My last review was 2019 so I figured it was time to update my review of the Cup & Saucer at 1375 Blossom Hill Rd, San Jose, CA 95118. The restaurant is under new ownership with a new business manager. Yes I eat here at least once a week and my Thursday group enjoys evening dinner meetings. Now before I say anything, let's talk about the few recent negative reviews. I really liked the one about this being a senior food hangout. That is 100% true as seniors like food cooked a certain way with modifications.The owners of C&S know their customer base and fulfills their request with great quality food. Now there are plenty of families that come in and I've never heard one child complain about the waffles or house made baked goods. The servers have been there for years and knows everyone by name. Bridgett, my usual morning server, has been there the longest and is one of my favorites. If a meal is not to your liking, let the server know and the Chef will make it right. My favorites are the steaks. Excellent quality and always made to my request. Everyone works as a team. Often the buss person will help out. I don't believe many of the seniors are Yelpers, but they keep coming back! Now for my review-OUTSTANDING! Restaurant is clean, ownership is customer focused, and the weekly specials are excellent, especially the "Special Fish". Every server is excellent and always a pleasure to see. You know how to tell if a restaurant is good? Well when you walk in and all the patrons know each other and the server's have all been working there for years. I've been here now about 4 times and I've tried different food items and every time I tell myself, "self" remember to get the same thing next time because it's so good but when the next time comes along I forget what it was that I ordered the last time so I try something new and you know what? I'm never disappointed. The food is always excellent and so is the service. Today I ordered the mighty Cristo creep, Bariteau thingy "lol" see photos. Comes with what looks like 2 crêpe burritos filled with cheese, ham, and eggs and comes with a side of jam and crispy kind of smashed potatoes "again see picture" I also for pancake syrup because that pears so well with Montecristo's. read more

Great food! Great service! Great Atmosphere! We went here for breakfast, after seeing it when we went to the Mandarin House for lunch. Yesterday we drove to Cup & Saucer for breakfast. Right away they greeted us with smiling faces and sat us down at a booth. The atmosphere was fun, lively, with the sounds of conversation and chatter filling the air. We ordered the All American Breakfast with buttermilk pancakes, and the Eggs Benedict. Both dishes were delicious and the pancakes were so nice and fluffy! We will definitely be back to try more delicious food! read more

Service was okay. We were seated quickly and ordered within 5-10 minutes. The place has an old timey vibe, complete with an old cash register. We got the chicken avocado sandwich with fries and the Texas toast 1/2 pound burger with onion rings. The sandwich was basic - the chicken didn't seem to be seasoned well, so the ingredients had to bring their own flavors. The fries were just okay. The burger and onion rings were great! read more

This is the senior food hangout for the locals. My wife and I have recently frequented this establishment for brunch. Food has been good and the service has been okay depending on who you get as your waitress. All young waitresses, I suppose this could be training ground for newbies before they flee to their better places of employment. The walnut carrot cake used to be delicious, but it was really quite dry this time. We came in on Easter Sunday and it was fairly quiet except for young women's voices throwing around the F-bomb. At first, I thought it was a group of youngsters cussing up a storm, but then they don't usually come in here and I didn't see a table with a group of cussing young women. I was hearing the chatter coming from the kitchen. I have no idea what was going on but it was totally inappropriate and uncalled for. Where was the manager of this establishment? This ruined the ambiance of the restaurant and eventually affected the food. Management needs to train their employees big time or get rid of some of them. We will rethink about coming in here again since there are a multitude of better restaurants. read more

Came in today with a semi big group, We were greeted right away & staff was able to arrange a table for us. They had a really cute activity kids menu that helped keep the kids occupied throughout our meal. The server Bridget mentioned some of their specials & we got a rib eye soup which was amazing. We got a couple of different things & everyone enjoyed it. The buss-boy made sure our coffee cups were never empty. I was recommended to add steak onto my chilaquiles & they were delicious & added an oomph to my meal. The only thing is we overstuffed ourselves we had to leave the croissant french toast for next time. Overall great service, food & quality. read more

This is a great place for breakfast. Dinner...maybe not quite the same experience. The quality of the food is solid--very generous portions and well prepared. "Alana" has been my server the last few times I've come in for dinner, and there were a few service issues that made the experience less enjoyable. I didn't feel much warmth or energy in the interaction. There wasn't much of a greeting--she came to the table and asked if I was ready to order--and the tone felt quite flat and a bit disengaged. The food came out quickly and was hot, which I appreciated. However, there weren't any check-ins after it was served, aside from someone refilling my water. When she came to clear the plate, I asked about dessert options. They were listed in a fairly neutral, low-energy way, and when I made a selection, I was asked if I wanted it to go. A reasonable question, just delivered a bit awkwardly. I understand this is a tough, often thankless job, and I do appreciate the effort that goes into it. Still, the service didn't quite meet expectations during these visits, which was disappointing given how much I usually enjoy this place. read more

The carrot walnut bread use to be excellent, but the last three times it's been so dry, so this time order the biscuits and that was so dense and dry and difficult to swallow. Breakfast has been so so. The food use to be so much better, but their hamburgers are excellent!! read more

Although i've lived in this area for years, I came here for the first time this past weekend for mother's day brunch and had the croissant french toast! it was delicious, cooked perfectly, and the price was not bad. my entire family enjoyed their meals and we had perfectly made milkshakes for dessert. Friendly service. Nice little diner with outdoor seating options, a little crowded on the morning rush, but that's to be expected because they do a really good breakfast here. Great food and service! Have lived here in the neighborhood for many yrs. and yet my first time to have breakfast here. I had the Philly Benedict which was well made, delicious, and a generous serving. My friend ordered the Monte Cristo which was awesome as well. Well, I'd heard so much good stuff about this place I knew I had to try it, as it had been over 20 years since I did! My friend and I went in on Thursday late afternoon and the place was almost empty at 4pm, but within the hour it almost filled up. Our server was prompt and paid good attention to our needs. My friend who took me here, has eaten here and raved about it. However, I cannot say the same. I ordered the mini plate dinner of meatloaf. My vegetables were so hard I had to send back and have the dinner heated and vegetables cooked soft so I could chew them. The salad we had first was generous portion, of romaine lettuce, kidney beans, and cherry tomatoes. The bleu cheese dressing was good and salad very fresh. My main entree came slightly before I finished salad, but acceptable. I can honestly say I've never had such a huge slice of meatloaf, it was the equivalent of 3 slices; but wait, although that's good, the flavor was blah! Possibly the most bland meatloaf I've ever eaten? Almost like eating boiled meat, with a slight outside rim of what looked like it was roasted. The mashed potatoes were homemade and good. The veggies were a good mix, and after having them cooked more, I did enjoy them! The meal came with dessert, which is either pudding, tapioca, or ice cream. I chose coffee ice cream which was good. For the price the meal is cheaper than most places, but next time I'll try something OTHER than meatloaf. I make a better one as I add much more flavor. Definitely lots of other things to choose from, and they also offer specials. Their refrigerator near door holds all the desserts which did look tempting! Next time perhaps? I think this place is old style coffee shop style, and the seats look like they haven't been replaced maybe ever, but mine was comfortable, nice booths, not metal or wood chairs without padding. This place does have a clientele of older patrons, or so it would seem. The bill total for the 2 of us was only $32.00 we both ordered the same meal. 6pm called in to order Corned Beef and cabbage St Patrick's Day dinner. Picked it up at 6:30 and the restaurant was full of customers. I'm not Irish, but being I'm from NY, St Patrick's Day signals corned beef and cabbage. Cup and saucer did it perfectly the way I like it / not overly salted; carrots/cabbage/potatoes were perfect. They have either inside or outside seating , and outside seating would be my the I like the most . The stuff there always carry smile on face , friendly and helpful. Always pass by on the way to the nail salon, and it's perfect to sit outdoors on a warm day. It's not close to the street and feels enclosed but super breezy at the same time. Staff was very attentive on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered the Texas Toast burger with a side of onion rings. Friend got the loco moco and everything came out super quick. The burger was hearty, with bacon, caramelized onions and thick Texas toast. They were kind to put the tomatoes on the side for my friend as I don't care for them. Was surprised how large the portion of onion rings were, perfectly fried! Friend enjoyed her loco moco but wished there was more gravy to it. Decided to drop in to this brunch spot since the other spots I wanted to go to were really busy. I had been here before and had not had many issues. However, this time the service was really slow and the food was not very good. The potatoes served on the side of the dish lacked flavor and the main dish I had got wasn't anything special either. Service didn't come around to do any water refills and didn't come by to pick up the check either. I'd pass on this place due to the lack of quality in their food and slow service. read more

It was delicious, very affordable and the service was excellent. Our servers Ethan and Lenny were very attentive and friendly. Always checking up on us and very quick to answer our questions about the menu and drinks. The cashier was courteous and friendly also. Clean tables/menus and clean restrooms are always a plus!! The Cup & Saucer is a bit of a local institution so I was looking forward to trying it out, but I left wanting more than the average food and aging décor that I found. In terms of food they offer the usual diner dishes ranging from omelets to burgers & sandwiches but unfortunately it doesn't stop there. For some reason they are trying to do it all. Pastas, Mexican, Stir Fry, Seafood, even Liver & Onions! I haven't seen a menu this diverse since The Cheesecake Factory, which is a restaurant probably ten times as large as this, and even they can't make that many different dishes actually taste good. How can you expect a small kitchen staff to put out 60 different dishes fresh and at a high-quality? I'd rather see a few excellent dishes on a menu than a hundred mediocre ones, and unfortunately what you get here is the latter. The other thing that really stood out to me was how dated the restaurant felt. Stepping into The Cup & Saucer feels like stepping back in time, though not necessarily in the quaint or charming way one might hope. The interior feels like it was last renovated 30-40 years ago and has been slowly left to fade out under the sun. I half expected to see ashtrays sitting on the tables. The combination of lackluster food, a drab and dated interior, and an apparent menu identity crisis left me with the firm impression that I won't be coming back any time soon. read more

This is a diner that looks like it is from the 70's. Mostly booth seating, but there are also seats outside, where, when we were there at 2:00, there were 6 people at a table playing cards, and 4 women inside playing Mahjong. Apparently during slow times, they let people take over some of the tables. It seems to be a place where a lot of elderly people gather. Aside from that initial impression, there is a large menu selection, and I've been around 4 times, and each time my meal was tasty. - I've had the Apricot stuffed french toast. It is very good, but you have to be in the mood for sweet. But it is different, and I appreciate the novelty. - I've had the Denver omelet, which was also good. I actually liked it better the next day when I heated up the leftovers. I wasn't too into the green bell peppers in it -- I didn't like that consistency. But, that may just be my tastes. I've rarely had a Denver omelet -- usually go for bacon, but that wasn't an option on the menu. It came with potatoes which were good, and a pastry choice, which I chose the raspberry coffee cake, and that was excellent! The coffee cake was similar to what Hobee's would make. The berries make it sweetly delicious, and it has a scrumptious cinnamon topping. The coffee cake is worth choosing as the pastry coming with your meal! - My friend had the tostada salad and liked it. They have multiple Eggs Benedict options and a Copenhagen pancake dish that sounds delicious, filled with raspberry cream cheese, but again, need to be in the mood for something sweet. I appreciate a restaurant that tries to up their game and make unique dishes. It is not a fancy place; it is good for friends gathering, families, elderly people wishing to gather and hang out, and for anyone wishing to have a nice selection on the menu and a decent meal. The last time I came to Cup and Saucer I ordered a Cobb Salad. I can honestly say that it was the best Cobb Salad I have had. It was huge and delicious! I want to come back and order this again! It reminds me of a little diner that I would visit at this same shopping center when I was little with my Grandma. She called it a "Coffee Shop." I don't know if it was this one or the one that used to be in Kmart, but I like thinking about Grandma and this place is perfect for that ambiance. read more

We love Cup and Saucer - it's an adorable local-owned diner, and it's good eats. I'm writing this review specifically about their holiday to go meals. They offered this last year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we jumped on it this year for Thanksgiving. For $89.99, we got a "complete spiral cut ham dinner for 6 people" - including sliced ham, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce (requested as a substitute for the cranberry mustard listed), green beans, mixed green salad, dinner rolls, butter, and 3 individual 5 inch pies (one each apple, pumpkin and cherry). Dinners were packaged in disposable aluminum pans and cold at pick up, so we could heat them at home when ready. Unfortunately, we didn't get an instruction sheet in with it, so we just heated individual plates. Overall, it was a great meal. Generous portions! The ham was really good! Stuffing also excellent. Mashed potatoes were the real deal - nice and chunky. Cranberry sauce was good. Green beans were terrible (sorry!) - oily and some were burnt. Salad and rolls were as expected. The pies were adorable and quite tasty. I love supporting local-owned restaurants, and the staff here is always kind to our family. Not every item was perfect, but overall it was great and we will be back for dine-in and to-go. read more

I'm glad I got to try the texas toast burger, it really did live up to the hype. Despite having grown up in the area, I'm surprised I've never tried this place before. We came in around 10:30am on a Saturday, and were quickly seated. As soon as we sat, the busser got us some water and coffee, which was nice. While normally I'd be ordering breakfast, we just had pancakes and eggs recently and opted for some lunch instead. So along with the burger, we tried the meatloaf and a cup of chili. The cup of chili came out first, and it was pretty darn good. Hearty, the right thickness, and a lot of chopped onions and cheese. I liked that there was that sting of onion in every bite, but my breath certainly paid for it later. When the texas toast burger and meatloaf came out, wow! just the portion size alone was a bit daunting. My partner and I split both, and really only managed to eat half the burger, and about 1/3 of the meatloaf. With the burger, came some crunchy onion rings. While I had asked for the burger to be cooked medium, I'd say it was a little closer to well-done, but it was still relatively juicy, and the bacon on top was cooked to my liking. The two large slice of meatloaf was plentiful... I should have asked for some extra gravy. You could tell the mixed veggies were frozen, and I would have preferred something a little more al dente, but add in the gravy and it was fine. Lastly, I really loved the mashed potatoes that came with the meatloaf. It was super thick, slightly chunky, and creamy, almost as if there was not only cream, but cheese added. Either way, I really liked it, and didn't necessarily need the gravy for it! Service was decent, I'd say the busser was much friendlier than our waitress. And while paying at the front, we were tempted by the pies. It was about $7 for a pie, which I thought was a decent price. While I have yet to try them, they looked pretty good. read more

I would rate a 0 star if I could, I got the make your own dinner meal for $18.50 ordered it with a 1/2 hamburger with a side of avocado and a fruit bowl, they gave me just the straight patty not medium rare like I ordered they put it on a literal lily pad and gave it to me half a avocado cut up and the fruit bowl was like a fruit cup. to make things worse the burger patty I was given was unseasoned and dry which explains why they put it on a lily pad, the service was horrible as my sister ordered a hot chocolate and even after eating for half an hour they still haven't gave us my sisters hot chocolate, and the view that was provided was just a bunch of other restaurants and a loud sound of traffic. The restaurant is in the strip mall which I've always went for McDonald's, Starbucks, Bonchon and Walgreens. Never noticed this breakfast place because it looks dated from the outside. Just once in a blue moon we stop by to try since it's so local in the neighborhood. Menu looks good, we ordered the supreme breakfast and a Belgian waffle. The breakfast is a bit Mexican, we didn't expect tortillas and it was served like quesadilla. I think they put in the wrong order because there is a "supreme breakfast quesadilla" now that I'm posting my pictures. It was good regardless. Belgium waffle was ok, nothing you can do wrong with it. read more
