The Sangria Cafe is quite a place and has excellent service. I had my mind set on ordering nonfortified red sangria, but discovered they only have brandy or other liquor infused sangria they make in small batches. You cannot order a fresh carafe or pitcher of sangria with the fruit in it here, which is what I was expecting from a place headlining sangria. So your experience of the Sangria Cafe for sangria will come down to whether you like yours fortified. I like my sangria freshly made to order with just the wine and chopped fruit, but you may have a better experience at Sangria Cafe if you prefer fortified sangria. So the Manager, Elios, was superb. He told me he would let me taste the red, white and lychee versions to see which one I preferred. Given they are all fortified to an extent, I chose to order margaritas. I prefer mezcal margaritas, but they did not have mezcal at the time. So I went with the tequila classic. It was good and I had it to go for my evening at a cigar lounge. I also ordered food to go: the French cut pork chops with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and the braised beef short rib with small potatoes and broccoli. Here's a twist: the food was better than the adult beverage at a place emphasizing the latter. At all times, my server, Hector, was superb in his own right. Service is probably the strong suit at Sangria Cafe, followed by the food. The French cut pork chops taste like they have been marinated or at least brined. You will eat these down to the bone and you will pick up those bones to clean them. The garlic mashed potatoes were great too, but the asparagus was a bit overcooked. On balance, this $30 dish was satisfying and would have been better had they included a little gravy on the side for the mashed potatoes. The beef short rib at $38 was even tastier. I appreciate the chef took the time to get a good cut of short rib and trimmed the excess fat down to a leaner cut. The meat is inherently marbled with fat, so the flavor is already going to be as present as the savory tenderness. If you dine at a restaurant where there is excess fat on the beef short rib, know the chef there is not putting in the work to trim all that fat. Coudos to the chefs in the Sangria Cafe kitchen for their trimming work. This is even better than the pork chops and you'll savor every bite. The broccoli was overcooked here, so the chefs could restrain themselves on the cooking time for the veggies. The small potatoes were perfect and what is not to like about marbled beef and potatoes. Here they have a little gravy with cooked onions to add to the savory pleasure. The Sangria Cafe is a great place to come with friends. This place will see lots of action as the weather warms. The atmosphere is upbeat and the music is in full swing. This is a Latino and Afro Latino crowd. The kitchen and service are very good here. Perhaps I'm in the minority preferring nonfortified sangria, but I wish that were an option with the chopped fruit in it. Perhaps the majority prefers the fortified hit, but it would be nice to have it more relaxed with just the wine as summer approaches or at any time of the year. I got a passion fruit sangria, chicharron de pollo, and loaded nachos. The passion fruit sangria was really good! I would definitely recommend that and order it again. The nachos have potential but they were cold. The meat was cold and the cheese was already hardened when they brought it out. It seemed as though this was sitting in the kitchen for a while before being brought out. More jalapeños can be added to the dish. It is big enough to share with someone else. The chicharron de pollo was good but you could taste the oil throughout. After a while, it was too much of an oil taste for me. The yuca fries tasted mainly like oil. I did not enjoy them and I would not order them again. I plan to give this spot another try but I will most likely stay away from ordering the fried items next time. Cool neighborhood sports bar in Co-op City. Usually I wouldn't travel that far out for a bar but a friend of mine invited me cause she was hosting an event and wanted to support her. I will say it was worth it as the bartender that was serving me was hella cool and made my drinks a nice blend of sweet and strong as I got a frozen margarita and another drink that I can't remember at the moment and an order of empanadas. Those combos go together so well. Anyway, cool spot to come through to watch some sports games, hang out with some buddies or just a cool date night when its not crowded. This was my second time dining at Sangria. The first time while pregnant and the second time 2 months postpartum. Both times, I ordered the shrimp scampi and my husband the lomo saltado. My first experience was phenomenal because the food tasted amazing! The flavor profile was perfect, which is why we ordered the same food, although the menu offers plenty of options. However, the food did NOT taste good the second time around. It lacked seasoning, which is why I did not rate it 5 stars. There may be a lack of consistency. Sangria Flight - it was nice to have the option to taste multiple flavors. I ordered the passion fruit, mango, coconut, and tamarindo. My favorite were the mango and coconut sangria. The pork chunks (chicharron) was delicious and a must order to share. My son had mozzarella and fries, he enjoyed it. The staff are always amazing and make you feel important. The waitress was sweet and service was okay, but the food was just mediocre--not worth the wait, especially considering the restaurant wasn't that busy. But the worst part of the experience was the manager--I believe his name was Javier or Hector. Middle-aged, glasses, short dark hair. He was hands down the most disrespectful and unprofessional manager I've ever encountered. After paying (card) and tipping in cash, we stepped outside to take some pictures and enjoy the moment. A few minutes later, we were literally chased down the street by security, who told us we forgot to sign the receipt. No problem--we turned around to do it. What happened next was unbelievable. The manager storms over, attitude blazing, holding the receipt like a hostage. He demands ID, which is shown, but then starts grabbing for it. She tells him not to touch her--he can clearly see the name matches. Even the security guard confirms the name. Not enough for him. Now he wants to see the card again, and tries to grab that too. Again, told not to touch it. This entire exchange was so unnecessarily aggressive, rude, and over the top for something that could've been solved in 30 seconds. After she finally signs, he snatches the book out of her hand so hard he nearly falls over. It was bizarre. No apology, no professionalism--just full-blown attitude and temper tantrums. This is not how you treat guests. If this is the person running the place, I can't recommend it. There are too many other restaurants that respect their customers. Do better. read more

Overall Experience A few of us ladies went to the Sangria Cafe on a Wednesday evening shortly before the end of Happy Hour and we really had a GREAT TIME!!! The Food The food was delicious. I recommend the ribeye steak with onion rings, which was fantastic. But everything on our table got rave reviews. That included the ribeye mentioned above, the mofongo with shrimp, the ribeye in Spanish sauce ( don't recall the name), fish and chips, shrimp and French fries. The sangria was also fabulous and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. Moreover, the DJ and our server both announced when Happy Hour was ending, which we appreciated so we could load up on our drinks for half price. Ambiance The ambiance was very festive and the restaurant was roomy and clean and handicap friendly--which is necessary for my friends and me. The lighting was standard and the music was great but right around 8:30 PM the lights went down, the music got turned up significantly and suddenly we were at the club!!! It was freaking fantastic!!! The DJ was playing club music with great expertise and there was dancing in the aisles. It was really a great place to dine and dance. And no one rushed us out. Lastly, I recommend that you go there for your birthday because they really make it special for you. Several servers come out singing to you with a mini billboard with your name on it and sparklers and a complimentary slice of cheesecake. Also the DJ might also give you a shoutout on the microphone. Service The service was very, very good. I don't remember her name but she was very pleasant, thorough, professional and quick. She was great. For an appetizer, I ordered the Hennessy wings and this is a 0/10 for me. Because the wings were the generic fried "wing dings" tossed in a sweet chili and Hennessy mixture. I didn't enjoy those at all. However, the presentation was really nice! They were served on a wood platter with a Hennessy dip on the side. For the main course, I ordered the Latin Style Fried Rice. I didn't even remember that I'd originally written a review, but it's time for an update. I've given Sangria Cafe more than half a dozen chances and it always fails me in the same way. To be open this long and STILL struggle with poor service is INSANE! Customer service has continued to be trash. On this particular visit, a friend and I waited over 10 minutes for a bartender. Not THE bartender who was actively working the bar, but a bartender that showed up LATER. The original bartender spent time flirting with a group of ladies at the bar and continuing to service everyone else sitting there but paid NO ATTENTION to any newcomers sitting at the bar. Not a hi, hello, be right with you, NOTHING. Had my friend and I not spoken up the bartenders attention, we wouldn't have gotten menus. Even after getting his attention to get menus, he proceeded to service everyone who ALREADY HAD DRINKS AND/OR FOOD and still didn't come back to us. Thankfully a second person ended up behind the bar (who also had no intention of addressing us) that we finally asked to place an order. Honestly wouldn't have been surprised if they said no to taking our order because it's like we. were. INVISIBLE. Again, I still have no problem with the food or the drinks. The menu is great...BUT IT HAS BEEN YEARS! WHY IS THE SERVICE STILL SO HORRENDOUS!? It shouldn't take 10 minutes for a bartender to notice new customers walk in and sit down. (This isn't a busy time by the way, it's around 3pm...not the late night party time when the restaurant pretty much becomes a club. There were still empty seats at the bar! There is no reason the service should be THIS BAD when the bar IS NOT FULL). I draw the line when it comes to the check. Now, I'll never go back. A party of TWO sitting at THE BAR had automatic gratuity (18%) added to the check. I can see adding gratuity to a check of 4+ or 5+ people, but TWO PEOPLE!? And then you SUGGEST gratuity at the bottom of the check?! AND put a TIP line when I you run the card!??? Yeah, no thank you. You have poor service and forced gratuity and that makes me think you KNOW your service is poor and will get over on anyone with that automatic gratiuty PLUS the suggestion because people won't notice after they get a few drinks in them. The service sucked today ! I am so disappointed , I went there to have dinner with my significant other we ordered two of the same dishes. When the food arrived it was only one order ! I asked the waiter what happened to the other order and he stated I thought it was one . He said I will put in the other order , so I waited , waited and waited my significant other finished his food and we continued to wait . We were seated right away, and the waiter promptly gave us our menus where we decided to go with the brunch special, which was one appetizer one entrée and unlimited, mimosas, sangrias, or Bellini's all for $39.99 per person with 18%gratuity included. I ordered the empanadas as an appetizer, one beef and one spinach and cheese. They were both really good but the beef empanada was my favorite. To accompany my meal I got a peach Bellini when the food came out the presentation was very nice. Everything was cooked to perfection and flavored rather well. There was a garlic oil sauce on the side, which made the steak taste like heaven but wrecked havoc on my breath lol. I called up my girl, asked her to meet me for dinner and off we went. Sangria is very good. It tasty and yummy and sneaks up on you. The food was also good. For appetizers we had wings and calamari!!
