came here just for the clam chowder, was not disappointed. perfect fresh clams, thick and creamy, and comes with bread instead of crackers! i also tried their meatball sub for their soup & 1/2 sandwich special, it was good enough but difficult to hold. clam chowder 9.5/10 meatball sub 6/10 bishco has a huge menu and i received my order in less than 10 minutes, super hot! will be back to try more. definitely try their clam chowder! ambiance: 3.5/5 food: 4.5/5 service: 5/5 bishco: 4.3/5

    Grilled chicken salad

Decided to try this local spot on a whim and so glad I did. Originally I was just going to grab a salad and head home, but the atmosphere is so inviting I had to stay and dine in. A delicious grilled chicken salad and some sparkling water later and I had a lovely table right next to the window. It was a nice retreat to be able to people watch and enjoy a good meal. Superb service, friendly staff, and fast delivery of food all make this place a delightful place for a lunch, by yourself or with some friends. The menu has plenty of options, a variety of flavors for all diets, and a prime spot in downtown. I'm hooked. Love this place and will DEFINITELY be back. 10/10

This isn't really on the menu, but you can design it--CA salad w/ falafel and hummus, vinaigrette on the side (all vegan! and so good).

I was kind of worried that Gloucester would be a vegan desert, but it turned out to have a great vegan dessert! Puns aside, this place is great. The menu is super customizable, with pitas and wraps and salads. I designed my own falafel salad by taking the California salad, asking for vinaigrette on the side, and adding falafel and hummus to it--absolutely amazing. But the hands-down best part of this place is the vegan soft-serve. They have one size and I don't know what they call it, but I'd call it ENORMOUS. A ton of soft-serve with the mix-ins of your choice (which are actually blended into the soft-serve), and then you can top it how you want. I got the happy cow flavor (berries and chocolate chips) and it was incredible. Favorite place in Gloucester by far.

I just met her, but I felt like I was coming home. I waited for my friend to arrive & a couple bar seats to open up, and there were about two dozen people who came in after me while the wait was predicted to be an hour since most had just been seated, so they left. I wish they waited because it did clear up after about 30-40 minutes, but it was hard to predict on a Thursday at 7:30pm during a random downpour. I would encourage anyone to try The Burn, and to wait if needed. It's updated nicely, a bit cozy yet spacious when you're seated. Jess, our bartender, is also very welcoming and hospitable. I ordered a Gold Rush: ghost tequila, cointreau, pineapple, jalapeño & lime; I recall telling my friend, "this is exactly how I wish all my drinks tasted." I ordered the meatballs appetizer, and they got the haddock sandwich. The fries were excellent, and the meatballs were great. My friend loved their sandwich, fresh local haddock of course. Jess helped me make my decision between 3 options and it was perfect for my tastes and appetite of the evening. gold rush 10/10 meatballs 10/10 The Burn has excellent food & service, an elevated casual vibe, and warm, welcoming service. As you walk down the many streets of Gloucester you often wonder to yourself where the town comes together, where is there a harmonious relationship between the peoples? As this would seem to be a question hard to answer, it is actually quite simple and beautiful. You find this at Sclafanis. In essence this store is an Italian front with many memories, much love, great food, and great people. There are many places that people will remark to be "the greatest" or "the best" though using these terms would describe a restaurant that has yet to break free of its rudimentary cuisine, not the case at Sclafanis. The Pizmiaf is made on a fresh loaf of Sclafanis crispy Italian bread, followed by the fresh prosciutto sliced in house. After the base of this sandwich comes to form, it is topped with fresh mozzarella slices. Individuality is prided here so you are welcome to put as many of the fresh crisp vegetable toppings on as desired. Lastly this sandwich is finished with olive oil, a splash of balsamic vinegar and their fresh wonderful medley of Italian herbs. If this does not satisfy ones appetite for joy, good food, and good people than they have yet to rethink their feelings.

Consistently excellent breads. Very good pizza slices as well. Slightly off the beaten path…read morecompared to the better-known Virgilios but Sclafani's is definitely worth the visit.

I always use Yelp to see what is around and this looked like a good option. So glad we stopped! My husband had the swordfish. He said the best swordfish he had the whole trip!!! Nice large piece of fish and he said it had little too much blacking seasoning but he was it was amazing. I could not decide what I wanted because it all looked so good. It was lunch and I really wanted the Risotto. But, I didn't want anything super heavy. Glad I chose it anyway. Holy smokes was it delicious. The risotto was perfectly cooked and not too buttery. I have found Maine loooves their butter & often drown their dishes. This was perfect. The fish was amazing and I definitely over ate!! Thinking back, this was one of my most favorite meals in all of Maine. I still dream of that Risotto.

All 3 of us ordered the egg sandwich. It's cooked egg (like a puck) on 2 slices of plain bread with about 1 teaspoon of cheese that is such a small amount that it doesn't cover most of the egg. That's it. Not enough cheese, no butter, no salt, no pepper. Nothing. They don't even toast the bread. If we had tasked our 6 year old nephew to making us egg sandwiches, this is what he would hand us. My cousins had coffee. One hot and the other cold. Hot reportedly is pretty good and the iced is not very strong. I ordered an iced tea. When iced tea is made fresh from actual tea (a good thing), then sits in the fridge for 6 or 7 days (a bad thing), it gets a very distinctive stale taste and that's exactly what this iced tea had. It was old and stale. I threw it away and since the egg sandwich was so dry, I pulled a bottle of water I had in my beach tote to wash it down. My cousin asked the friendly staffer (super friendly, actually, so a shout out to them) for some salt and this turned into a task. She had to ask someone else and that person had to go off somewhere to get some from a plastic container. If you're going to serve unseasoned food, have salt available, please. I ordered a croissant, which was OK and my other cousin ordered a blueberry slab dessert that was smothered in so much icing that it was sickeningly sweet. We joked that eying it from the side, the icing was thicker than the pastry itself. One of us grabbed a knife and tried to scrape some off to no avail. It fell apart, none of us wanted any more and we tossed most of it. I like to support small businesses, but this was not a good experience for us.
