Ran into El Toro Güero on our way to hotel by accident. Never knew it existed and we were told this location has been around do 12 years. Looking at old photos of the exterior, it's no wonder we've passed this place up every time we've driven through. It was around evening time when we noticed their business sign -bright and vivid. We were familiar with the restaurant in Cabo so we knew the seafood would be good. We had to stop by as we were too starve to wait. We were greeted, seated and given menus immediately. A complimentary tea cup size fish broth arrived at our table; it was bland, but hot. I ordered my usual mixto civeche as my partner with her usual clams. Our food and drinks arrived in no time. While she had no complaints, unfortunately, my ceviche was not what I had expected. I figured since I liked the Toro Guero in Cabo so much, La Paz location would not disappoint. My mixto ceviche was dry and was missing seasoning. It was missing a "kick." Nonetheless, I lemoned it up and finished the entire dish without issues. Like I said, I was hungry. We returned today before our flight back home to San Diego. I wanted to try something new. The shrimp burrito was ok. I always enjoy eating here when I am in La Paz the staff is great the food is always exceptional. My favorite is the garlic shrimp, lots of nicely cooked shrimp with delicious butter garlic sauce. It's a was meh experience. So many positive review and our friends have been here numerous times and heard nothing but great things. However, this visit with those friends were subpar. The food were overcooked, burnt and lack taste. The lobsters dish was very good and cooked well. We were a party of 10 they sat us very quick, slapped some menus on the table and returned in 10 min to take our orders. We ordered everything from sashimi, shrimp cocktails, fish tacos, oysters, lobster, empanadas, and whole fried sea bass. Everything was tasty but the fish tacos can be better they were lacking flavor. We were told that this place is a tourist restaurant not really a place the local visit, however this does not change the quality of the food. The mix drinks were strong and delicious. Food is really good, prices are definitely great for the fact that this is a lot of good seafood. The place is for locals, clean, simple and things are well done. The oysters needed to be colder I think. The sauce of the house was marvelous. The coconut shrimp was dreamy. The lobster was really 3 lobster tails not a full one which was not explained in the menu, flavor was good but a little bit too much spices on the sauce. I think the veggie salad was contaminated because I got sick few hours after eating there and my partner and I ate the sea food but he did not eat the salad at all. So be careful with the veggies. Cannot say anything bad! My husband ordered the seafood molcajete and it was seriously off the hook. Like.. A huge molcajete filled with shrimp scallops octopus cucumber onion tomato. Something we both fail to put into words. I'm mostly vegetarian although not so strict that I won't try bites... I don't mind the taste of meat but I have an autoimmune condition that causes very negative reactions to dead animal products, even gelatin. That being said I have become highly experienced in cheese and eggs which leads me to... CHILE RELLENOS holy shit. These were so different than any chile rellenos I've ever had. They used yellow peppers, stuffed with that special Mexican melty cheese like fundido? I'm honestly not sure because once I start stuffing my face I don't want to talk anymore lol. Anyway the rellenos were BREADED IN PANKO OMG on a bed of something like rice pilaf with a side of tartar sauce. I also ordered chips and guac... Which i wish I was still eating right this minute even though we ate there 24 hours ago and a lot has happened since then! As far as price goes... It was considerably more than what we usually pay, but still very reasonable compared to US prices. We spent 550 MXN (before tip) approx $27 US.
