For lunch, we visited Bizmarkcito, which is a mariscos place. It's located on the La Paz Malecon. The restaurant is open air to the front with tables inside and out. It's a very large venue. We ordered the grilled fish (sea bass) with vegetables, six oysters, a lobster taco, and a shrimp taco. The grilled fish was good, and the portion was large. My wife enjoyed the oysters. The lobster taco was grounded up meat with no taste. The shrimp taco was okay. The shrimp were large, but again little taste compared to other area spots. Regarding the service, it was very good. We came here for the view and ambiance, knowing that holes in the wall a few blocks off the Malecon would likely have better food. That being said, this place was an enjoyable experience. We came during Carnaval, and had a table that allowed us to stay within the hubbub of the area, with an ocean view. My husband enjoyed his fish tacos, though I thought they were a bit bland (nothing that can't be fixed by salsa and roasted peppers, of course). He also ordered what I thought was a dogfish taco (apparently a type of shark), but what came looked more like an empanada (fried, and closed up). I took a bite, and thought it was pretty good. Texture was similar to tuna. I ordered a fish ceviche, and enjoyed it. I did order one rather disappointing oyster, which was really fishy tasting. We also had a couple of Michelada. Wonderful location on the Malecon. Plenty of seating inside and out. Most of the staff speak enough English to get by if you don't speak Spanish. Varied menu though mostly seafood (understandably). I had a ribeye steak the first night and though quite tasty, it had a lot of fat and gristle. The next night I had a cheeseburger that was way too salty. After all the hype, this place was truly a disappointment. First they didn't want to seat us together, we were a party of 8. We finally did get to sit together. Second, they ran out of lobster, only the really, really big one's were left, at market price. So I had to get my lobster in chunks on a baked potato, which lacked any flavor whatsoever. I ordered a seafood pizza and the cheese was too thick and the oysters were way too smoked. Most things were spicy so I wouldn't suggest this restaurant for spice sensitive people. The restaurant seemed understaffed. Not enough servers and only one cook in the kitchen. It took 30 minutes just to get our drinks. The food was bland. My young daughters ordered the fish sticks from the kids menu but the waiter said they ran out so we changed it to chicken fingers. We waited over an hour for our food and also overheard other tables complaining. My daughter's chicken was burnt and dry. They made a new batch but it was overcooked and dry. My wife ordered marlin tacos estilo gobernador. They were plain and bland. Only had fish and cheese. None of the delicious gobernador salsa. I ordered el pulpo al ajo. It was nothing special again bland. The worst part was my daughter getting sick and vomiting back at the hotel. I also had diarrhea back at the hotel room. I'm not going to say it was this restaurant that made us sick and I'm 100% sure. But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... I would not recommend this place to anyone. 1) understaffed and long waits for everything. 2) dull and bland food (possibly sick) 3) restaurant named after a Nazi battleship literally Adolph Hitlers Navy pride. This place is not at all what it's cracked up to be. It came recommended by more than one local and I left sadly disappointed. The assorted oysters were terrible and since 8 out of 10 of them were baked, that's not saying much for the oysters. Perhaps not the restaurant's fault the oysters sucked, but it is their fault they flipped the orders on me and my buddy. We both ordered 1 lobster taco each. He ordered a fish taco and me a shrimp taco. I mistook the fish for prawns and he mistook my shrimp for chopped fish, but it was all fried so it was hard to tell which was which. In either case, the lobster was great. The fish, not so much. Very greasy. Aside from that snafu, I was annoyed we had to go to the equivalent of a salad bar to dress our tacos. read more

I went to Bizmark for dinner. They are known for and it says on the menu their house specialty is lobster. They talked me into garlic lobster 600MXP ($30+). I said, "Sure!" They came back a minute later and said market price is 1400MXP ($70+)! You can eat lobster in the best restaurant in San Diego for less than that with an ocean front view!! Jakes Restaurant on the beach in Del Mar, CA is one example and is way better than Bizmark!!! So I said no to the garlic lobster. They then talked me into lobster burritos 600MXPs and they were terrible. As far as service goes, it wasn't terrible. The waiter arrived in short order and was fairly attentive. The food took about 40 minutes to come out and you are constantly harangued by flies. read more

My favorite place for seafood while we are here. The menu has a lot of variety, and the waiters speak relatively good English. The service usually is speedy, and the food is reasonably priced. There is lots of seating, both inside the open restaurant and outside on the street front. We had a deep fried whole snapper. The meat was good and fresh. We are it with the salsa for the topos (chips). We like things spicy but not sour spicy so we didn't use any of the bottles chilies that they gave us. CHOCOLATE CLAMS We also ordered almejas chocolatas naturales (meaning they shuck them and serve them raw, like oysters). These were delicious. The meat is crunchy, but it is gritty at times. We like them with lemon, salt, and habanero chile. CEVICHE DE PESCADO A fish type salad where the fish is mixed in raw and cooked with the lime juice of the salad. It's good. It wasn't anything to rave about. The fish was shredded so small that you couldn't tell it was fish. FIRE GRILLED OCTOPUS A specialty dish, we asked to have it cooked a little spicy. It was good. The octopus was perfectly cooked and had a good flavor. It wasn't spicy; it just looked that way. There aren't many restaurants serving octopus here in La Paz. It is worth the stop. GRILLED MARLIN This dish was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked. It was encrusted around the outside when seasame and grilled. Over a drizzle of a light mustard. It was perfect. Im going to keep this short and sweet. Theres no shortage of seafood places in la paz. Forst drawback was that the indoor seating was super hot and stuffy. We chose to sit outside in the shade to enjoy the breeze. At first there were a couple flies, it was tolerable, but when the food came there was no less than 25 big flies buzzing around. Totally ruined the mood. They have some kind of candle to try to ard them off but it doesnt work. The seafood in the ceviche was mashed the whole thing felt like a patte. My mojito lacked any taste of alcohol. It tasted good just wondering where the alcohol was ‍ All around bad. Go to Marinera. This place is great. Small dining area but it never seems too busy and you can always make reservations. The service is a little slow and the food takes around 30-40 minutes. They do give you unlimited supply of salsa and chips so by the time you get your food, you're kind of stuffed. It's great if you love having leftovers the next day. The lobster is good but a little pricey for the size and amount of meat in it. It's got AC and a beautiful mural of the ocean and it's creatures. They have another restaurant right out front by the malecón which is 5x as big with a great view of the ocean, the only downside is that it is an open space and there are lots of flies. If you want a peaceful experience without having to swat the flies away, then you should try this place first. Both places are great. read more

I rarely review spots outside LA because exposing my travel patterns could blow my anonymity. Only heaven and a few souls know who I am and how I ended up here in this Mexican seaside town. Starving, I placed my order, downed a Pacifica, and stared out at the harbor. In contrast to the modest buildings and humble locals around me, there in the water sat multi-million dollar yachts with names like "Sea Pearl" and "Daydreamer". If I had a yacht, I would just name it "El Pendejo" because I figure a lot of folks would mutter that when they see me sail by. Although you can't eat a yacht, you CAN eat happiness: "almejas chocolatas". Not a sweet dessert, but chocolate clams. "Chocolate" referring to the shell color rather than the taste. A couple of guys at our table ordered it served in-shell...the glistening flesh still moving. I got mine in a bowl of ceviche-like gazpacho...cool and refreshing. These forkers were huge. The lips tender, meaty, slightly briny, unforgettable. Never in my life had I given much thought to clams. As I ate, I started Googling these bivalves and came to a horrible realization: I think I may have just eaten great-grandpa. You see, a clam of this size had probably been in the ocean for a loooong time. Clams are the world's oldest living animal. The record was a 507 year-old clam found in 2006. He was nicknamed "Ming" because he had been alive since the Ming Dynasty. Sadly, "Ming" was killed by scientists trying to figure out how old he was. read more
