My chum and I stopped by here for a post-hike meal after summiting nearby Scarface Mountain. She had been here before; I wouldn't classify this as a recommendation per se, but it was mentioned as a perfectly fine option based on one prior visit, and I was intrigued by the edgy name and menu. We came in around 2ish, and the place was pretty empty beyond a small handful of customers. We decided to go with a high-top table on the side of the room opposite the bar and made ourselves comfortable. I wasn't able to locate a drink menu on the website (certainly wouldn't hurt to add that to the three or four menu sections featured there already; otherwise it's a pretty snazzy site) so I could be off on the name, but I decided to get a cocktail that I think was called a bourbon or cranberry smash. It definitely had my spirit animal (bourbon) included, and some kind of fruity, sweet addition to complement same. I'm very pro enhancing the sweetness of bourbon. This was the highlight of our experience here by far, and I ordered a second one to enhance the rosy hue on my cheeks. Since many calories needed to be replenished, I opted for the Pulled Pork Plate ($23), which featured pulled pork, bbq sauce, a jalapeno-cheddar corn cake and two sides. I went with the fries and mac and cheese for my aforementioned sides; admittedly, the fries just weren't my jam - I'm more into crispy, thicker fries, so I let my chum munch on those. That's not a knock on the establishment though, just personal preference. The mac and cheese was okay - nothing mind-blowing, but it did the job. The pulled pork was also average. The biggest issue for me was that it looked and tasted like it had been pre-made. It came out super fast (which is usually a positive), but it was obviously because it wasn't made to order. It just didn't taste very fresh, which brought down the whole dish. It was hard to distinguish the corn cake because it was literally under all of the pork/BBQ, but I did think it added some good texture to the proceedings. My chum got a poke bowl and requested tofu instead of fish on the top. When the waiter brought the poke bowl out, it prominently featured, you guessed it, fish. He was apologetic and rectified the problem, but it was literally the only special request she made and based on his reaction, it just wasn't written down and/or remembered when the order was initially taken. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. The price point was pretty competitive, though I think the prices in this region overall are pretty amazing (likely PTSD from routinely making purchases in the NYC metro area), and everyone was very personable and welcoming. I'd have no issue returning but I'd probably stick with the drinks. read more

Jim snd John have expanded to the back room, added a deck with a bar out back and above snd see now adding a separate bar on top but in front. The staff is nice and capable. Me and my family were blown away at how good the food was I got and Buffalo flatbread that I highly recommend. Wow what a slam dunk of a find in Saranac Lake! Atmosphere was fun and enjoyable on a Friday night and service was excellent. Drinks were strong and food was amazing! We had the lamb kofta to start; very delicious! Dinner was the butter burger a perfect bbq burger with fresh jalapeño abs fried onions so tasty. My girlfriends Hawaiian burger was great too. Wife and I ordered takeout and it was just bad, tasteless food. The descriptions sound great, but We got a veggie pad Thai, chicken pad Thai and the poutine. Pad Thai: it's like they fried noodles, threw some kimchi on there, and tossed in a grilled unflavored chicken breast. The veggie was the same thing, minus the chicken obviously. Everything was just terribly bland. Poutine: it tasted nothing like one. Now I get it, it's veggie but when it came to us it looked nothing like the pictures seen. All in, ~$60 including tax and tip. Highway robbery for what this was. I'd really like a refund for this. I know 1 star reviews hurt, but man this experience deserved it. read more

We stopped in for a quick drink before dinner and the place was mostly full. Sat at the bar and chatted with the very busy bartender. Got a local draught, and a very generous pour of Tullamore Dew. Knew we had to return after looking at the food menu. Two days later, we came in for lunch. Great blue cheese burger (fries were greasy though), and a falafel wrap, with a Guinness made for a filling bite. This seems to be local spot. Everyone from truckers to businessmen. After a 9 hours of hiking we stopped for a relaxing dinner and some drinks. Bitters & Bones looked to fit that bill. The place was packed. Dining was available indoors and out. The outdoor option was full so we ate indoors. Two of the 4 meals were good, the others were meh. The good: the Tai maple wings. Large, meaty, delish. The Hawaiian burger. Lotta flavor, good portion. The meh: the "signature" Bitter burger. Dry, over cooked, burnt bun. The Mediterranean salad seemed more pre-bag store bought rather than fresh vegetables. Bland, nothing special. Understanding the place was busy, our server suggested we order apps if we were hungry as the kitchen was backed up, we ordered 3 apps. The brussel sprouts were better than the Quesadillas. Basic bar food there. Total dinner time 2 hours. read more

We had just come into Lake Placid and we couldn't find anyone to accommodate a large group, so we came to Saranac Lake to this establishment. They were able to accommodate us in an upstairs room. It was very drafty and cold. We all had to eat with our jackets on, the food choices were somewhat overwhelming as they had Mexican, American, Nuvo Colombian servers were absolutely wonderful, polite and courteous. The street tacos were delicious. However, the first round they were somewhat cold. You have to take into consideration it was a holiday weekend, so I'm sure they were overwhelmed, all in all is an adequate place to eat I think perhaps it was just questionable because of the holiday weekend. read more

Stopped in to eat but unknowingly showed up with 2min left to order breakfast and an hour early for lunch. The server allowed us to order breakfast. Food was outstanding. Hash, eggs, pancakes and toast. Nothing crazy but you could tell it was fresh! The reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is the weird one hour of no service for food. Seems odd to me that they can't just switch from one to the other without an hour off. Definitely worth a stop in (as long as it's not between the hours of 11-12!) read more

This could have been a 5-star review, or more likely, a 1-star review. It has been a day since we dined here, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Short version of the story: the food was good, but it took over an hour to get our appetizers and that was only after I said something. The longer version: We were excited by the menu - it was interesting with lots of veg options. There was a line and we waited patiently for about 45 minutes. We had a chance to look at the menu, so we ordered right away. We noticed the food was taking a while, but we saw a couple who sat before us still waiting as well, so we waited patiently. Then I noticed a couple who sat at least 20 minutes after us get their dinner and a family who sat at the same time get their dinner. Only then did I realize that it was nearly a full hour since we sat down. I felt like dropping a few dollars for our drinks and leaving, but we were really hungry. I flagged down a waitress and told her I was mad. Our waitress finally came over to apologize. About five minutes later we got our apps. The waitress offered us another drink. I had another beer. My wife declined. About the food: We ordered Brussels and dumplings, both were very good. I didn't recognize the name of the dipping sauce. Turns out that it was a type of chili pepper sauce. I like hot food, but my lips were feeling it for quite a while. We shared a grain bowl for the entree. It had quinoa, beans, sweet potatoes, and more. It was excellent and kudos to them for splitting it for us. The food was very good and fresh. The bill came. They did comp my second beer. They didn't have the courtesy to comp my wife's glass of wine. Not only that, but I had to ask the waitress to take a drink off the bill that we didn't order! Eclipse day 2024 was awkward for many Saranac Lake establishments, falling as it did during a sacrosanct spring break. But this mighty neighborhood joint met the waves of day trippers with aplomb. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and hope to return on another occasion to revisit Bitters & Bones' flavorful menu and house-brewed ale. Pulled pork isn't ordinarily my jam but once it's tossed with black beans, rice, tomatoes, and cilantro, and topped with a generous plop of guacamole...ooh baby. They did it right. We did have a problem trying to place our order since phones were busy but it was worth it. So glad we were able to get take out from here. We came up here for a hiking trip and wanted to treat ourselves with food that wasn't just granola bars or pb&j's. I got the cola-marinated steak with greens. The steak was cooked perfectly and so good! There was a lot of flavor which I wasn't expecting. It was a tiny bit fatty but I didn't mind much. The greens were arugula with some kind of dressing (not sure what it was since it wasn't described in the menu) it was tart, refreshing, and complimented the steak. Boyfriend had the Hawaiian burger, was cooked the way he asked and without cheese like he wanted. Was juicy and surprisingly the pineapple went really well with it. As others have said, utensils aren't included, but that was okay for us since we had our own. Might be a problem for those that don't have. Sweet sweet sweet!! It's sinking in what I've been hearing foreigners say about Americans. Just cover your food in sugar and smile. I guess that's partly why we're so obese. The staff was very nice and the ambience is also lovely and comfortable. We ordered harissa wings, buffalo wings, the Bitters burger (Cheddar, Smoked Bacon, Crispy Fried Onion, Bitters BBQ, Fresh Jalapeno), and the Poke bowl (Fresh Ahi, Cucumber, Ripe Mango, Wakame, Chili Crisp, Sesame, White Rice, Ginger-Tamari Drizzle & Wasabi Mayo). The harissa on the wings was barely detectable with the amount of sugar stirred into the sauce. I didn't take the leftovers since I don't need the wings to survive, I'm on vacation so I'd like to eat for enjoyment. The smoked buffalo wings were tasty. The burger tasted like it was made for a sugar addicted 7 year old. That bbq sauce was sickly sweet. And if you are going to use bacon bits instead of bacon, then put that in the burger description. I was barely able to taste bacon. Plus, it was med well, I ordered med rare. The poke bowl was fresh and had tender tuna but the tuna flavor barely came thru due to the sweet sauce. A dish like this should shine from the different nuanced flavors in the dish. That ginger tamari sauce overpowered the whole bowl with sweetness. I guess when a country becomes as addicted to sugar as we have you are supposed to cater to the masses. Next time I'll be more careful ordering my food from places and continually ask if my food is being made for an adult and not a sugar addicted toddler. I don't think that I am being overly critical about the amount of sugar, it's OK to use some sugar but you should be able to taste the different ingredients a lot more than we were able to. Decrease the amount of sugar in these dishes please, thank you. read more

First of all... the food... damn I came here for the winder festival thus they had a selective menu, however, everything in that menu was bomb! And it wasn't regular bar food, which it was very refreshing to see. The ambiance was great as well as the decor, upscale bar for sure! Drinks where good and well priced.
