I can't speak to their coffee but their ice cream is delicious! The young man managing the shop offered us samples and apologized for the slightly runny ice cream as the freezers were brand new. We tried a few different flavors and all were very good. Will definitely be back, especially since some of the other ice cream stores were closed or are cash only. read more

Went to get sweet cold caffeine. Ended up being charged $6 for a single lindos chocolate ball and had a $.75 up charge for asking for light ice. When I questioned the $6 charge I was informed, "I don't set the prices." We left and were called to as we welled down the street, "It was supposed to be two for $6. If you want you can come get one." By then I was done and waved it off, "No thanks..." thinking to myself that they are still charging twice as much as a convenience store... touristy spot with touristy prices. read more

Coffee was old school...The staff was totally awesome! Personally, I was hoping for more of a Third Wave style of coffee. I ordered a cappuccino and it came with a single shot in a huge cup filled with foamy milk. I requested a double shot and a third less milk. I still could barely taste the espresso and it was far too milky for my taste. This is great if you prefer this 1980's style of cappuccino. The vibe was great! Again, the staff was wonderful! Let's keep this short and sweet. The hours posted online say they are open at 6am. You get to the business location and a sign on the door says "spring hours: 10am". Located right in the harbor on the main boardwalk, Surf Town opens at just the right time on a Sunday morning. Spousifer and I got mochas (mine plain, his Mexican) which came out hot and delicious. If you're looking for a quick cup, this might not be the place for you. Our server was very talkative and gave us lots of tips about the local dining scene. They were very nice and we actually ended up taking their advice on dining at Local Ocean! Next time, I think I should get a fancier drink because the Mexican mocha was definitely tastier than mine. read more

Very excited to try a new local organic coffee roaster in Newport. Surf Town has two locations in the Historic Bayfront district by Newport Bay. I visited the main coffee shop and roasting location on Bay Blvd. There is a second location that serves coffee and Tillamook ice cream on the Abby Street Pier. My customer service experience wasn't perfect, but I'm going to cut the poor guy a break. He was in the middle of roasting a batch of beans and his counter help was taking a break. He gamely ran back and forth to help me until another employee arrived. I appreciate that he didn't just blow me off and went above and beyond to be helpful even though the situation wasn't idea. The coffee house is pretty small with just a couple tables and one wicker couch inside. It has the expected no frill, surfing motif. Electrical outlets are minimal, but they found one for me to use. There are also a couple of outdoor seats. The coffee was quite good and I'll give them another try next time I'm in the area. read more

Stopped through Surf Town to grab some drinks before we got back on the road during our road trip. The first time we tried to stop in, the shop was closed and there was a sign that said the barista was on a delivery. We circled back later and were lucky to catch them before we left. My boyfriend got a flavored Red Bull and I got a Raspberry Italian Soda. Both drinks were pretty tasty, and at a good price, too! Can't really beat that. read more

It was a little chilly by the bayfront so we stopped in for a hot beverage to warm us up. Great little shop, it was clean and tidy. The barista was pleasant and helpful. We order two chai teas, one blue raspberry Italian soda, and a loose leaf hot green tea. All drinks were prepared well and hit the spot and kept us warm and cozy while we finished our shopping trip. Stopped in a few days ago and honestly almost walked right back out - the barista was so unfriendly and seemed annoyed the whole time. She spoke about 3 words to me. I ordered a "Grande" (16 oz) and ended up with a 20 oz. Maybe I should've said medium...or she could've clarified what I meant if I wasn't clear? $7.50 for an Americano! Nothing fancy. We saw the sign stating Tillamook ice cream and knew we had to go in after lunch. One scoop in a waffle cone is $4.50 and it's a big one. I had the chocolate fudge (it's called something else) and the kid had rocky road. It was soooo darn delish. The flavors were on point, huge amounts of chocolate fudge that ran throughout and it was very rich. Not like heavy cream rich but also rich with the flavor. The young man didn't seem to be bothered by us asking for at least 4 samples. Every flavor tasted the way it should and it was so hard to pick. Worst tea and coffee I've ever had. There was a young lady working by herself that day. I'm not sure she didn't sneak in and pose as a barista. She serve my son's ice tea in a cup of ice water with the bag in it. How is tea going to steep in ice water? It didn't. It was still water with a tea bag in it 10 mins later. I got a latte. I have been meaning to write a review for this place since I first came here in June on vacation. After trying a few coffee shops in Newport I have found my go to place when I am in town! Surf Town! The manager/ owner was very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. He clearly knew everything from roasting technique to flavor profiles. The espresso had a well balanced flavor and they had a good selection of alternative milk options. This location (and I think the other) is located on the bay front shopping strip. I can see how for a local this might make it hard to just drop in on some days. If you get the chance stop on in for a real coffee lovers experience!! read more

Cute coffee spot tucked inside a tourist goods store. They do their own roasting, have bags of whole beans for sale with clever names like "Great White Roast" (highly caffeinated), and also have loose leaf tea and biscotti. The coffee is decent-I did have to have my Americans remade since there was a little much water in it the first time-but the barista was very kind and didn't seem to mind the request. read more

Chose Surf Town as the coffee destination for the beach trip based on reviews. An order of breve latte with light ice turned out a watery and overly caffeinated something. Almond latte order was no better. The third drink turned another member's stomach upside-down. A refund was requested for the whole order but was told that only one drink could be refunded. First two drinks were remade. The vegan option turned much better with cold hemp milk. The gentleman who refused the refund was not approachable so high sensitive types might not feel welcome. The ocean themed coffee nook has a fun vibe along with its "positive" message which unfortunately is the antithesis of the ambience it advertises. There's room for improvement with coffee recipes and customer service. The gentleman also spoke at and over our heads with coffee lingo to deflect our concerns about the poorly made drinks. Went here while visiting family on the coast, I wanted something sweet but not caffeinated. The gentleman behind the counter was in such a good mood, it was somewhat contagious. They roast their own beans and the coffee is excellent. Cash only. If you get one of the owners, have a chat with them about their beans and how they roast them.
