We went here because of the "great" reviews. The staff was friendly - but that's about where our good experience ended. We got there around 5:30pm. They weren't overly busy, and seemed to have ample staffing for it being so slow. We ordered our food and waiting 35 mins for the Cauliflower appetizer and 2 burgers. The food was mediocre at best - the "orange dipping sauce" was not good at all, and would have been better left off or as a DIP instead of coated on them. The burgers were just burgers and fries. Nothing special - just a basic burger and okay fries, definitely NOT worth that kind of wait. While waiting for our food we saw 2 other tables that came in and ordered after us get their multiple plates of food. While eating our food we saw people order and get their food within 5 minutes. At the end they apologized that they'd "forgotten" us but didn't make any form of restitution or give us an incentive to go back. Horrible place, and such a disappointment after all the raving reviews. read more

Have been here a couple times and enjoyed the service and the food. The shrimp nachos, crab bites and kimchi fries were all great. Noodle dishes weren't quite what we expected and the taste was kinda off. But the small plates have all been excellent so far. Agree with other reviewers that adding a happy hour menu with more affordable prices would be good for business and attract more of the local college crowd. read more

Almost damn perfect. Went for lunch. Lovely interior, nice wait person, great menu. Varied, interesting, lots of things to eat. I had the crab cake bites which were terrific, the seared tuna which was amazing, fresh and melted in my mouth, and the cauliflower which also was spot on. For dessert I shared the tiramisu and the lava cake--both stellar. I would give this place 5 stars except for the one thing that continues to bug me about practically every restaurant I eat in these dates--the music. Too loud, and totally wrong for this place. Some mellow jazz or Asian Fusion would work as background. Instead it was some kind of Euro-Pop with that back beat that makes it impossible to think or talk. Maybe younger folks think it's hip, but I'm there for the food and to visit with my friend, not be annoyed by music. I find so often the music is really for the help and doesn't take into consideration the actual people eating there. Please change your music and turn it down. Your food is impeccable. read more

My sister and I each had a to-go order of the Thai Coconut Risotto and honestly it was hands down one of the best dishes I have ever had. I attend culinary school and I cannot wait to tell all my friends and instructors about it, because they defiantly need to check them out! We also ordered a small side of sweet potato fries and they were some of the best ones I have had with this amazing aioli with a tiny bite to it. I will defiantly be returning! read more

It was a chilly rainy day when we stopped for a very late lunch at the Bite. My 95 yr old Dad went for the Calamari, and I liked the sounds of the hot soup. I did not order the hot spicier version, but was surprised that it did have hot pepper in it. I am something of a lightweight when it comes to hot pepper, so before long my face was hot and my temples feeling like they were breaking a sweat. I like celery in soup, but this was a LOT more celery than I've used or experienced in a recipe. The soup was tasty, and if you like your soup to warm you inside and out, and like a lot of celery, then this is a tasty choice. My Dad had the Strawberry Lemonade, tasty and beautiful presentation. I would come here again if I"m in Forest Grove, but think Ill leave the soup to those who can handle the heat. read more

Wow. Just wow. I want to give it a 1 star rating just to keep people out of there so I can have the run of the place with my family, but that wouldn't be fair to these guys. They've done a great thing. Great food, great service, great venue for sitting down with the wife and kids or even going out for date night. Really hoping they open up in Hillsboro but I don't mind the drive as the payoff is very rewarding. You should check it out if you're in the area. Period. read more

So great, who knew that Forest Grove had restaurants like this? Great service, fun atmosphere, young but not trying hard. Food that you find at a quality upscale pretentious Pearl District eatery but none of the sass. The food was really good, the flavors of the ingredients were all elevated. Nothing was overpowered with sauces or dips, or heavy (over) seasoning. Clean tastes, and perfectly sized portions. I love small plates and this restaurant delivered, in spades. Get a little bit of everything, but whatever you do, don't pass up the crab cakes... OH MY GOSH I wish I could have those on the daily. It's SO easy to screw up crab cakes, and so many restaurants do. Bites nails it with their cakes, I love your cakes bites! Cake cake cake cake cake cake cake.... Try them and you'll see what I mean. So....I just wrote a review while waiting for my third small plate and while I still recommend this place don't do the nachos. Shrimp tempura nachos sounded interesting and they weren't. They were placed in the oven and the slight tempura turned to mush. The cheese turned to bar room coagulated cheese heated on top of chips. Very disappointed to finish the night - but - other selections still looked great. Still try this place. read more

My friend and I were in Forest Grove and looking for a place to have lunch and happened to notice Bites. We decided to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered two appetizers - tuna tartare and stuffed jalapenos. Both were delicious, and reasonably-sized portions for appies. We also each ordered a main dish. She had the tofu salad and I had the tonkatsu. The tofu had been lightly floured and sauteed, not at all greasy, on a bed of greens with a tasty dressing. The tonkatsu had a generous size piece of pork and [perfectly cooked noodles (and other stuff) My only complaint about the soup was that it was a bit starchy, as though the flour or cornstarch, or something, had been added too late. Otherwise, it was tasty and satisfying. My only other (also small) complaint was that they did not have decaf coffee. With such excellent decaf these days, it would be simple to have a one-cup filter for those of us who do prefer decaf. We ended up going to a nearby coffee shop instead of staying for coffee and desert. Owners take note! The wait staff was extremely nice, on the ball, quick service, comfy seating. We started early-ish - 11:30 but by the time we were finished,the place was almost full. Obviously others have discovered this bright spot in FG. Also, I should mention that we saw something fabulous looking go by our table and when we asked, learned it was one of the specials that day. Next time we will surely check out the specials. and BTW, my tonkatsu was served with the chopsticks laying across the bowl, not stuck in the noodles... read more

This is my first time on yelp.. I had to make a comment about this. I had the lemongrass pork the other day, and honestly it smelt very bad. I did not even eat all of it because of that, was going to order something different but decided to leave and go to McDonalds.. at least they have stuff that will be filling, cheap, and not smell bad. There is not much to this place if you asked me... I just hope their chicken does not smell bad as well (ecoli) or any other products... not to mention they do not really serve a good portion of rice.. I had friends come back and tell me it was too little, then when I went it was basically the whole bowl was rice. I probably will never go back, but do not let me stop you. read more

My husband and I went to Bites for lunch on Saturday and not only was the food fantastic, so was the service. It was around 2pm and the restaurant was pretty busy. Jake was the hostess, waiter, busser and was rockin' the house. He was on top of EVERYTHING! He was friendly, welcoming and even made time to strike up some friendly chatter, even though he was the only one running the restaurant side. When I ordered my 2nd glass of pinot grigio, Jake had noticed I had put a few ice cubes in my 1st glass and asked if he could put a few in my 2nd for me.... I was amazed and delighted that he saw this little detail! Not only did Jake kill-it, but his chief James was rockin' the kitchen. Food came out beautifully presented, was hot and delicious!! Those two deserve some extra kudos and recognition for single handedly running the show on a busy Saturday afternoon. We've been there before and will continue coming back with such great service and great food, this one is a top spot on our list. read more

We stopped in for dinner. We ordered the udon carbonara and spaghetti naporitan. Both were delicious. The service was prompt and friendly.

High hopes for the new place in town, fantastically underwhelmed. Let's begin light and easy - cool environment, great location, friendly servers. We were seated quickly, and started the meal off with the Seoul Dumplings and a couple "signature cocktails." The Dumplings were flat in flavor and a bit mealy, so, not a great start. She got the Lemongrass Press, which she enjoyed just fine but it didn't really shine as a "signature." I ordered a Manhattan, which I ended up sending back - if you are going to tout something as a "signature," invest in it. I understand the profit margin is important, but this was bad - low quality ingredients lead to low quality finished product, always. The food - she ordered the Spicy Pork, which came out with remarkably little spice, and I will be the first to admit I don't have the highest spice tolerance. The kim chi in the dish was the best (and spiciest) thing about it. The pork was bland and chewy. The rice overcooked and mushy. The dish as a whole was a flop. I got the Kalbi Burger, and shelled out the extra $1 to sub steamed veggies in for the fries. The burger actually had decent flavor, with a pleasantly spicy kick coming from the sauce on the bun, and they cooked it to the medium rare I asked for. The good ends there. The fried onion topping was cold and stale, which presented a texture challenge, especially considering the $11 price tag. Call me optimistic, but I expected the steamed veggies I was being charged extra for in an Asian-Fusion restaurant to be...something. What I got was a bowl of overly-steamed broccoli and carrots with a vague remnant of flavor and no seasoning. Seriously, probably would have been better off with a steamer bag from grocery store freezer aisle. Overall, really unimpressed by the food and the drinks which leaves little else to draw someone to a restaurant. May consider returning next year, after they have had a chance to establish themselves and work out the kinks. read more

First of all, some of the food was cold when it got brought out to us. It wasn't all cooked very good. The fries were a little soggy, and to be frank, they tasted like how horse manure smells. The drinks were way overpriced and I probably could've got a cheaper one at the airport. The jalapeno things are good though. Anyhow, I was pretty disappointed with my visit there. read more

We wanted to like this place. The location itself is very nice, but the food was a misfire from the start. The Ramen seemed as though it was made by someone with no idea what real ramen is. The broth was muddy and overwhelmingly salty. The noodles themselves were below what I could have microwaved at home. Hugely disappointed. read more

Bites in Forest Grove Oregon has really great food, but the service is terrible!!!!!!!!! When we got there it took about 15 mins to get a drink, and the wine glasses are under poured. Then it took us about 45 mins to get our appetizers. After that they brought me my entree, which was labeled as gluten free but came with two slices of bread on it. It took about 10-15 minutes for me to get silverware, and about 25 mins later they brought my boyfriend his entree. Mine was obviously cold at that point. At the end of the meal the owner came over and asked us how it was. We were honest. His response was saying that obviously he should shut his doors after spending $90k to get the place going. He was extremely rude to us. It's very unfortunate because the food was good. read more

The Kalbi burger didn't taste like Kalbi at all. It taste like a regular plain burger. Kalbi donbori had more rice then actual Kalbi meat. The calamari portion was too small for the price. There were only about 8-10 pieces of calamari. read more

I was passing through Forest Grove with my father and decided to stop by Bites. It had an amazing atmosphere. The greeter/server/bartender, Keola, was absolutely amazing and helpful, he was super nice and friendly and was on top of everything. He seemed to be the only server/bartender working at the time but did a great job. The food was excellent and tasted great. It had great portions. Stopped in without reservations on a cold, rainy night. It was the first time for everyone and we were all very happy with our experience. We started off with the clams in butter sauce and the Seoul dumplings. The clams were amazing and we all agreed that the broth they came in was good enough to be a stand alone soup base. We didn't leave a drop of it, slurping it up with our clam shells. The dumplings were good but not exceptional. We had three main dinners with Spaghetti Napoli itan (red sauce), Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen soup and the nights special of Salmon Fish and Chips. All three were perfect! The soup was another highlight of the night. Perfectly seasoned and so yummy and fresh tasting. The Salmon was baked not fried. So it was not the least bit greasy but still light and crispy. We skipped dessert but I am sure whatever they had to offer would be of high quality. We left feeling extremely satisfied but not overly full. Overall it was a fresh meal, seasoned to perfection with lots of local wines, beer and sake available. The menu is also very well priced. I did not see anything for over $15 - $18 on the menu. Not to many years ago forest grove had nothing...now there are 2 new breweries...and a handful of restaurants to choose from...today I decided to try this one...had known about for awhile but had yet to step inside...upon entering the decor is modern sophisticated country charm...clean and comfortable...quickly seated...place is mildly busy...kitchen is open and you can see into it looks clean and active...menu is an interesting mash up of Asian fusion dishes..order dynamite nachos with shrimp...tempura avocado...and ahi tuna with salad...and mojito...and veggie pot stickers...all comes out in good timing...nachos are overcooked and could have been a good dish but was kind of ruined...avocado tempura is good and well executed light tempura batter is cooked but avocado is still fresh tasting and not greasy...pot stickers are solid...ahi is the best dish of all and doesn't disappoint...service was good but overall could have benefited by having an extra person to tend bar and run the checks...overall this was a good experience. read more
