This was my first time eating at biryani city. Our party of 5 ordered Apollo fish, goat biryani, saag paneer, Kadahi chicken, couple of naans and rotis. My fav were the fish and goat biryani. The other people really liked the paneer. We are not big spice consumers and we ordered medium and that was perfect. The biryani was a tad bit too spicy. Knowing that yesterday was the opening day of this biryani place, had to try it. The chicken biryani was good. It had fresh fried onions unlike the other places that use packaged ones. The salan was one of the best I had in any restaurant. The rice was flavorful with lots of ghee and spices. Finally the chicken was tender but I felt it could be better. Probably the marinate could have been better absorbed by the meat. But a place that won't disappoint you. Tried the double ka meeta but that was ok. It was packed in a tight container as a result the bread got squashed and the kova base of the sweet was less. I would expect it to have more base for the bread to be enjoyed. read more

Food was alright, though I was disappointed because I specifically ordered goat with my curry but they gave me chicken instead. I asked the server twice if it was goat, if he's sure it is goat, he said yes! But I am 200% sure it was chicken - there is no way one can mistake chicken meat for goat meat. It mattered because I was craving for goat then and ordering goat was more expensive than if I really just ordered chicken. They charged me at goat price. Ordered rasmalai too - it was ok. Poor service and bad coordination. I got to another residential address based on the yelp address and reached there after over an hour to pick up my food. I pick up bag they gave me pays and leaves , I am about to reach home they call me and says I didn't pick up the naans which they had set aside according to them. Being a hard core foodie, it is not very easy for me to like all the food I eat. However, I just fell in love with the food at biryani city. I did not go in with a lot of expectations and was open to try it out. The ambience of the place was very warm and lively. Though there were lot of people, food was brought relatively quick. The food tasted wonderful. The portion size was also great for the price. And I absolutely loved the double ka meeta!!! I would suggest that you definitely try it out. I was left wanting for more even after I hogged an entire bowl all by myself. A feast but modestly priced! We stop at the Newark, Delaware I-95 rest stop often because of its Tesla super chargers. But, wow, Biryani City is a new find for us and just a 7 minute drive from the rest stop, right off I-95. Authentic, well-prepared South Indian food, pleasant and immaculate restaurant, inexpensive. During my first time in Washington D.C. I drove to Newark, Delaware for two hours plus to see my old friend. My friend and I decided to have a dinner at Biryani City Restaurant. Although the word Restaurant or Indian Cuisine was missing from the Store Front Sign. The Biryani City Restaurant was newly opened and the environment was nice. We ordered Goat Biryani, Chicken Sukka and the Garlic bread. Well, I would have preferred the Rice and Goat meat entree not to be mixed together. Amazingly the food taste good, the Goat meat was well cooked and the Chicken Sukka was tenderly cooked. I recommend Biryani City Restaurant to anyone in the area. Keep up the good work. I've done a few takeouts here and the food has been good for the most part. I believe they offer a south indian take on the food here. The Biryani's are delectable and reminiscent of the authentic ones you get in the Southern Indian city of Hyderabad. The spices can be a bit overwhelming if you are not used to the medley they use in indian cooking, but this place is able to modify or tone down to your liking. I cannot comment on service as I've always done take out, but the food in itself is very good. One of the better Indian cuisines in the Newark area. read more

My experience at Biryani City was disappointing as it did not live up to the "4 star" reputation it has on Yelp. I'm from NJ but was in Newark DE for a business trip, and decided to check this place out. It was a nice place, it was clean and the food portion was very generous for the price. However, my issues stem from the lack of service and some problems with the food itself. First off, the waitress was not very friendly. She came over to my table with a little bit of attitude but I let that slide. What really bothered me was that after she explained the lunch special platter to me, I began to ask her if I could switch out one of the gravies for the day. If you take a look at the picture I attached, it CLEARLY states that they'll change out something and make it "a la carte" for you if you'd like. The only words I got out of my mouth were "okay so can I..." before she rudely interrupted me and said "no. We don't change anything. It's the same for everyone that's it". She also didn't give me a choice in Biryani which again, is clearly stated on the menu that you have a choice. Also, the menu AGAIN CLEARLY STATES that if you choose a meat, you get 2 meat gravies. I got 1 meat gravy, and 1 paneer (cheese curd) gravy. Not to mention that the food came out in 5 min (I understand that most food isn't made to order nowadays) and it wasn't even hot anymore! At least throw it in a pan before you bring out cold-room temperature food!!!! The flavor was all there but it wasn't worth the frustraIt's fine if I get one chicken and one paneer gravy it's fine if I can't substitute anything it's fine if the biryani is what it is without choice. But what's NOT fine is the fact that what the menu said, differs from what the server said. Moral of the story, please don't advertise what you can't deliver. Awesome place! I was looking for an Indian restaurant nearby and found this place on Yelp. A main complaint seemed to be the price but I feel like a $13 entree is pretty reasonable. Some family was in town and there were four of us total. We got an appetizer (something with cauliflower) that was delicious but a bit too spicy for us white Americans. The waiter brought out complimentary mango-yogurt drinks to help counteract the heat. We originally each picked an item but he suggested that only 3 would be more than enough for the 4 of us. We honestly could have gotten two meals and still had leftovers, there was so much food! They keep the rice coming and even offered me additional fresh rice when I asked for some to-go containers. We also ordered the butter naan and garlic naan ($2 for 4 pieces each). Next time I would get plain over butter, it was just naan with melted butter on it. I guess I had envisioned it being cooked into it as the flavor. The garlic one was great. Many of the desserts looked good but we were pretty stuffed. The service was particularly great. Our waiter humored my grandfather, who can be a lot to handle. He also gave great suggestions on what to get and tried his best to explain the different types of sauces. They didn't rush us out but he did check in later on since we paid and then continued to sit and chat. I will definitely return! read more

Went to this place to get the new taste with a mix feeling of old experiences with the previous restaurant at the same location. But to my surprise, the taste was awesome.
