This review is long overdue -- I've been coming here for several months now for chronic TMJ and have been seeing Dr. Alex. From the first appointment she was very thorough, kind and knowledgeable. She is very easy to talk to and it's clear she really knows her stuff. After the first appointment she shared what treatment would look like and I found myself experiencing almost immediate relief within 2-3 appointments. I've been able to go from weekly appointments to maintenance every 4-5 weeks now. I appreciate how methodical and intentional everything is. I learned about this place because my boyfriend was coming here for chiropractic. My personal insurance does not cover chiropractic, but luckily it does cover acupuncture and my oh my has acupuncture been quite the game changer for me. I've been suffering from chronic lower back and neck pain to the point that sometimes I can't even get out of bed by myself. Deciding to give acupuncture a try has been one of the best decisions I have made. Since I started coming to see Dr. Mary Long, my pain levels have improved dramatically and I've been having less stuck in bed moments. I've noticed that on weeks I don't come I definitely have more pain. Dr. Long is wonderful. She is very kind and professional. She keeps her office clean and it has a very calming atmosphere to it, with soothing music and a heat lamp to keep you warm. The front office staff is very welcoming. I have been coming to Bixby Knolls Wellness Center for over a year and it has been a wonderful experience. I began working with Dr. Whitney and from the start she genuinely cared about my wellbeing. The front desk is not helpful and did not want to work with me to make sure my insurance was accepted for my first appointment. They wanted to charge me $150 when I clearly have insurance that they did not sort out until one day before my appointment. They waisted my time driving there and still charged me $100 because I wanted to wait for my insurance to be cleared. They didn't even try to work with me and help me they just went forward with canceling my appointment and taking my money. Their excuse was having so many new patients, if they can't manage they shouldn't be accepting new patients. I was clearly in distress and there was no sympathy nor good customer service. If you are a pregnant patient seeking chiropractic care, please be careful to ensure you are not taken advantage of and up-charged unnecessarily at this office. I had my one and only appointment at Bixby Knolls Wellness with Dr. Hannah Whitney. I thought the visit went okay. However, after my visit, I checked my insurance's Explanation of Benefits and noticed I had been charged for 3 separate manipulations all for my one single office visit. I asked my insurance for more information on each manipulation and realized Dr. Hannah Whitney, or someone at their office, falsely inputted a diagnostic code claiming I had "Segmental and Somatic Dysfunction of Ribcage." This diagnostic code was used to justify an "Extraspinal Manipulation" (CPT Code 98943) that was neither warranted nor medically necessary. I never complained of any ribcage issues nor do I have any mobility or pain problems related to the ribcage area. Furthermore, this manipulation was billed to my insurance in addition to two other manipulations: 1) "Spinal, 3-4 Regions - 98941" and 2) "Manual Therapy Technique - 97140. " I have no issues with those 2 manipulations and did not contest their legitimacy. When I called Bixby Knolls Wellness for an explanation, they initially tried to claim the Extraspinal Manipulation was done because I was pregnant. However, at only 17 weeks I had zero ribcage issues or related pain/tightness. Thankfully, when I finally spoke with Dr. Pearl, the owner, she listened to my concerns and promised to re-bill me and remove the Extraspinal Manipulation from my bill. I trust she will follow through on her promise. Once she does, I will update my review accordingly. FYI, I visited Life Choice Chiropractic in Long Beach after my poor experience at Bixby Knolls Wellness with Hannah Whitney. Life Choice is also in-network for my insurance, and they have doctors who specialize in the Webster method to treat pregnant patients. Dr. Broderick was phenomenal! I was billed for one single manipulation and felt fabulous when I left! As my pregnancy advances, I anticipate that I may have additional pain/discomfort and areas of need that should be addressed. Under those circumstances, I do expect to be billed for multiple manipulations in a single visit, but only if justified and medically necessary. read more

Dr Pearl is amazing. She's a great listener and has resolved/improved multiple problems I've had. Dr O'hara is also great and she's helped me too. 1 former issue I'm often remembering is I use to have a problem with a bit of numbness on the top of my right foot, and it hurt if I tied my shoe tight. This had been going on for decades and I discussed it with many doctors. Dr Pearl solved the problem in just a few weeks. As in solved, not there any more, no longer an issue. My insurance doesn't cover her anymore, however, I continue to see her because we have figured out what works. After living all over the country and trying so many different chiropractors, she is the ONLY one who has brought me long-term RELIEF for my TMJ. I have tried everything- when she suggested I try her laser therapy (can't remember specifically what it's called), I was at my last straw - about to get a referral for surgery! It wasn't covered by insurance, but I am so happy I did it! She told me it was imperative my first round of sessions be close together - so I did 2 or 3 sessions a week for a week or two. This Wellness Center is amazing. The staff is terrific and Dr. Pearl us literally changed my life! I've been seeing a chiropractor since I was 18 and it's very rare to find one so amazing as she is. She really takes her time and truly cares about her patients. She can get my neck (which is typically not easy to get movement with) so easily. Her approach is very gentle and easy.
