Had dinner here last night for our 8th anniversary. Not bad. We ordered the: - pork loin scaloppini al limone: pork loin sauteed in a lemon & butter sauce with capers, served w/ spinach and roasted potatoes. $18.95 -- my hubby liked his dish. it arrived piping hot and the serving was very generous. the pork was tender; the potatoes and spinach were very flavorful. - butternut squash ravioli: sage brown butter & cream sauce. $17.95 -- to their credit, it's not that bistro 13's squash ravioli was bad at all. it's just that i've had squash ravioli at over a dozen restaurants, so i'm forced to compare. this dish was mediocre compared to other versions i've had. plus, my serving seemed a bit puny compared to my hubby's generous pork loin dish. by the time i was done eating my ravioli, he was barely halfway with his pork dish. - minestrone soup: nothing special here. my hubby compared it to a can of Campbell's soup. - pink clam chowder: quite tasty. i would say it was a couple notches above Campbell's soup quality. this paired really well with the bread for dipping. i have mixed emotions about the bread. i was really looking forward to it after a few Yelpers on here raved about how great the bread was. well, there i sat anxiously awaiting our bread basket. when it finally came, i pulled out the first piece and, well, it was cold, stale and very crunchy. my hubby, on the other hand, pulled out his first slice and it was warm and soft. i gave it another chance after that; the rest of the bread slices were also warm, soft, and very tasty. so, as long as you get a "good batch," the bread can be very addictive. food aside, the service and the setting were exemplary. we were checked on every few minutes. our drinks never reached half-empty. every one from the host, hostess, servers, and busboys gave us undivided attention. the atmosphere was warm, comfortable, and romantic. bottom line, i'd come back here again, but only with a restaurant.com voucher. read more

It doesn't get much better than this...normally, I would yelp to find a restaurant when traveling, but because I agreed with my gf not to bring a laptop, we went to dinner sans yelp-help... Luckily, the kitchen gods were watching over us, because we found Bistro 13. The service was outstanding - our server jumped through hoops to get our heat lamp lit, then was very informative about the menu. You know when a server is too attentive? Or ignores you until the check is delivered? They have a splendid understanding of what is a good mix. Then there was the food - just amazingly good! my gf had one of the specials, prawns with pasta and artichoke. I had the filet mignon. We were both so happy with our food.... My wife and I have been here twice now, each time using a Restaurant.com coupon that brought the cost down. We like it, as the service is very attentive, and the food is good. I've had their butternut squash ravioli and eggplant parm like dish (called something else). Both were really nice meals. My wife had a nice, light pasta dish, and there are several ways to get pasta here. The bread is warm and delicious, and salads are serviceable. I enjoy their tiramisu, and the gelato is really, really nice (homemade). Stay away from the baked brie, as the balsamic covered roasted garlic renders the small slivers of brie underneath it un-tasteable (if that's a word). read more

Stopped by to have dinner after work and dinner was so wonderful I went back the next evening and took some friends. I asked Giovanni the owner to surprise us with a four course dinner. We started out with a beautifully presented buratta salad with fresh, sweet heirloom tomatoes, beets and a drizzle of basaltic glaze. Next course was lobster ravioli in a light butter sauce. Just enough to tease you! Pistachio crusted halibut served over garlic,lemon infused garlic spinach was a big hit. Our last course was another house specialty, chicken piccata. Tender pieces of chicken with just enough wine butter and capers. Had no room for desert but had the night before the carrot cake and it was delicious. We left very happy. Giovanni was very attentive . We felt like he was serving us dinner in his home! We will be back soon. read more

This place was outstanding. I wanted the Heirloom Tomato Salad but our great (and long suffering) waitress let me know that they had just run out of the Heirloom Tomatoes. Well, that was no problem since what I really wanted was to try the burrata cheese so she substituted it for the mozzarella in the the Insalata Caprese for me. That was awesome. We showed up without a reservation on a Saturday night and they were very busy with big parties. The owner didn't hesitate to set up a table for us on the grass! It felt like we were having a picnic. A very nice addition to the Mission Oaks area of Camarillo. It's a small place with about a dozen tables. Service staff is attentive and helpful. We ordered the butternut squash ravioli, spaghetti pomodoro, angel hair pasta with the four cheese sauce, and the baked brie. We all loved our dishes. The raviolis were very fresh and tasty. The sauce went very well with the sweet taste of the butternut squash. The pomodoro sauce was slightly spicy and had a lot of flavor. Their wine selection was good but beer choices were somewhat limited and sold by the bottle. They also have a limited bar selection. A little expensive for me. I'm assuming that Camarillo doesn't have an abundance of top notch restaurants, so forgive me if this is not true. Perhaps my expectations were low. Bistro 13 was excellent! The service was great, and the food, even better. I decided to go to Camarillo for a mother-daughter pre-college trip. We went outlet shopping, showered in our hotel, and walked over to Bistro 13. I was impressed with the food; it was flavorful, fresh, and done perfectly. I ordered the scallop special and my daughter ordered the sausage pasta with rotini. We would definitely go again. Mediocre food and overpriced. The Mrs. and I ended up there, by chance. We were looking for a bite before a movie and stepped in. It was Saturday evening, just after 8 pm. As we did not plan on a full dinner, we only ordered two appetizers, a fried calamari and some baked Brie and roasted garlic toast. The calamari was chewy and the baked Brie toast was very plain. Nothing to write home about. Both were overpriced, for my taste. For these two appetizer plates and a glass of house wine, we ended up paying just over $40 + service. Definitely too much. On the brighter side of things, I must say that the service was very accommodating and nice. People eating at adjacent tables, looked like they were enjoying themselves. Wanting to support local restaurants during our Novid-19 shutdown, or whatever we call it, thought I'd try Bistro 13 since they were offering delivery and I had been there for several fund-raising events in the past. Ordered Pollo Marsala which, having made before myself, and loved, thought I couldn't go wrong. Ordered soup as a side. Must say that Urber Eats delivered early! the gentleman was every bit that and no complaints. HOWEVER, the chicken marsala was absolutely tasteless! I had requested potatoes on the side and instead got a pile of bland spaghetti! Could not believe chicken marsala having no taste! Whatever!! And the presentation was totally colorless and unappetizing. And this is no exaggeration, even my dog, who normally will eat almost everything, was not at all interested in it. If you have any interest in maintaining your business during these trying times, you may want to re-examine your quality standards. read more

Awesome Italian restaurant, friendly atmosphere and good food to match it with excellent service! Was visiting from NJ and stopped by with my family. They staff was super friendly and seated us almost immediately. It seemed they knew almost everyone coming in and we're giving hugs to the regulars and just generally making everyone feel at home. The fish specials were delish. I got the halibut and my father got the sea bass both with risotto and spinach and they were mouth watering. My mom got the butternut squash ravioli and thought it had a nice light cream sauce and tender ravioli. The brie appetizer with toast and balsamic was good as well as the selection of deserts. Wines were reasonably priced and a good variety. We would all definitely come back here if passing through the area. I have no idea what the person before was talking about being assaulted, and would feel very safe in this restaurant. After reading that review I briefly thought of skipping the restaurant but could tell the person was probably crazy who wrote it. read more

Management made the whole experience easy and I started the night without a care in the world. I can see Bistro 13 as your small town, neighborhood Italian restaurant. Dinner here is pretty standard. I had the baked brie with grilled onions on a bruschetta for appetizer and filet mignon. The baked brie had an interesting blend of flavor with the grilled onions. I liked it. How can you go wrong with buttery cheese on a bruschetta? The filet was more of a let down. It was cooked well, but I was expected seared on the outside to give it texture. My friend got a seafood pasta dish, and that looked good too. Maybe I'll try that next time! read more

A small, trendy Italian place tucked in a strip mall with indoor and outdoor seating. It was really busy on a Friday night but we were able to get a table right away. The servers were very attentive. Free bread - really delicious. It had a denser structure like cake and really shone after chewing when it got this creamy texture and delicious flavor. I'm not sure what they put in it, some sort of spice. Pink clam chowder (served with entree) - I hadn't had pink clam chowder before. They said it was a mix of Manhattan and New England. It tasted funny and had too high of a potato to clam ratio. Mushroom risotto with filet mignon - the risotto was quite good, creamy with great mushroom flavor and chunks of mushrooms. I liked the balsamic vinegar sauce around the edges that gave it a nice hint of acidity. There were several large filet chunks that had a nice flavor but were a bit dry. Veal lasagna - Not so good, the mushroom risotto was definitely better. It was overflowing with meat crumbles. My partner seemed to enjoy the sauce it came with. Spent a couple of days with at the Marriott Courtyard in Camarillo with a girlfriend so we could enjoy the outlet shopping and within immediate walking distance is this fabulous restaurant. I ordered sausage and pasta and my friend ordered veal bolognese - both dishes were mouth-watering delicious, well-priced, very generous and came with a side salad and wonderful bread. A Cesar salad could be substituted for an additional $2.95. The service was fantastic from the minute we walked in until we left. I celebrated a graduation dinner here recently and was worried as I didn't really have much options as we had a specialized private party. The dinner was pre-paid and options were pre-selected, but everything was delicious. I had the salmon on a bed of spinach and mash potatoes and my plate was empty. Salmon and spinach was cooked perfectly and the sauce was creamy and buttery. The only reason I didnt give this place a five star rating is the strange setup. Apparently the area was closed off for our party, but prior to it a small group was in the area early and they lingered at the bar area even though over 20 people showed up to their private party and it didn't automatically que them to think they should probably move to another bar area. The even stranger part is after they left, they came back 2 hours later. A woman all by herself walks through our private party sits down at the bar and says to the bartender she likes it better here. He serves her and she watches the TV throughout the evening and toasts. I was in utter shock that the establishment didn't do anything. I didn't say anything as it wasn't my place to and i didn't want to ruin the really good atmosphere. I took my adult daughter here for dinner after reading about the place and generally saw positive reviews. I started off with a Pomegranite martini. Was delicious. The bread was terrific. She ordered the lobster ravioli and I order a special of butternut squash ravioli with chicken, asparagus, basil. Absolutely the best dinner I can remember having in a very long time. For desert, we shared tiramisu and it was divine. Service was very good and I liked the atmosphere. From the outside, the place looks like it would be more casual/less pricey--I don't know if it is the green lettering above the establishment, or it's location, but I just would not have expected the prices to be as high as they were. The martini was great, but was $10. My daughter had an ice tea and we shared a desert. The total was in the high $70's with tip -- so it was not cheap. Based strictly on the food, I would think the place would be packed, but seeing the total bill with just one alcoholic drink, a shared dessert and two entree's, I can't afford to visit this place on a regular basis. Yet, as I mentioned, the dinner was to die for: fresh, creative and great flavors. A definite recommend! read more

I went there a few times and the servers were so polite and classy, I had that feeling of the good old times, when manners were common and all people spoke nicely and respectfully to each other. This time around, there was a new lady, that made our night so wonderful! The food was extraordinary and the ice cream and gelato- absolutely amazing! We ordered the coconut, that arrived in an actual coconut shell. They said it was important from Italy, which I believed, as soon as the good old real Italian flavor sank in !
