So when we checked in, we received vouchers that were included with our room package. We went down and were seated right away. Very friendly greeting. Our vouchers were collected as we entered. This was around 8am. There was one low sugar yogurt, some oatmeal, some granola, vanishes, bagels, eggs, potatoes, bacon, and fruit. My inlaws came after and were paying for the buffet. When they checked in, they were told it was $14 a person so no biggie. By 9am (it closes at 10), there was no eggs, no yogurts, and low on drinks and other danishes. Bagels were also gone. This had been this way for at least 30 minutes before we left. Nothing was refilled! When my inlaws got their bill, it says 24 dollars a person. When they asked our server, they said that the hot dishes on the buffet add $10 more on the weekends. This wasn't disclosed by the front staff at all. In fact when my father in law went to the front desk after, they said since they were guests it was only $14 a person. They are adjusting their room bill accordingly. We were overcharged for three breakfast items. Food was ok. In addition, the Marriott hotel staff appear to mislead guests with vouchers, as Marriott Club M does not serve the promised food. Surprisingly good for a Marriott restaurant I started with a cup of NE Clam Chowder that was your standard fare but full of tender crab meat. Ordered the Grilled Pork Chop with asparagus and fried polenta and was so glad I did as the server warned me that it would take some time due to being thick...yay! Boy was it thick! And perfectly cooked medium rare too! It had an apple compote that was a nice touch. The asparagus were small, tender and yummy and the polenta was creamy in the middle with a nice crispy outside. Really enjoyed the meal. Glad I get to stay here often. read more

Breakfast at Thistle & Thyme. The environment itself was nice. Food: Husband ordered the 'All American' = two eggs any style with potatoes, choose bacon or sausage, and toast, includes coffee... $15 == small eggs, potatoes where fried with a sugar coating, potatoes where good but wasn't expecting to get a sugar load. The bacon was not good at all, this wasn't bacon anymore it was very over fried. He couldn't sub the eggs for a pancake .... so he ordered a pancake on the side which was your typical American delicious pancake. The toast was ... wel a toast. I ordered the 'Avocado Toast, grape tomatoes, red onion spring mix... $15 (add an egg any style for an additional... $1' == it was way too salty. I am the first person to season my food with a lot (really a lot) of pepper and salt but this was just too much. Not worth the $15. It would have been a lot nicer if it would've come with smoked salmon. Service: they refilled the coffee constantly which was really nice. But after giving them our credit card and asking for coffee to go, it took them forever to come back to us. We eventually asked 4times to 3 different people... The $20 buffet was probably a better option as the menu itself is rather limited. Will not recommend. Also; somebody else complaint about his egg, he ordered sunny side up but it wasn't a sunny side up so he rightfully complaint. They gave hima new egg but it still wasn't a sunny side up. The manager here is beyond horrible!!! Waited, kept asking, for their drink special ... it never came. They weren't busy either!! He kept promising that I'd be next but those were just lies. When he Finally Did start my drink, he left for 5 minutes to get juice, he kept shaking it until it was nothing but froth ( a margarita) and I kept asking him to stop but he wouldn't. He knew I was due back in the conference and was purposely being slow. When I took a sip . It was nothing but sour sour sour, no juice or alcohol. Never come here!!!! read more

We dined at the breakfast buffet and at $23 per person, you'd expect something nice, but in all honesty, it's far inferior to a Super 8 and actually, kind of gross. The eggs were stone cold...steam cooked for that weird texture no human being enjoys. Pork sausage was so dehydrated it looked and had a similar texture to a Cheeto you found 10 years into the apocalypse. The potatoes, also cold, were ultra salted. You'd have a better mouth flavor if you mouth breath in the ocean waves or licked the railing of an ocean cruiseliner. The muffins looked moist, but that was a mirage...once touched they crumbled into a desiccated pile of lumpy dust. Was the food procured from some time capsule that was just unearthed? We met here for a party and boy did we have fun. The wate staff was very nice but a little unorganized. Their menus were half new and half old menus. So if we wanted something we had to double check that it was actually on the menu. Same goes for the drink menus. But once we all ordered our food and finally got it all it was absolutely delicious! My roasted chicken was very tender and juicy. And my friends seafood curry dish was so delicious she said it was the best that she has ever had! And the tots poutine I got for the appetizer was pretty good as well. Overall it's definitely a place I will come back to. Hopefully they will be more organized next time. read more

I went to a PaintNite at Wakara Bar. Sat down with the intent of just painting and not eating anything because I wasn't hungry. Then everyones food started to come out. The delicious smells started to float through the whole room. It was settled. I was ordering food!! Every dish that I saw looked really good and visually appealing. I ended up ordering the cobb salad and the brussel sprouts. I had a hard time painting and not just eating the food. It was delicious!! Wow, what a wonderful surprise! Arrived late in Salt Lake City, did not want to go outside for dinner. So, ate in hotel restaurant and the food and service were not just excellent but beyond excellent. Usually I avoid hotel food whenever possible due to generally low quality and high cost. The soup of the day was gumbo. Their gumbo was way better than any I have ever had, even in the best (meaning best food, both expensive places and local neighborhood) restaurants in New Orleans, elsewhere in Louisiana, or anywhere else. I love gumbo, theirs is in a class by itself. Also had the daily special fried chicken, also equal to the best I have had in the South, where they know how to cook fried chicken. Amayranitge, the server was charming, efficient and handled a tiny problem: soup not served quite hot with grace,speed and charm. We recently moved to California. Where we live now, in Rancho Mirage, there are lots of splendid restaurants, none better than Thistle & Thyme, so far at least. Prices seem quite reasonable too. read more

We are so happy to have found this place. Despite the reviews that must have been given under another chef, or staff, this place blew us away. The staff was overwhelmingly nice. There was no shortage of attention to our table, even the chef came out to say hello. This chef knows what he is doing. It's hard to find good seafood this far inland but the salmon was excellent and my NY strip unreal. We will definitely be going back. Amazingly talented chef and top notch staff. read more

Food is decent. Gets the job done when you are traveling for work or visiting for school stuff. The wine menu is great. The food menu is limited but has something for everyone. The waitress I had was really nice and the service was great. Mostly people visiting for work. If you don't wanna leave to bear the cold... eat here to keep it easy. We cannot praise him enough, his energy, and sense of humor fit right in with ours and he held up his own when it came to bantering with my dad. He made the experience so wonderful! Staying here for a conference so stopped in for lunch. The restaurant is nice but our order was all screwed up the waiter didn't write anything down. Being that we were under a time crunch we ate it. Thistle & Thyme is a great place hidden in the Salt Lake Marriot Hotel on the U of U campus. I was treated like an old lost friend and my every need attended too. The Lamb Chop Lollipops where outstanding as well as the Pistachio Crusted Salmon. I will be dinning there again for sure!!! read more

WAKARA BAR! Great hotel bar! The staff (Julio, Hilda and Jesus) are exceptional. If you ever feel lonely in your hotel room, go say hi to them, they'll make you feel right at home. The shrimp cocktail and wings are my favorite thing on the menu. They also have a great wine selection. FYI you cannot order drinks at the bar and take them up to your room. Spend your hard-earned money and leisurely evening somewhere else! Met up with friends from Rhode Island who suggested the place, because it was nearby. Two of us got salmon, one of us had the pasta with seafood (minus chorizo), and one got a sandwich. The food was bland - so bland! Seemingly no spices on salmon, nothing on the pasta. Two clams didn't even open up, what a joke. Service was definitely below average, barely came by, who doesn't try to get people to order a second glass of beer or wine?! Pretty expensive after everyone gets just one drink anyway. Vegan or vegetarian - don't even bother. Only eat here if you want mediocre (at best) service and pricy, below average food. I stay at the Marriott where this restaurant is located every month. I keep hoping it will improve, but unfortunately it does not. 2 months ago they had delightful miso carrots on the menu and I was hooked on them. Today I ordered the carrots with fingering potatoes and a spinach side salad. I was so disappointed they changed the carrots to make them bland and boring. The fingering potatoes had no flavor, which would have been quite easy to do. The spinach salad was okay....at least the leaves were fresh. I would give the restaurant 2 stars for the food, but the service was great.... Unfortunately when they get the food right, it disappears off the menu. I hope the food improves to align with the service levels. read more

The atmosphere here is awesome. Looks amazing inside and is a cool place to eat. However, our cocktails tasted super watered down. I had chicken and waffles and the skin on my chicken was almost impenetrable. Had to crack it open and peel the skin off to eat it. I might go back for lunch or breakfast and try something else. Ate in the bar area several times prior to our recent stay at Marriott. Menu had changed, but "Greens" as entrée are still available. When we ordered salad this time, one with salmon and the other with steak, both portions were much smaller than what we had there in the past. We mentioned it to waiter and said we would be back next day. Ordered a different Green from the entrée and portion was just as small. This time, the leaves of salad were left whole and draped on the plate to create the illusion of a large portion. Salad dressing as a couple of drops that seemed almost accidental. However, they always bring extra dressing when you ask. My husband had a steak with lots of grizzle and a side salad for less than half the price of my entrée salad. Wonderful food, great service, and with-it. Easy location to get to. Located in basement of the Marriot University Park hotel. In spite of a very late night arrival mere minutes before the grill closed the food was impeccable. A more than capable staff oversaw the bar with specific recomendations for signature beers to accompany the menu choices. We felt attended to but not smothered. The descriptions of the menu items facilitated decisions and the follow up on the choices we had selected was also well timed. They have a number of starters, entrees and sandwiches, but you don't end up reading a book with too many choices. The assistance with our leftovers was also gratefully appreciated. I booked a night at the Marriott and decided to just stay and eat dinner here. I was promptly greeted by the bartender Alisa, who allowed me to take taste wines before I ordered a glass, which was very nice so I didn't get a glass of something I didn't like. She was very attentive. I sat in the bar area and had a waiter , Josiah, address me if I was interested in another glass of wine and offered a menu as well. The menu had lots of options from a beet salad, lamb meatballs and a delicious sounding hamburger. Josiah came to take my order in a timely manner and told me of the specials. One was a steak dish and the other was a wonderful sounding exotic mushroom risotto with white truffles! I chose the risotto and was very delighted with my choice, it was creamy, with slices of exotic mushrooms, a definite delight. I also ordered a side salad which was delicious as well with homemade croutons and nice mixed greens. Nicely decorated restaurant. I was pleased with the menu selections. I ordered the organic roast chicken which comes ala carte but does not say so on the menu. Fortunately I asked, so I ordered a side salad and fingerling potatoes. My salad was average. After my salad, the server brought out my fingerling potatoes without the chicken. 10 minutes later there is still no chicken So I asked and was told that he didn't realize I had ordered the chicken. Who orders a salad and fingerling potatoes for dinner? Another 10 minutes later still no chicken. The server said he would go check on it. Finally five minutes later my chicken comes out. It looks like it has jaundice. I cut into the chicken, take one bite and really lize it's not fully cooked. As I cut deeper into the chicken I can see red blood seeping out. I call the server over who takes it back to the kitchen. He comes back out and tells me that the chicken is fully cooked and it's just from the chicken being marinated. I didn't buy it. I have never left a bad review for any restaurant in my life. I have also never not left a tip (even with bad service) until tonight. The service at this place was absolutely terrible. Fortunately, they brought the wine we ordered within a reasonable time. But that was it. We sat around for an hour and a half without the waiter coming back to our table. There were people being seated, then leaving because they simply weren't being waited on. It wasn't busy at all. There were approximately 14 people in the entire restaurant and I saw at least 4 people who were wait staff walking around. I finally walked up to the guy and asked if he would just ring us up for the wine and he said "yeah sorry, my kitchen is crazy tonight". The place wasn't even close to half full. Then another waitress asked me if we would like to talk to the manager. I saw the guy who was most likely the manager (shirt and tie different than the wait staff). Why would I want to talk with him? He was obviously part of the problem. I wasn't out with my wife on a Saturday night to explain to the manager how bad of a job he was doing. Poorly managed to say the least. I could go on, but need the aggravation to end. Overall, i would be firing many if I had anything to do with that show. Never again. read more
