I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience here was bad enough that I feel obligated to warn others. The biggest issue is honesty. I was charged for items that I never ordered or received. For example, I ordered a simple Americano and was charged for cold foam that was never requested and never provided. I strongly encourage everyone to review their receipt carefully before paying because my bill included charges that didn't match what I actually received. I also witnessed behavior toward customers that was completely unacceptable. One customer accidentally clogged the restroom, immediately informed the staff, and apologized. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the customer was mocked and humiliated. I personally heard the owner say, "Wow, the big fat guy took a dump," directly in reference to that customer. There is absolutely no excuse for treating someone with that level of disrespect. On another occasion, I witnessed customers being subjected to racist language. No business should ever make customers feel unwelcome or degraded. I also found it misleading that pastries were advertised as coming from local bakeries when that did not appear to reflect reality. Combined with the significant markup, it left me feeling that customers were being misled about what they were paying for. After everything I experienced--the questionable billing practices, the disrespectful treatment of customers, and the overall lack of professionalism--I cannot recommend this business. There are plenty of local coffee shops that value honesty, integrity, and treating people with basic human decency. I suggest supporting one of them instead like the Tracer waypoint coffee bar. read more

I write this review for the sake of a friend, one who felt the need to quite to avoid the misconceptions and lies found at this location. What I heard from them and other staff has me refusing to give any more money to this place, even though my friend stayed there far longer than they should have. Here is a list of what has been reported to me, by both a friend and their fellow workers. I would hope that this review helps the owner see that changes need to be made behind the counter, as cutting corners will eventually bleed into your customer base. - Money missing from wages, at least +$200 each month (this was every employee I talked too, with pictures showing the time worked, taxes and other known deductions already calculated) - "Sourced coffee" coming from Costco. Playing loosely with the wording of their tag lines feels very untruthful to the customer. - Pastries bought from Food Lion (advertised as another local business). This is terrible, and I hope that Saffron and Grit Bakery know their name is being used as a marketing ploy. - Random charges (cold foam or espresso with no proof of adding it). One day's order had an extra shot I didn't ask for. Tasted the same as previous days. Perhaps an error this time, but have it from multiple sources they are told to either skip steps to save product or just add the additional to a receipt to jump the price up. - The owner has been reported multiple times to have said the n-word when describing African Americans. I heard it once being said, but did not know the owner's voice well enough to claim it was her. However, there was no reprimand following the use of the word, so I worry it must have been management of some level. Again, this review is meant for the owners eyes, to show that something must be done at the base of this establishment, before this rot spreads. read more

I came here on a whim looking for an atmosphere that was "read and relax ready", Blūm gave much more. The owner was warm and welcoming, the coffee and wine recommendations were what I would've wanted without knowing it. Came to Charleston for the weekend and found this coffee shop walking distance from my hotel. We were immediately greeted by Beverley who has unmatched energy. She was funny, engaging and beyond helpful. She offered a level of customer service that would immediately make me a regular if I lived here. We ordered the Blueberry Cobbler Latte and MoCoconut Latte. Both were really good. The blueberry cobbler latte taste exactly like a blueberry muffin. On our visit we tried out the Passionfruit Matcha. It was refreshing, light and not too sweet. Shout out to Beverley for these amazing drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's plenty of space with beautiful plants everywhere you look. Now that I have been a couple of times, I will finally write a review haha They don't take names or provide numbers for your coffee order, which has not been an issue for me, as it wasn't crazy crowded when I've stopped in for late afternoon caffeine pick-me-ups! They don't have a huge list of flavors, but my most recent order was an iced salted caramel latte. I'm a fan. The previous time I was provided a large glass, as it was to enjoy while there, but my most recent visit, I was given a regular plastic, to-go cup. I preferred the glass, but the coffee was still tasty either way. They don't seem to have a ton of food options, but I did buy a brownie once and it was delicious! I just wouldn't plan for a meal here. The other half of the space is the wine/beer bar. I tried a cider during one visit, but I am definitely a coffee over alcohol person, so it's probably going to remain the reason for my visits. This is one of my favorite coffee shops, located further down on Meeting Street. Their space is the biggest in downtown that I've seen, and they offer free parking and Wi‑Fi. If the lot fills up, there's paid parking right across the street on the grassy area. I ordered their matcha latte with oat milk, and it was delicious, more matcha than I usually get at other cafes, which I'm not complaining about. My friends ordered chai, and they said it was the best chai they've ever had. I'll have to come back later in the day for their wine bar. Service was great, and the baristas remembered me since I've been there many times. The space is generally quiet, with people wearing headphones and working on their laptops. read more

4 stars because parking spaces designated to Blum are limited. I asked if it was ok that I parked in an unmarked spot and the barista said "They don't typically tow until after closing". So, let's hope for the best?! Love that you can bring your own cup and receive a discount and there is ample space to work for a while. The Chai latte was good. On the sweeter side. The wine cooler by the bathroom is noisy, so I'd sit on the other side if you want to avoid the noise of it kicking on and off while you are there. read more

Phoebe, the barista, went out of her way to talk about the space and their pastries with me (the blueberry muffin was the perfect rec), while also graciously attending to the residents coming in for their morning cup before heading out for the day. The service is great, I've been twice now and loved both baristas. My issue is that the wifi never seems to be working properly--this could be a me issue, but it's happened twice, so I'm not sure. I had a pistachio latte, and, to be blunt, it is not the best in the city, especially for the price (about a dollar more than my fave in the city). The atmosphere is great, if the wifi issue wasn't a problem, I would work here on weekends regularly, despite the slight price increase in coffee. read more

I had a meeting coming up and had recently heard about Blūm so I set it up to meet there. I love when a place has plenty of room for meetings, a great location, and has parking too. Blūm checks all of these boxes! Right away I loved the interior. You'll immediately notice how big the place is and has two sides with a divider in the middle. There are tons of tables and plenty of seating and a big wooden bar with beer and wine for the evenings. I scoped the place out before ordering and asked about the food because all I saw at first was a refrigerator at the end of the counter with a few premade sandwiches, bottled drinks like kombucha, and a couple other random packaged items. When I inquired they let me know they also had some baked goods in the case up front, but without a kitchen they were limited to what was available. They are outsourcing the food from elsewhere. The case had four types of muffins and a plain croissant which all seemed boring. In a pinch for a bit to eat I opted for a container of chicken salad out of the fridge. It wasn't exactly breakfast, but it worked. We both ordered mocha lattes with out choice of milk and they brought it out to our table when it was ready. The drinks were great and while I enjoyed my chicken salad, I was disappointed with the food options. There are other places in the same situation who have amazing food selections so hopefully they can remedy that because it could quickly become a favorite for quick meetings or getting out of the home office for a couple hours. read more

Stopped in a couple times on a recent trip here - great, large space with lots of natural light. It's both a coffee shop and wine bar. They have few options for food which is my main gripe as there isn't much nearby either. But it's a great spot for remote working, lots of space and outlets, different types of seats, calm inside, free wifi. The coffee was decent, went with flavored lattes so couldn't really taste the quality of the espresso, but the drinks overall were ok. The flavors come from a variety of Monin syrups, easy standard. The perfect place to get work done! I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty and quiet. Honestly, this was not a bad sign to me because I like having the space and quiet atmosphere. I easily spent a little over 2 hours here because it was so peaceful. Although this coffee shop has few food options, this place also serves wine and beer with a full bar in the back. I ordered the cold foam with honey added to it. Loved the generous amounts of foam. This place is very unique for Downtown Charleston. They serve coffee plus they are a wine and beer bar! The space is open and has a lot of different seating so it would work well for a remote worker, meetings, or just enjoying a drink. The other huge perk is the large FREE parking lot just out front. My go to drink at the morning bar is an iced matcha with chai-- hold the ginger. The ingredients taste super fresh and aren't overly sweet, which is important for me. The evening bar is also a cute spot with tons of seating as well. I trust Sydney to help me choose my drinks and she is always spot on. Oh and did I mention you can bring your DOG!!! Really loved working from this place! It was a short walk from my house which was nice. Happened to come on a Tuesday and order a cold brew so it was actually only $2 - a great surprise! Coffee was tasty. I didn't see many food options but I also didn't come for food so I was fine with it. The barista making my coffee was nice. There are plenty of tables and seating to choose from and all were spaced out so you weren't bumping into others or talking over others while working. What I loved the most about this spot was that it was quiet. Everyone was mindful of others if they were talking or in a meeting. The music was at a perfect level, not too loud. Bathrooms could have been a little cleaner but they weren't terrible. I also saw this place does fun events throughout the month so I'll definitely be back to check those out. read more
