It was good, I had the Bruce's meat omelette and sliced bacon on the side. My ticket time was about 25 minutes , they were busy but, I was extremely hungry at the time and was wondering if I was going to get my food. Curbside is not curbside. You will walk in and awkwardly not know where to go, so you stand in line with people who ate-in and request your order from the cashiers. I've dined in here too.. the wait staff is friendly is just some of the cashiers and front staff that are a little stand off ish, I mean, for people who I'm used to enthusiastically greeting me. Love this place! Very sad,however, that they removed their home style chicken dinner from their menu. It was my favorite meal.

I have been coming here for years and always had a good meal but my last two visits really made me want to find another place. The service went from great to mediocre, I spent more time waiting for a refill than I did drinking, they brought out our order and said be right back with the pancakes, had to remind them than by the time they came everyone was done and the pancakes were smaller, thinner and undercooked. I really like this place but if these changes are permanent I'll be looking elsewhere. read more

Went here a week or so ago for the first time with friends and loved it! The atmosphere is really cute and quaint, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious! The waitress answered any questions we had, especially mine since I was lactose intolerant so some foods / drinks wouldn't fly with my digestive system sadly. We ordered the chicken fried steak tonight it is normally one of our favorites HOWEVER they changed the recipe and NOT for thr better. The chicken fried steak was totally different in texture and taste. The country sausage gravy was runny, and thin had no sausage and really no taste. Very disappointed read more

I just ordered a turkey dinner to go from the Glendale blackberry. I had requested the gravy on the side and mashed potatoes. When I got home some of the food was missing, There must have been at least 2 cups of gravy poured all over everything! After cleaning off the food the turkey was either very old or so over cooked I had to spit out my first bite. The potatoes also had a very bad flavor that tasted like dish water. Also I ordered a apple pie and the crust was so hard it took a lot of force just to break it and it was like chewing on dried strips of Crisco! Worst food I have ever eaten there!!@ read more

The biscuits and gravy - bland gravy and old biscuits. Bear claw - day old, if not more. Hash browns were under-cooked. Odd because the one thing that should have been hard and crispy was cold and mushy. Not impressed. read more

Just sat at Black Bear and was there for over an hour to have HORRIBLE service and TERRIBLE food. Mom ordered a pancake with poached eggs and the pancake had sat under the heat lamp for some time as it was hard. Sister ordered the eggs Benedict with scrambled eggs... the eggs were an omelette?! I ordered oatmeal that was served cold and looked like it sat there for sometime after it was cold. Went we asked for the brown sugar we had to wait quite a while. The server went on to accuse the fact that they were short handed... there was only one table with people when we walked in. We were the only ones there at the time. The ambiance was awful as since it got busy since we were there it was noisy and the table on either side of us were smokers. Go somewhere else instead of Black Bear!!!! read more

My husband and I have been eating the hungry-man size meals here for a number of years. Always leave feeling like we need to curl up under a tree (like a cuddly bear). To my surprise they (our server and the mgr) even had their kitchen whip up a banana coconut cream pie for me to take home. I'd just mentioned that I never saw that combo on any menu and voila - I had one in front of me. To terrific I was speechless. LOVE this place and the people that make you feel at home. I ate at the black bear diner @ 6039 W bell rd in Glendale Az this morning. They show pictures of food on a place mat and you have to look up the prices on a very small piece of newspaper. I believed the 2 eggs , 2 sausage & 2 pancakes was 12.19. When I got the bill it came out to $17.17 + tax for a total of $18.92. This is way overpriced. And could only eat 1 sausage patty because it was much too Salty. They use the bait & switch tactic when advertising their food. If I could give a half or a quarter of a star, I would, but this website doesn't allow you to do that !!! I'll never eat here. And I won't recommend this establishment to anyone I know!!! read more

Mothers Day Breakfast....we waited about 2 hours to get seated. No problem as they don't take reservations f9r Mother's Day. After finally being seated out food came out almost another hour later. We were a party of six. I ordered Eggs Benedict with country potatoes. When food came I tasted a piece of country potato first. It was hard and cold. The English muffin was very cold, with egg extremely slimy, cold, and hollandise sauce was also cold and almost ransid. It was beyond the worst breakfast I've had ever. UPDATE:::;; So they left a response and I did what they asked and still have not heard anything back. So sad we loved that place and the biscuits and gravy were awesome but with a response then no contact when I responded and left a message with my phone number like they asked to still not receive a call is very bad management. Do they not realize the power of the word of previous guests. Heck I am also in the hospitality field if I were to ever treat my guests like this I would not have a job. My family have been to this location on many occasions with no problems until today, my children wanted to take me out for Mother's Day. We showed up a little before 8am waited till o8:30am for a table which was understandable because of the holiday, we then got seated at a table basically a booth for 5 adults, they then took our order just before 9am we then sat there until after 10 am still waiting for our food as we watched and waited as several families came and went after. The food finally about 11am and was cold not even warm. It was cold enough we just asked for Togo containers and there were quick to clear the plates as soon as we put them in the containers. That was a good way to make my Mother's Day miserable. My children kept apologizing to me but it was not their fault. When my Daughter in law went to complain they would not even so concern or even apologize. This was the first time in several years that we had a problem and the way they handled the situation was by far the worst look at the management I have ever seen. I am really disappointed because that was my late husband's favorite restaurant and where I had several good memories and 1 very crappy experience has tainted that. I don't know if I will ever go back there for the fact how they treated me on Mother's Day or how they treated my kids when they tried to remedy the situation.. The General Manager really need to examine their manager team this morning and look into either retraining or starting over with their staff. Cathy R. After eating here for 20 years, I am finally walking away from black bear diner on bell road. We have had a bad experience the last 4 times. It's only because we love this place that we kept coming back, hoping it would change. ITS THE COOKS, the food is either under cooked or burned. We came tonight to have breakfast for dinner. Only 5 people in the whole place and brought me raw bacon and sausage, and over cooked pancakes. I'm done, 50 bucks and time I will never get back. Had myself some cinnamon roll French toast and it was incredible also, had some real homemade humongous hash browns which was so fresh and so crispy cred finished up with couple eggs over easy and fruit cup. Black bears to some really good comfort food and I love going in there and have for a long time. The service is really friendly and the food is all fresh. To get up in the Northwest Valley or near one of their locations it is definitely worth a stop as you will not be disappointed in out of their breakfast lunches or dinners as you two have any of the above anytime you want. read more

I ordered online and was able to pickup in Carside to go. The waffle was very good as was the sausage. Eggs were fair. I also ordered the fresh baked bear claw, classic with almond filling. Over the last 10 years have gone to Black Bear for breakfast and it was very good. but today it was really bad. Had a late breakfast about noon ordered less breakfast for smaller eaters. Bacon was hours old and way over done. waitress said she would have them make it again and never got it for me. 2 eggs were also over cooked and tough. Pancakes we're ok but very small I did eat them and coffee was ok. I did complain to waitress and they made an adjustment of $2.75 on my bill. still not happy it will be awhile before I go back. prices for breakfasts our out of sight these days. read more

Food - Breakfast - I wanted to have a treat one morning and remembered how wonderful breakfast was here in my past visits to the area. Well, the morning I went was the WORST breakfast one could ever NOT want to have. The eggs over medium were barely cooked and all watery with the egg white. The bacon was so overcooked it one of the pieces was very burnt and that just leaves one with a terrible taste in the mouth. Even the country red potatoes were not all that good being very under cooked making them hard and not soft and the amount served was about half of what one got in the past. The toast was good but not sure it was buttered. I brought my issue with the eggs to the attention of the waitress and she brought me new eggs - still not cooked "medium" which usually means no runny white -- but NO --- still had some runny white in both eggs. Obviously it is now hard to get a good breakfast cook. I'm going to be looking for a better breakfast place. I just can't pay and "dollars" "hoping" to get a good breakfast because once it is in front of you, why waste time having terrible items being replaced when other items on the plate are getting cold. They used to have great dishes at reasonable prices but now the prices are higher and the quality is lower. They are using cheaper cuts of meat and giving less food. We were getting a lot of takeout here and half the time, we were missing items that were supposed to be included. Sad to see this happening. read more
