharron is a must try,its so tender it literally melts in ur mouth! And when they have the barbacoa de borrego/res ( they actually never do, another bummer ) that is awesome to. Any quesadilla is good here actually.burritos are nothing special, (this coming from an avid burrito eater)so don't bother . If you are around El Rey, it's a fine enough place to eat. It's not someplace I would go out of my way to travel to. The food is good, but not exceptional. The best part is that it is cheap, so it's good for the price. I got a single Mexican style chorizo taco (chorizo, onion, cilantro, and salsa on a corn tortilla) and paid $2.30. A burrito is around $7. The meat is particularly juicy, which I love, but grab lots and lots of napkins. There isn't tons of seating inside, so if you have a large group get it to go. But the tables and chairs are clean. The staff is very friendly, but don't love modifications to orders. Additionally, we were surprised when we got our food to find that all the females in our group were given mild salsa and the males were given spicy salsa. When we ordered the host did not ask us which we preferred, and we did not realize there were multiple types of salsa to choose from so we did not clarify. read more

There was one time that the tacos were off and were dry and unappealing that was on 46th and California thry must had a new cook, however given their history of delicious tacos I went again and that cool must have gotten it together or they were told hit the bricks cat. They were once again yummy this goes for their location on Archer too they are good. Only thing about Archer location they seem to be out of certain menu items this has happened twice not cool. Any time I cruise through this area I need to stop in. This is a Chicago taco joint, so any type of "dining experience" is not even an issue. Stop in, order your food, watch it get made in front of you, and take it home. (Otherwise expect to sit at a tight counter or small booth, because that's how it works.) Anything "Asada" is fantastic, as is 'al Pastor'. Food is wrapped so tight that I usually drive another half hour and it's still piping hot when I get home.
