Vanessa at customer service is amazing! When we first arrived, she processed our new member cards super efficiently and with a cheerful attitude, which happens so rarely these days. After shopping for a while, my 91 year old mother felt weak and faint. Vanessa came to the rescue with water and a granola bar, and made sure we were all set by staying with her while I checked out our cart. This review is based strictly on the gas station. Need gas? Think you can save money by going to this gas station? Do you value your time? If so- do NOT go to this gas station. The rules for this gas station are ridiculous strict- reminiscent of COVID rules (although those made sense and were to keep people safe). The rules here are because of megalomaniacs- both the gas station manager and the town of Stoneham. First of all, numerous pumps are open (if your gas tank is located on the left side of the car- you're in luck). However they don't have the extra long hoses that are normal at most BJs. The kid working said it was because of the town of Stoneham. Second, all pumps are unidirectional. So even if there are five empty pumps and a line of 15 cars- too bad, so sad. You're out of luck. One car got confused about where to go and started to back in to a pump. The supervisor came out yelling, waving his hands, and made them turn around and get in the right line. Third, only two cars are allowed to be in line at a pump at a time. As a result, the line extends through the parking lot. Overall, I do not recommend this gas station. read more

I like this little (for a wholesale club) place. The prices seem very competitive with Costco and Sam's Club. I've enjoyed the products from Wellesley Farms and Berkley Jensen (BJ's storebrands). Their chocolate chip cookies are amazing. However, you will most likely be on your own as help, if you need it, can be a while. The membership fee can be knocked down to half price if you wait for a promo so I do think it's worth it. I haven't tried to get gas here - the lines have been too long! The line does seem to move though and the gas is fairly priced (with options to knock down pricing via their sales/points system). The staff is mostly friendly if not dialing it in. We've left with multiple items only to need to come back because a security tag was not removed at the register. read more

When your order is cancelled or you return something you DO NOT receive an immediate credit like other retail outlets. BJ's makes you wait 5-7 business days for the money to go back into your account. If you buy an expensive item and return it you will be out your cash for 5-7 business days (10 calendar days) and that is wrong on so many levels. As with all other businesses this place is punishing customers with sky rocketing prices. Most products have increased significantly. So many items have come close to a 50% increase. Items are still not in stock. I go here only when necessary because it's just unaffordable. The coupons are skimpy too and usually for items irrelevant to me. Paper towels were $15 now they're $18. Waffles were $12 and now $17. Dog bones were $16 and now $23. Steal tips doubled in price. Couldn't find a package for under $43 tonight. I could go on and on. I shop at the Stoneham and Medford stores and I like Stoneham a lot better because they have more shelf space and some items that the Medford store doesn't. I've never had a problem with any of the employees and my only gripe with both stores is not having enough cashiers. As a manager, if I saw a line backed up, I would immediately open up another line to keep things moving. Unfortunately, both stores don't do that even if the line is 20 carts deep. I often spend more than what I plan on spending due to the RBX and Berkley Jensen apparel lines that they sell, but overall, my experiences are pretty good. read more

I just returned from BJ's and again it's gotten worse. I'm in a wheelchair and self sufficient but they put these crash bars I guess which were put to far away from the freezers and refrigerators. I can't reach anything I wanted without flipping it down with my armrest. They also showed food online but it wasn't there and no associates could find them. Finally they got new carts that are to large (high) to get my grocery's out. Their solution ask for help when I go in! I don't think so, I'm 72 yrs old and still independent. The new way the gas station is set up is ridiculous. Because we have to wait for the pump for our designated side, there's always a long line that's not only inconvenient for the people waiting to pump gas but for the other cars in the parking lot. If we were allowed to turn the car in the opposite direction to pump gas everything would go smoother and have a shorter waiting time. Every time I go to pump gas there's always at least 3 pumps vacant, available to use, but a huge line of cars behind us. Some changes are for the worst and this is one of them. read more

I recently purchased a package of 100 paper plates at BJ's in Portsmouth, NH at a price of $ 20.49, which is beyond outrageous! BJ's, like many other businesses, are using inflation as a cover to jack up prices. Their claim of huge savings at their shops is a total sham! I'm afraid of this place, not gonna lie here. I'm terrified at the thought of going to BJ's, there's just too much going on for me to concentrate. That's the draw of it, it's sickening. It's not only the name that makes me laugh but the concept of it concerns me. It's great for a family or bulk items, the snack area is nice because instead of buying a small bag of say Pirates Booty at Stop and Shop for 3.99, you get 4x that amount for like $5 so that is a plus. A lot of the other stuff is just excessive besides things like paper goods, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, etc. Some other items it just doesn't make sense to purchase in a small household, in my opinion. The customer service is pretty spot on, when I have questions on locations of things or I have trouble with something and I've received help right away with it. I always find myself lost and just pursuing along the aisle saying something along the lines of 'Oh yeah that, no no oh yeah, I want that, for what? Why do I need this, I don't. I do. No..' might be in my head, might be said out loud. They have the Wine Cellar inside, that's a whole bunch of booze. I have to admit, although the thought of coming here freaks me out, Saturdays they have an alcohol vendor and they offer food around the store so it's like a good little meal they have going on. read more

Terrible experience tonight. Went at 8:30 pm to pick up formula for a 2 week old baby, and they closed early unannounced "for inventory". I've worked in retail myself, and we always did inventory at a more appropriate time like Sunday evening when you should close early anyway, or overnight when you don't inconvenience customers. The fact that I needed an important item, combined with the fact that this place CHARGES for membership made this completely intolerable and unprofessional to me. Came for gas. (Who on earth changed all the bjs wholesale clubs in yelp to Bjs optical???) It was hard to get to from 93 north. The parking lot was really wonky - only 1 car at a time could get in for gas. So even though half of the pumps for passenger side gas were available, we couldn't access them since the guy in front of us was driver side gas tank. And all those pumps were occupied. Prices were not cheap. At least by metrowest standards. I pay the same price at my local gas station. read more

Been a long time member. Ordered some tires, checked 2 times if they were in, the second time was in the store, the gent (MGR) said they were on their dock, so we made an appt for the next day. Being a military, details, schedule, respect for time ect.. guy, I asked if he could physically check that they are here on the dock. He insisted that if the computer says there are here, then good. I arrive the next day at appt time. The MGR (same gent) is being rude to every customer that comes in (I felt like I was back in basic training), he tells me he must go get my tires. I am thinking why are thy not in the shop by my appt time. He comes back (45 mins into my appt time), "they are not here" (no apology). I respectfully remined him that I asked him to physically check yesterday. He then digressed and went off on me for some time that ended with him telling me to "go Fxxk myself" (In front of customers and other staff) I kept my composure, never swore or abused him verbally. I made my complaint to the service desk MGR, He is still working there! Corporate won't take my complaint! Do the math! I cancelled all of my BJs cards to include the MC. I've gone to bj's for many years. My first time at the stoneham Bj's was very disappointing . as a customer, what i witnessed was repelling. a worker, "Ashley", was talking to her coworker. the profane tone she used was shocking. Her coworker asked her a question and Ashley answered as if she was bothered to help her out. As a customer that makes me feel extremely distressed. Is this how BJ's treats their employees? That experience was very unsettling, and made me feel like if i asked Ashley for help she would be bothered. Especially during COVID-19, employees should be treated with respect and cordiality. Being treated that way is substandard but infront of customers to???? seriously!!??? I've read other reviews about Ashley, not sure if it's the same one, but Bj's better look into this. I ordered a cake for my sons birthday party. Two tiered cake Sesame Street themed. When I picked up the cake it was not at all what I expected or thought I ordered. (My sister picked it up and sent me pictures) I called the store upset, basically crying and frantic. At that moment I honestly felt like I failed my sons party by ordering this and that I was stuck with it. Not that I meant too, but I definitely was one of those customers you just don't want to deal with when something goes not as planned. I wanted to write this review specifically with the Bakery manager in mind. Unfortunately I don't remember her name but she was AMAZING. While I'm talking fifty miles a minute all upset, she was listening. Kindly apologizing and explaining how she would fix it for me. I was maybe a tad rude with an attitude unintentionally as I was just upset about the situation, not directly at her. She continued to reassure me she was going to fix this. For one, somehow, someway (I'm not at all a baker or cake decorator) she transformed my cake from what I felt was a disaster to one of the most beautiful cakes I've ever seen. Two, she gave us a gift card to give us the cake complimentary. And three, she remained calm, kind and made me feel like she cared about me and my feelings. I want to apologize to her for my frantic phone call and I want to also thank her for the amazing compassion she showed me. The free 90-day membership advertised on BJ's facebook page brings me here. Unfortunately, I don't feel welcome when I talk to the Member Services Desk. Our conversation went like: Me: "Hello, I saw your coupon about free membership, and I am wondering if it is valid in this location. " Lady from Member Services Desk took a look on the advertisement on my phone and said: "Did you print it?" Me: "No...I think I can just present this on my phone..." (The advertisement does show - Print this coupon or present it to us on your mobile device at the Member Services Desk. Service Desk Select: Facebook Free) Then I pointed at the words to her. She then looked on my phone again and said: "I KNOW HOW TO READ but I am asking DID YOU PRINT IT?" I felt like why are you asking (I have already shown it on my phone and did what your advertisement asked me to!) but at that moment I just told her: "No I didn't." so I can get the membership without any further conversation with her. After my reply, she borrowed my ID and printed my trial membership card. As for the items in the store, it actually has more varieties than Costco or Sam's Club. They have more different types toothpaste, body lotion, supplements. For the same items in Costco or Sam's Club, I really can't tell which one is absolutely cheaper. It really depends on what you want to buy. I will go back to BJ's again during the trial membership just for its more selections but BJ's Stoneham will never be the option. read more

I'm writing a review for the optical department at this location. I've been putting off getting new glasses for years now, and I finally decided it was time to upgrade my outdated glasses. After being disheartened by what I would have to pay for glasses at my eye doctor's office in Copley Square (partly because my vision is extremely bad so I need special lenses), I decided to check BJ's out (everyone always says to get classes at a wholesale club for the best prices anyway). As soon as I walked in I found a ton of fun, trendy styles that were comparable to the ones I had my heart set on at my eye doctor's. Within minutes, the manager came up to us and asked if we needed help. She had great advice when I couldn't decide on which frames to pick, was super quick in processing the transaction, was very knowledgeable, and did everything she could to bring the price down as far as she could, including trying a 20% coupon that she had. In the end I had two new pairs of glasses that I loved, and was able to take advantage of a buy one get 50% off + 20% off coupon, with a savings of $300 from what I would've paid at the my eye doctor's (and that was only for ONE pair of glasses)! BJ's - bulk at a great price. We have used their optical, and my hubbie, the geek that he is, kinda broke the nose thingie on his glasses (both pair) and just put off getting them fixed. I brought them in, and gave them my information, which they didn't even care about, and they fixed those babies right up and gave me two free cases too. It was awesome, I think they would have fixed them even if I hadn't bought them there. Nice. Staff at BJ's in general are pretty friendly. And if you go at certain times, there are samples to taste. I ordered glasses, they came in and I tried them on and could not read through the reading area(very blurry). I told her I wanted to return them (before I even took them) She was abrasive and told me I could not. Then she asked me for my paperwork, that she could not return them without it. She also told me to take the glasses to the doctor to figure out why they weren't working. I explained that the glasses I was wearing was made off of the same prescription and worked. I also told her I have a surgery coming up, I don't have time to do that. I just needed to order and receive glasses that I could see and read with. She advised she would call her regional Manager. I am waiting, very disappointed as all the other people that work at BJs have been awesome, and customer focused. They just called me back. They are going to refund me. Went in the same day I got my first BJ's membership card. Store was stocked & clean. I shopped & mistakenly used the wrong debit card & realized when I got home. I went back to ask if they could "return" the items so I could rebuy the items & pay with the correct card. Lily at the service desk happily took the time to enter every item individually to return the $ to original card, then typed them all again to charge it to the right card. All the while she was running the desk by herself & the line started growing. She everything quickly and was friendly & pleasant all the while. I commend her for keeping her cool and maintaining her smile the few minutes I bothered her with this tedious task. Got my tires here, installed on new wheels that I had brought in. Took them 2 hours to install, he said he "had some trouble". Got a TPMS error on the drive home; took it to a different BJs, they said it was the wrong sensor in the wheels. OK, that was my bad - but couldn't they have told me that when installing at the BJ's in Stoneham? So, I took the car back to Stoneham, with correct TPMS sensors in hand. They said they were too busy, and could not fit me in that day. OK. We scheduled an appt on Sunday at 3:30pm; this was Easter Sunday, and the store closed at 5pm. Came back at 3:25pm on Sunday, handed over the car, and asked them to change the TPMS sensors. They told me they think the sensors I had were fine. I said I didnt think so, and asked again to change out the TPMS. 45 minutes later... instead of changing out the sensors like I asked, on my 4th visit to BJs to get these tires installed, they "reset" the sensor. I asked why they didnt just do what I asked. He said I should not have come in at 3:30 on Easter. I said I had a scheduled appointment. He shrugged. Of course, on my drive home, the sensor error light came back on. Now I have to take a 5th trip to get this done, because they were too lazy to get it done on the first, or third or fourth attempt. Don't rush to go here after 5pm if you're expecting to have new tires installed. They actually would rather turn away business than install them the same day. They close at 8pm. The assistant manager had "somewhere to go early" I was told and wouldn't be able to install them. We visited this BJ's recently as we signed up for their promotion. It's a warehouse store with a good selection of items but somehow, we still ended up buying less items here than that other popular warehouse store. Fortunately, I really do like the frozen bulk chicken wings (with no sauce) that they sell here and would be willing to visit here just for that. read more

Beware of Mr. Attitude at the Tire Center! If you're female and you come in by yourself (as others have indicated in Yelp reviews) you will have a hard time, if your luck has Mr. Attitude at the desk! Your questions may not be addressed (how dare you ask any?!), but you'll get plenty of condescension, and as in my case, there may be banging of pens and paperwork on the table if you didn't understand what was being mumbled at you at bullet train speed. You may also get multiple price quotes during the very same visit, as was my experience. Then, you may get charged more than you should, as I was about to...except that someone else rung me up, and told me I didn't have to pay so much! Also, in general, tires may seem better priced at BJs than elsewhere, but many are specific to BJs, so getting the same ones elsewhere down the road (pun intended), can be a challenge or simply impossible. Additionally, the warranty is on the more pathetic side as far as warranties go. With less than 8,000 miles and 17 months after purchase, I was told I would only get back 50%.
