I don't eat indian food much but when I do I order from this place. The past couple of times I've been slightly disappointed but it had been a while so I gave it one last try. The naan, which is pricey for what it is, was hard in the middle. This happened last time, too. Do they give delivery orders the worst naan or what? It seems like it. Disappointing! The chicken was overcooked. Like it had been in the sauce all day long. Other than being spicey it was bland. I'm not vegetarian but the veggie balls and sauce used to be the highlight. I loved dipping the naan into it. Those days seem over. The Veggie balls weren't round but mushy. You could barely tell they were ever round. Pleh! Goodbye Biryani. You used to be amazing. We visited this place as a date day. The young lady that served us our food was so pleasant and helpful. We ordered a lot of different things in order to gauge the varieties that they had to offer. We ordered a seafood dish, a chicken dish and a goat dish. Everything was delicious. It came out piping hot, so it spoke to the freshness of our food. The amount of time it took to cook our food was so reasonable and quick. If you want to go for lunch, order ahead of time. They go light on the salt, which is great health wise, but definitely would've liked a little more seasoning to taste. The spices and herbs used made up for it though. Updated review after 3 years: One thing the wife misses the most about working in downtown Oakland is all the great restaurants for lunch! There are a handful that are still worth going to on a weekend or day off, and Biryani Kanab is one of them. There are Monday lunch specials for $10.99 which included limited entree selection (Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, etc.) that comes with rice, salad, and naan. I found the lamb curry soft and tender, and that sauce is great over rice and naan. Naan were baked to be golden crispy and slightly oily which kept it moist. Chicken Biryani is also an excellent dish - three bone-in pieces covered by the spicy rice. Enjoy with some of that yogurt sauce! The Tandoori Fish used to be my wife's favorites and was the main reason we would trek up to Oakland for lunch. This time, portion size was smaller and the seasoning inside the catfish wasn't as strong. The texture is still soft and moist, but the dish overall is not as good as we remember. Slight downgrade to 4 stars. The classic Indian dishes like biryani, curry, and naan are still above-average among Bay Area Indian/Pakistani restaurants IMHO. read more

Got some food here last week. They have 2 small table inside for indoor dinning. They only have 2 cooks and 1 server so the service can be slow. They also seem to be pretty busy with the Togo order too. I tried out their chicken biryani. Hm the rice was pretty fluffy, lot of flavor and you can actually fish out some spice like cinnamon, cardamom, star anise and cumin. The chicken was on the bone, they was moise, but could use more seasoning, they wasn't as flavorful as the rice. The saag paneer, I enjoyed it with the garlic naan, it have a mild bitter taste in the back ground, something burned? It was not bad, could do more seasoning as well. I was surprised that the achaar was not free, they was actually 3 buc, it was small, but I like the salty, sour, pickle stuff, they helped cut the fattiness of the other dish, so I just have to get them. Was craving biryani and they had decent ratings The biryani was just average, there was no paneer in veg biryani, wish it had more masala too, and the raita was half empty.
