Black Bear sends me a free breakfast every year for my birthday, and I wouldn't skip it! I went here on a Sunday at 9am with my mom and grandma. It was actually not as busy as I anticipated, which was nice. I was seated immediately. Our server was very nice and helpful. We oddly caught a weird cold draft in our area although it was freezing outside. She checked on it for us and fixed it, and we were quite comfortable the rest of the time. While I rarely drink juice these days, I would recommend giving BBD's orange juice a try. It is amazing. I normally get some combination of eggs, bacon, and either potatoes or French Toast (the Bear's Choice breakfast gets you a taste of everything!). On this visit, I got French toast. I've found the biscuit and gravy to be pretty decent, and the waffles to be a lot denser than I'd prefer. Their pancakes are delicious, but pretty heavy--just a heads up if you prefer light and fluffy. I love their portion sizes and how quickly the food comes out of the kitchen. Their little shop is also very cute and fun to browse. I'll keep coming to BBD for breakfast and recommend you give it a go too! read more

This is such a cute little diner! I love all the bear themed decor! Super cute! It's just like a Dennys as far as the food goes, so I already assumed that going in. The food was good for the price. I got a club sandwich and my boyfriend got pancakes and lumberjack breakfast and it was a great meal for a quick lunch! Also they have a little area to purchase some bear themed goodies. One of my breakfast faves! If you come at an earlier time or when they open you can enjoy your meal and it's not too busy. The prices are very affordable and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The food wasn't long at all the be prepared and came on a hot plate. Tam was our server and is such a sweetheart. She's attentive, and consistently checks in to make sure you're ok. I haven't been here in years, but I was told their breakfast is really good and to come back for that, so I did. I ordered the meat lovers omelette and substituted the biscuit for a pancake because I heard they were amazing! The sevice was fast, our waitress was nice, but I was disappointed with what I ordered. For a meat lovers omelette there was hardly any meat, it was mostly egg, and it had white cheese which I've personally never had an omelette come with white cheese so overall it was just meh. The potatoes were undercooked, flavorless, and the pancake...now that WAS good! I dont think coming to a place just for their pancakes is worth it to me, so I probably wont be coming back anytime soon. read more

MY NEW FAVORITE BRUNCH SPOT!!! I can't believe they have so many locations in CA and I had never tried it. I always stuck to Norms, ihop, or Original Pancake House, but not anymore!! If you ever are starving for brunch/breakfast and want a hearty meal, do yourself a favor and order The Grizz at Black Bear. I seriously never get tired of it. The Grizz is the best bang for your buck. You get eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes, and hash browns. The portion size is big enough for me to have 2 meals. What I love most about Black Bear is their pancakes. I've taken so many friends here and they also agree the pancakes are to die for. I'm usually a waffle person, but these pancakes are the best I've had anywhere. Fresh, fluffy, and flavorful. I've ordered their waffles before, but it's basically their pancake texture in the shape of a waffle so don't order the waffle. Their display at the front of pies and other baked goods always look amazing, but I'm usually too full to order it. I definitely have to try it one day. The customer service here is great too, the waiters/waitresses are always very attentive and on top of it with refilling drinks. This is an updated review. I suggest never come here for lunch! I work down the street and have an hour lunch. We stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes waiting to be seated. Finally a girl comes up and says ill be back. Then the manager comes up at the same time she comes back. The manager was curious. The girl not so much. We ordered immediately after being seated. Took 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. And our food did not come for 40 minutes. The place was not that even close to being busy. Because of their slow service I ended up getting written up for being late to work. I will never come back here again. read more

Ok. So I talked to a few people I work with yesterday about where I could go eat on a Thanksgiving day. Both people said it was kind of a hit and miss. So I went today. TOTAL MISS. I live in Salt Lake City and I'm pretty sure they stole half of the salt from the Great Salt Lake. Every single item was WAY over-salted. My portion of turkey was smaller than to be expected. The green beans with bacon/onions were mushy, the stuffing seemed to have been reconstituted in water (stove-top stuffing would have been WAY better). The potatoes were actually recognizable as potatoes. So...why two stars? The wait staff were decent and they comped my meal which means I will go back for a second time as I've heard their breakfast items are more hit than miss. I tried this restaurant chain for the first time. I ordered the chicken fried steak which appeared to be their signature dish. I got a plate covered in liquid "gravy". The patty was soaking wet (see picture). After insisting that they redo it with actual gravy and not soaking wet, it was edible but very underwhelming. The gravy is from a bag. No real flavor. The patty was obviously from a pre-made frozen facility. The mashed potatoes were made from red potatoes which is a weird choice since red potatoes get very sticky/gummy in mashed potato form. The highlights were the salad (good blue cheese dressing) and the extremely tasty corn on the cob. I would not recommend! I have to be honest. This restaurant was very disappointing since we had gotten a recommendation from a friend to try it out. We are traveling back home to Arkansas. While I listed my thoughts on the food (above) which had little positives, the restaurant was also trashy. Bits of paper and food on the floor, a table next to us was being used as a dump-all for clearing other tables. It was piled like 18 inches high. I've never seen anything like that before. The waitress was very nice though.  I think the most disappointing thing is that I actually live close to your Fayetteville, AR location and was thinking of trying it sometime. Not now! read more

Our servers name was Kya or Kaia perhaps, it's 1:00pm on Saturday December 23rd and their service was absolutely impeccable. I've come to this one only for a couple years they serve the best for food prep and how it's made. Ordered the frizz eggs were raw besides the outlayer keeping the three together asked to have them replaced and I was told to make sure to ask for over MEDIUM!? What never heard that phrase a day in my life got sourdough it's white bread. They say it's sour dough and I'm not gonna argue with em but altogether service just ain't what it use to be. Had two ladies yell at service to get them seated while sitting here as well not sure what's going on. Super sad. read more

We were traveling and tired of burgers, so it was nice to get some real food here. My wife and I both got the smaller portion meat loaf and it tasted great and nice portion size. The kids meal items were super cheap but plenty of food and free ice cream. Great food, good service, at a great price for a family. The only reason I put a 4 and not a 5, is that the restaurant was kind of plain and felt dated in appearance, but we would definitely go again, and we did go again two days later at a different location. read more

I have been to the Black Bear in Bountiful Utah and the Draper Utah location. What a difference? The Bountiful location is pretty good, nothing to write home about but not bad. The Draper location, just terrible. We were there with another couple and we all sent our food back for either being cold or just not tasting good at all. I went to the Draper location many years ago and nothing has changed. Guess I have a bad memory. If you feel the need to eat at a Black Bear stay away from the Draper location. read more

Service was bad as soon as we walked in. The lady to seat us saw us walk in and didn't greet or say anything. After standing there for a while she finally came and sat us down. We have been to black bear a lot and we love it so we knew what we wanted within 10 mins. No one talked to us and all of the waitresses looked lost, one waitress (i would assume she would've been ours) ran passed us 5 times. No "hi" or "I'll be right with you." We were sitting there for almost 30 minutes no one said anything, as we looked around it seemed that all of the employees were talking in the kitchen, while there was a group of people waiting to be seated and not being helped as well. There are so many yummy things to choose from, so I'll make it easy for you. I highly recommend their famous bear claw, or better yet, the bear claw french toast. You haven't had french toast until you've had it in bear claw form. It's not overly sweet, yet remains wonderfully decadent. It's light, warm, fluffy, and everything you could ever want in a cozy cabin breakfast. Order it with a hot coffee or cocoa, and you'll be in heaven! They also have a cute gift shop section. I don't know why this location is so bad. I don't think I have had a positive experience here in years. I went for lunch with a friend a few days ago and 2 of the 4 meals were bad. My friends child got a sandwich that was undercooked and tasted a little funny. My child got pancakes that were raw in the middle and came out way after the rest of the food. The service leaves something to be desired. They didn't even try to get the drinks to the person who ordered them. She came out and set all the drinks in the middle of the table and let us take what was ours. I love Black Bear but not at this location. read more

My family and I go to this Black Bear Diner location a lot and after our terrible service yesterday with server named Cassie, that was the final straw. We will never return to a Black Bear Diner again after what happened yesterday. Every time we go, every server is high on something, cracked out. Yesterday, Cassie, our server was high on something (it was clear as day to everyone who was waiting on her service) and she first snatched the menu out from under me which I thought was weird, but whatever. Then, she spills iced tea and ice all over our table because she was so high and shaky. She started using her hands to throw the ice on the ground which was really odd. My husband I just looked at each other like WTH is going on in this place?! Then, our lunch took over 30 minutes to get to us because all the junkies were laughing with the cooks while no one even made our food. IF I COULD ZERO STARS I WOULD. NEVER AGAIN WILL OUR FAMILY GO TO ANY BLACK BEAR DINER. TOO MANY TWEAKERS WHO ARE CRACKED OUT AND CAN'T EVEN DO THEIR JOB. SO SAD. SEND THEM TO REHAB. She got ZERO TIP.
