From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of community. The staff was familiar with many of the customers and that says something about a business. I came in to get some pages done on a script I am pitching. But my visit turned into an amazing conversation with two regulars and his teenage son. We talked as if we were childhood friends the owner also joined in on our conversation. As an entrepreneur of color I intentionally seek out black-owned business to support. Being an entrepreneur since my teens I know what it means to have the support of your own community. The decor is a cozy chic full of charm and coolness. The prices are affordable and won't break your pockets if you are brunching with a group. I had the waffles. Another thing.that inspired me about my visit here. Was a mixed crowd of races genders and ages. The space is suitable for all and the vibe there is everyone is welcomed. Out of town and passing through looking for a good spot for a late breakfast and found this place. Such amazing food and service! If you're a music fan you'll love the inside of the place too! We ordered avocado toast topped with sunny side egg and it was perfect. The chicken wings and waffles was another hit with the family. Eggs and home fries were delicious too and the coffee was amazing as well. They even had almond milk to go with it. My partner and I recently had brunch at the establishment after visiting Storm King Art Center. We were delighted to discover this quint inconspicuous cafe. The customer service is top notch. Before I get into what a landmark venue this is, not to mention how it meets my high standards of espresso and ambiance while bringing the flavor of Northern Manhattan to Southern Newburgh, I have to speak of the irony, miscues and outright hilarity associated with my finally coming in contact with Blacc Vanilla. Okay, so, I was told to go here by a barista at Starbucks, and as if that wasn't the kicker, I still didn't go! But wait, it gets better... It turns out I drive by it every single day, TWICE, and have never seen it. Then I find out about it and, it turns out, everyone apparently knew about it but me! Why didn't anybody say something? Oh... wait... what? Once I had a friend ask to meet there, I began, as I usually do when I am influenced positively by a place, talking about it to everyone I know, each time my advance met with "oh, yeah, I LOVE that place" making me feel progressively less like an observant human being and more of an aloof, clueless introvert. But who cares. I mean, it's amazing espresso and atmosphere, right? Okay. I don't know the exact spot, but somewhere North of 125th St in Harlem, in the vicinity of Lenox and Adam Clayton Powell, I attended a coffee house of which I find Blacc Vanilla quite reminiscent. I really feel like I am stepping into a city joint. It's sort of a combination of Harlem, the West Village and Soho all rolled into one. The staff are warm, friendly, attentive, TALKATIVE and accommodating, and go to the utmost lengths not only to serve you, but to make you feel like you belong there. It is beyond welcoming. As a decaf drinker (yeah, yeah, I know, I know, blah, blah, blah, I'm an outcast, yada, yada) I am very selective about what espressos I drink. Slam dunk on BV's decaf espresso roast and on my top 3 list of favs without even batting an eye. From my first visit. I can't find a single thing to complain about, and the only disappointment is when Monday rolls around, as it is the only day of the week they are closed, the day when you need coffee the most! Just knowing they are open 7-5, 6 days including Saturday and Sunday, however, is a reason to overlook it. This means I can even partake on the weekend. Though I do hope to see them acquire a "Monday-Only" staff to come in and pick up the slack for us Monday slackers. But, for now, I get it and believe you all deserve a duly-earned day off! For now I will be attending twice per day, 6 days for my daily coffee and even breakfast. Did I mention they have breakfast and lunch food too? I posted some pictures so check them out and look online and all, but do yourself a favor and GO THERE. It is so convenient, even on your way to the waterfront, on South St, just a half mile shy of the water. Blacc Vanilla gets my vote for best coffee and best spot in the HV to get that "cultural NYC feel" where you forget where you are, but in a good way. Keep up the stellar work, BV, I got you. Blacc Vanilla is the real deal! Super friendly and helpful staff, amazing coffee, and a fantastic place to hang out. The soup always comes with a biscuit, and I have yet to have a mediocre soup from this place. The sandwiches are also really great - they make a fantastic grilled cheese. Everything is made to order so you can customize it. I haven't had any of the baked goods, but have picked them up for coworkers and they have always enjoyed them. I love how involved with the local community Blacc Vanilla is; they even have a foundation set up that does so many wonderful things for the area. Every single time that I have been in Blacc Vanilla the staff has been incredibly friendly. Jasmine has a gorgeous voice. And a nice mixture of newburgh locals and what I call the new settlers, because its a place that i believe shows that gentrification is about to change this great part of town. I visited again and had their breakfast sandwich again. This time I took time to savor it and the scrambled egg was so tender and the biscuit was so flaky. The turkey sausage is homemade and was a generous amount. The coffee was nice and smooth, and the owner even gave me a 2nd cup for free. I was there to read articles and noticed how customers were interacting and engaging each other. I actually met someone and we discovered we had common interests in education, diversity and social justice. This is such a great place for connection, community and truly delicious food. This is a cute little café in the heart of the city of Newburgh. The food was good. I had chicken and waffles and my husband had the shrimp and grits and they were both delicious. The coffee was good and the service was pretty good. They don't have a wait staff per se it's kind of casual where, I guess the owner, does business from the counter. You have to walk up to the counter to order. It's kind of weird but it works. Will definitely be going back here. You won't be disappointed. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because when you walk in you're not greeted. Even if the owner yelled out Welcome! Sit wherever you want!! It would be better than no greeting at all.
