Currently, it is much smaller with fewer selections of items, and there is no restaurant inside as can be seen from some of the pictures. This place is by far the best middle eastern restaurant on the East coast. Just the right amount of spicy, great flavors, and overall very delicious. The prices are not bad at all, and portions are fair. We order kibbeh, arayes, and samosa (mixed) all melt in mouth, you can taste the flavors of the spices with a hint of hot. The eggplant stew is to die for. Their dessert (basbousa) is the best I've ever had, tbh I've never tasted anything with just the right amount of everything. It wasn't saggy, it wasn't too sweet. I stopped in this restaurant/grocery store a little too early for the lunch buffet, so i opted for the falafel appetizer and a gyro sandwich. The falafel was crisp on the outside and very tasty.. The gyro was pretty good also. Although the pita that it was served on tasted like it was either frozen or premade, it wasn't a bad meal. Came for lunch. After sitting for maybe 5 minutes I wasn't sure if there was wait service, so I went up to the counter and ordered there. Come to find out as others trickled in that they did have a waiter, he just didn't wait on me. I tried the turkish coffee, falafel appetizer and beef shawarma. 4 tiny falafel discs came out with cold, store bought wheat pita triangles, 4 tomato slices and a thimble of tahini; tasty, but pretty small. The beef shawarma was tough, overcooked steak strips with onion and gherkins, wrapped in what seemed like a low carb wheat tortilla. The Turkish coffee was actually really good. If you get it, just be sure to fold up a napkin to grab the pot handle, or you will burn your hand. It didn't need any sugar since it was already kind of sweet. Wish we had this place near our home in Vermont! Friendly people greeted us and the menu offered so many delightful meals it was hard to choose. We ordered fresh fruit juices: strawberry and mango and they were from heaven! Amazing fresh fruit for only $2.99! Then we ordered an oasis platter (3 skewers, lamb kebab, chicken kebab and beef kufta, charbroiled, marinated and seasoned served on a bed of rice) - an excellent large meal- a similar Lamb platter, and a Stuffed Grape Leaves platter with hummus, baba ghanooj, a little lettuce, and warm bread. The "salad: on the platters was not much, but it was delicious, "real" food! Plus we found their grocery which had items we had been seeking at a very reasonable price! read more

The Oasis platter with chicken shawarma was really good too but we were full by then so we couldn't finish. Its a lot of food for two people. Portions are generous. We finished off with baklava and Turkish coffee, which was great. Its attached to a grocery store so you can do your shopping all in one stop. Came here with friends and sampled a number of dishes for dinner. The falafel was, hands down, the best I'd ever had -- crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and nicely spiced. The other side dishes were all above-average -- very good hummus, as well as baba ganoush, stuffed grape leaves, and pita bread. Kebab entrees were nicely cooked, the basmati rice first-rate. The mint tea came pre-sweetened -- very sweet, in fact -- but strong, hot and delicious. We didn't really leave room for dessert, but the adjoining shop had plenty of individually-sized treats, and a very good selection of spices, too, by the way. Food service in the restaurant was a tad slow, but the staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth checking out if you're passing through town or need a nice stop off the Interstate... I typically don't stray to far from the gyros here. It's for a good reason. They are really good. I come here around every other week for one. Like we go to the greek festival for gyros, but this is the best around maybe ever had. They do have a pretty extensive menu featuring a lot of different options though. Prices are very reasonable and with the attached grocery you can find stuff you couldn't normally find in a mainstream store. I definitely recommend this place. read more

i got a delivery from this place last week. To begin with, they got my order wrong. i ordered for chicken with hummus with meat and I got lamb. But i must point out, the lamb was very well cooked and a little delicious! their shawarma wasn't good at all. The lamb and beef kebabs were overcooked. only the chicken kebab was correctly cooked and was eatable. the rice also felt undercooked. We were the only guest that night. We ordered the OASIS PLATTER $12.99 (1 Lamb, 1 Chicken and 1 Kufta skewer) and the LAMB SHISH KABAB PLATTER $13.99 (Marinated Cubes of veal). This was my favorite restaurant to order from for years. Today was the last time. I ordered from this restaurant for delivery and without explanation my order was cancelled and refunded. When I called, the explanation was the, "people in the kitchen had to go." This is the second time this happens recently. While this is not the best Middle Eastern fare that I have had, I have to say that it was real good. I started with the baba ghanoush. Very nice smoky flavor. Good, not the best, but damn good. Had the harira soup. Was nice, but a little mild in the spice department for my tastes. I then had the Oasis Platter, with lamb. chicken and kafta kebabs. This was very good! I asked for the lamb medium. It came a perfect medium. The chicken was very moist. the Kafta was tasty. Rice was refreshingly not mushy. I do have to agree with one thing that a previous poster said... One of the condiments was mayonnaise based instead of yogurt and mint. I ate there on a Tue evening. They were getting pretty busy with take out as well as the adjacent grocery store, so the service was a little slow. I mean really... understandable. They were very friendly. The only complaint I have is that most of the meat dishes I get are pretty dry. They say they marinade their meats and what not but it doesn't taste like it to me. I went here once on a Friday when they have an optional buffet. The buffet was a mess. They don't replenish the food. They put out what they've designated for the buffet and that's it. When it's done, it's done. If you're not there at the beginning, you will not get a good selection. Since the food isn't being refilled, no one looks over it, stirs it so it doesn't get dried & crusty or even takes away the empty dishes. As a result, many of the dishes looked picked over & dried out. I did get to sample koshari for the first time which was surprisingly delicious. Being able to try new things was the main reason I chose the buffet so that was a success. The flavor & seasoning of food wasn't half bad. The staff were the root of the issues at this establishment. They behaved as though everyone should understand their disorganized method of serving customers. When my party of six came in, we were told to pick a table and be seated. We could eat from the buffet, order from the menu or both. Before I sat down with my plate from the buffet, I went to the counter to order an appetizer, probably hummus. At that point, I didn't know who our server was - if anyone - because several guys had been interacting with our party. At the counter, I was told that I should sit down & someone would be over to take our order. I waited & waited but no one showed up. I eventually got fed up & stormed back over to the counter where I ended up raising my voice at the employee who had directed me to sit down. I asked him to explain how the serving process works multiple times. He apologized, he provided an excuse about why he thought someone else had taken the order but he never explained the logistics of the restaurant. I imagine that's because there is no order there. I'm not sure how those folks are running a business but there are enough Mediterranean restaurants in the area where I don't have to worry about it. read more
