The Western burger was really good and so were the onion rings. No alcohol beverages were very good as worth the old-fashioneds. Time to hire a new grill cook and butcher. I ordered the 6 oz. Filet Mignon medium rare. They served me a hockey puck on their first attempt. The appearance gave it away before I cut into it that it had been overcooked. The replacement refire is pictured with this review. This is the saddest excuse I have ever seen a restaurant try to pass off as filet Mignon! So misshapen and poorly butchered. The refire was delivered profoundly undercooked this time. Sent back, but still couldn't eat something so unappetizing looking, grizzled, and tough looking. Not even close to being lean and remotely tender. I even mentioned to the manager that delivered the second "steak" on how poorly the "filet" had been butchered and prepared. She didn't even attempt to explain or respond in the least. Nobody could defend such poorly executed food. She knew it and slinked away. No comp, no removal from the bill. I didn't eat it. We boxed it. My mother in law will likely eat it. She wouldn't know what a quality beef (maybe horse) steak is. Appetizers and sides were good as usual. Service from our usual waiter was great as always. Pleasant atmosphere as always. We got the Groupon deal for campfire feast for 2 which was not bad. It came with one appetizer, 2 entrees and one dessert. The Brussels sprouts was very good. Really bad experience!! 1/ They are short in staff, only 1 server for like 5+ tables. We were there at 7:40 or some but it took like 1 hour or more to have appetizers. It took forever for the server to ask us to order and for the food to come. I ordred a medium rare ribeye and it came very rare, like blue rare. Medium rare is 130-140f. This ribeye looked like seared ahi tuna, that's how raw it was in the middle. They offered to redo it and the second steak came, and when it came out, it was medium well. Again, I wanted medium rare. I lied and told them it was fine because I was tired of waiting. Growing up in South San Jose, Black Angus was always an aspirational restaurant for us. I'm happy to say that after 26 years, I got to treat my family to a large meal here! There was a 20 min wait time on a sunday night even with a reservation, which speaks to how much people seem to like it here! The booth we were seated at was cozy, and it felt like we were the only ones in the restaurant due to how well sound isolation is structured inside! I was impressed with the high level of service, the staff here truly do their best. The food was all around like a 7.5/10, but consistently good, and the atmosphere more than made up for it. I wasn't expecting top of the line food anyway, so I was still thoroughly happy with how there wasn't anything we didn't enjoy on the menu. Had dinner here on a Sunday evening with my family for my mom's 86th birthday. We had a reservation, and they seated the seven of us comfortably at a large corner table. The restaurant was packed and noisy. We had the best waiter. He was attentive and cracked jokes continuously. When he found out it was my mom's birthday he offered to bring her a couple different free desserts, but she didn't want one. I like the menu because you get to select your own side dishes to go with the entree from a long list of delicious items. I ordered the 12 oz. prime rib with a baked potato and salad. The prime rib, cooked medium rare, came with horseradish sauce and au jus. The potato had butter, chives, and sour cream on it. The dressing for the salad was a delicious honey mustard. Everything was very good. Others ordered the New York strip steak, salmon, and BBQ ribs. The food arrived quickly and everyone enjoyed their meal. This Black Angus location has been around for a long time. I used to go dancing there with friends thirty years ago when it was a popular nightclub in addition to a dining establishment. I haven't been to Black Angus Steakhouse in over 15 years. I also didn't realize the South SJ location remained open after the one in Milpitas permanently closed. We happened to stumble on this location only because my husband had an appointment in the area. We arrived around 7:45pm on a Friday night, and the place was surprisingly busy. That said, it only took about a 10 minute wait to be seated without a reservation. Black Angus was a blast from the past. The furniture, decor, and even carpet pattern reminded me of growing up a kid in the 90s. Service was excellent. Wait staff members were friendly and attentive. I especially appreciated how one of the servers stepped up to backup his colleague, who was busy with other customers. We ordered our usual: Campfire Feast for 2. I don't recall the Campfire Feast including prime rib, so we indulged ourselves and both got cuts of prime rib as our main entrees. The prime rib was pretty good! Even with a reservation, we were seated about 13 minutes late. Service was rough. Slow to get our drinks, slow to get a server to take our order. It felt like they might have been short‑staffed. There were plenty of empty tables, but the staff just couldn't keep up. Food, at least, was consistent. We ordered the Campfire Feast, but they were out of mixed vegetables and out of asparagus, which was disappointing. Location is definitely closing down based on how run down and poorly it is operating. Surrounding parking lot has been turned into residential units and the restaurant is hidden from the main street. There is barely any parking, and the building is extremely rundown. The TVs are from 2010, there is no music playing and cobwebs everywhere. There's barely any staff, your water will never get refilled and your food will take about 45 minutes to come. The food itself is not bad at all for its price. Where else will you get a ribeye +2 lobster tails for about 65 bucks these days, not with these inflation. 22oz porterhouse with two sides for $65? The price point is extremely good. The mashed potato's are probably the worst thing here, tasting like straight out of a box and premade. Fries are frozen and reheated. read more

The crab cake is a very good size and delicious. The steak (filet mignon) is cooked properly and tasty. The carrot cake is good too. Overall a very good experience and excellent food that's reasonably priced. This is the only Black Angus that's still around in the South Bay. I've been here a few times and haven't been disappointed so far I strongly recommend making reservations as it can be pretty busy & the wait time can vary from 20-60 minutes. My go to appetizer will always be the calamari strips. They're absolutely crunchy and delicious, especially with the sauce that's provided. I decided to get their Filet & Surf ($53.99) it came with a 6oz. Filet Mignon, two lobster tails & two sides! For that price and the amount of food that I received was definitely well spend. Everything was absolutely delicious and tasteful. My partner's ribeye steak was tender and juicy. It was made to perfection. The service wasn't bad either, they take your order, check in once or twice which is nice in order to not feel forgotten. The environment is nice and quiet. So juicy that he had removed his ring. Of course, he really enjoys his burgers! After getting home, he realized he left it at the restaurant. My wife enjoys the Buffalo & Ranch Grilled Chicken Sandwich: grilled chicken or crispy chicken tenders, chipotle-Buffalo sauce, ranch made in-house, lettuce, tomato, brioche bun (4/5). The chicken is tender and moist. Rodeo Ripper Combo Meal: 8 oz certified Angus Beef hand formed patty, cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, onion rings, pickles, and house made bbq sauce, served on a buttered and toasted brioche bun (4/5). Came here with the family and we were using Inkind so we had to spend $150 to get $50 back. Hence, we ordered quite a bit of food. I was OK with the meal. Service is standard and you get that chain restaurant feel. We came on a Friday around 8p. No wait. Here are my ratings: Food (3.5 stars) + 16oz Prime rib was cooked perfectly and it's not bad. It just doesn't come close to House of Prime Rib. The au jus is some form of gravy which is a bit disappointing. (4 stars) + Brussel sprouts appetizer is very good. It is one of the better Brussel sprouts I've had but didn't care for the blue cheese. (4 stars) + Ribeye steak is likely choice grade which is not bad but I'm used to prime so it's just OK for my high standards. Loaded baked potato is quite filling and green beans were perfect compliments. (3.5 stars) + Kids steak is a tough sirloin cut that could use more seasoning. It's a good portion but I had to cut the steak for my daughter. I prefer Sizzler's kids steak because they're seasoned well and more tender for sirloin. (2.5 stars) - BBQ ribs were huge and we didn't have room to eat it so we took it home. We had to slap on our own bbq sauce and air fry it. It actually tasted good at home. The bite I did take when it was fresh at the restaurant was nearly inedible. (2 stars) - Artichoke appetizer isn't my thing. I didn't even know where to start eating the leaf. My wife showed me but I still couldn't enjoy it. However she did like it though. (2 stars) Service/Ambiance (4 stars) + Our server was fine. I can't remember her name but she understood our plan to maximize the Inkind deal. + When you get $150 of food for just over $100 it's a win. We made reservations on a Thursday evening at 5:30 pm and it was quiet yet with older diners already enjoying their meals. They have a private parking lot, so you don't need to worry about that. Even the mashed potatoes were off--they had a strange canned or processed smell and didn't taste fresh at all. Overall, nothing on the plate felt fresh. Ambiance was festive with all the families celebrating graduations and dinning with family and friends. Wlaked in and we were greeted by employees at desk. They let us know it waould be a 20-30 minute wait. We agreed on the wait and took a seat. At the 30 minute mark asked if out table was ready and they said 15 minutes, well, I reminded them they said it would be a 30 minute wait and we are going on 40. She looked at our name on the list and said, oh, ok, this way and seated us. Didn't have a resevation so it was a 40 minute wait with graduation season in full force. Looked over the menu for drinks since we knew what we were going to order to eat. Went with the blackberry sage lemonade refresher wich was a bit tart but verry good. Ordered our special and requested our steaks medium wll and they wee cooked perfctly to our liking. The lobster was goos and the shrimp a tasty side but only sot 3 shrimp and on my grandsons plate he had 7 shrimp, what a jip. Left feeling satisfied and had no room for dessert. read more

OMG, had such a great experience at dinner last night. Used to regularly go to Black Angus in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara until they both closed years ago ... maybe decades ago? Assumed the entire chain had gone under when, after I mentioned to a friend how much I'd love a good steak for a reasonable price, he asked if I'd like to join him here! Wonder of wonders, both the 6-oz filet medium-rare with mushrooms on the side and the baked potato with all the amazing Stuff on it, were both Just Right! Our server, Dee, was an absolute pleasure, couldn't wish for more! And they still serve their delicious individual round loaves of brown bread!! Plus the portions were large enough that we each brought home around half our meals!!! We appreciated that, unlike *some* restaurants around here, the ambiance was totally conducive to conversation -- i.e., no loud blaring music to drown out whatever we might be saying to each other. The restaurant is a stand-alone building right behind Pier 1 Import and right next to Oakridge Mall. There are ample parkings. Walking into the front door, you'll be transported back to the old time with cowboy decorations, wooded panels and cute u-shaped booths. There was a bar area with TVs if you wanted to watch sports and enjoy a drink while doing that. I highly recommend you make a reservation before you come. I've dined here many times. Even when the store is empty and you are the only customers there at the waiting area, the staff will always tell you "The wait is 20 minutes or more." Even with reservation, my sister and I waited 10 minutes (again with an empty store and only us there). Our server tried her best but was absent minded. She kept forgetting my sister's margarita order and our request for extra bread. Food took forever to come out and did not have great presentation. We were there to try out their brunch menu this time. You can't pass a deal on $4 margarita and $5 mimosa! And those drinks were the highlight of our dining experience though they took forever to come as well and the restaurant was basically empty. We ordered shrimp & grit and lobster scrambles. The scrambles looked like something my 10 years old cousin made for breakfast. The shrimp & grit looked nicer. Taste wise, it was the opposite. I was surprised at how flavorful the lobster scrambles were and I could definitely taste the lobsters. The shrimp & grit was bland/tasteless and the garlic breads that came with it tasted old. We went here on a whim because we haven't been to one in a long time. It seemed like it was busy because the parking lot was almost full, but the restaurant itself had a lot of seating. We were seated within 10 minutes, as there were only a couple of people before us. The server was attentive and nice. We were able to put in our food order and got it fairly quickly. The food itself wasn't that good. My filet didn't taste good, it seemed like it was more on the rare side of cooking. The middle part of the filet just fell out when I got toward the middle, and wasn't even par-cooked. Also, it usually has a nice buttery taste to it, and this one just didn't taste good. My husbands said his meal was so-so. I think the ribs were overcooked and not falling off the bone, more dry than anything. Several months ago I gave a raving review because the server Tammy was exceptionally good. So when we go there we ask for her, today at 1:20 pm, we arrived and waited almost ten minutes just to put our names on the list, was it very busy, absolutely not, three people in front of us only. We of course asked for Tammy, the mgr. ( I found out his name later on) said oh Tammy's was cut... I said it's only 1:20 in the afternoon and he gave a lame excuse. Lo and behold my wife saw Tammy in her section so my wife went over to her and indicated we did ask for her. In the meantime I got seated at about 1:30 ... at 1:40 still no server. Then the server Jason, a very nice young man took our drink order and we told him we know what we want... 15 minutes later still no drinks, I noticed Jadon had at least 4 tables near us. I went up to the mgr, Alex and said we've been sitting there for 15 minutes and no drinks delivered at the table. Again, another lame excuse he gave plus no apology. I don't know about you but when you order drinks, it should not take 15 minutes. BTW, these were soft drinks (soda). We ordered an appetizer, zucchini that we always get, another 15 minutes and when my wife took her first bite she could hardly bite down it was so over done. So we flagged down the server finally and Jason promptly said I'll get you another order. So another ten minutes but the order came out fine. Now an hour later we are still waiting for our food order. Again Jason indicated that as soon as he takes care of the table across from us he'll check on our order but he also said that our ticket, meaning food order should be next. We finally left after two hours and absolutely did not enjoy our meal because everything was so late coming out. Now we frequent this location somewhat often but today was not an enjoyable day. I know restaurants pretty well, I know many owners, today this restaurant specifically didn't know how to seat patrons so that the delay we experienced shouldn't have happened. Second, the kitchen must have been short staffed because of the extended wait for the food and the appetizer experience. We are considering going to a different location next time.
