Everything was awesome. Service, food, company, the fact that the server never rushed us into anything realizing we are a group of friends catching up. Sure, we ordered expensive things including bottle of bubbly for $149, but we also enjoyed our time and felt take care of all in the right time. We know this place and always had good experience, so it is awesome to know some things remain perfect as they are. And we got there at 16:00 so quieter time to give us more time to talk even loud without (I hope) disturbing other patrons. Definitely will be dining there again. read more

Bistrot du Coin is a fantastic French restaurant and easily one of my favorite French dining experiences in DC. The food is full of flavor and has that comforting, authentic bistro feel. We ordered a huge spread including the escargot, mussels, mushrooms, salmon, ravioli, roast chicken, and rib eye. Every single dish was fantastic, but the escargot and mussels were particular standouts. Everything tasted fresh, beautifully prepared, and packed with lovely French flavors. We paired the meal with Chimay beer and red wine, both of which worked beautifully with the dishes. Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient, with everything arriving fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere is what you'd hope for from a traditional French bistro--cozy, lively, and authentic. After trying several French restaurants in DC, this one stood out for me. This is just such a lively restaurant on all fronts. The high ceilings and knickknacks they have collected over the years gives this historic home charm that you would like to see in a cuisine that has existed for quite some times. Dispelling the myth that French cuisine is pretentious, we felt like we were in a home, and that we would be fed full to the brim. Came in while it was packed late into the night. We were sat immediately and had a wonderful time. Our waitresses were patient and had great recommendations for our first time trying French food. They seem incredibly experienced and added comfort in the way they spoke to their customers and ran their tables. We were even greeted by the owner who was great and cheery to each table he visited. The one night we went, it was incredibly packed with people having intimate, lighthearted, and laughter-filled gatherings, tables with multiple rounds of wine, everyone sharing their fries, and so he should feel proud of this place. Touches like this made it as though we were dining in someone's house. And I love that they start you off generously with bread and butter. Its a type of french loaf that is nice and fluffy, and I'd recommend setting some on the side if you're ordering a brothy dish. We ordered Moules Marinières, which came in a delightfully large cauldron of juicy plump clean muscles swimming in an herbaceous-garlicky white wine sauce. Unassumable from the simplicity of ingredients they threw together, but incredibly complex in flavor. This is one of the few times I actually tasted bay leaf, and amongst the fewer times I found the use of rosemary not be so overpowering. The mussel liquor at the bottom was perfect when soaked up in bread. What an incredible dish. We also tried a classic, Le Steak Maison, which was also distinctively flavorful. Our steak had a perfect cook at medium rare, and was uniquely seasoned with some sort of blend of herbes de provence. The fries were pretty standard and substantial, but paired with the Béarnaise sauce, it was such a tangy play of richness and acidity. Again really simple ingredients just executed so well. Great job, looking forward to coming again to try more on this large menu. read more

4.5 stars. I can't believe this place is in urban DC. It's spacious working class farmer French, not a snooty cafe. Only seen its like in the disappearing old Basque hotel food halls of the far West. Gloriously boisterous and airy under high ceilings on a late summer weeknight. Super cool wine list. Baskets of warm French bread properly brought unbidden. Buy a liter or 1/2 liter of Rhone, or go for more serious bottles. Old school wax checkered table cloths and a hustling staff. A gorgeous mushroom sauce to pour on filet steak and mashed potatoes. The food was good but the service was a little spotty and the upcharges were INSANE. We had a group so I understand that gratuity is imposed. However, they added: -5% surcharge on subtotal -20% tip on subtotal -Additional tax on the tip -tax on the rest of it We essentially paid almost 30% in fees (not including tax) , which is insane even in the current restaurant climate. This is deceptive and unfair. Just raises prices, don't hide all the fees until the end that way. Also, one drink came out with a hair in it. It WAS replaced at least. read more

I've been here twice now for birthday dinners and both times have been a hit. The menu has plenty of options when it comes to French food and has a little something for everyone. Our group of 10 leaned heavy on the mussels for their entrees and everyone was happy. I'd that's not your thing, I had the ravioli and thought it was hearty and delicious for dinner. The service was speedy and attentive given our group size. We also loved the wine selections which offered something for everyone at our table who preferred reds and rosés. Despite talk of improvement, the experience still falls short of its former prime. There are signs of recovery in the kitchen. The French onion soup and escargots are competently prepared, while the beef bourguignon remains tender and the seafood ravioli satisfying in texture. Yet every dish shares the same flaw--an overly heavy hand with salt that dulls nuance and overwhelms otherwise solid execution. Service is warm but strained. Staff are friendly and clearly trying, but short-handed conditions lead to long waits--for water refills, attention, and even the bill. In the end, taste is improving, but not enough. Great for authentic French food! It does not look like a fancy French restaurant every dish on their menu is authentic. I would recommend the escargot, it was so buttery and garlicy, it was fantastic with the table bread they give you. The beef bourguignon was fantastic, you could still taste a little bit of the wine but it wasn't overpowering, it was rich and warm and perfect for fall. Bistrot du Coin is a good date night spot or place to get a good meal with friends and chat. I didn't feel rushed to leave once we were done eating and just flagged down the waiter for the check when we were ready. Service got our food out and then let us enjoy our dinner without interruption. It does get a little loud when it's packed and would recommend getting a reservation! read more

This spot was highly recommended to me by some of my favorite foodie friends. I can't even begin to describe the vibe of this place, but all you need to know is the food is good. Its decor is a bit tacky and loud in a very charming way that somehow works. It's an unassuming French spot with lots of seating and a long moules menu. The people who work here are down to earth and kind. I ordered a glass of beaujolais and the classique marinieres mussels. The mussels were very tasty and I loved the broth it came in. I used the delicious bread they had to soak up all the goodness when I was done devouring my mussels. My fiancé adored his Peking duck confit special and also devoured his plate. We went here last week & did not have a good experience. The biggest problem was the noise level. There were 4 of us at the table & had to strain to hear each other. And we often still weren't able to communicate. I don't know if the problem was the tables being too close together or the acoustics or whatever, but it's a problem that needs to be fixed. I also was unimpressed with the food. We shared an order of escargot, I had the coq au vin & my husband had the steak frites. None of them was memorable. The coq au vin was particularly bad. Came here for a Saturday lunch with a friend and it was lovely! Cute interior, lots of French decor and classic checkered tablecloths. I was craving soup so I tried the french onion. Super savory, lots of onions and toasty cheese and bread! We shared the white wine mussels and grilled chicken with ratatouille. The chicken was solid, nothing special but the mussels were great! We took a long time to decide what to order and the service after was fairly slow. We didn't mind because we had plenty of time with our courses but I wouldn't come here if I'm trying to eat quickly. My mom and I had such a lovely dinner at this quaint little neighborhood French restaurant. We shared a bottle of wine that was really good, and the whole experience felt cozy and welcoming. I ordered the steak frites -- not something I normally go for since I'm not usually a filet fan -- but it was surprisingly delicious. The béarnaise sauce was rich and flavorful and really brought the dish together. My mom had the beef bourguignon over mashed potatoes instead of noodles, and we'd definitely recommend it -- total comfort food. We also shared the escargot, which was absolutely amazing. This place is a fantastic French spot, and a definite staple in the neighborhood. My dad has been taking me here for perhaps 25 years. I love that a lot of the staff are recognizable, and remember us. I always get the mussels, and snails on occasion. But they have great steak, classic French salads, and beautiful pasta. We also tend to get a bottle of wine, as we can walk here It's gotten a bit more pricey since Covid, but I recommend it to everyone, and also bring out of town guests. I have one friend who is very picky, but he still gets the French fries or a hot chocolate :) read more

Fantastic food. Went for a holiday work dinner. There were three of us and two of us had the ribeye and frites; DELICIOUS. And the other colleague had the salmon. We all shared the charcuterie (meats) appetizer and it was also very good; especially the Spanish chorizo. The bread that they keep supplying to the table is delicious, and crusty! Charcuterie board also has some greens on it with a DELICIOUS dressing. They should sell it! Drinks: pricey and I don't think the aperol spritz was made with champagne or prosecco; tasted more like sparkling wine as the base. The flan had a nice crust to it from the blowtorch and tasted good; but was cold. It was a crazy busy night around the holidays--tons of people there; I am sure they have to keep it moving and prepare the flan ahead (freezer or fridge!) Service was delightful! Our table of four ladies celebrating a bachelorette included 2 from Los Angeles, 1 from Washington State and a local (the bride to be). One vegetarian. We especially enjoyed the mussels and escargot &- endless bread dipping. Save some room for out of this world desserts - I had the chocolate mousse and had a savory moment of exultation. It was a Saturday night, it was packed, on the louder side making the venue feel very alive. I saw a cross section of folks, old and young alike. Perfect for homey, rustic feeling french food! I came here for dinner on NYE and would definitely come back. Firstly, I loved that you could choose between their NYE dinner menu or their regular menu for dinner as many other restaurants of that caliber had just set menus that evening. The service was excellent and although it was busy, we never felt like we waited too long. We got the escargot, coq au vin, and the mussels marinières and each dish was excellent. The food was so incredibly flavorful and authentically french. The ambiance of the restaurant was a little more rustic, with tables close together and a fairly big room, but it worked for the overall vibe. OK so this is an easy review for me to write! I love Bistrot Du Coin. The food is great, the service is great, the atmosphere - which I understand is trying to replicate a bistro in France - is total Euro-trash. Please turn on the air conditioning! It's hot enough in Washington DC to need the a/c right now. Not miserable like it will be in August but hot enough! Please help us to feel comfortable while we are dining out. I think this is the exact reason that the Pilgrims left Europe - for air conditioning! Use it! Tonight I had French Onion Soup. It is probably the best bowl of French Onion Soup ever! So rich (almost creamy), so cheesy, so onion-y! Love it! And the mussels were out of this world great too. We actually had 2 different kinds of mussels - the kind with the chorizo and the Roquefort (which were the surprise hit of the evening). Like all the other times I have eaten at Bistrot Du Coin, the food was freakin fantastic! The tables are a bit too close, the dining room is a bit dingy and cluttered. Again, I get it - trying to replicate a real bistro in France. But can't you do that AND make it better??? I think you should. However, let me be very clear, the dingy atmosphere and the lack of air conditioning will NOT - repeat - will NOT stop me from coming back to Bistrot Du Coin. Because, bottom line, the food is so damn good! Period, Full Stop! The service too is very very good and professional (that's how you know that you're NOT actually in France). From the waitress to the service people - they all delivered great service the entire time! I highly recommend this place for a meal, any meal, but especially if the meal starts with French Onion Soup and ends with mussels!!! read more

If you're looking for a French restaurant in DC that's fun, friendly and not overly expensive, this is the one to visit. I went here a few months ago and was pleased with both the food and the service. I had a mussels dish for an appetizer. The portion size was generous, and the mussels were fresh and deliciously-prepared. For my entree I had the steak maison (steak, fries, bearnaise sauce), which was also very tasty and quite filling (I probably didn't need to get an appetizer, the entree was enough on its own). The service and atmosphere set this place apart from a lot of other restaurants in DC. There's nothing subtle about the decor here--it is unabashedly reminiscent of a busy bistro in downtown Paris. If you're used to (and perhaps a little tired of) the subdued character of many DC restaurants, you won't find anything of the sort here. The waitstaff, management and other workers seem to enjoy interacting with one another, they're attentive to the customers, and they clearly care a lot about their work and about the restaurant. I ate here pretty close to closing time, so I tried to eat my food pretty quickly. Near the end of my meal, the manager (or maybe the owner, I have no clue) noticed that I was trying to eat quickly before closing time, and he seemed to feel a little bad about it, so he brought me a chocolate mousse dessert free of charge. It was delicious! I've never experienced that kind of hospitality at a DC restaurant before. Anyway, the food's great, the waitstaff is attentive, the environment is fun, and everything about the experience is authentically French. What more could you ask for? read more

There was an Asian family here. I wanted to try the French onion soup. I have had it on a cruise. I wanted ravioli with salmon..smaller size. I also sat with myself because you can't get me somebody to sit with...that I want to sit with...today or tomorrow..or next year...The picture of the president visiting this spot is funny and what else can you say... When you walk into Bisrot Du Coin, it has a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. You're greeted with smiles. My friend and I were a walk-in during a busy time, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive. When looking at the menu, the prices of the appetizers and the drinks weren't so bad. As far as the entrees went though, it felt overpriced considering how mediocre the food was when we got it. My friend and I both got French onion soup. We both thought it was great!! I absolutely loved the ratio of onions to cheese and couldn't stop eating it! It was way better than the entrees! I got the Coq au vin and I believe my friend got the duck confit. Both my chicken and my friend's duck were really dry!! The outsides of the chicken that were cooked in the sauce and everything tasted very good, but then the insides were very dry. I'm pretty sure chicken is supposed to be tender inside and out. I tried my best to eat it, but it wasn't good at all. The dessert I believe was peach melba and it was delicious!! Amazing French food in a beautiful restaurant. This place feels authentic, warm, welcoming, and the right kind of busy. The service is always fantastic and I eat here whenever I'm in the city. Really enjoyed this place. There were so many things I wanted to try on this menu; it all looked so good! I ended up going with the Mussels and Steak Maison - both of which were good. The steak was OK to me, I should have gotten one of the other mains, but it was all good nonetheless. Felt like an authentic French place. Though it was very warm in here -- and eating seafood when it's warm and stuffy didn't sit right - I just ate it faster ;-) Overall, wonderful! read more

An update to my previous review: I visited this place yesterday again. The same great and timely service, the same nice ambiance, and the same scrumptious food as I described in my previous reviews. We ordered French onion soup, mussels, escargot, tartar steak, and hanger steak. All very tasty. The steak was a little bit too salty. But still delicious. We paid our meal with glasses of French wine. Highly recommend. How to have a French restaurant experience without one or two glasses of wine?
