We visited on a busy Saturday night, so it took a bit for our entrees, however it was quite alright though, because we had some great cocktails in the meantime! I got a birria bowl which was great, and if I ordered again I would just order some extra cheese! My partner got the chief burger and was happy with his choice. We were able to snag some seats at the bar which was our preference, but there were some available tables in the back dining area, too. I'll start by saying that we arrived and were very confused. There was a lack of communication from any server or hostess about where we could sit, if we had to be seated or could seat ourselves. We wanted to be outside, so we did go up to the front deck and unfortunately there were no tables. There was also no seating on the back deck except at the bar. Ultimately, we decided to go to the front deck again and order some drinks and sit on the couches where we waited until a table opened up. Then we swooped in like falcons as soon as a table was available. So after that first bit, we were finally seated and ordered some food and more drinks. I ordered the brussels sprouts and a burrata salad. I really enjoyed the brussels sprouts, and the burrata itself was great - though I would have enjoyed larger slices of heirloom tomatoes instead of the chopped up bits that reminded me of pico. At least it all tasted great. The service was very good. The two guys manning the bar on the front deck were great. The girl that brought up our meals was friendly. We enjoyed sitting and taking in the town. I recommend going early so you can get a table or get some drinks and then grab a table as soon as one opens up. We walked over from the Hotel Saranac and were quickly greeted, and sat where we wanted. Our drinks arrived quickly, our waiter was very helpful. Appetizers delivered, sooo delicious ( we had the dumplings). It was very difficult to choose from all of the delicious options for dinner. We wanted to eat local tonight rather than going back to Lake Placid so we decided to try Bitters and Bones. Glad we did! The restaurant was busy but we found a seat quickly. Staff was friendly and attentive. Gives off a local favorite vibe. There was quite a bit of seating in the front room, another room a few steps up from there, and also rooftop seating. We didn't venture up to the roof as it looked quite crowded from the outside. Hubby got an in-house brew and a shot of bourbon for $11. I ordered one of the summer cocktails which was refreshing. For dinner I had the Ropa Vieja Bowl and hubby had Carne A La Parrilla. We also had wings with Thai Maple sauce. Food was excellent and portions were generous. I ended up boxing up more than half of my bowl which can easily be another full meal. I didn't take pics except for the leftovers that I brought back to the hotel. My chum and I stopped by here for a post-hike meal after summiting nearby Scarface Mountain. She had been here before; I wouldn't classify this as a recommendation per se, but it was mentioned as a perfectly fine option based on one prior visit, and I was intrigued by the edgy name and menu. We came in around 2ish, and the place was pretty empty beyond a small handful of customers. We decided to go with a high-top table on the side of the room opposite the bar and made ourselves comfortable. I wasn't able to locate a drink menu on the website (certainly wouldn't hurt to add that to the three or four menu sections featured there already; otherwise it's a pretty snazzy site) so I could be off on the name, but I decided to get a cocktail that I think was called a bourbon or cranberry smash. It definitely had my spirit animal (bourbon) included, and some kind of fruity, sweet addition to complement same. I'm very pro enhancing the sweetness of bourbon. This was the highlight of our experience here by far, and I ordered a second one to enhance the rosy hue on my cheeks. Since many calories needed to be replenished, I opted for the Pulled Pork Plate ($23), which featured pulled pork, bbq sauce, a jalapeno-cheddar corn cake and two sides. I went with the fries and mac and cheese for my aforementioned sides; admittedly, the fries just weren't my jam - I'm more into crispy, thicker fries, so I let my chum munch on those. That's not a knock on the establishment though, just personal preference. The mac and cheese was okay - nothing mind-blowing, but it did the job. The pulled pork was also average. The biggest issue for me was that it looked and tasted like it had been pre-made. It came out super fast (which is usually a positive), but it was obviously because it wasn't made to order. It just didn't taste very fresh, which brought down the whole dish. It was hard to distinguish the corn cake because it was literally under all of the pork/BBQ, but I did think it added some good texture to the proceedings. My chum got a poke bowl and requested tofu instead of fish on the top. When the waiter brought the poke bowl out, it prominently featured, you guessed it, fish. He was apologetic and rectified the problem, but it was literally the only special request she made and based on his reaction, it just wasn't written down and/or remembered when the order was initially taken. Not a huge deal, but worth noting. The price point was pretty competitive, though I think the prices in this region overall are pretty amazing (likely PTSD from routinely making purchases in the NYC metro area), and everyone was very personable and welcoming. I'd have no issue returning but I'd probably stick with the drinks. read more
