Store inventory and prices are fair to good at this location. Admiration, Customer & Club Services are poor. The people are fine; the "selling" of membership" is not as readily accessible online as you would expect. All administration in membership status is essentially done in store. I'm not sure that's true, but the staff will tell you that. So if you have an issue, erroneous charges, card use etc., you have to go to the store. Not a big benefit when we are trying to get away from " bricks and mortar" stores or if you are in a time restraint. Again, it's the business mentality, not the individual staff I have an issue with. I typically only go to BJ's to get gas. You won't find a better price for gas than at BJ's. It was $2.95 yesterday, but it probably won't stay that way for long. Lines can be very long for gas. The hose is also long so, it doesn't matter which side the gas door is on your car, it will reach it. As far as the store itself goes, most items are in bulk and I don't need almost anything in bulk. I'll usually get milk, some fruit, not a lot. The wait at the deli is so slow, very slow. It makes me want to give up on everything in my cart. BJ's is a club. You must be a member to shop here. It is $25.00 if it's your first time joining the membership, or $55.00 if it's beyond that. If you have a need for bulk items for your family, it might be worth your time shopping here. read more

For people that like to juice celery... I bought 4- 1lb bags of Bjs organic celery $3 a bag. Two or 2lbs bags yields only 12oz of juice! There are a lot of yellow leaves that I had to throw away to keep the juice from tasting extremely bitter. Even so the juice was still very bitter. At COSCO I buy 1 -2lb bag for under $6 and it yields 32 oz of juice and it is delicious. There really is no excuse for such a low standard grade of organic celery. People pay more for organic for its quality... and BJs celery is gross! read more

The food selection is good. The prices are not bad, although other discount grocers often tend to be less expensive. If you want brand names, this isn't a bad place to get them. If you have even the most basic allergies, don't bother with their bakery. Otherwise, it's fine. What I've seen of the tire center has been good. We usually go to the BJs in Torrington, but once in a while find ourselves at the West Hartford or Manchester stores. The Manchester BJ's is pretty similar to the one in West Hartford - a crazy busy parking lot, a crowded store, and a fairly neat interior. We usually get certain things here, like their dirt-cheap rotisserie chicken, boxes of coffee creamers, and certain frozen foods like mini tacos, chicken burgers, and meatballs. They are terrific for throw together dinners. We stopped by today to specifically buy those three frozen foods, but oddly, all they had in stock were the mini tacos. Oh well, we will definitely get them at our next Torrington stop. Check out time saw the usual craziness at the front of the store, but I spied out of the corner of my eye an almost empty checkout line waaayyy over on the extreme right side. The actual club and food prices are great especially meat and veggies. The only reason this is a 3star is because the tire center is terrible. I'd give them 1 star. There never seems to be anyone there to answer the phone and when you go in your waiting until the tech is done servicing a car to help. Over my tire experience I wasted over two hours waiting on phones, or in store for the help. I also was told I could drop the car the night before only to be told by someone else it wasn't possible once I was there with the car. Then I had to go into the store to discuss that with the manager so they could give my keys to the staff in the morning. I saved about 100.00 over going to a town fair tire but with all the time waste and aggravation it wasn't worth it. If you don't value your time then go there. read more

I called to make an appointment to bring my tire in for a repair and was continually put on hold for 35 minutes. I do not see anywhere to make an appointment online otherwise I would have done that. Apparently Stacy is the manager over there, I asked to speak to her and she never picked up. There's nowhere to leave a message, it just keeps ringing and ringing and circling back to member service. They would just pick me up and transfer even after I expressed nobody was picking and I was getting frustrated. Stacy might need to give her staff some customer service phone skills. Customer service is incredibly poor. It's been a month so far, several hours on the phone, broken promises of call-backs, and still unable to use the service we paid for. Looking forward to the new Costco coming soon. I have been a member since 2003. I have never had issues with my membership until recently. I paid my annual membership dues, as usual, in November 2020. But then on May 3rd 2021 an additional deduction was made from my linked checking account in the amount of $55.00. I called customer service on 5/3/2021 and the representative (Randy) agreed to refund the erroneous charge. I received the funds on 5/10/2021. On 5/13/2021 I went to get gas at BJ's but my card was rejected as my membership was cancelled. I was unable to buy gas or buy anything at your store that day. On 5/14/2021 I called customer service again and spoke with Christy. I explained the problem and she told me that the issue had been referred to Membership Support. She assured me I would be contacted within 48 hours. On 5/15/2021 I called again and spoke with Auturo who said that my case would be escalated and resolved within 72 hours. On 5/17/2021 I called again and spoke with Karina who said that they were "looking into it" with Membership Support. On 5/19/2021 I called again and spoke with Miguel, a Supervisor in Customer service. He said that he was aware of the situation. He requested that I send proof that the $55.00 membership was charged and then refunded as the Credit Department required it before my account could be reactivated. He said that he would contact me after receiving the bank information. I'm surprised that I was responsible for this - I assume you keep records. I went through the trouble of calling up my bank statements, screen-shotting the information that was requested, and emailed it to the address provided. It took awhile. Despite the promise to receive a response within 5 days, no response was received. On 5/25/2021 - I called again and spoke with Mario to inquire about the status of my issue. He said that the membership Support department is responsible for reactivating my membership. He said it would be reactivated in 3 days. 5/28/2021 - My account is still "expired". I called again and spoke with Kevin. This was another hour-long conversation, most of it listening to hold music. Kevin told me that it was in the hands of the Credit Department - he couldn't give me any more information. He said that Eduardo would contact me on Memorial Day, 5/31/2021. He stated that, as a Philippines contractor, they would not be celebrating the holiday. read more

Bjs vs SAMs club vs Costco ? I think the answer is the one that's closest to you. Now that I no longer have a kid in diaper (hallelujah!) and don't have any plans to buy a flat-screen TV this year, wondering if the annual membership fee pays for itself in savings or not? I know it does if u have a big family but for a family of 2 .... I'd think twice. GAS prices is definitely an attraction and our main reason to get into the club. But it's also one of the few clubs with a large selection of organic products and the only club that accept all manufactures coupons. Buying in bulk to save money makes perfect sense with some products, such as mouthwash or soap. But with perishables it's a disaster...Unless you're sure you can and actually want to eat five pounds of cheese before it goes bad, the extra food is just a waste of money. My membership has been paid in savings this year (unlike any other year) only coz I had too many mouths to feed ....but otherwise i think retail is the way to go. read more

This is a review of BJs curbside pickup. In a word, horrible. I ordered 5 items online for pickup at 2 pm. We get there at 2, expecting to see a number to call to announce our arrival. Nope. You have to download the BJs app. Glad I don't have a flip phone. I had already installed the app, so that wasn't an issue for me. My issue is that when I went to check in on the app, it says I didn't have an order ready for pickup. Turns out you can't tell them you are there until they get around to shopping your order. You ar to wait until you receive a text saying THEY are ready. Good to know who they prioritize. When we finally got the order 50 minutes late, we were told they were understaffed. How about a heads up that you're running behind? Nah, BJs don't care. Would be a nice service, if it worked. read more

I get all my paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, kleenex, etc) here as well as stuff like shampoo, laundry detergent and other things that don't go bad and you know you'll use up. It definitely helps sometimes to pay close attention to the prices, they're not always better. But for the convienience of getting things in bulk and reducing my over all number of shopping trips, count me in. read more

I'm giving them one star today because it took so long for them to check us out at the registers. Today is Tuesday the day after Labor Day and they only had one real live person at the register open. The other 10 registers were self-serve and I could not use it for certain reasons today. I wish management would pay attention to this review because people that have checks are other questions they need a real person to assist customers are as they are checking out. Two customers behind me were very upset because of the same reason but because this is a club where you have to pay upwards to $40 a year and then only to have to stand in line with five large carts of people SIMPLY is not right. My suggestion is to get rid of half the self-serve registers and put in real people again this is a big disservice to the people that pay $40 a year membership fees. It's bad enough that there are no BJ's representatives walking around on the sales floor to assist customers but I have gotten used to it over the last 20 years. read more

I love BJ's and it's my family's primary grocery store. You save a ton of money on bulk items, get cash back rewards, cheap gas and amazing store brands. We focus on the Wellesley Farms brands. At times they are superior than the name brand option and a heck of a lot cheaper. Here's a quick tip, go to the deli first, get your number and shop around this area. The wait is incredibly long. The first weekend of the month is tough. I spoke to the store manager and he let me know it's their busiest and the selection can be picked over. Buy a membership with rewards. We get cash back every so often. Try and get gas here. It is often 20 cents cheaper per gallon. I'll continue my membership for years to come. read more

It's a home run buying in bulk every day products that 2 teenage boys go through. It a nice option to have a members discounted gas station on site. Our membership pays for itself with their cash back rewards program . With the recent closing of a similar whole sale club I've noticed a rise in membership. I recently joined BJ's so that i could stay safe during this pandemic and shop from home. Not what i expected at all... 99% of the items i ordered on line either had to be replaced with something else available or canceled as it was out of stock! BIG WASTE of $25. Why are they selling a service that is SO terrible. The costs involved are also ridiculous. I spent $115 but in the end it cost me $153.74 so $40 for all their fees!!!! Don't waste your time ordering tires here. I placed an online order for tires on February 23rd and was told the tires are available next day and scheduled installation in March. The online order stated that my account wouldn't be charged until it was completed. The charge appeared on my credit card the day after I placed the order. When I went to have the tires installed I was told they did not have them. I never received a call or email and wasted Saturday afternoon planning on having the tires installed. Very good prices. I buy the store brand paper products and am very happy with them. Always great coupons on detergents and fabric softeners. They have the best berry prices around and also low prices on meats like lamb and buffalo. The blueberry muffins are fantastic too. I have two complaints. The gas lines back up a lot, which I get. But the tanks are very, very slow when both sides of the pump are in use. The other complaint is some of the receipt checkers actually stand there and check everything. So that line backs up too. A review of today's visit to BJs Tire Center... I've been going back and forth between giving my recent visit 1 or 2 stars. Decided on 1 as I'm just completely weirded out by my experience today... I walk into the tire center and ask about tires for my FIAT, giving the associate my size. His response, "We don't have anything in that size." I reply, "Your website indicates that you have..." He says, "nope, not true." I show said associate my iPhone where the tires are clearly shown as in stock. Associate responds, "that's not correct. Sorry. Here's what you do..." Associate then writes down an 800# on a piece of paper for Tire Rack. He tells me that I have to inform them I'm in CT and want to pick the tires up in Windsor, the location of their New England warehouse. He then writes down his home phone number and tells me to call him and he'll install them for me. Um, hold on a second...you just told me to go elsewhere, buy a product you clearly sell, and have you install them in your backyard...off the books...with no warranty or guarantee of workmanship or safety? And I'm not even sure you wrote your real name down on the paper as you had no name tag? Best part...the tires I wanted were sitting in a neat pile, right behind him. Four of them. Ready to be put on my car. When I pointed them out, he told me they weren't for sale and refused to discuss the subject anymore, taking his next customer. You have not a prayer of getting me to call you, Mr. Sketchy BJs Tire Associate. And BJs, you don't have a prayer of getting me to buy tires from you. As a devout member of another wholesale club for the last few years, I have to say I recently converted to BJ's - no shame! Wholesale clubs don't differ much between one another. Ideal for both bargain hunters and small business owners, the wide variety of merchandise and services that are available to consumers is a no-brainer for any-sized family. What really sets BJ's apart though is there level of commitment. Sure the gas is a tad cheaper, and you can find some pretty sweet deals in their tire and optical department - but I would have to say it's the amount of organic/natural produce, fruits, and meats that sold me. I recently got a 60-day free trial, and upon snooping out the place - I was genuinely impressed. They send out a monthly coupon book that comes in handy on everyday household items. The warehouse is generally cleaner and more organized than most and so are the yearly member-dues. Self-checkout lanes available, for those days you just don't want to interact with anyone. They have 2 lots so parking is never an issue. I do really well at shopping at odd hours, but have to agree that weeknights and weekends can get quite busy. A shot above the rest, I'm hopeful that they can continue providing natural, healthy and an organic selection. read more

There are a couple of bright spots at the BJ's in Manchester. Mostly it is dark spots. For a store that charges you money for the honor or shopping there they are terrible with customers and the experience. I might even say hostile. The optical department, if you work with the right person is a great place. Can't beat the deal on kids glasses. Gas can be a good price, if you don't mind waiting in a line 3 or more cars deep. But it goes down hill from there. They stack the carts so you can't get in or out, and the doors and displays too small and crowded to accommodate the shoppers getting in or out when you can get around the shopping carts. They will invariably be out of stock of many items on your list. You have to check dates on everything. The mobile app with their coupons, hit or miss if the saved coupons load at the register. Don't ask a question the staff is guaranteed to not know an answer and usually won't be found. I can think of lots of things I would rather do than shop at BJ's in Manchester. Since I am a regular at BJ's, and have been for the last few years, its about time I give a little more information about shopping here. A lot of people say they aren't members of warehouse clubs for the following reasons: 1. There are only 2 of us, why would I need to buy anything in bulk 2. I don't eat processed or frozen food. Well, there are only 3 people in my household and we don't go to BJ's for processed or frozen food. I will only buy items like toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, toiletries at BJ's for a multitude of reasons. First of all, BJ's sends out coupon books at least monthly. On top of the BJ's coupons, you can pair a manufacturer's coupon for each item in the multipack if it can be sold separately. For example, if you buy a 3 pack of toothpaste, you can use 4 coupons. This policy is taken straight from the website and confirmed with the corporate office. I have noticed some cashiers don't understand this policy, but others will take whatever coupons I give them, but its worth talking to a manager about, since they are wrong if they don't stick by the policy on THEIR OWN WEBSITE! Additionally, there are certain products that BJ's offers at prices that are significantly cheaper than the grocery store. For example, currently milk is $2.29. Tell me where I can find milk that cheap anywhere else in the state and I will probably call you a liar! Also, eggs, deli meat, cheese can be found at great prices. The only downside of this club is the front end is usually incredibly short staffed. I try to go during the week to avoid crowds (also avoid first of the month, you'll thank me later), but often times since they are expecting less customers, they have barely any cashiers on. There are plenty of self-checkout aisles, but that can be a pain to do alone. Overall, I highly recommend BJ's. By using coupons and shopping smart, you can't go wrong! read more

This review is solely for their deli. My boyfriend and I both got very ill from the D&W Sriracha Chicken Breast we got at BJs on 11/5. Definitely was not expecting to be sick for 5 hours with hot lava spewing from one end and the feeling of being stabbed in the gut repeatedly. Thankfully we only ate a couple slices! I also had to look away as the deli person was handling our items (she kept wiping her face and clothes with gloved hands, then handling the food). A week later we got the exact brand of meat at another grocery store and didn't get sick. This was our first time here and won't be returning so are glad we have a free membership. I like BJs. They're convenient and have a lot of stores in the area, which is good. The quality is pretty okay. As another reviewer said there can be irregularities or inconsistencies in quality. I give BJs four stars because I am also a Costco member and Costco gets the 5 star rating from me every time. Here's why: 1.FIRST and foremost - CUSTOMER SERVICE. At Costco, anything you buy, online or in store is returnable. Twenty years later, if you have the stones to take it back, they'll take it. The customer service people will tell you funny stories about some of the things people roll in for return. And they take it! I think they've modified that policy somewhat with electronics, but all other items are always returnable. BJs, not so much. Thirty days, maybe sixty, whatever...there's a limit. So if you buy a small appliance, like an iron and it stops working after their time limit, you're on your own. No soup for you! 2. They need better quality of everything. Sometimes BJs is as good as the big C, but often they sell lesser quality. The appliances can be a little out of date. Compare the two stores and you'll see the difference. This goes for fresh food like meats. Costco definitely has the edge. At BJs the meats are definitely a lower grade. Or not as fresh. There is a lot of prepackaged meat, which I don't care for. The produce is grossly overpriced. But they are always pretty fresh, which is a big plus. 3. The garage/propane staff can be surly. One guy whose name I'd mention but I don't know it., can be especially rude. God forbid you stupidly bring an empty propane tank into the store where they have the sign. Very rude. VERY. POSITIVES: Customer Service People are for the most part lovely. Not all of them, unfortunately, but most. And the managers are always super friendly and helpful. If you catch one and you'd like a substitute or have an irregular or last item, they'll mark it down for you on the spot. Decent quality. Reliable. Local. Great hours. Nice people working there, just not enough of them. The fresh deli is EXCELLENT. The people who work there bend over backwards to slice everything according to how you like it. If you have a coupon, and with BJs you'll always have a coupon, if they can't honor it, they'll extend it and they'll even make a deal with you with another item. So they're very customer friendly and agreeable. The managers are excellent and so are the customer service people. The store is always clean. They are fastidious about temperatures of their freezers and refrigerators. During the Oct '11 storm that wiped out CT for nearly a month, we were there right after the blackout before they closed for the night. They were the only store open. Before BJs had their generators going, they were cordoning off the freezer/refrig area and covering the cases or packing them with insulation. ALL the staff were in the back working to keep it cold and/or frozen until they could get it going again or (we were told) they were going to dump everything. Maybe this is commonplace, but I've never seen an entire store's staff working like that - managers and floor people. It was like a colony of ants and reassuring to see. Their gas prices are good - not fantastic, but low...still not so low that they beat all the local stations. We have two stations that meet their price, and Costco is always at least ten cents less per gallon. Now compared to Sam's, the other local big box store, BJs is like the Taj Mahal of stores Sams is a dirty crazy poorly lit dump. CRAZY bad parking lot, fruit flies everywhere, smelly, messy, sloppy. Great place for diapers! I find their food items expire way too quickly. I stopped buying food from BJs because they expire quicker than stuff from the grocery store and since it's by bulk, we could never eat it all before its early expiration date. I love that you can use two manufacturer coupons and one BJs coupon for each item. The BJs coupons also are accepted 7 days before they begin and 7 days after their expiration date. I've been coming to BJ's for years mainly since I have two toddlers and one on the way. For quality diapers for a reasonable price this is the only place I come to. They have a large selection of pampers and formula, more than any other wholesale stores. One of the largest food, fruit and veggie selection. Everything I need for the house from swiffer pads to good laundry detergent brands are all here and occasionally I find better brands of callaway golf shirts or Perry Ellis dress pants for my husband. The frozen food selection is really good, quality burger meet, large cheese and dairy selection. When in season this store has a very good selection of outdoor furniture for a 1000$ or less for sets. Most importantly a large selection of KCups bulk because let's face it I'm a mom which automatically makes me a coffee addict. It's a fairly clean and mainly organized store. Location is perfect 2 traffic lights away from the highway 84/384/290 There is ample amount of parking, the cheapest gas in the area and if you are planning a party there is a liqueur store in the plaza. I stay right across this BJ's. For me when it comes to BJ's shopping, I visit quiet often for Gas. Gas prices here are always comparative less any day. Since our family is only of two we dont end up shopping frequently here. However I must say few daily basic stuffs are really worth buying here. Say like toilet paper, kitchen rolls, milk, eggs, breads. Buying few stuffs with coupons offered is quiet cheap when compared to the retail stores, say like walmart or so..... I love their cake selection too. Tiramisu is my die for cake. We pick up large birthday cakes too for parties. BJs can get very crowded especially during weeknights. Also, not many staff are around to help if you need assistance or have a question. If you get gas here, it's nice, because it's usually at least .20 cents or more of a difference in price with regard to other locations. However, they're pumps have a BJs membership card barcode scan verification, then you do your card, then you select debit or credit, then yes or no for receipt, then you're approved and after you've finished your lunch while waiting it's approved and you select your gas choice then pump. Now here is where the time literally almost stands still. It pumps slower than a peanut better dispenser or so it seems! They typically have the free air pump to check your tires when it's working of course! Also if you're having issues w getting a receipt because the printer at the gas pump is out of paper just text yourself the amount or better yet take a pic of the screen. read more

I witnessed them again rolling their eyes, sighing loudly and outright giving two other customers an attitude. Just my Opinion ... My true to life findings. When trying to stay on budget I have used some local services. BJ.. ONLINE order and pick JOKE Slow .....wrong MAJOR fail!!! You can not order fresh fruit or veggies nor Freezer food. They all more then slow. I ordered 14 items not only did they get it wrong it took 38 min to get it. You must stand in line Give your name and wait for them to go get the groceries and bring them up from. Faster to do it yourself. NOT at all a time saver. I did get a $20.
