I went closer to 1:00 pm and it was like Silver Sneakers have their meetings here!! :) Yes, plenty of mature individuals were dining and the restaurant was clean and spacious and tastefully decorated. My server was a perfunctory mature woman who did her job but never checked on me during my meal. :-/ I wanted chicken fried chicken but chose the grilled salmon over rice with steamed broccoli and baked potato. Keeping it healthy!! My food was good and tasty with my fish being cooked well, not charred to all heck. The broccoli and potato was perfect. My only complaint is that the rice was overcooked and sprinkled with old, dried parsley which looked pretty but tasted bad. Oh, and the iced tea was very weak and tasteless. Super good! We went with a large group and we all ordered of the senior menu. It's one of the best senior menus of any chain restaurant I know of. There's nothing on it more than $20 on the senior menu and most items are in the $15 range. Here's the huge bonus, it includes the price of the drink...and there are free refills! The portions are perfect and rolls are too! I had the grilled catfish. Loved it. Everyone loved our food and the service was fantastic! Huge shoutout to our server, Shellie. She was terrific and really went above and beyond to ensure we had a great dining experience. There aren't as many Black-eyed Pea restaurants around anymore. We had this catered at work and it was not good at all. We had sandwich rolls, a salad, rolls, and cookies. The salad dressings were all super watered down including the ranch and the salad itself was like dripping with water as well. The rolls were like dripping wet with the sauces on them. We had a buffalo, Caesar and BBQ wrap. I tried the buffalo and Caesar and neither were that great. Like I said both were soaked with runny sauce and were soggy. The rolls were fine I mean it's hard to mess up a roll. The cookies were really hard and did not taste good either. I just found this lingering in my drafts from Thanksgiving. I typically fly home for Thanksgiving but this year, I decided to stay in Denver. While searching for a place that serves a Thanksgiving meal, I found a really great deal at Black-eyed Peas. The meal was delicious and included all you can eat rolls, plus a delicious glazed ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry jelly and dessert. I could've also had turkey but I'm more of a ham eater. I was so surprised at how delicious the meal was. Everything from the service to the food was perfection! The Black Eyed Pea is like a comfortable old friend, not too exciting but typically reliable. I first ate at a Black Eyed Pea over 35 years ago in Tulsa, OK. Fell in love with the Chicken Fried Steak. And while I rarely go here anymore I always order the same thing. I went at lunchtime and the restaurant was semi full. Lots of elderly folks, and while I'm in my 50's, not exactly a spring chicken myself LOL, I was probably the youngest patron there. My server was a nice, friendly younger woman and while sweet, I asked about the wine choices and she obviously didn't have a clue and had to go and ask someone what wine options were available. Kinda baffling as I feel servers should be trained to be able to answer all questions regarding the menu. Started with rolls and cornbread. I grew up down South and we ate cornbread with almost every meal, this wasn't good. Dry and crumbly. Needed to be sweeter too, we always added a little sugar to our cornbread and if done correctly it's almost like cake. This was just wrong. I got my standard Chicken Fried Steak with brown gravy (not a huge fan of cream gravy as if not done right it's too floury), mashed potatoes with brown gravy and broccoli rice casserole. The steak was kinda greasy and the sides were kinda bland. Nothing other than the cornbread was bad, it was just okay. I know that down the road I will return if for no other reason for nostalgia, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. read more

I don't know how BEP could ever get anything outside of 10 stars. They have the best comfort food on the entire planet, bar none! I go to BEP whenever I get back home to Denver and this visit was no exception. They have a list of foods too long to even touch on here, but imagine pot roast, pork chops, steak, you name the meat and potatoes and they have it, best you've ever tasted. Black-eyed Pea is really the top when you think about home cooking and comfort food. I came in wanting the chicken tenders that are fried, super tender, crispy on the outside but fork tender on the inside. I asked our server what she recommended because I didn't want to miss anything.....but she recommended the tenders! So I knew what I was getting. I chose mashed potatoes and green beans. The choices of gravy are kind of fun. I chose a regular turkey gravy and my husband chose the jalapeño white gravy on his chicken fried chicken. He loved the unique gravy. I ordered a fat tire because I am off of work for a week, and a beer in the middle of the day seemed awesome. The beer was on tap, perfectly chilled, and hit the spot with my comfort food. Our server was excellent, and our food cooked perfectly. Black-eyed Pea is the standard to which I hold all comfort food in other places! We're done! Horrible service! The food was eatable except for my mom's grizzled piece of liver. They took half off because she ate half. The waitress was never to be found and didn't seem to have many tables. Didn't seem like they took the right amount off so the manager was offered again. This time a different manager came. A guy with a 'tude. Truly that was my last time at BEP. I've been a customer of BEP since about 1974 when Gene Street first introduced the Dixie House in Dallas. It's just what you would expect - diner style food with huge portions at a great price. Don't go in expecting too much and you won't be disappointed. We've eaten here several times because it was right across the street from our apartment and we've never hated anything we've ordered. Clearly run off his feet working the bar, dealing with take out orders etc. I was tempted to put my Apple Watch on him and collect the steps! He would have hit all the fitness goals in no time! Long time BEP fan. Used to be a manager for the Black Eyed Pea. Won't be going back. Ordered through the app tonight, like I've done many times. Great pick up on the way home. Well not anymore. I arrived early for my order, no problem I did not expect it to be ready. The bartender checked in, letting me know it was working. Cool. Not an issue. It was 20 mins after promised when I got it. The tender apologized for the wait. All good. Drive home. Open up the bag and start unloading. Looks like everything is there. But wait, no gravy. Ordered jalapeno cream and regular for my Chicken Fried Steak. They tell you to pick 2. I get none. Can't eat my dinner dry. My wife won't eat if I'm not. So the meal was ruined. Called in asking for my whole meal to be refunded, as none of it is going to be eaten now. Now in my time in the industry for 30+ years all in management, when my restaurant ruined a family's dinner I happily returned their money or didn't charge them. And generally would invite them back on me. This is how guest service is done. No I was told that my family's meal doesn't matter. I get a $20 credit in a book behind the bar. LMAO. Went to blackeyed pea today and will never go back. Waiting in line to be seated was told it would be a 30 min. Wait. Then the managers friends walked in and upon being told it was a 35 min. Wait asked to speak to his friend the manager and was promptly seated while multiple other parties had been waiting for a table. Very unprofessional!!!! I dont understand the low reviews here. We have eaten here probably 2-3 times a week in the past month. I can say it is consistently good food and good service. They are short handed and still take good care of us. We use to go to Texas Roadhouse because of their consistency but the last 3 visits have been terrible. This is our new go to. They have a senior menu that includes drinks. Their chicken fried chicken is great and I love their cod tilapia or mahi mahi. Lots of food and great prices. read more

I order to go here frequently because my family loves the food and it's close to my house. The order is always incomplete. Tonight, when I pointed out an entire meal was missing, the person they sent to deal with me was asking if I ordered correctly so I tried to show him but he interrupted me each time, kept yelling that i had my food, and acted like it was my fault. It was a 6 person order and was missing 1 main dish, 4 sides and 1 drink. Then he brought me the food with no bag and ran back to the kitchen before I could even ask for another bag. I don't know if I can keep coming here if they continue to be so terrible. Isn't there some kind of quality control they could implement with someone who isn't a jerk to customers? read more

Not as good as I remembered it being... The Pea used to be a go-to place for a hearty, home cooked meal, but it seems like everything is just cooked to death now, or at least at this location. The appetizer was a big plate of non-descript, battered and fried, shapes. You couldn't discern between what each item was except for the green beans, and only then because, well, they're green beans. The mozzarella sticks were actually worse than the cheap frozen ones from the groacery store, and the mushrooms were like rubber. Entrees...my chicken fried steak was fried to oblivion. It was so fried that the batter was hard to chew and the meat was dried out. Husband had meatloaf, which was just as sad. A thick slab of dry, tasteless meat with almost no gravy. Child #1 had pot roast, which while decent, is exactly the same thing yiu get prepackaged at the grocery store. Child #2 had a cheeseburger that could have doubled as a doorstop. The sides were ok, not great. The rolls and cornbread were tasty. The waitress was friendly and attentive. My two stars are basically for the waitress and the bread. read more

Consistently good! Hubby loves the Turkey dinner! I love the buffalo chicken wrap. They have great sweet tea and loaded baked potato. My daughter likes the mac n cheese! Corn bread is good and better than our first time when it was crumbly! Also have a large Cobb salad that is good. Ribss could be better. Everything is very filling with portion sizes given!
