I should've turned away as soon as I saw the typo on the menu "The Best Tapas in Twon". Just like the menu, everything including the food and service was awful. We ordered a pear salad and got a salad with canned pears. Who in their right mind would serve canned pears to their patrons? We also ordered a ribeye steak, what arrived was far from acceptable. We received a gray colored, flavorless, and under-seasoned steak. The steak wasn't even a ribeye, it was a sirloin. It had no sear and no appeal. The mojitos were mediocre, and the tapas we ordered were nothing to write home about. The best tapas in twon? Maybe, but the best in town? Definitely not. Barcelona Wine Bar takes that crown.

Sweet hidden gem! stopped by here while i was going to open houses in CT and this spot really did it! the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating (dog onsite for their outdoor seating) and the food was absolutely delicious. we were ironically on our way elsewhere but i'm glad we were so hungry we decided to stop by here instead because it was ridiculously filling and flavorful. They were even kind enough to bring out a dish in 2 plates already split up since they knew 2 people were going to be sharing it!

Sangria

If you don't try anything here. You Besta (better) try the Sangria... We did happy hour, thank God we arrived at the perfect time. We tried one of everything on the menu. Money well spent... Thank you for a wonderful service.

Amazing Tapas lunch! The food was really delicious in a cute atmosphere! They're doing a great job keeping in their protocols during these trying COVID times.

We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was really good. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted and seated. For starters we ordered a pitcher of Sangria which was delicious. For appetizers we had the empanadas and stuffed lamb peppers. We were served two empanadas, one beef and one chicken. My preference was the beef. The stuffed lamb pepper was absolutely delicious, definitely my favorite appetizer. For our entrees I had the surf and turf which was delicious and plated beautifully. My girlfriend had the short rib pappardelle entree and she thought it was awesome. The servings were very large, we loved it. To finish off our evening we had the puff pastry with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the desert. I would have preferred if the puff pastry would have been a bit lighter and warmer. Overall we were impressed with the establishment and definitely will return to try other items from the menu.

Risotto de mariscos

Came here for dinner with the Groupon discount. The food here is unlike any other place I've tried. We had the risotto de mariscos (favorite dish) and lamb kabob tapas, and my penne pasta with chicken and spanish sausage entree was melt-in-my-mouth amazing. Such rich, unique flavors that are hard to find elsewhere. Even the brussel sprout salad was packed with flavor! The dessert was also great - not as excellent as the entrees but still very impressive. Also, extra points for restaurant ambience; loved the classy background music. Service was fast and courteous as well, up until the end. Had to go up and ask for the check after 15 mins post-dessert, but then again it was near closing time. The restaurant was really cold so be sure to bring a jacket. Overall, I love this place and I will certainly be coming back :)

I received the worst steak here I've ever had. It was grey, no crust, no taste. Would never go here again.

Popular menu items include birria tacos, octopus, shrimp ceviche, and steak chimichurri. My daughter and I visited here for her birthday, and we both love Latin cuisine. As we walked in, we were greeted warmly and shown to our seats immediately. It was a chilly day, and the restaurant felt cold inside as well. The staff tried to warm things up with space heaters, but they didn't quite do the trick. We ordered empanadas, birria tacos, hanger steak, and sweet plantains with crema and queso fresco. When the dishes arrived, they were lukewarm--a bit disappointing, considering how cold it was outside. The birria tacos were delicious, though again, they could have been hotter. The meat was tender and well-seasoned, but I would have liked it a bit crisper. The hanger steak was tender, and the Pico de Gallo was bursting with flavor, pairing perfectly with the steak. It was nicely seasoned and had a good-sized portion. The empanadas were tasty, with flavorful and plentiful meat. The plantains were extremely delicious. The crema and queso fresco helped bring the whole dish together beautifully. The customer service was friendly, but the food could have been hotter; still, the flavors and seasonings were spot-on.

ORIGIN: Chef/Owner Jeff Taibe initially opened Taproot in…read moresuburban Bethel with wife Steph Sweeney (Owner/Manager), but found a good percent of their innovation-seeking customers travel from Connecticut's shoreline to visit. After they became aware of the availability of a large space restaurant in the city of Norwalk, the restaurant migrated to its present spot. LOCATION: The restaurant is in a lively location, with a movie theater across the street and a convenient parking lot in the back. ATMOSPHERE: The space, which is divided by walls into three dining areas, has a "shabby chic" aesthetic and is lit by tall and wide paned industrial windows. EXPERIENCE: I've visited for brunch and Happy Hour with friends who live or work in Norwalk. Chef Taibe is creative and skillful, and I'm forever impressed by the dishes he serves. As a result, it comes as no surprise that the restaurant was recognized as best in Fairfield County during the Connecticut Restaurant Association's 2023 Crazies award ceremony. (Chef Taibe was finalist for best chef in all of the state the very same year.) The pimento cheese starter topped with Benton ham jam (happy hour/dinner) and smoked brisket hash (brunch) highlight how Chef Jeff Taibe transforms and elevates common menu items into ones that are memorable and crave-inducing. TIPS: Adding to the menu variety, specials are available between 5-9 pm as follows: Tuesdays: Burger plus Beer combo ($18); Wednesdays: Seafood discounts and specials; Thursdays: Smoked Prime Rib ($65); Fridays: Fossil Farm Game specials. It appears that walk ins are always seated in bar dining area, regardless of whether the central dining area appears free. If you rather not sit on a high top bench or stool, a reservation is recommended. The restaurant is also accessible via a back parking lot entrance.

The space immediately stands out with a clean, modern feel that still feels warm, not staged or overly polished. It sets the tone before the food even hits the table. The meal itself followed through. The complimentary bread with oil was simple but done right, soft with a good crust and a clean, flavorful dip. We shared the wild mushroom arancini, and that was the first real standout. Crispy on the outside, rich on the inside, and the sauce was the kind you keep going back to without thinking. It carried the dish. For mains, I went with the wild mushroom pizza, which came out with a well balanced crust and just enough weight from the toppings without feeling heavy. The mushrooms were the focus and they delivered. The honeynut squash ravioli leaned more delicate, slightly sweet, and felt more composed than expected in a good way. Drinks held their own too. The Old Fashioned was clean and steady, while the lychee martini added something lighter and more refreshing to the table. They close the meal with biscotti and limoncello, which already would have been enough, but we added the tiramisu and that was the right call. It rounded everything out without feeling excessive, just a clean finish to a well paced dinner. Service matched the tone of the restaurant, attentive without hovering, and the pacing of the meal felt natural from start to finish. This is the kind of place that feels intentional. Not just good food, but a full experience that actually holds together. Easy to come back to, especially for something worth celebrating.
