Biscuits and gravy aint worth it!! Biscuits are huge, and gravy is very little. Not worth the money.

I had the most disgusting, homophobic, experience tonight at this location. After a sub par dinner with my family, where we were celebrating a special occassion, our waitress was extremely inattentive. I politely suggested to our cashier, another younger woman, that perhaps our waitress could possibly use some upselling training. We would have gladly spent more money had she offered a dessert menu, which I was asking for and suggested. We come to this restaurant regularly, and easily spend $40-60 each time we are there, 3-4times a week. Our food was not served correctly, we were never asked if we wanted drink refills, and we were completely dismissed the entire time we were there. I was waiting for my family to come out of the restrooms, when I overheard the cashier speaking to our waitress about the constructive criticism I offered to her about upselling. Our waitress then spoke very loudly "Then they should have said they wanted something else! I even asked them if they wanted anything else (which was not correct). Ugh They are stupid Lesbian Lovers anyway and come in all the time, they are horrible!!!" At this point I was beyond hurt, disgusted and pissed off. Our young child was there walking out when they said the last part. I will NEVER return to this restaurant again and I'm urging all my friends and family across the Country to stay away from this Diner chain. THIS family does NOT deserve that kind of service, especially because we have always been kind, respectful to our waitresses and tipped well. We will NOT support this homophobic restaurant!!! read more

I haven't been to a black bear diner in probably a decade so I thought I would stop in and have some breakfast. I ordered the hobo Omelet and swapped the onions for tomatoes and it was fantastic. I tried the strip hashbrowns and they showed up crispy and delicious. The meal was delicious and the service was friendly and fast. We order from here almost every other week. The quality is normal pretty decent. But today was a BIG miss. Idk if things have changed within the kitchen but I ordered the Bigfoot chicken friend steak to go and it was literally the smallest patty I have ever seen. The scrambled eggs were runny. The has browns were burnt on one side and under cooked on the other. My cold brew coffee was very water and lacking that sweet cream flavor it normally has. This was our second visit and being initially impressed, we returned for fried fish. The sweet potato fries ROCK and was the best part of the meal. There is a lack of seasoning making the food bland: the coleslaw was very underdressed: the only thing that saved it was the tarter sauce for the fish (don't go there). Service was good but the table was poorly washed and the newsprint menu had obviously been used prior as it was food stained. We will be sampling other Black Bear Diner locations and hope the problems are location based and not systemic. read more

I signed my phone number up for the wait list, got the alert that my table was ready after waiting 20+ minutes, but when I walked up, they gave my table to the guy who walked in right before me who never checked into the waitlist. She came back, I said I was Rebecca for 1, and she asked me to prove I was the one who received the alert. Apparently the guy in front of me walked up, asked for a table for one, hostess said "Rebecca?" He said yes, and she walked off with him. She admitted she'd asked him to confirm his name was Rebecca, he did, and she said she was confused but went with it. I then had to wait longer for a table. Please get a policy in place to confirm text check ins, this is frustrating that someone can just walk in, claim to be someone else, and take that reservation. They didn't remove him from the table and make him wait properly for one, I had to wait, again, for my table. read more

Finally visited Black bear diner, one of the very few sit down restaurants in Laveen. Our party of 4 visited around 10am on a weekday and had to wait a few minutes to be seated because there was no hostess. There were actually 3 groups waiting to be seated and with lots of empty tables it didn't make for a great first impression but fear not, the food is great! Our waitress was lovely, I don't recall her name but she was attentive, able to answer questions about the menu items and was available whenever we needed anything, very personable overall. The service was great and the food was also great! Big portions of everything especially the pancakes and omelettes. I will say, they did not cook my eggs scrambled soft (they were dry and overcooked to my liking) but hey, everything else was delicious. Definitely will be back again. Our group really enjoyed it. P.S Not also that if you're watching your diet you can substitute tomatoes or fruit side instead of potatoes, always helpful. read more

I called from another phone and asked for a manger, and was told they don't have a manager. They female asked why did I need to speak to a manager. I said because I have been trying to make an order and the call keeps getting disconnected. Got hung up on again. This isn't the first time I have had issues with this location. I must say now I know why this location is always busy!! I was very shocked to see how amazing the food, service was. The fresh orange juice is Fantastic so is the tea. Myself and husband absolutely LOVED the food!! I honestly ate my whole plate ( I never do that ) and they have healthy portions. It's staff is so Polite & friendly , although it's a busy place the staff here is on it. Management has made a great team of servers here. They should be proud!! When I got here I was amazed at how many different things there were on the menu. I took forever to choose but I finally came up with getting a western burger within bacon. My wife got pork ribs with onion rings and my mother had the beef stew with vegetables. The burger and beef stew were amazing but we can't say the same for the ribs. This is NOT a legitimate place to get your rib fix. The meat was super tough and seasoned badly, and the bbq sauce was overly sweet. The food is exceptional at this location. You will not go wrong with any of the breakfast orders. The pancakes are the best and bacon is delicious (best I've ever had). Unfortunately, like with everything, their wait times are very slow and service is subpar. In this new age, there is no excuse for slow/bad service. They make no effort for urgency and wait times are approximately 45 minutes on a mediocre day and up to 1 1/2 hours on a sat/sun morning. This is my favorite place to eat and I'm so glad they came to Laveen. We had the pleasure of having Jordan as our server again.He is very attentive. The food was excellent. My dad and I have been to this location a couple of times. Today he decided to take my daughter out for breakfast. Mind you she drove all the way from Gilbert to have breakfast with her grandpa. The waitress came by to take their beverage order and dropped off the beverages shortly thereafter. After waiting for several minutes she came back to take their order. They waited and waited for their food to arrive. The waitress came by to refill their drinks and didn't see her for another 30 minutes or so. After waiting for 40 minutes my dad finally asked the waitress about their food and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. They obviously lost their order in the kitchen so instead of the manager coming by and owning the mistake and apologizing to them for the delay they got nothing. They both got up and walked out without getting any food. The hostess apologized after my daughter told her of the situation. We will never go back! read more

This particular locations customer service and attentiveness to care was absolutely unacceptable. The way the food was packed more than likely was freshly done (Plus there) however the way that it was packed things were not properly considered. A side of protein was separately packaged and placed in the bag carelessly to then have the juices and grease to leak out. With it being in a brown paper bag, it took a bit of time to show but once I placed the food in my vegan leather car the brown bag stood no chance for that grease. The urgency for such from the front host was very nonchalant and passive when presenting the issue. Manager Sam listened to the issue and expressed that he was new and that the care must change. I was very disappointed in such considering that this was a very big over sight that cost me more to patronize this establishment than I would've liked to. One detailing cleaning bill later and I'm out almost $200 for poor customer service and a waste of monies. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes was the worst thing ever. The mashed potatoes were completely cold out of the refrigerator and the steak was beyond fried. Against my usual review I'm starting with the negative. I was expecting absurdly large dishes because the word "bear" is in the name of the diner. I'm not a bear of a man, but I'm tall and I can eat a lot... and I need to eat a lot. Don't stop me. I'll eat you. So I found the portions to be disproportional to implied proportions........ wait.... Anyways! Lovely diner! Spacious and lots of options! This place has a lot of history they happily share with you on the menu, although to my knowledge this specific location is new. I took some new friends here to say "thanks for being my friends." They were a beautiful couple in their 80's. I highly recommend going to diners with people over the age of 70, for some reason it makes the food taste better and you're bound to hear some amazing stories. If you're curious, I got the Blazin' Bear Sandwich and thus my initial complaint. The description makes it seem like it's going to be insane and filling... and it was quite small. My male friend got a burger, and my female friend got a salad. Everyone was pleased, but as I mentioned... I was underwhelmed. The service was great! And there's plenty of parking! 5:30pm Walked in was nervous cause the parking lot was empty. Seen reviews and went in. Sat down asked for strawberry lemonade. She went and made one from scratched in a old milk shake machine. That was awesome very smart. The burger was good I ordered medium and it was medium. The tri tip dip sandwich wasn't the greatest but wasn't the worst thing. But the mgmt at this restaurant has went down every time I go and service just gets worse and I must not be the only one because it is less people at restaurant now and it is very sad! They had one person working the register, takeout and sitting people - I waited 15 minutes and the lady just kept checking people out and not seating anymore! So just left! And others walked out.
