Came in for a quick pint and a bite while visiting from elsewhere. Irish beer always tastes good. The Tiegans delight was pretty tasty. Gravy was a little chunky. The real star was the soda bread - move over sourdough! Bar was pretty busy but the service was still good. Bar itself is clean and had a great selection of liquor. Early dinner on the patio was Donegal shrimp, Sheppard's pie and an entree salad. Probably our sixth time here and still pretty consistent with attentive service. Beer battered shrimp with Nancy sauce, like a 1000 island with some Sriracha, good starter. Sheppard's pie takes 20 minutes and comes out smoking hot. We added the $1 up charge cheese (should come as original equipment). The pie is enough for two and had quality ground beef, potatoes, peas,corn and a silky gravy, mashed potatoes really good. Corn bread is spot on. Entree salad with homemade blue cheese(ordered a 2nd cup for .75)dressing had, onion, cucumber, tomatoes , boiled egg, cheese. Plenty to share and was fresh stuff. Nana's is a pretty big restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Food- We got the Galway Cod au tu gratin and Shepherds pie. Both were pretty good. I would give the food 3.5-4 stars. There wasn't a lot of Cod fish (see pic). It was like 4 small pieces over the mashed potatoes. The sauce was yummy. The Shepherds pie is crusted with potatoes and not the flaky crust that they use for the chicken pot pie. The filling was tasty and we got a side of their homemade hot sauce, which is packed with flavor. Bread pudding and their in house whip cream 3.5 The restaurant is a bit older. In a recent visit to Nye Beach we stopped in at Nana's Irish Pub for a lite meal. I've never been in an Irish pub but it seemed to fit the bill. It was not too terribly busy and we were seated right away. We shared the Scotch Eggs and the Baked Brie Appetizer. Both were very good. My husband had to have a Guinness, of course, and I was going to have a glass of wine but missed the opportunity because our server didn't come back to ask a second time. Service was only so-so. Maybe it was an "off" day but none of the staff looked happy to be there. If we are ever in the area again we would give it another try. read more

Lovely kid friendly pub with awesome Irish dishes. The waiter was great! He just shrugged his shoulders said kids and going to be kids when our toddler went goblin mode. I always wanted to try scotch eggs and was not disappointed. Crunchy, soft, addicting. The Guinness pie was full of gravy, veggies, and meat. It appeared as if it should have been a heavy dish but it somehow wasn't. Pie crust was flakey as - f. The corned beef was tender. I could have it every Sunday. I personally didn't love the carrots or cabbage that came with it. I can't describe the taste other than being strange. We ended with the bread pudding. This is more for myself but whenever I go I ask myself "have I tried the Reuben" now I have evidence and the answer for myself. The meat is delicious but a little dry. The cabbage is not too acidic so doesn't offend too much like sauerkraut in my opinion. I like the honey mustard instead of grain mustard. Call me a big child but I'm not a fan of mustard in general. The weather was gorgeous Saturday afternoon, and Nana's patio seating was too inviting to pass up. The main draw for me was the Guinness on tap, and the 20 oz. pint glass definitely hit the spot. For food, I ordered the Steak & Guinness pie, which had a flaky pastry top, with a very beefy gravy and chunks of steak. Overall it was very good, although some of the steak chunks did end up overcooked. I tried my wife's Galway Cod dish, and really wish I would have gone with that. The fish was perfectly white and tender, and was served with a tasty sauce. The service was fine, although at times a little too "extra" for my liking. Sitting outdoors in the beautiful sunshine really made the experience for us, so I'll give Nana's a solid 4 stars. read more

Had early dinner today. Be aware if you order their clam chowder, if it's not hot do not eat it! My husband is super sick. We ate early dinner before rush 4:00 ish, now he's super sick, terrible. We are from central Oregon and may need ER. I called Nana's she replied with, you should have ask to heat the soup up. We could hardly get their attention for more water. They just hung out waiting for more customers. Be aware of food temperatures! Also, when you bill comes, there's additional charges for using a card and three tip options, 18%,20%,25%, you have to opt for your own choice, if the service was better I'd understand, just be aware. We usually love and look forward to dining here but this time it was rather disappointing. The Colcannon soup was delicious as well as their always fantastic soda bread! My husband got the meatloaf and wasn't impressed but said mine looked better. Normally their Corned Beef is delicate and flaky, but this time not so much. I tried cutting it every different way and could hardly get the knife through it. Even my fork couldn't get through it. I got down one piece and my husband struggled but got most of the 2nd piece down. We have been here a dozen times or more and it's always been delicious. The Rueben's are the best. Please try them out! This was a Monday night and maybe they were off their game. We'll go back but will go with the tried and true Rueben's. read more

Tonight I tried Nana's Irish Pub. It had great reviews and claimed to have Irish cuisine. I was not disappointed. I've eaten in quite a few places on the west coast that claim to serve Irish food and I have always been unsatisfied with the authenticity. So I was very surprised and impressed with the food served at Nana's. My experience started with the ambiance. It truly had the feel of a real Irish Pub. This was followed by the hospitality. Our server was amazing. She had great menu suggestions for the people who were eating with us. They have eaten a wide variety of Irish food. She made an excellent selection as to the Irish beer that would best suit my palate. They have several Irish beers on tap. I chose the Smithwicks Red Ale. It was delicious and very enjoyable. Now for the food. Many years ago I enjoyed Steak & Stout Pie in a Dublin Ireland pub. It was really good. I've had it in several locations here back home but it just wasn't the same. So when I spotted the Steak & Guinness pie it peaked my interest and I ordered it. Well I definitely was not disappointed. More so it was like reliving an old pleasant memory. The Steak & Guinness pie was spot on. Every bit as enjoyable as the one I tried in Dublin. I very highly recommend trying this establishment if you're traveling to or through Newport. This Irish pub was a miss. The Irish soda bread was the star of the show, which says a lot. I ordered the Irish sausage rolls and while the puff pastry was flaky and decent (pretty sure it was frozen Pillsbury dough), the mash was just okay. The gravy was straight up disgusting and they hit me with a gargantuan amount of peas. The sausage itself? No sear, just a sad grey log. Service was rough. Our waitress seemed new and was genuinely confused by simple requests, like bringing appetizers and entrees at the same time. When it was time to pay, she dropped off the card reader and just left it at our table for 15 minutes which felt like an eternity. First time eating at Nana's Irish Pub. We were attended to quickly. The restaurant was clean and had a lot of things to look at while you waited for your food. It takes a bit longer to get your order but that is mentioned on the menu. The food was fresh and was worth the wait. The food was good and presented in a pleasing way. The only complaint I have was my own fault, I wanted the soup of the day, but I didn't say that when I ordered, I just said that I wanted soup assuming that there was only one. Not being familiar with the area, I asked a local for a good place to eat. They referred me to Nana's Irish Pub. Wow! What a gem of a pub. Obviously a favorite among the locals. Natasha is the amazing server that keeps everything running smoothly. I had the baked cod au gratin, which comes smothered with this cheesy/creamy goodness and resting on a pillow of mashed potatoes, peas and a slice of soda bread. Minion #2 and I are looking around Oregon for new digs, because I had an epiphany that I could live anywhere in Oregon with my telecommute job and we can flee our expensive yet truly crappy Portland apartment, and so we landed in Newport on a wet blustery November Saturday night with Minion's new boyfriend in tow ( he popped over from his nearby college to see my kid) after looking at rentals. We were cold and damp and cranky. It is not the best season to be looking to move maybe. Oh well. Irish pub food sounded like just the thing. Warm, carby, hearty. Right? It really is a very nice little pub. The staff were overall friendly and attentive. Only the hostess kind of wasn't ecstatic to see us. I think she was having a long day. I am using a walker right now because my post chemo neuropathy has kicked up and navigating between the tables was tough, and she seemed annoyed with that, but our primary server was great and very bubbly even when we were not. They have tons of alcohol choices and Guinesss of course which makes my Irish heart happy. I wish I could have had a boozy Irish coffee but I was driving. Minion who turned 21 not long ago surprisingly ordered a Brandy Alexander. It was potent, delicious, nutmeggy, and the kid only managed half of it. The boyfriend and I had rootbeers. We shared a smoked salmon spread appetizer ( yum), the kid got a decadent codfish gratin over mashed potatoes, I had a lovely shepherd's pie ( add cheddar cheese for $1), and the boyfriend had a cup of clam chowder and fish and chips ( not pictured as he is new and I am behaving). The kids also shared an apple raspberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. I tried that and it was very good. All in all a good meal at about $120 + tip for the three of us. Alrighty. An Irish pub in Newport, Oregon? Yup! Inside is very small, quant but small. I'm not sure if the back opens up in the fall/winter but there is outside seating. I know this is totally cliché but we wanted a burger. A good one and that's what we got! The burger comes dry, no sauce at all and at first you might be like.. uhhht oh. But no. The burger doesn't need it. Juicy and completely cooked to your order. Mine was medium rare and perfect. The fries were just so-so but the beer was great!! I had a half and half. Half Guinness and half red. The bread pudding was a bourbon chocolate and it was divine. That's heavy whipped crème on top and I have to say I've never had it made better than this. Service was SLOW. Good but slooooow. It was completely packed though and the next time we go I'll be ordering some of the authentic Irish food. read more

A trip to Newport is not complete without a stop at Nana's Irish Pub. Even if you're not hungry,  stop in for their Irish soda bread and a cup of chowder.  We stopped in for dinner. Got the Donegal shrimp roll and the Shepherd's pie.  Big portions.  The shrimp roll had enough shrimp to fill the bread. I liked the spicy sauce. Always happy with the clam chowder.  The Shepherd's pie was delicious. Good flavor and hearty.  There are two entrances to Nana's. One door on the bar side, other door to their restaurant. Both rooms have tables to dine. Ok to enter at either door.  It is always busy when we go. On a Friday for dinner or a weekend lunch. The wait hasn't ever been too long. Just remember that you're there to support a local business cooking up good food.  Tip: You can order their pies unbaked. The ambiance is great and the outdoor patio is ideal for a nice summer day but get ready to wait because it might randomly happen to you. We were visiting from out of town for our anniversary. It was also the first trip to Newport in about three years and we specifically came here to celebrate our day. Our waitress ignored us after seating us on the patio for an unknown-to-us reason. We brought our dog and the waitress from the adjacent section came to say hi to our dog three times, four other couples had been seated and were able to place an order, and our waitress seemed to make every effort to not walk by in the 30 minutes that we decided to wait at our table. We left having not talked to our waitress again and went someplace else. In past visits, while the food and service has been great, this was our first time with our dog and it definitely tainted any desire to want to return at a different time. It's deeply unfortunate. Talking with some locals and other visitors later in the day, they informed us that this is a sadly common experience: good food and slow service and go if you have no time constraints. read more

We were excited to try an Irish pub. We were seated on the "bar" side of the restaurant and initially we were the only ones there. Our drink order was taken by a gentleman and then our food order. Another customer came in and sat at the bar where their conversation became a little off putting but we chose to ignore it. A family with 2 young children came in and were seated at the table just behind us. The conversation between the gentleman became very political and inappropriate so much so the family with the children stopped another waitress and requested to be moved to the other side of the restaurant. We had to flag our waiter down both to ask for a second set of drinks and then to just get the bill, he was too busy giving a Tarot card reading to his friend at the bar. The customer service was NOT the best on many levels. (The hostess who had seated us was great). And for that reason IF we returned we would be more alert to where we sit. The food was mostly good, my husband had the meatloaf and it was a bit salty but the bread was AMAZING, as we were told it's baked fresh daily. Overall we'd possibly try it again as we are in Newport often and love Irish food but be more aware of our environment. read more

The only thing missing from Nana's was the trio belting out Irish music. Fortunately, the seafood place on the other side of the highway was a 90 minute wait and we spotted Nana's in our quest to feed an expectant mom who desired fish and chips. I glad we did. First, the bar had an outstanding selection of Irish whiskeys not to mention Harp and Smith wicks on tap. Their bar menu left one wondering what to get the dinner on. You was definitely the Irish theme. Had the pea soup which was the best I've ever had, the baked brie was a large portion enough for all four hungry eaters and that was capped off with fish and chips fresh delicious more than what we could eat. Service was fairly quick given how busy it was. Staff was friendly. Nanna is definitely a place to stop in if you're ever in Newport, Oregon. This place felt like we were back in Ireland. It's quaint; nothing fancy but it feels cozy and comfortable. We ordered meatloaf, shepard's pie and bangers and mash. Everything was amazing; lots of flavor, big portions. The service was uncertain at first. They were confused where to sit us even though we were only a party of 4 and at times, it was tough to flag someone down for basic things like water refills and for the bill.
