Our server was stellar, anticipating our needs and then giving us room to enjoy. Apologies for what might appear as a vague review... Met some friends for a birthday dinner. This place is a hidden gem in plain sight.. it's a cute restaurant. The service was good. They appear to have their regulars. I had the scallop risotto- scallops were cooked to perfection but I wasn't a big fan of the risotto- something was missing. Overall it was a nice evening. I would visit again. read more

Had a very pleasant time here again. Our waiter was able to answer our questions without asking. My sister had a decent birthday. Food was really good. Everyone liked what they got and said it tasted of high quality. I definitely put in a reservation for 8 because when I called the person said they needed to know if it would be 6 or 8 so they could get the table ready for us that day. I then said well definitely 8 because I thought better to have the extra table if our full group of 8 shows up. 7 of us did and hostess checked and said 6 her reservation said 6. I recent met a friend here for dinner. This place is popular. I was glad we had a reservation. We were seated promptly, the interior is upscale casual. The seating was very comfortable. Our server was very professional and friendly. The food was absolutely fabulous. Craft cocktails are available. I enjoyed an excellent baked oyster appetizer that was reminiscent of dishes I've enjoyed at some fine Apalachicola oyster establishments. The fish of the day dish was fabulous. 10 of us visited for my wife's birthday and had a great experience. The food was excellent! Lots of different dishes were ordered - not a miss among them! This won't speak to most purple, but if you like fried chicken livers, their appetizer is perfectly cooked! The atmosphere is snug but pleasant...and the service was nothing short of terrific! Another amazing dinner at our favorite restaurant! We have tried almost everything on the menu and are never disappointed! Once again the lemon drop martini was 10/10! We get it made either whipped cream vodka, they also use lemon cello. I had the crab ravioli this trip and was so happy I did. The pasta was homemade fresh and loaded with crab meat. The cream sauce was light and very flavorful that included shrimp. My husband had the scallops which were great as well. My daughter had a pasta dish that I didn't buy try but she thoroughly enjoyed. I was there today for lunch and I ordered Fried Oyster Salad (Fried Oysters, Poached Farm Egg, Cracklins, Baby Lettuces, Sherry Vinaigrette), although it's pricey, I still wanted to try and added additional fried oysters. I am a little disappointed because I couldn't even taste the oysters, no seasoning and the batter is so thick that the oysters disappeared. Server is nice, the ambience is okay. Such an amazing dinner with incredible food! I ordered the capellini with chicken- it was so flavorful and filling. It had artichokes, a tad bit of pesto, and an amazing plum tomato sauce. My mom ordered the shrimp and grits, and she says they're the best she's ever had. Not pictured were some desserts, chocolate chip bread pudding, blueberry cobbler, and Oreo ricotta cheesecake. I tried a bit of all 3 desserts but they were all too good to pick a favorite. Overall, the desserts and dishes we ordered tonight were a 10/10 and all the servers are so attentive and helpful. I gave this place a five star review a couple of years ago, but it was a solid 3.5 to 4-star visit tonight. My drink: an old fashioned. Delicious and generous. My wife had a muddled strawberry drink called a Nico Smash or something like that. I got tipsy, she didn't. Appetizer: fabulous tomato stack. Really top notch. Main course: we split the fried shrimp. It was over cooked. Tough. Not up to their standard. Disappointing. Sweet potato fries: delicious. Value: meh. $89 for two drinks, an appetizer, and we split a main course. Service: not what it could have been. Atmosphere: doesn't compare well to Chez Fon Fon, but a friendly crowd. Mostly older, but we were there at 5ish and we aren't as young as we used to be. A solid 4-4.5 if the shrimp had been cooked better. Not much to do about the atmosphere, except get better art or more interesting things for the walls. read more

Bistro V has become one of my fav places to enjoy a solo meal. The ambiance is chic and lively, with lots of seating if you come with friends, though I tend to sit at the bar. I tried the ravioli during my first visit and it was amazing! I loved the cream sauce and the lemon flavor throughout. The crab claws were a great appetizer and there was plenty to share if you wanted. I tried some fish during my second visit and it didn't disappoint. It was flaky and flavorful, paired with another yummy sauce. The staff is always very friendly and informative. Multiple people checked in with me each time throughout my meal. While the place has been pretty full each time I went, it was never over crowded or so noisy that I couldn't enjoy my me time. Excited to continue trying more dishes on their menu! read more

The fried oyster salad was incredible. It was a perfect size for dinner and I'd go back again and again just for this dish. The service here was excellent. Ambiance is lovely if a bit cold. I also tried the crab cake entree and was very impressed by the portion size and the amount of crab in the cakes. Wow, what can I say? This was my first time dining at Bistro V. I can't believe the restaurant has been open for over a decade, and I knew nothing about it. The ambiance, service, and food were absolutely amazing. The fried green tomatoes, fried crab claws, and specialty oysters were DELICIOUS. I will return for the appetizers alone. While I wasn't a fan of the fettuccine in its entirety, the Alfredo sauce & crawfish was great. I would have preferred an all seafood fettuccine option instead of the sausage and chicken. We ordered 2-3 alcoholic beverages, unfortunately I don't remember the name, but they were good, slightly inconsistent on the taste, but good. I rate my experience a 9 out of 10 with 1 point being deducted for the fettuccine entree. This will become a new regular for me in the future. read more

I went to this restaurant with a large group. Unfortunately our table was not ready due to another party however I will see they made up our wait time with their delicious entrees. I was able to taste their fried green tomato's, lemon drop martini and braised short rib. I was not a fan of the sour dough bread they bring to the table but that's likely a personal opinion. My first time trying Bistro V and certainly won't be my last! A few weeks ago , I ordered their Friday & Saturday shrimp boil feature for one and farmers market salad. I was really excited to try the salad because from the looks of the pics, it looked amazing & fresh! The superstar of the salad is the fried okra! This was some really fresh okra! Also on the salad were Roma tomatoes, black eye peas , corn on a bed of mixed greens. The salad came with a vinaigrette dressing . Nice salad! There's a option to add a protein (shrimp or chicken) but I didn't since I also ordered the shrimp boil for 1. The shrimp boil for came with potatoes , conecuh sausage, fresh corn on the cob and jumbo shrimp!! This boil was very flavorful! Served in an aluminum pan - a perfect for way to enjoy a shrimp boil! There was some complimentary fresh baked bread with my order as well. I wasn't expecting this , so this was a pleasant surprise! This review isn't 5 stars simply because when I placed my order by phone , I wasn't given any pickup instructions. There weren't any signs posted to point you in the direction for pickup . Thankfully when other patrons came to pick up , they formed a line on the side of the building , which was where the food was being brought out. The gentleman who took my phone order was really cool & the young lady who brought my order to the car was attentive and nice. This was my curbside experience. Oh Yelp, it's Ladies Night! And, Bistro V's you are exactly what the ladies love. Good food, fellowship and Fun! For starters the bread, delicious! Fried green tomatoes, delicious! Um, 4 out of 5 ladies got those with zero complaints. CRAB CLAWS, Amazing! Then the drinks, 2 got Margaritas and 1 got a Cabernet, all were pleased. Then, we got all the meals. One fettuccine, one Snapper chef special, one burger, one oyster meal and I got the chicken piccata, Amazing dishes. Everything was good with no complaints. This is a first! Because, the ladies are meticulous and picky. But, Thanks to Ashley, her wonderful service was second to none. Keep doing what your doing Bistro V's. We tried Bistro V for the first time. Mike got the Braised Short ribs with sautéed spinach in a Demi Glaze with potatoes gratin and a Caesar salad. I had the Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp, sautéed spinach, corn, and crabmeat in a Lemoncello sauce. We got a free dessert for sitting at the High Tops instead of the standard table we had reserved. We opted for strawberry almond cobbler w/vanilla ice cream. We both tasted everything. I liked it all lol the braised ribs were very tender and had a good flavor. My ravioli was very very good. The lemoncello sauce was rich & full of flavor. The cobbler was good but different than the typical southern cobbler I'm used to. I didn't like it as well but still not bad. Mike didn't share my thoughts. He was not that impressed with the braised ribs. He said it's similar to roast but my Mississippi pot roast blows them out of the water. He didn't care for my Ravioli either. He said the shrimp was good and he loved the lemoncello sauce. He said the cobbler was alright but like me he prefers a traditional southern cobbler. I thought my lunch at Bisrto V on Wednesday was excellent. I'm going out on a limb and guessing the"V" stands for Vestavia. I had a hamburger with blue cheese and bacon. It was a big burger that was loaded with flavor. I requested my patty cooked medium, and it came out a bit more "done" than I prefer. Parts of the burger had a bit of a char but I actually liked. The burger was dressed beautifully with a tomato slice, chopped lettuce, and a dill pickle (sliced lengthwise). The crispy bacon and sprinkling of blue cheese were salty and a tasty combination. I chose the onion fries as my side and they were yummy. This a unique prep that is somewhere between French fries and onion rings. Two thumbs up here. Lunch entrees will run you between $11 and $17. A little higher than my typical lunch, but reasonable based on my experience. Nice atmosphere, great service, and quality foodstuff. Our waitress told us that they serve the best fried oysters in town. I love oysters so I've made a mental note to come back in the next month that contains an "r". Bon appetite. read more

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of rustic furniture. I love it when a restaurant successfully blends old looking tables and chairs with new modern finishes; and because of that and the wonderful tasting food, Bistro V has become one of my favorite restaurants in Vestavia Hills. So because my beautiful date is still COVID conscious, we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a wonderful breeze while also enjoying a delicious mimosa. I ordered the grilled shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries; though I wasn't very satisfied with the portion sizes, it was amazing. My date, quite the seafood lover herself, was blown away at amazing taste of her scallops. But again, portion sizes just aren't that great. We had a wonderful time here and if you are in the hills of Vestavia and looking for a semi filling meal, try Bistro V..... I think you'll enjoy it. read more

I try to frequent Bistro V when I can get a crew together for Friday's at lunch time. I love the dining area at Bistro, its clean, bright, and refreshing! The food and staff are consistent also. The best plate on the menu is the open faced roast beef sandwich and if its ever removed I will not be okay!!! It is 11/10, I haven't found anything anywhere else that compares. Bistro V has been in same location for at least 10 years. Located right off Montgomery Hwy sandwiched between the new Chick-fil-A and Snapper Grabber, Bistro V has a great location sharing it's popularity in the Vestavia Hills City Center. As you enter, you are greeted by a beautiful large dining room with an adjacent room which houses their bar. Tables with comfortable chairs are scattered throughout. The decor is simple and contemporary and yes this would be a nice place for a romantic date. The bar has some of the most comfortable chairs I've ever seen at a bar and it only has one mounted large screen tv. Bistro V's elegance is mirrored by their menu. Their dinner menu differs from their lunch in price and variety. Dinner includes such delicacies as fried oyster salad, risotto of the evening, gulf crab ravioli, scallops and filet mignon. Today fellow Yelper Paul C and myself visited for lunch. We were seated right away and our server quickly visited and took our drink order. She soon returned with a small plate of bread. This sour dough bread was still warm and the pieces were nestled on top of a small layer of delicious butter. It was a nice complimentary appetizer as we waited for our meals. The lunch menu included salads and sandwiches such as simple grilled cheese, fried green tomato BLT and Tuscan grilled chicken sandwich. Lunch entrees including daily specials range from grilled shrimp plate, shrimp and grits and crab cakes. We did not have to wait very long before Paul's Bistro Cheeseburger arrived. It looked beautiful with bleu cheese sprinkled on his perfectly cooked medium 8 ounces of ground beef. The other half of his bun was stacked with pickles, tomato, lettuce and bacon. Paul reported that it tasted delicious even though he requested his patty cooked medium but it came out a bit more "done" than he preferred. My Bayou La Batre fried shrimp poboy was similarly delicious. My gambino bread poboy bun was open and sitting on top were about 8 perfectly battered and fried large shrimp. A thin layer of remoulade was on the other half with fresh chopped lettuce and tomatoes. It was outstanding... Yom Yom! For a side, we had a choice of sweet potato fries or fried sweet vidalia onions. Frying thinly sliced and battered onions can be tricky, but these were cooked perfectly because they were not greasy and the sweetness of the onion was delicious. Our server, Sally, was warm, friendly and attentive. She kept our glasses filled and checked on us often. Also mentioned was that they have the best fried oysters in town. I will have to come back and test that boast. If you're looking for quaint romantic place to bring a date, this will fit the bill. Bistro V is an elegant "bistro" with elevated comfort food as well as your Southern classics. Bona appetit! read more
