IMHO Beautiful restaurant, epic customer service from Patty and bartender extraordinaire, Sal, and yummy food. Our party of 7 enjoyed delicious cocktails crafted by Sal for our specific tastes. Sal's suggestion for me was the Chi-Chi (vodka, trader Vic's macadamia nut, pineapple, coco lopez), $12!! The ladies all loved it; we had to order another round of Chi-Chis! We arrived early enough to enjoy Happy Hour appetizers. We ordered a dozen oysters, $2.50 each, New England Clam Chowder bowls, $7, Fried Chicken bites, $15, Coconut Shrimp, $14, Beer Battered Fish Sticks, $12, Patatas Bravas (Yukon gold potatoes, salsa brava, aioli), $12, and a Focaccia bread service, $7. I wish I had thought to order the empanadas! Next time! Entrees ordered included Shepherd & Sims salad, $18, special Wedge salad, $18, The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table, $21, Market Fish, $36, HH Fried Chicken Sandwich Slider, $6.50, HH Beer Battered Fish Sticks, $12, HH Fried Chicken bites, $15, Wagyu steak special, $46. The bun-to-chicken ratio on my HH chicken slider was wanting. There was more bun than chicken and the bun was overly toasted. I simply removed the bun and ate the sweet chicken bite. The menfolk expected their Wagyu steaks to be more tender but thought they were chewy. If it's Wagyu, it should melt in your mouth, IMHO. Patty was concerned that the meat entrees were lacking for one friend and offered to bring him something else. Her concern for his happiness showed and was greatly appreciated. Desserts were divine and beautiful to look at. I love me an Affogato, $12, and it did not disappoint! Delish! Friends ordered the Passionfruit Sorbet, $5, Bread Pudding, $14, Lemon Cheesecake, $14. The restaurant ambiance was bright and clean. I appreciated that I could actually see my menu without having to squint for lack of good lighting. Service was exceptional from everyone, especially Patty who kept us laughing and informed. Our plates were efficiently removed and water refilled often without being obtrusive. We all look forward to returning to Shepherd & Sims again soon! Perhaps during the summer, we could dine outside on their lovely patio!

    Potato rosti with smoked salmon

Visited here for Saturday brunch. We got the rigatoni, pork sandwich, potato rosti with smoked salmon, and grandmas suon kho. My favorite dish was the suon kho! The meat was so juicy, tender, and well seasoned. Paired perfectly with a tangy carrot slaw and topped with fried shallots. Would definitely get this again. The mussels in curry were yummy too. The crispy bread perfectly absorbed the curry broth.

Shepherd & Sims has been on my list to try for over a year now. I finally made reservations and had a fantastic dinner with my partner and friends. My overall score for the food is 4 stars, but the outstanding customer service deserved a full 5-star rating. I can't recall our waitress's name, but we all appreciated her friendly service and warm attitude. It truly enhanced our first visit. The other staff members were also very kind. We were even bid farewell as we left, with a staff member holding the door open. Impressive! APPS * Oysters: we ordered a variety for apps. Delicious! Enjoyed the sauces: sangrita, cucumber mignonette, smoked cocktail sauce. * Heirloom Tomatoes: melons, burrata, mint, orange zest, pomegranate syrup, lemon oil. It was refreshing and light. * Ceviche*: local catch (scallops), lime, onion, tomato, cucumber, pico de gallo, salsa macha, blue corn tostada. This appetizer was delish! Well balanced. The blue chips paired well. MAINS * Baby Back Ribs: Korean BBQ sauce, sesame, pickled cucumber salad, cilantro. I ordered this and absolutely enjoyed every bite. The meat was tender and slid off the ribs. However, they were slightly over. * The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table: American cheese, bacon jam, crispy onion string, awesome sauce, pickles, lettuce. My partner ordered this, and I had a bite. It was tasty. A good old burger. Can't go wrong with it. * Flannery Dry Aged Chopped Steak: garlic mashed potatoes, mustard, pickled ramp sauce. My friend ordered this and devoured it. I can safely say it was tasty. * Mafaldine: Jim's Bolognese family recipe of ground beef and pork, Grana Padano. My friend ordered this and ate half since we had quite a few apps. She enjoyed it and only had positive feedback. She boxed the other half for lunch the next day. Overall, a great restaurant in Los Gatos to savor a tasty meal.

    Empanada

Wife and I are here and we both loved this placed. We ordered empanadas, fried chicken, the burger, and beet burrata salad. All there were delicious. Fried chicken and empanada were both seasoned well and flavorful. Burger was amazing and would order everything again. The beet salad was one of the better ones I've had. I loved the lemon "coulis", which added the perfect acidity and pop of flavor. Perhaps a couple more slices of pear, but that's nitpicking - this was a perfect beet salad. We will definitely be back.

This is a long overdue review of Shepherd & Sims. They are located in the Cornerstone of Los Gatos Plaza and has ample parking available. The decor is nice, modern, and bright and cheery. Inside and outisde dining options to choose from. They have a nice full bar. We stopped in with friends for a bite to eat. *Cauliflower: cardamom tea infused, vadouvan curry lentils & chickpeas (no pic, 3/5). The flavors were good but not as tender as we had hoped. Also, the portion size was small, it was a quarter of a head of Cauliflower. *The Only Burger That Belongs On The Table: American cheese, bacon jam, crispy onion string, awesome sauce, pickles, lettuce, French fries (no pic, 3.5/5). Pretty good, seasoned well, decent burger. *Empanadas (no pic, 4/5) - various fillings like chicken, mushroom, cheese & jalapeño.

    Birria empanadas

I came here for bottomless mimosas w my girls and was pleasantly surprised that it was premixed in a pitcher they kept regilli. I had the empanadas of the day which was birria and I enjoyed it so much. Shoutout to our server Vicente because he saw my birthday on my ID was in a few days and threw in a sweet dessert for me.

Second visit to Shepherd & Sims, this time for dinner. Service - since we had a reservation, the host seated us right away -- initially in the noisier bar area but I asked if we could sit on the other side which was much quieter, and he seated us over there. Waiter was also attentive and explained the specials, checked on us several times. Food - I was disappointed that they were out of their delish empanadas (which I had at HH last month) but the Coconut Shrimp were really good. For dinner my husband had one of the specials, a rabbit ragu on fettuccine. He really enjoyed it, I'm not such a fan of rabbit but I had a taste too. I had the Cauliflower gratin which was really good with cheese, good spices and sauce. My Cosmo was also as good as I remembered from HH. For dessert we had the pear tart with Caramel gelato which was a delicious finish to the meal. We'll be back. For quieter seating, ask to be seated on the other side of the restaurant from the bar.

    Bread Pudding!

The bread pudding at Shepherd & Sims was absolutely delicious. Warm, rich, and creamy on the inside with the perfect crunchy top. They served it warm with a little vanilla ice cream that melted into it perfectly and made every bite even better. It was comforting, indulgent, and honestly one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Definitely worth saving room for dessert!

    Duck Fat Hash Browns

First time and what a great experience! Bright and welcoming decor / space. Lots of people but still felt spacious. Had the Duck Hash Browns appetizer - crazy good! Entree was the Scallops over Risotto - also really delicious! Service was excellent - a truly lovely time!! P.S. - parking is good too

We were a big fan of Forthright in Campbell and were bummed when it closed. But we were excited to learn that Sheherd & Sims was owned by the same owner. We've come here twice and enjoyed it both times. Servers are friendly and attentive and we enjoy the food. My wife likes raw oysters so she gets the Sip and Slurp, and I always enjoy the One Hitter Quitter (burger with beer and a shot). Fries were crispy and light, burger was delicious. My wife also had the clams. They have Happy Hour from 2-5:30 and there was quite a crowd inside and out. They have a pretty large covered patio that's totally shaded - nice to sit out there and enjoy the nice weather. We really enjoyed our dinner here both times, and are really happy to have a good neighborhood restaurant we can walk to.

    Chicken Liver Pâté
    Wing M.

This is my third time coming here, and I always stop by on Sunday afternoons for happy hour. They have all kinds of great options on the happy hour menu, and it's honestly one of the best deals around. The place is always clean, inviting, and comfortable -- perfect for a casual weekend hangout. My recommended dishes: Chips and Dip: The chips are impressively thin and super crunchy -- exactly how I like them. Simple but so good. Oysters: I always order whatever oysters they have on special for happy hour. This time the oyster is sweet. My favorite dish: Chicken Liver Pâté: This is my must-order every time. It's creamy, smooth, and flavorful without being too strong. They nail it consistently. The only downside is that they charge an extra 3% if you pay by credit card, which isn't the nicest surprise.

Corned beef and hash with poached egg and béarnaise sauce.
    Hong P.

My friend and I went here for his birthday since this is one of his favorite restaurants. We picked the hamachi tiradito to share. I chose the corned beef and hash and he ordered a steak salad. The hamachi tiradito came out and it was good. The smell was a bit pungent but the taste was decent. Our entrees came out and my corned beef and hash was one of the best I ever had. Decent chunks of corned beef and potatoes with some onions and peppers throughout. Also the poached egg with the béarnaise sauce on top just made the dish. We both enjoyed the meal Service was great and they checked to make sure we got everything we needed.

On my most recent trip, our reservation unexpectedly grew by a few people, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. We really appreciated how hard they worked to make it happen! The cocktails are next level creative, delicious, and unlike anything you'll find at your average bar. My absolute favorite is the Bidi Bidi Bom Bom shot! And of course, we always order the caviar because... why not? The vibe here is everything. Whether it's girls' night, date night, or a celebration, there's always an amazing crowd. The DJ knows exactly how to read the room and keeps everyone singing along/ dancing with banger after banger. One night there was even a live saxophonist who absolutely stole the show, it made the whole experience feel so special! No big deal, as I wanted the bar anyway, but something others should keep in mind. The cocktail list is plentiful and intriguing. I tend to avoid tequila, so that eliminated a good chunk of the options. I went with Rose Colored Lenses, which was fantastic, and decently sized. Presentation was beautiful. My friend had All a Dream, also very good. The wine offerings are minimal, this is very much a cocktail or champagne type of place, with caviar being the primary food service. Speaking of service, the bartender was excellent, both in his mixology and demeanor. It took awhile to get the drinks, but I assume that was due to the complexity of the cocktails, paired with having just opened the doors a few min earlier. Two notes: 1. The barstools were a little too low, imo. I don't normally pay much attention to that detail, but these were uncomfortably low for me, even with my long torso, I was hyper aware of my posture. So maybe that's actually a good thing 2. Other patrons were rolling in shortly behind me, so there is probably an early crowd when they first open, then a late night group that appreciates the 2am closing time. Interior is beautiful, and you can use the steps up to the 2nd floor either from N Santa Cruz or the rear parking lot off W Main. More substantial food options are a mere few steps across the hall at Heritage.

While seating is limited, you can sit at the bar, a booth, a table, or the patio, which allows pretty views of people returning their safeway carts and middle schoolers. That's a dangling participle: They don't return their middle schoolers, but they probably wish they could. Anyway, the Americanized-Mexican menu is heavy on burgers and bar appetizers, which were hit and miss. The French fries were unusually hard and crisp. The smashburgers looked better than they tasted, but that's not too insulting: they look outstanding. On two separate burgers the bland buns fell apart, so hopefully they'll get better options in future. If they won't toast the bun for me next time, I'll bring a lighter. The guac was good (my wife and I are picky) but the "queso" is queso-tionable. It's not the authentic, pale, chile-flecked queso you might expect from even Chipotle, but bright orange school snack bar nacho cheese. The elote salad was not very elotey and it was flavorless (my wife asked for lime, which helped juice it up). The beer list is impressive. They offer rotating slush drinks. I loved the strawberry margarita ($11 or $8 happy hour) but returned the mojito. It tasted like fake mint. It was a nojito.

Refreshing and not sweet. 4.5 stars - New for the summer. Tried a few -- Bear necessities: little honey bear with cantaloupe, white miso, and sauvignon blanc. Quite delicious and summery. 4.5 -- Open container: artsy clear version of a paper bag. Interesting ingredient mix with Havana club rum, fermented pineapple, almond milk, and others. Little bit sweet. 4 stars - Their now more standard drinks are still some of the ones I still rely one. Faves of those: -- Studio 54: vodka based with lemongrass and bubbles served in a shiny colored disco ball glass 5 stars -- Man and his mule: peppercorn version of a mule and love the peppery kick. 4.5 stars -- Grand larceny: punch of a spirit forward cocktail my husband loves. 4.5 stars - Rotate out cocktails ever so often to maximize the fun - Halloween and Christmas they go all out with their unique menus and decor: no generic national pop ups for them and I look forward to it every year. - Food items: high quality as well. Some of my go tos -- Crab toasts: 4 little pieces of lovely toast with a dollop of avocado mousse and a heap of dungenous crab topped with lemon beurre blanc. My fave snack I always have to get. 5+ stars -- Grilled cheese: wonderful combo of white cheddar, monterey jack, and provolone with a bit of truffle flavor--not too much--on a nice fluffy roll. Served with soup to dip it in--often times a nice tomato. 4.75 stars -- French dip: solid version on the same type of roll. 4.5 stars - Can make reservations now online which makes it a lot more convenient - Wines: have a fabulous wine by the glass list but I can't ever pull myself away from the cocktails - Bourbon/whiskey: have a stellar collection and knowledgeable staff to tell you about them (but again never get to it) - Staff: friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable - Atmosphere: relaxed yet fun Midlights: - They used to have a nice nut mix I enjoyed but not on the menu anymore Lowlights: - Books up for the holidays so grab those reservations when you can

We come to the Cedar Room often as we live nearby and it is pretty hit or miss. More hit than miss…read morebut I would not recommend their draft cocktails. I don't have much to add on that statement besides they never hit. We have come on nights where the service is poor, hard to get a bartender's attention even with no line and the drinks are gross. Some nights, the service is excellent and drinks are incredible! It just depends on who is bartending that night. The cocktail presentation is always very nice. This past Saturday we stopped by to hear the live music (which was really good / oldies rock and roll vibes) and there was no line at the bar! We got a wonderful bartender who made his own rendition of an Aviation for me as they do not have crème de violette. It was very good! Thanks Rudy! (I think it was Rudy?) Very much appreciated the work around and making something up special. My husband got the draft Paloma and it was not good. As I said just don't get the draft cocktails. Overall, would recommend the Cedar Room for great vibes, mostly friendly staff and mostly excellent cocktails (again, just don't get the draft)! We will be back!!

The bartenders & servers is awesome. I just wanted to give attention towards something I have not…read morefelt comfortable with regarding the management. I wanted to share a concern about a recent visit to The Cedar Room. During my time there, I observed a male manager or supervisor interacting with staff in a way that came across as rude, disrespectful, and belittling. Witnessing an employee being spoken to that way in front of guests created an uncomfortable atmosphere and reflected poorly on the overall experience. What made the situation even more disappointing was that after speaking to staff in this manner, the manager spent what appeared to be an extended period of time outside the front of the restaurant talking on his cellphone instead of being present on the floor. I believe employees deserve to be treated with respect, especially in front of guests. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as leadership sets the tone for both the workplace and the guest experience.
