Good Food and Great Service!! We just stopped by this place while we were nearby and it totally lived up to its reputation(from the reviews). We were here on Saturday night and chose the outdoor seating. Their music and ambience created the right vibe. We ordered the empanadas for an appetizer. It was hot and crunchy (totally loved the presentation). I got the lamb chops (well done) for my entrée and I'd say they weren't as good as I had at other places. Overall, the desert topped it off. When I called to make a reservation, the person answered the phone "hello?" Leading me to think it wasn't the correct number. When I said I wanted to make a reservation, he fake took the reservation and didn't even ask my name or anything so I could tell they never have many customers at a one time. The group I was going with wanted somewhere quiet where we didn't have to yell over blaring music to converse with each other. This was okay with me and the Yelp promo "spend $15 for $30 to spend at the restaurant" convinced me this place would be just fine. The chef/waiter/host/bartender plugged in his cellphone to play music and his text notifications kept interrupting the music which kept going silent after each song. Total cheapy vibes. The man who was running the show got our drinks for us and they were okay. The decor looked like it hasn't been touched since the place opened (from the looks of it, guessing early 90s) and you could smell the food that was being cooked in the kitchen, like there wasn't a hood vent or something. I had the Mediterranean paella and it was BLAND. There was a lot of seafood on the plate, but like other reviews said they desperately need to invest in some spices and add some kind of flavor. I drowned it in black pepper & lemon juice and it was edible but not worth going out for. I will say that the empanadas were fantastic. The chef didn't really allow for substitutions and was seemingly annoyed when we requested basic things (like swapping potatoes for Brussel sprouts). So we get to pay and I present the voucher and he was like no we can't take this. I said that it literally says right on it you have to accept it. He argued that since they haven't had business (tried to say it was a slow season or something like that) the "new owner" said not to take them anymore. I told him to call the owner and then he proceeded to tell me that he can't take it and he will give me $30 of his own money to pay it and literally took out $30 and put it on my table while adding that he has a family to feed. Can you believe it?! He wouldn't just deduct the $30 from the check. I'm not one to argue over $30. The point is that the voucher brought me there in the first place and they wouldn't accept it even though it blatantly said they have to. Don't waste your time coming here. I can't imagine this place will be open much longer. This place needs new management, a spice cabinet and some cosmetic upgrades to match the area it resides in if there's any hope at all for it. Til that happens, find somewhere else on Westport ave- There are plenty of far better choices within a mile radius. read more

I should've turned away as soon as I saw the typo on the menu "The Best Tapas in Twon". Just like the menu, everything including the food and service was awful. We ordered a pear salad and got a salad with canned pears. Who in their right mind would serve canned pears to their patrons? We also ordered a ribeye steak, what arrived was far from acceptable. We received a gray colored, flavorless, and under-seasoned steak. The steak wasn't even a ribeye, it was a sirloin. It had no sear and no appeal. The mojitos were mediocre, and the tapas we ordered were nothing to write home about. The best tapas in twon? Maybe, but the best in town? Definitely not. Sweet hidden gem! stopped by here while i was going to open houses in CT and this spot really did it! the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating (dog onsite for their outdoor seating) and the food was absolutely delicious. we were ironically on our way elsewhere but i'm glad we were so hungry we decided to stop by here instead because it was ridiculously filling and flavorful. We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was really good. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted and seated. For starters we ordered a pitcher of Sangria which was delicious. For appetizers we had the empanadas and stuffed lamb peppers. We were served two empanadas, one beef and one chicken. My preference was the beef. The stuffed lamb pepper was absolutely delicious, definitely my favorite appetizer. For our entrees I had the surf and turf which was delicious and plated beautifully. My girlfriend had the short rib pappardelle entree and she thought it was awesome. The servings were very large, we loved it. To finish off our evening we had the puff pastry with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the desert. I would have preferred if the puff pastry would have been a bit lighter and warmer. Overall we were impressed with the establishment and definitely will return to try other items from the menu. read more

Came here for dinner with the Groupon discount. The food here is unlike any other place I've tried. We had the risotto de mariscos (favorite dish) and lamb kabob tapas, and my penne pasta with chicken and spanish sausage entree was melt-in-my-mouth amazing. Such rich, unique flavors that are hard to find elsewhere. Even the brussel sprout salad was packed with flavor! The dessert was also great - not as excellent as the entrees but still very impressive. Also, extra points for restaurant ambience; loved the classy background music. Service was fast and courteous as well, up until the end. Had to go up and ask for the check after 15 mins post-dessert, but then again it was near closing time. The restaurant was really cold so be sure to bring a jacket. Overall, I love this place and I will certainly be coming back :) read more

Returned here for lunch after about a year and a half. Management changed and possibly ownership. When we first came it was amazing, easily 5 stars. We didn't think we could find something like this in Connecticut. However, this time the food was quite bad and low quality. Also, the manager who happened to be serving us was quite odd and was terrible at service. He didn't even know what ingredients were in the dishes and he was too busy watching soccer to seat us while we were just standing there. Will not return if I'm back in town read more

The touch of truffle and parmesan makes this salad heavenly! We also ADORE the steak tartar which is served with a quail egg. Our New Years Eve meal was comprised of several small dishes. Large meals were available, but it did look to me that you're generally steered towards ordering multiple smaller servings. The food was expertly prepared very neat on our plates. It was all delicious. My wife's seafood was incredible! I tasted the broth from both her "seafood soup", and sautéed shrimp. Both excellent! The shrimp were large. For dessert: flan and something that looked and tasted like crème brûlée, but named something else. Well priced: -2 Premium beer, -2 domestics, -6 small, delicious menu selections, dessert and coffee was just over $100 plus gratuity. The place is very clean. The waitress was attentive, tiny, hardworking (and cute). The parking lot is very easy to drive in & out of, even when crossing traffic. The location, just a couple doors downhill from Stew Leonard's and across from Verizon, is very convenient. If we didn't both work nights. Not consistent. After three scrumptious meals there -- superb meals, the four of us returned. It was a huge disappointment. They did not have the beer they had listed. Then, the empanadas were not as fresh as usual and they had cut way back on the portion of guacamole that accompanies them. Butternut squash soup was unremarkable and not worth consuming. One from our party ordered a chicken dish and each piece of the chicken was slimy and inedible. The pear/ginger salad was awful. The ginger dressing had an odd burning flavor. There was a piece of frozen cheese in the salad that they restaurant considered a garnish. Frozen cheese? This was not inexpensive, considering we could not eat most of it. I remember when the Bistro first opened ~ truly a dining experience worth your time. But now? Not even mediocre ... more like an embarassment. Examples? The shaved brussel sprouts salad was over-salted, and had been reduced to the consistency of sawdust ... aside from being green in color, it could have BEEN sawdust (or almost any other cruciferous vegetable ground to a near-powder). The risotto cake it rested on was overcooked and dry. The empanadas were "stale" at best, and likely had been crafted days before, refrigerated and reheated. What was supposed to have been a chicken filling in one tasted like fish (or faux fish). The beef filling of another was stringy and over-salted. My Husband and I ate here over the weekend as he has been wanting to try this restaurant out. We enjoy tapas and paella type meals a lot. Overall the sangria both white and red were very good. We really enjoyed these. The staff was friendly and quick with orders, drinks etc. On the whole, while we liked our food, didn't feel like it was amazing and/or want to get again. We have had better same style tapas at other local restaurants. One thing that was disappointing was the paella. The shellfish was very chewy and there was a lot of dry pork in it?? It tasted more like a risotto than paella. The lava cake also tasted undercooked and again have had much better elsewhere. I might come back for the sangria and maybe try a few other appetizers but not sure.... read more

We have been by this spot many times but hadn't thought to stop until we saw the great reviews in Yelp. I had a business lunch here with two colleagues. Instead of doing the prices fixed lunch we decided to have a bunch of tapas. Almost everything's was great. Patatas Bravas - spicy and delicious also enough to share for three. Meat on a stick over lentils - beef chicken and chorizo - we all liked this one. Buffalo chicken wings (6) -not a traditional buffalo sauce but spicy and with great flavor Fried cheese balls - excellent mozzarella with a light coating and fried. Pork medallions on toast - I really liked these, plenary of flavor. Veggie empanada - it looked good but I was full. The other guys ate it up. Cesar salad - nice plate full but not too much. And now why I say almost everything was great. If you were served a tortilla eapanola anywhere in the country of Spain that looked like a pancake you would likely not do well as a bar, restaurant or even cafe. Tortilla is always at least 1.5 to 2 inches thick. Although the flavor was authentic enough the simple size of the tortilla was not correct. If they fix that this place would be perfect. The sangria looked delicious but we had to back to work. The staff were very nice and took good care of us. This is a nice spot and worthy of a dinner with friends. We called ahead as it was nearing their closing time; the owner graciously invited us to come and made us feel very welcome. We had dinner here last night and everything was INCREDIBLE! We split a ton of tapas and a couple of entrees, everything was delicious. The crab cake appetizer was my favorite, super flavorful. The shrimp on the gambas a la plancha were cooked perfectly and the chickpea puree was quite good. The paella valenciana was the best paella we've ever had and an extremely generous portion for the price. And to top it off, the margaritas and mojitos were authentic & delicious! The restaurant is on a main road but the front patio was set up really nicely with plants and flowers so it didn't bother us at all. We believe it was the owner who served us. He was incredibly nice and very attentive. Honestly, this was just overall a great dining experience. The place was pretty slow, which is such a shame considering how great everything was. Its important now more than ever to support these family run local businesses... we'd highly recommend checking this place out! read more

The set up is beautiful but the people working out there ruined the experience for me.they were uncouth.their behavior and mannerisms changed towards us the minute we place our orders.we ordered for 2 entrees...they asked us in an uncomfortable manner whether we were going to order more later. We refused and then everything went downhill.judging some one on the basis of how much they order does not define their financial background and how they need to be treated.I'm paying for what im buying. They were reserved while serving the bread as if we would gobble down every free food that comes towards us. They did not give us our space while we ate, constantly monitoring us. Living near this location, we've seen a number of fairly mediocre restaurants come and go in this space. When I drove by recently and saw the latest incarnation was Mediterranean tapas, I was reservedly optimistic. I went by myself and had the steak tartare and pear salad. Each was outstanding! The tartare had a wonderful blend of flavors including fresh Parmesan and black truffle oil. The salad was excellent with thinly sliced pear, nuts and generous slices of blue cheese. Wow. The next trip I went with my husband, who is very finicky about tapas. He had the steak tartare, calamari with white beans, and the chorizo with white beans. He raved about them all. He also had a well-made gin martini, which was made exactly to his taste. The only reason we stopped ordering was because we couldn't stuff any more delicious food into our stomach. Believe me, we wanted to try! The service is excellent, the menu has a great selection, and the dishes are just as good if not better than what you get at Barcelona and other local tapas restaurants, for a fraction of the cost. While we love similar restaurants in Sono and Stamford, you get to avoid the noisy crowds, parking challenges and high prices here. The only negative I can see (and this is selfish on our part) is that the restaurant could get very crowded once "discovered". On one level, I hope it remains a somewhat hidden jewel... But the restaurant deserves all the appreciation it's receiving for its first rate product. Looks like a Trifecta!! I've now been to all 3 Bistro Mediterranean's.....East Haven, Westbrook, and now Norwalk. Every meal served to the four of us was spot on, and 100% consistent w/ her sister restaurants. Tastes were spot on, large portions, LARGE POURS, friendly service, and the prices were very reasonable. Steak tartar w/ Quail egg Paella Mediteranea Salads Lobster Bisque (Best) Mussels Cod cake balls (can't remember the name) Caramelized Banana My only suggestion would be to acquire a few more top TOP shelf liquors.
