It is so good to see that this restaurant chain still runs as it did when they started in Shasta Lake. Portions are huge to have some to take home. The biscuits are the size of a brick and so light and airy. They are so delicious. The staff are attentive and amazing and never let your drink go to empty. The ONLY reason I gave it any stars is the service was super friendly! Unfortunately, amazing service is not a reason I would go back. Ever. My husband and I have been trying to stay away from any and all chain restaurants, however, our good friends wanted to have their last meal in Colorado at this location. We have never been to a black bear but we knew it was a chain that makes breakfast all day long. Surprisingly the food was good! My husband felt like he messed up by ordering a dipping sandwich - they always disappoint him. BUT, he actually really enjoyed the tip, the tri tip, and loved how cooked his sweet potato fries were. I am very well known to never finish a meal, I could feel like I'm starving, and then I'll only eat maybe 1/3 of the whole plate. NOPE, not this time! I don't know what it was about the Parmesan sourdough burger but it was absolutely flavorful. The meat was well seasoned, the cheeses blended together very nicely. And who would have thought to use sour dough bread, and to crisp the Parmesan on the bread! I will have to try this whenever I make sandwiches it was a nice touch! read more

You can get the same quality of food at any chain restaurant, including Denny's. I had chicken fried steak. It was about what you'd get heating up a TV dinner. It came with homestyle potatoes and two eggs. They were good. The pancake was OK, nothing special. My dad had the tri-tip dip. Nice presentation, but the meat was tough. My other two friends I was with go there regularly. They seemed to enjoy their meals. I was there with my dad. He's 92 and has mobility issues. There's no handicap parking close to the entrance. My first time at a Black Bear Diner! My partner took me here after I had a medical procedure and I was starving. I ordered a plate with scrambled eggs, waffles, and sausage links. The waffle was fluffy and delicious. It was quite a large amount of food for me but my partner helped me finish it. He also enjoyed his breakfast very much. We don't typically go to chains but I'd definitely go here over IHOP or Denny's. I liked the cute forest/bear theme haha. I just got home from Black Bear Diner. I ordered the little less meatloaf dinner. I was surprised when the server asked me whether I wanted a soup or salad. I asked him isn't that extra? He showed me his little computer and said well it's asking. I didn't think I should argue. Surely he knows. Brought my salad, then my meal. All good. Then he came and said the total was $16 something. Did I want to pay cash or card? I was a little shocked because I believe the meal was $11.99 plus tax. So again I didn't argue, I paid by card. I was charged for the salad like I asked and was misinformed. I will not believe the server next time. I had the menu in front of me but he insisted it was included. read more

Hit or miss and trapezoidal food. Some items on the menu really rock and other items are just rocks and stones. Last night was date night with my hubby and he hadn't been here yet. Friday night AYCE fish fry sounded really great and we love fish! Hubby opted for the fries and slaw while I had the steamed veggies and slaw. We also noticed the newest thing on the menu was chili & beans so we ordered a small cup to sample it. The fish served was pollock, not cod. Our fish came out first, nice and hot and it smelled good! Then our chili sample came out and then the hush puppies cuz they forgot those. Our condiments came in little plastic cups and packets because this place cannot clean the exterior of ketchup bottles, malt vinegar bottles and salt and pepper shakers after customers use them, it appears. The chili was standard ground beef and small kidney beans in spicy tomato based sauce with a little kick of cumin and spice. Not bad at all, but 5.99 for a little cup is a bit pricey. First, the fish portions looked like oddly shaped trapezoids but I suppose the fish was cut that way and then breaded afterwards. It was obviously previously frozen and then just thrown in the fryer because almost every portion of fish was overcooked. The first couple tasted good but the breading was really hard and dense cornmeal and I didn't care for so much of it and I began to scrape it off. The ratio was 1:1 of fish and breading and I really didn't like that. The fries my hubby had were nothing special and could have been cooked a couple minutes longer. Now we know why the AYCE fish & chips is all you can eat. Get. Rid. Of. It. The broccoli and carrots were slightly over cooked but really yummy. The coleslaw was boring and needed way more horseradish and vinegar to make it pop!! The hardest hush puppies in the world came out and one sample had me spitting it out. I've heard of Black Bear Diner before, but have never been. When this location opened up, close to my house, I knew that I had to try it. First I want to say that I did not like the online ordering system. There were way too many tabs for the food that I felt could have been simplified. By the time you clicked through all of them you were out 20 minutes, just to see what they offered. My family and I ordered food for delivery and it was delivered in about 45 minutes. Not bad at all! The disappointing part was the food. I ordered the turkey club with no ham thinking I would get double turkey, but no. There was hardly any meat and I felt like I was just eating lots and lots of bread and the bacon tasted off. I ordered a green salad for my side with ranch, in which I got neither. My sister got the chicken tenders, which did not taste great either. Her fries were soggy and there was absolutely no seasoning. My mom, however, enjoyed the taco salad, which was HUGE. There's a new diner in the neighborhood. It's been open a few weeks so we decided to do takeout. Being the first visit we went with a few different things to try so we could get a good general idea of things. We went with Chicken Fried Steak, Meatloaf and a Bacon Cheeseburger. Let's start with Chicken Fried Steak We got the larger sized one because the a good CFS is hard to find. It was certainly an ample portion for 15 and change. The ratio of meat to coating was good. The flavor was nice and it wasn't over deep fried so it was still moist. A sold meal for a big appetite. Served with a corn muffin..moist as well. Salad, seasonal veg and your choice of potatoes. Next up...Meatloaf. The smaller portion was decided for this. It had a good flavor, they add veg to theirs as we found carrots and I think peppers. The portion size is nice and a good sized meal. Also served with salad, corn muffin, potatoes of your choice and seasonal veg. Next up...Bacon Cheese Burger. Always have to try the burger at a new place. This was served on Brioche bun, all the fixings (lettuce, tomatoes, thousand island, bacon, cheese. They put the lettuce and tomatoes on the bottom, always odd to me. Was a good sized burger. Ample fries that unfortunately got a bit soggy on the ride home but were still pretty good. Hard to stay crisp on a short drive and meal box condensation. Solid burger for sure. We got it medium well since was take out. No one wants to.get home to raw burger so was just a safer bet. A few things we noticed as faupax. Salads on top of hot food =wilted lettuce. Putting whipped butter into a closed plastic box with hot muffins makes it melt and unfortunately an unwanted surprise all over yourself when opened. The meals are advertised with seasonal veg or Italian greenbeans. No where on their order online lets you indicate which you want. Not a fan of Broccoli,Cauliflower medly. I'm sure eating in would have been a touch better so right now I give them a solid A-Ok. Breakfast served all day so that may be the next take out adventure. They have a few family meals on the menu as well. One way in and out through a side door to the patio. Tables blocked off as well. This is actually a chain. Finally got to try this joint on a Friday morning here in Denver. I like the setup and the ambiance inside. Very homey. Food didn't take long after ordering and I give it a solid three star. My boyfriend and I started going to Black Bear Diner this year and we love it! Our favorite waitress is Diana :) she is always so welcoming and now knows what we order, which shows she takes pride in her work and loves what she does. How great! The food is always amazing - sweet cream pancakes are TO DIE FOR! I love that they have heavy whipping cream for my coffee (lots of places don't carry it) and Diana is ALWAYS on it topping my coffee off ;) she's the best. TRY THE SANTA MARIA TRI TIP!! Great spot for large groups. Lots of parking. It's conveniently located near the highway and local hotels. A very large menu with something for everyone. We decided to try this diner. It has been open for a while, but we've been trying to support local and small during Covid. We have heard great things about this franchise and wanted to check it out. The price points are very affordable with very large portions. There is also lots of seating options. The restaurant is massive and can definitely accommodate large and small groups no problem. We dined in on a Wednesday morning and it was pretty busy. The service was wonderful and very quick. However the food was just OK. It is not some thing I would crave or go back for on a regular basis. However if there are guests in town and they want some comfort foods and typical breakfast diner items then I would venture back to accommodate a large group dining. We had the grizz feast and a pancake, an egg, a sausage and bacon meal. The scrambled eggs were really over cooked and hard. The pancakes were OK and the bacon and sausage were delicious. I did not feel very comfortable eating at the restaurant. Many other guests near our table just stared awkwardly at us the entire meal and the food was just ok. It's not BBD's fault about the awkward other guests near our table. However it wasn't an enjoyable dining experience for our first time. I want to note that the server was very friendly and had great customer service. Just felt that some of the diners were not used to seeing a diverse couple eating or maybe they just weren't mindful of their constant staring. I will go back again to bring others if others wanted to try BBD and explore more of the menu, but probably not my first choice for breakfast or brunch in Aurora. read more

I don't know what's happening to black bear but it's taking a turn ever since the Macdonald opened up. Also there is a lot of junkies that hang in the area. I say it's because that gas station next door takes EBT and sells some type of laughing gas (that's used to get high) and liquor. read more

I ordered the California Bacon Benedict for my dinner at this location. This dish included sliced avocado as well, and it was quite good. I ordered it with red skinned potatoes. It came with a fruit medley as always. I got a Minestrone soup that was decent. My favorite was having huckleberry ice cream. Huckleberry tastes similar to blueberry but it's sweeter and is more savory. This ice cream flavor is something I normally can only get in Montana or the Pacific Northwest. It's great that it's served at this Black Bear Diner. The service and ambience were also excellent. read more

An honest assessment on the food I ordered today. I ordered the big burger, with bacon, onion rings, slice of chocolate cake and a chocolate pie. Medium rare burger was actually a rare burger, when I got home and looked at it, there were portions of the meat which were raw, uncooked I would guess maybe (if that) 100 degrees and that is being generous. The ground beef, tasted just like ground beef. No seasoning to it, no flavor other ground beef. The pickles were crisp and tasted great, as with the bacon, cheese and lettuce. I did bite into an extremely bitter piece of lettuce and that flavor stayed in my mouth for 15 minutes, even after drinking some root beer. While I prefer fresh onion rings, these were not bad--though no different than buying a bag of frozen onion rings at the store and cooking them yourself. I will say this, the staff are top notch, approachable and cheerful. If i rated, just the staff, it would be 5 stars, no questions. The cake is most likely made elsewhere and not really sure about the pie. I am disappointed with the burger as, and I really, really hate to say this--mcdonalds burgers have more flavor.....and I cannot stand mcdonalds. read more
