You gotta have ice cream at the Oregon coast! We stopped by BJs for a sweet treat during our trip. They said they make their ice cream in Florence Oregon. The ice cream was decent-the best part was the hot fudge. I personally like way more mix ins in my ice cream. I only had one piece of brownie / cookie in my whole scoop. Limited seating at this location - I would plan on getting your ice cream to go if it's busy. read more

Great little ice cream shop that has a ton of fun flavors and the usual to choose from. There is also a large wall of salt water taffy, a fridge with sodas, another freezer with brownies and ice cream sandwiches. The kid's scoops were generous and the single scoop huge! Great prices for the amount of ice cream received. There isn't seating but I was told the picnic tables by the brewery next store was a shared place. Parking is not the easiest right by the store but there is a larger parking lot by the beach with free parking and a short walk to their shop. read more

Walked into the WRONG place for a good time last weekend. I still got my white vanilla cream... but at what cost? Cream is very creamy and gooey and moist and rich. The ice cream was creamy, melts in your mouth, be ready with napkins! We asked for a tester for our cat who loves ice cream waiting for us in the car! The mint chip had huge chocolate chips chunks! Vanilla oreo, cookie dough, cherry & brownie, mint chocolate chip & salted caramel all had their own raving reviews from each of us! I'm glad we found this little gem! Best ice cream I've had so far on this vacation. Ordered the salted caramel on a waffle cone. The icee cream was sweet and creamy with the just the right punch of salt I want in salted caramel. Just one scoop is all you need, really, because they are very generous. I've been to Newport many times and this is the first time I have been to the Nye Beach area on NW Coast St. It's really quaint in this area of Newport. There's lots of shops and cafe's but less touristy. If your looking for a something sweet, stop by BJs! You won't regret it. read more

Unfortunately, the ice cream here is just okay. As expected in a tourist area, it's a little overpriced, but not grossly so. I was very disappointed in the shop's total disregard for social distancing. They require masks, but there were no limits on the number of people in the shop or markers for where to stand. It would take minimal extra effort for them to place a few tape marks on the floor to indicate spacing. Even setting aside the social distancing issues, the ice cream isn't really worth the calories. read more

Great service, great ice cream, great value! My daughter and I stopped in, because every time we go to the beach, we must get ice cream. At least, that's what she thinks. So, never been to this place in Newport, but saw they had good reviews. Glad we did! Not only did they offer a plethora of yummy sounding flavors, by the price was affordable. I used to like this place. It's turned into a nasty, filthy place over time. Dead bugs in the ice cream, mold, some odd substances dripping from the counter, dirty walls and a filthy ice cream display case. Warning: MOLD EVERYWHERE I'm the ice cream display case. The owner doesn't care. They just get mad at customer reviews like a 5 year old child rather than addressing issues. It's sad and pathetic. Not going here any more. read more

If they took cards for payment, they would totally get 5 stars from me. I do understand though as a small business taking only cash. But as a traveler, I never carry cash because it's unsafe to do so. The people helping me though where amazing. Super friendly, giving samples when asked and handling a large amount of people rather quickly. Their flavors included old favorites and their own versions of things. I had a cup with a scoop of their Mountain BlackBerry and scoop of the Oregon Trail. The Oregon Trail is hazelnut chocolate ice cream with a raspberry ribbon and hazelnuts. I don't really know which was more delicious but the Oregon Trail was one of the most unique ice creams I've ever eaten and also one of the tastiest. It wasn't too sweet... And it even satisfy my chocolate craving! They have a wicked amount of different saltwater Taffy's that you can buy and are apparently known for that. I can't speak to it as I did not get any no matter how tempting it was! read more

The ice cream is decent but the customer service is lacking. I went there with a group of friends because we heard their milkshakes are awesome. Arrived a little after 8pm, but the workers refused to make milkshakes because they didn't want to wash the tins again. If you're open until 9pm, you should serve your whole menu if it's available. Not wanting to do dishes seems a bit lazy to me. And the smug attitude that accompanied it wasn't helpful either. If you don't like your job, just work somewhere else...everyone is hiring. We'll find some other milkshakes in the meantime. read more

I went in on a Monday so it wasn't nearly as packed like it is on the weekend. It's your typical ice cream shop, the ice cream was good. There wasn't anything incredible about it and it wasn't like they have flavors that are really out there. Price wasn't so bad for a tourist spot but the waffle cone was definitely stale and disgusting. No vegan or dairy free options in the tubs but they have frozen bananas in a smaller freezer to the side. Again, frozen bananas were fine, nothing spectacular. read more

BJ's BLOWS! The ice cream was totally frozen, and way too hard to eat! No flavor and expensive! The set up of the store is super dumb. While waiting in line, you can't see all the flavors because the ice cream windows are on both sides of the register. There's no sign with flavors on it, so you have to look through the windows to see what they have. They also don't give samples! Maybe if I could have sampled, I would have known how much this ice cream sucked before I spent $8.50 on an ice cream cone! I really wanted strawberry ice cream. There was a sign that said, "We have vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream," but they did not! The server broke my ice cream cone because the ice cream was too hard and instead of giving me a new cone, he turned my cone over in a cup... dumb and not appreciated. BJ's is absolutely delicious ice cream. No reason to stand in line at the Tillamook Creamery when u can go to a BJs for easily as good ice cream. The only downside to the BJs in Newport is they don't offer tasting before buying while all the other locations do offer that service. read more

My Mom's name was Betty Jean, so of course I had to try this Ice Cream shop. I saw on the menu board they had "Licorice Ice Cream" and I almost fell over. I Love Licorice Ice Cream and it's very difficult to find in most Ice Cream Shops. However, it was white L.I.C. and sadly did not have the same "punch" as Black Licorice I.C. But that's o.k., the young man who was helping us let us try a lot of other yummy choices and I ended up with a Carmel I.C. which for sure, did not disappoint. Gotta be honest, this place felt like a tourist trap. Yes, they have a wide variety of taffy flavors but many of them were flavorless and uninteresting. And the rocky road ice cream tasted like chocolate flavoring, not real chocolate. Pretty disappointing. read more

Great service and the ice cream was super delicious! I got a scoop of the cotton candy. My boyfriend got the bing cherry flavor. We both loved our what we got. We had a reservation and they took us in a few minutes early and sat us upstairs. We sat near the window that overlooks the harbor and could see it from our table. Very pretty. There is a bar area and other tables that are away from the window that don't have the same view. When we were approached by the waitress, she informed us that they were out of Dungeness crab. Our reservation was at 6:15 PM. Seems a bit odd that a town known for Dungeness crab and the restaurant doesn't have it during peak dinner hours. My husband ordered a cup of clam chowder, and I ordered a cup of the Dungeness crab soup. I loved the creaminess of my soup. However, it was not served hot. Also, there were so many shells in my soup that every bite I had to remove one from my mouth. I do believe that the roux sauce had too much flour and was not mixed well. The clam chowder was not creamy, but had a good flavor. Chunks of carrot and celery. Both soups were served with a portion of bread. The bread was good. We shared the salmon dish. We asked our waitress if we could have the peas on the side as my husband has an allergy to peas. She was quick to tell me that there would be no substitutions. I informed her I was merely asking for the peas to put on a separate dish when brought to the table. She said that she would need to clear it with the kitchen first. Apparently, they approved, as the peas were served on the side. We did enjoy the salmon. It is cooked, medium rare. However, the middle of the salmon fillet was more rare. The buttery sauce was delicious and the asparagus was cooked very well. The mushrooms were delicious. The restaurant is very casual. The outside is not much to look at. The service was fine, but not exceptional. The food was good, but my expectations were so much higher for all of the accolades I had heard prior to dining. They add an automatic tip of 20% to every tab. Then on the bill, they politely ask for an additional gratuity. See the picture of the reason for their 20% gratuity on each bill in the photos that I have attached. I would give this restaurant four stars. It is a B rating for what should be an A restaurant.

The real star was the soda bread - move over sourdough! Bar was pretty busy but the service was still good. Bar itself is clean and had a great selection of liquor. I've eaten in quite a few places on the west coast that claim to serve Irish food and I have always been unsatisfied with the authenticity. So I was very surprised and impressed with the food served at Nana's. My experience started with the ambiance. It truly had the feel of a real Irish Pub. This was followed by the hospitality. Our server was amazing. She had great menu suggestions for the people who were eating with us. They have eaten a wide variety of Irish food. She made an excellent selection as to the Irish beer that would best suit my palate. They have several Irish beers on tap. I chose the Smithwicks Red Ale. It was delicious and very enjoyable. Now for the food. Many years ago I enjoyed Steak & Stout Pie in a Dublin Ireland pub. It was really good. I've had it in several locations here back home but it just wasn't the same. So when I spotted the Steak & Guinness pie it peaked my interest and I ordered it. Well I definitely was not disappointed. More so it was like reliving an old pleasant memory. The Steak & Guinness pie was spot on. Every bit as enjoyable as the one I tried in Dublin. I very highly recommend trying this establishment if you're traveling to or through Newport. You will not regret enjoying the food and the experience.

The young man managing the shop…read moreoffered us samples and apologized for the slightly runny ice cream as the freezers were brand new. We tried a few different flavors and all were very good. Will definitely be back, especially since some of the other ice cream stores were closed or are cash only.
