This restaurant has a lovely setting, very spacious and combined with Crema coffee shop. Street parking wasn't too difficult to find on a Sunday evening, and the place was fairly empty an hour before closing time. The second level seating was closed off, but there were plenty of open tables downstairs, so no problem. They have so many appetizing items on the menu, but it's not exactly accurate as to what they offer. For instance, they had lobster empanadas listed on the happy hour menu (all day Sunday), but the employee unapologetically informed us that they stopped making lobster empanadas months ago (well then why is it on your restaurant menu?!?). They were out of a couple other main seafood items as well. We ended up ordering half a dozen oysters, firecracker lobster roll, lobster grilled cheese, and lobster mac n cheese. It took 10 minutes for the oysters to be ready, and 15 minutes for everything else to be served at our table. The oysters were standard in quality and taste. The lobster roll was buttery with a nice kick, but not super spicy. The lobster mac and cheese was disappointing, though there was a nice layer of melted cheese and lobster chunks on top, beneath that was cheap looking macaroni shells in what tasted like frozen and reheated mac n cheese from the grocery store. The happy hour lobster grilled cheese sandwich looked like something off a kid's menu (but at least the taste was better than the mac n cheese). I checked out the website before visiting. There is a photo, a one-paragraph blurb, and a contact form. No menu or other information. I visited on a weekday night, but there was no parking to be found... I had to drive around on side streets for twenty minutes and then walk back to the restaurant. The inside has kind of a cafeteria feel... not very welcoming. You enter the restaurant through a coffee shop called Crema, which seems to operate as a separate business(?). Surprisingly, despite the lack of parking, there were only a few people in the restaurant. The staff seemed totally disinterested, and service was slow. They do have a nice selection on the menu - sandwiches, burgers, tacos, lobster, oysters, crab, and more. Sadly, everything we tried was disappointing. The shrimp I had were overcooked and rubbery, and everything was way over-salted to the point of being almost inedible. Portions were small, which in this case I didn't mind at all. This is such a lovely and underrated place! I wasn't so sure about stopping into dinner after seeing some reviews. But, I'm so glad we did because we really enjoyed the food. There's ample parking on the side and plenty of tables inside while outside as well. There's ambiance of the place has a cool ocean vibe with accents of Vietnamese culture. The person took our order right away and was attentive when we were trying to decide. The food was really flavorful and I liked the different dynamics of the dish. Especially the slides, they were so delicious and juicy. The crab cakes were pretty fresh and tasted good with the ailoli sauce. While the fish and chips were a huge portion and pretty nicely fried. Menu looked good so we grabbed a bite on Valentines day. Started with Clam Chowder, good chowder, not alot of clams and the crackers were stale. I got the lobster roll, sandwich was decent (small), for whatever reason slaw was only half filled (3 bites). good amount of french fries but they had an odd after taste (like something else that was fried in the oil). My girl got the lobster mac. It was a good sized portion, she felt it was just OK? whe I tried it I understood it had an aftertaste, I have no idea what it was but it seemed perfumey? Even though it had a fair amount of lobster, it was ruined by this unknown aftertaste. She barely ate half. If this was an actual ingredient it was so prevalent it should be listed. I know times are tough, prices are high pretty much everywhere, we don't get out like we used to but I don't feel a decent mealis too much to ask for. Won't be returning. read more

No. Just no...don't waste your money on this place. The mac n cheese? No. The sauce looked like that Ragu brand cheese sauce in the jar at the grocery store, but somehow tasted worse. The pictures are deceiving. The presentation looked appetizing because they covered it with cheese and put it under the broiler. But once you pealed that real cheese layer back, you are left with nacho cheese covered shells. The lobster tails? No. They were edible, but for $60, I would have hoped for lobster that looked bigger than a set of prawns. The garlic noodles? No. The garlic didn't taste like it was cooked. So you had a plate of delicious looking noodles with a pile of almost raw garlic on top. The fish n chips? Looks great. Tasted ok. Could be improved if the batter wasn't so thick. The clam chowder? My niece and sister in law brought me here. Let me tell you, this is probably the best seafood spot in San Jose! Very lowkey (during the weekdays at least) & located on the west side. Love the little bakery inside of their restaurant that has the most delicious pastries/desserts as well as delicious coffee! We had the calamari, lobster po boy, & crab cake sliders - and all of it was amazzzing!!! Very fresh & tasty. I wasn't a big fan on the coleslaw/ but the food is so good it doesn't matter. Would definitely come back to try diff seafood items next time :) read more

Came for the oysters and garlic noodles with Lobster. Solid 4 on the food. The service was a bit slow and I didn't see anyone to flag down to get a fork with my meal, so I just used one of the mini fork from the oyster tray ‍. Didn't bother me but I can see how that would annoy someone that is more service driven for their dining experience (I can others lowing the rating a star for that). Staff was nice when we did see them. Crema coffee shop shares the same dinning space, just at the other ends of the dinning room. Very chill and nice atmosphere. Drove here because the food looked good and got to the front counter by 741. I was told that they usually close the kitchen at 7:30 and I could not order food. Seems weird for a restaurant that says it takes orders until eight, real waste of my time. They were not many customers and they clearly just wanted to close early. read more

Found this place on Yelp searching for raw oysters. Didn't realize this place shared a building with Crema coffee. I was waiting at the register for a couple of minutes, and I looked in the kitchen to ask if they were open. The person said someone on the other side could help me. The other side meant at Crema. So I walked over and asked for help. Ordered the dozen mixed oysters on a half shell and the garlic noodles with lobster. The oysters came out first. Don't know what kind of oysters we got, but they were all good. One or two of the varieties were more on the briny side. Oysters were good & fresh. Oh! Oysters were also $2 each for happy hour (it was 2pm on a Sunday). Garlic noodles were very garlicky & tasty! There was a lot of lobster in it too. It's well worth the price at $17 in my opinion. I'd give a 3/5 for service since it was pretty slow. The staff was nice, but the oysters took about 15 minutes and the garlic noodles another 15 minutes. Also they didn't check on us after we got our food. Everyone was busy working on the Crema side. I think there was only one person in the Pier kitchen prepping and cooking. read more

I tried the coffee next door at Crema and it was good but they don't make their syrups fresh. They have a large selection of coffee styles. We are next door at pier 402 and I would come back for their HH. My tuna nicose salad had plenty of tuna and tasted fresh. The Paloma was fairly priced and was very effervescent. The only downfall was the ran out of bread bowl for their clam chowder and they served it with overly buttered sourdough slices. It was meh. This review is for Crema Coffee inside that shares a space with Pier 402. I got a Iced Vietnamese coffee w/ cream and a coffee crumb cake that was fantastic! Both were a great combo over conversation with a friend. The iced Vietnamese is served with coffee espresso and creamer so I added more creamer because even the American style Viet coffee taste is too bitter for my liking. Warm coffee crumb cake was good the portion was on the smaller side and did have a nice cake and sugar flavor not overwhelming. I recommend both the iced Viet coffee and coffee cake to caffeine lover alike. I like crema coffee, and it's connected inside with this seafood bar. They have happy hour and the price is much more acceptable during happy hour. The raw oysters were fine, the fried sampler include 3 kinds of fried seafood you could choose. We had fried fish, oyster and calamari. I like the calamari the most, the fried oyster was a bit too heavy on the batter. The soft shell crab was a bit disappointing, i didn't like the dipping sauce for the crab either. What can I say about this establishment? Cute nautical theme inside. It shares a roof with a small coffee establishment that people kept coming in to order coffee from and no one seemed to be working. For the restaurant, there is a sign directing you in what to do. Grab a menu, grab a table, then after you decide what you'd like, you go up to the counter to order, staff brings food to your table. The staff was accommodating. Last time the seafood (lobster) in the poutine was not as fresh and there was only like 5 pieces of cheese so I didn't appreciate that. But I'll try it again in a few weeks. We had a bowl of clam chowder, and it was excellent. We also had a mixed green salad and chose Thousand Island dressing. The salad was pretty good. My husband had a "Shipwreck" sandwich of fried pollock, and he loved it. I got the lobster roll, and it was fine. There was what looked like a broccoli slaw on the side. It lacked flavor, but I appreciated this healthy side. I paid extra for sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, and they were really good. Unfortunately, they were room temperature when I got them. The lady who took our order was helpful and friendly. This is a nice, casual spot for a seafood meal. read more

The 5 stars is for the color variety in their taco. Almost all the colors of the rainbow are in their taco. Red, yellow, orange, green, purple, black and white. There are other tacos downtown with richer flovors, but I have not encountered any yet that look better. The mango toppings were extra tasty and blended well with the rest of the tacos. read more

My husband ordered the crabby melt, thinking it would be a fresh crab melt sandwich, but he got a crab cake burger. Well... we came back as we said we would... but didn't have a good experience :( When we visited, the price for the dozen of oysters for happy hour was sharpied over. A little suspicious but we still went ahead to order because ... how bad could it be. Well... The cashier told us hh oysters are $5 off the normal price. We were surprised because that's not that much of a discount for hh. We ordered anyways because we were already there. The dozen oysters came out to be $30. That's double the price of their menu online. $2.50 for an oyster, that's regular price for oysters. You don't even get to pick what variety. Service was also nonexistent and it seems that the staff are overworked as the two worker we saw the entire night run back and forth between pier402 and the coffee shop in the same building. We are disappointed from this experience and would probably not come back. The whole thing just seems suspicious. Sharpie-ing out the price take away the transparency for the price and the restaurant can just charge whatever they want. 2 stars for the food. read more

My friends and I are big sea-foodies and have been trying different sea food places around the South Bay each month and all of us agreed this was our favorite! We started with oysters that were super fresh and very large! Then we had garlic noodles. We order garlic noodles at every seafood restaurant but we all agreed these were the best we've had. Finally, we ordered the seafood broil with lobster. For only $60 you get a full lobster and a heaping portion of clams, mussels, shrimp, sausage, corn, and garlic bread! The garlic butter sauce is delicious and not too oily unlike most other seafood places. The lobsters and crabs are in tanks inside the restaurant so you know they're fresh! The service is meh. They don't have table service so you order at the counter. There isn't really much to comment on - it wasn't good but also wasn't bad. What a great spot! Never knew it existed, but glad I found out about this place. It's a great spot near downtown San Jose. Location is on the larger side and they have plenty of parking which is always a great thing when you are near downtown. It was pretty much empty when we arrived, but we arrived midday Wednesday. The guy working here was nice and again location is very large. They even have alcohol which took me by surprise and I'm talking about cocktails. The food prices are fair, and the food quality is fantastic. I love seafood and I love a great environment and this place has both. Hopefully more people find out about this place. read more

If you're feeling seafood while in the Northwestern part of San Jose, and don't want to have a huge spend for dinner -- Pier 402 should come to mind. We arrived just after 6pm and there were a couple of other diners. The host gave us some menus and we sat at the bar reviewing our options. After we ordered (pay first and they will bring your order to you), we situated ourselves in one of their many tables. It's a very spacious restaurant. We paid just over $50 for all sorts of good bites. Great happy hour menu. I liked most of the things that Ive tried here minus maybe like one dish. Food: Crab Melt Sandwich- Thought this would be meltier/cheesier. The patty is like a crabcake (fried), but I think it woulda been better just letting it be crab meat. This was just ok. Lobster Roll- Great lobster roll. Not much to say about it. Chowder Fries- I totally thought this wasnt gonna be that great, but damn they were good! I highly recommend you upgrade your fries to chowder fries.
