Someone else's review from 2015, wish I did a keyword search. Not warm, not a tart, and had no chocolate taste. Tarte Chaude Au Chocolat
    Elizabeth B.

Another mediocre, expensive meal at Bistro Lepic. I was hoping it had improved from the last time I went about a year ago, but it has not. The short version is the onion tart had no onion taste, and none visible, and the warm chocolate tart was not warm and had no chocolate taste, unappealing bready texture, and I left it, which is unbelievable since I am a dessert lover. I just did a keyword search of yelp reviews and found one from years ago that said how bad it is, wish I had known. I ordered the onion tart, asked the server which she recommended between the onion soup and the tart and she said the tart was great. It was like a small quiche topped with Gruyère, no onion taste, and I could not see any onions either. The trout amandine was ok, is it generous portion but pretty bland and as others have mentioned, they have a weird way of smearing the mashed potatoes on the plate with swaths of empty space so it looks like half the mashed potatoes are missing. My friend said, you don't skimp on potatoes. They were not hot since they were smeared in a thin layer. They forgot to bring the "petits legumes" side order and had already said they were out of carrots. Another disappointment was the warm chocolate tart. I just looked up photos of chocolate tarts and that's not what you get at bistro Lepic. It was also not warm. I had asked a server if it was rich chocolate, she said yes. Wrong. It's a small bready brownie with no chocolate taste. For $15, plus $2.50 for a tiny scoop of ice cream, add tax and tip and it comes to over $20 for the small chocolate "tarte" alone. A server asked how I liked it, and I said well actually I don't, it has no chocolate taste. He said really, they use real chocolate in it. He didn't offer to replace it with something else or take it off the bill. I love dessert, especially chocolate, and can't remember the last time I left a dessert sitting on the table. We left more than half of it, it just wasn't worth the calories. My two dining companions also tasted it and were not impressed. I want to like this restaurant, but it's always a disappointment.

On our latest trip to Georgetown, we passed by Bistrot Lepic and wanted to give it a try. Since it was restaurant week they didn't show any available reservations online but when we called they said we could get a table as long as we could be done in an hour. I'm definitely glad we called because it was a great restaurant week value. The stair appetizer for me was the escargot. Great flavor! They give you thick fluffy bread at the beginning of the meal and it's great to dip in the sauce. My fave main was the potato cruses salmon. Nice crisp coating and a perfectly cooked inside. We all had the passion fruit chocolate cake to end the day. Great service and good food. If you are near Georgetown and want some French food this place is for you!

The best meal in 2024 so far. It feels like fancy homecoming. The service was fast (well trained). The ambience is appropriate, giving European flair. My duck was a perfect bland and it felt like could eat it every day for a long time. Perfect winter meal. Escargot, for the ones who like it (like sauna, people love it or hate it but a no middle) - it was absolutely perfect and I used all wonderful bread to scoop all garlic/basil sauce where escargot was baked in. I loved it.

After my appointment at drybar for Christmas my bff and I were hungry and stumbled on this little yellow building. Unsure of what was awaiting us, a local walking by said "it's really good" and the rest was history! This place is definitely not typically within my budget... However, really not as bad as I expected. They offer complementary baskets of bread that come out warm with butter and a lovely menu with a very skilled chef. A plethora on wine options reneging from $9 a glass to $400 a bottle. I ordered a glass of rosé and my friend ordered a rum and Coke. My friend ordered the seafood salad- it came with salmon, the fresh catch of the day, (which happened to be trout) and some large butterflied shrimp. The dressing was very simple but lemony and delicious. I ordered the vegetable risotto which came with the perfect amount of Parmesan cheese and a mix of rainbow carrots, Brussels sprouts, and small onions perfectly cooked. The total ended up being $88 which divided by two actually didn't prove to be half as bad as the $$$ made it seem. Overall a very delicious meal prepared expertly! We were stuffed for several hours and amazed at the quality! Certainly worth a visit - they have plenty of heat lamps and a sidewalk side outdoor dining set up. Service was lovely- great date night idea or somewhere to treat yourself after an appointment!

We had an amazing dinner here! We had the cheese platter to start, and I tried the steak frites. The food was incredible and tasted so fresh. I would highly recommend the floating island for dessert.

Country French cuisine - loved the smell of food being cooked with butter from the kitchen. That heavy handed butter and lard usage is, in my opinion, what defines country French from modern French. I had pied de cochon which is pig feet. It was described as crusty but not because of the crispy skin (it had none) but because it was breaded and formed into a party. Served with a strong and overpowering onion mustard sauce, I wish the sauce was paired with the accompanying salad and not the feet. The feet itself tasted alright. Classic French and yet unrefined because the breading for the crust wasn't anything notable. The flat iron steak was small portioned during lunch but came glistening in a red wine sauce and it was delicious despite it being cooked a bit more than the requested medium rare. It came accompanied with fried eggs which were good eggs. Overall I liked this place but felt the prices should be lower and the kind of food served warrants this place to be a bit more dressed down casual than it portrays itself to be. I'm not sure if I would be back solely for the food with the many French places to choose from even though this one is one of the city's institutions having been open for more than 20 years. However I've heard that they had jazz nights upstairs and they do have specials now and then so I'll be keeping an eye out and possibly can be enticed to return soon.

I really enjoyed this place for a great weekday lunch option. I'd be craving French food and found this place through some reviews. A lot of folks mentioned this place as an delightful spot. It's definitely small, but I think it adds to the charm. We sat inside, although there is outdoor seating, but I believe they might have two floors? We sat downstairs in the dining room where the bar was located. The food was fantastic and we took advantage of the pre fixe lunch menu options. Everything was delicious. I got the escargot and vegetarian risotto. The escargot was delicious and exactly what I was looking for! It came out piping hot and loaded with garlic. Would definitely come back here again!

~ gluten-free review ~ Headed over to Georgetown for a dinner this evening and was blown away by Bistrot Lepic! They were so helpful in both wine selection and food selection for the evening. The scallops were a special appetizer however it is typically on the menu year round. The food was incredible, and the restaurant itself was very calm and perfect for a date night or catch up with a good friend. I will be trying to go again on a night when the Jazz band is playing!

Came here for dinner with my parents. Great French Cuisine. They have nice outdoor seating beside the sidewalk. There was live music of some sort on the second floor. The duck confit was great, crispy skin with most of the fat rendered away. The fries were similarly delicious.

Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried. This is a restaurant that treats every table like it matters. We will absolutely be back.

The Cheeseburger Americain was a standard 3.5 out of 5 American cheeseburger that beats the average suburban chain restaurant burger with its double patty and sesame bun, but isn't gonna knock your socks off like a steakhouse burger. The poutine kept my socks on too (I was particularly excited about the poutine and ended up a tad underwhelmed). The biggest disappointment was the mozzarella sticks, which...... All interesting concepts, but most missed the mark. the Polar Express was a little too sweet, I forgot what the name of the riff on an old fashioned or Manhattan I had but that was okay, and the Fleur de Citron tasted like when you ask for a Sprite and they ask, "Is Sierra Mist (now Starry) okay?" and you reply, "yeah that's fine," but then what you get is actually a flat 7-Up. Skip to the Assessment/Plan if you don't want to read this novella retelling of our evening. Service - Relatively early for the dinner service, we were the largest and one of only a few tables in the restaurant. I counted 3 other tables seated (small parties of less than 4 each) and a few patrons at the bar. It took about 20 minutes before we first got our menus and the guy who handed them to us didn't say a word just dropped them off. Then it took another 20 minutes before he came back to get our drink orders, and 1) seemed like he was having a bad day, which... fine, but 2) was rolling his eyes when some of us were a little between some options and wanted a recommendation, which... alright my guy let's chill. We weren't talking loud, we weren't drinking before and being obnoxious, we just wanted to ask about what some of the drinks were like on a very cool menu of cocktails we haven't tried anywhere else. Upon returning with our drinks, he accidentally spilled a not insignificant amount on my friend sitting across from me, and while we reacted and started handing him extra napkins, he just glanced at him, finished giving out the drinks, and walked away. No "oops", "my bad", "oh let me get you some paper towels", nothing. So at this point, we're all staring at each other like "Did we do something? Do we smell?" Whatever, friend's birthday, we've been talking about this cabin weekend for several years and it's finally happening, let's just vibe. Now another 20 minutes went by and we were getting antsy because we wanted to order our food but it looked like there wasn't a lot of staff, and we didn't want to upset anyone by hurrying them. Another man came over who we thought was going to take our orders. Nope. He starts picking up our menus so I say, "Oh, hey we haven't ordered yet." To which he replies, "OK, but I need the menus." Alright cool, yeah, that makes sense if he needed them for other tables and can leave us with a few to share. Nope. He just took them and placed them back at the host stand. Awkward stares across the table again. Whatever, we had enough, I guess. Tick tock, tick tock. A third guy came over, and when he smiled and asked, "Hi are you all ready to order?" I was like "Oh finally a human being!" Food took another 20-ish minutes while we nursed our drinks and really had no interest in ordering another round (not that anyone asked us). We ate. We chatted. We had an okay time. We were super ready to get out of there. Oh right, the mozz sticks. Le Mont'zarella sticks. They had one order left of four sticks for $18. We were one of the first diners. You can imagine after all the above, that's just a major facepalm emoji. Assessment/Plan: Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for Le Mont Royal to improve their service, now and at the hour of ASAP, because the place has so much potential, and maybe it was just an off night, or the staff just finished arguing with each other in the back so they took it out on us, but dearly beloved Lord it was like we offended nine generations of their ancestry from the moment we walked in. With "a 22% service charge has been added for your convenience," I thought we were getting Punk'd. The always-changing French-Canadian menu is a cool and unique concept, but it's a lot of bark with very little bite. It didn't make the disappointing service worth it. Once seated, we decided to order some starters to share: +the Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese Ball - with honey and red wine caramelized onions +Chicken Liver Mousse - with white wine gelee, apricot, pickled veggies, and an onion marmalade +Baked Camembert de Normandie - with confit garlic, thyme, and honey +and, an Onion Soup for the hubs - prepared with beef broth, croutons, and Gruyere For our entrees, I went for the Steak-Frites, which came with a hanger steak and shallot sauce; you can sub the usual fries with truffle fries, which I recommend! My counterparts enjoyed their Long Island Duck Breakfast (with seared asparagus, cumin carrot puree, cippolini onions, and port sauce), the Maryland Rockfish (with artichoke barigoule, carrots, brasied fennel, and noilly prat sauce), and the Local Roasted Chicken (with English peas, carrots, baby potatoes, and truffle jus). If you want to sop up your sauce with bread, don't forget to order the breadbasket! Staff were friendly and checked-in on our party throughout our dining experience; the place is cozy and vibrant, and seems to be pretty popular. I'd be curious to try their HH on the next visit! +French bistro eats +shareables +friendly staff & service
