I've watched and continued to support but this place has gone downhill. This morning a server didn't hear me say good morning so he confronted me about it and said, " I said good morning and you don't say good morning back. Do you not say good morning back?" It took me aback. I responded and told him I did say good morning but he shouldn't be challenging me about it. I asked for a different server they said he isn't my server. The manager and another guy were coming up. I told him, don't ever speak to me like that again. I told the manager what happened, she apologized, I told her it's not about an apology it's about how he shouldn't speak to people like that. He's a waiter, he shouldn't be getting upset over a "good morning." What ticks me off the most is 1 this is the one morning I wasn't live streaming so I couldn't play it back, but rltwo he lied just blatantly lied and said he didn't say anything other than good morning. I said so you are denying saying anything else to me. He said again, all I said was good morning and then scurried away. I turned to the manager and asked if they had cameras, she said they did, and I told her to play it back. Body language will show he said far more than good morning. I've been a faithful regular at this location for over a year. I tend to order the same meal and I always tip 20%. Faviar, Fabian whatever your name is, you're a terrible human being. It was a busy Saturday afternoon , so about a 35 mjnute wait but not too bad. The food was good! My friend got The Grizz and alt-ed for a waffle which big and soft. I got the Chizo Breakfast Burrito which came with fruit on the side and hashbrown! Sooo filling and delicious with the bear sauces on the side. My waiter, Mateo, definitely went above and beyond. Made appealing suggestions, was upbeat and personable. Didnt even have to say anything and he brought over extra waters and after we finished our mimosas and coffee and additional requests as needed. Had the bread pudding for dessert and it was HUGE. I dont have much of a sweet tooth but had to try it, very soft and warm and just ended my experience there amazingly. read more

The best part of this rest was the sweet waitress and the pepper sauce. I ordered the NY strip steak breakfast for dinner with potatoes and eggs. The steak was supposed to be medium rare. It was not seared or seasoned AT ALL. It tasted like water. The potatoes were flavorless. The eggs were good. My friend got the fish and fries which were decent. My son got a kid breakfast w/pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Couldn't really mess that up. I definitely wouldn't dine here again. read more

So we tried this restaurant on a Friday evening. Never been to A Black Bear diner, we had no idea what to expect. Upon entering we were greeted and sat at a booth. As we walked to our booth, we noticed several tables that needed to be bussed /and the carpet was dingy. Not sure why anyone would put carpet in a restaurant - anyhow, our server Michael came to take our order and he was very patient as we weren't ready. We asked for waters only while we browsed the menu. When he returned, we asked if he had any suggestions and he asked if we wanted full meals, something light etc. He made his suggestions- we both ordered the chicken fried steak full course meal. I got a side salad which was big, my BFF got soup. Our food didn't take long and arrived hot and looking yummy. We asked for extra gravy and dug in. Everything was so good. The cornbread reminded me more of a chakras it's a little sweet verses savory, but very good. Overall the food was worth every penny. At the end we ordered coconut cream pie to share. It was a big bowl, but it tasted more like a decadent vanilla pudding topped with coconut and a graham cracker base. It was good just not a real coconut cream pie. Our service was excellent- Michael is a very pleasant and efficient young man. We definitely will be back. I would have given 5 stars but didn't because of the dirty tables we passed. The restaurant was not busy but I did notice quite a few to go orders. After a very long day that did NOT include lunch but did include a paltry breakfast, a flat tire and about 15 other things going wrong, stopping by this delicious diner was balm to a very exhausting day. The server was charming and consistently checked in on us. She refilled drinks regularly and accommodated requests to put in an order for my friends daughter as soon as we sat down, then coming back for our orders. Then there's the food... seriously it was worth every maple dripped calorie. The waffle was probably the best I've ever had even without the syrup! The eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. I have absolutely no complaints about my first (and only so far) visit here. Since I eat low carb (Jabeetus, not Keto-Atkins fab diet), I was able to order a burger with no bun and get green beans as my side instead of fries. Everything was tasty! Good thing there were low carbs on my meal...I saved them for the bite of bear claw my lunch date offered. Oh gosh, good thing I didn't order my own bear claw. The whole low-carb meal rule would have went out the window right then and there. This restaurant was clean, server was attentive, drinks were refilled. I don't really have anything bad to say about my experience here. The cool part about this location is the park directly across the street. While on vacation we stumbled upon this diner for dinner. We wanted something quick and reasonably priced after a long day of exploring. This is a standard diner. You can expect normal diner style food. One of my companions ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken had broccoli in it, which was odd. The servers were friendly. Though everything was as expected I did try one of their hand dipped chocolate shakes. If you go to this restaurant I would highly recommended it. It was a true old fashioned shake. read more

Unfortunately there are few places in Laveen Az to eat and we have a family member in assisted living we try to visit regularly ,taking her to lunch, nails and hair. We are done with Black Bear. Today the burgers had NO seasoning , the bread soggy. The fries were soggy and Luke warm. The waitress can't remember her name was great. The food just is horrible. After a very rude "welcome we close at 10pm" greeting (it was 9:10pm) this location redeemed itself with a wonderful server named Phoenix and some pretty good food. My brisket was delicious and my wife was excited to get an omelette that was actually cooked well (other locations are really lacking in this skill...Tempe)! Side of bacon in many places consists of two lonely little strips, not here: you get four thick cut slices, which is about what I'd eat if I were cooking for myself. Glad to finally be able to try this restaurant, it's new to the area and the long wait times are to be expected for freshly made meal. Especially for a Saturday. If you're in a rush, head over to Mickey D's. It took us only 25 minutes to be seated and we were told 35-40 mins. I'm sure the times will decrease with age, so I can't fault the restaurant for it. It seems they are running things smoothly. I enjoyed my pancake combo with hash browns and chicken sausage. You can tell it is made to order and the fresh squeezed orange juice was wonderful. So I'm being incredibly biased in this review because our waitress LiLi and her sister Kareena had us in stitches throughout our meal. These ladies were so patient with us. We originally started with a party of four. That number increased to ten. Then to twelve and finally thirteen. And through all the additions LiLi and Kareena remained patient, polished and awesome. If you've read any of my previous reviews y'all know I have to talk about seat space ratio and compare it to my hips ratio. These seats are sturdy and wide enough to hold big bodies like mine. Space between tables can get tight so be sure you're sitting in the outside table corner to give your better spacing options. Most of us ate breakfast items. I had pancakes and bacon. Your preference to pancake density determines if you'll like this review. I like my pancakes dense and thick. The pancakes here are dense and thick and when you add that warm syrup over that melting butter and add a piece of bacon!! Lord have mercy on my A1C and my cholesterol. Y'all, these pancakes are thee bomb. No one complained about their meals, nothing had to be reheated or returned. Thirteen people. Not one complaint. I will mention one thing: if you go on a Sunday, represent your NFL team. We had fun with several hater fans, I mean Raiders fans who were talking crazy about the Cowboys. So I went to Black Bear diner for the first time today and I will never be coming back. I tend to be a little hesitant when it comes to getting breakfast food because It can really be a hit or miss this place definitely missed. I ordered Sourdough French toast that came with potatoes and eggs. I don't even know why they said that it was sourdough it didn't taste like it didn't look like it tasted like it look like something that you get from the grocery store that's premade. The eggs I got was overcook. But the thing that really surprised me the most was the potatoes the breakfast potatoes that they had were completely disgusting not edible . They were old potatoes like they had been sitting there for two days the vegetables were completely dry and burnt not edible I tried to give it to my significant other and even they didn't eat it it was an edible. Even the fresh fruit looked old and nasty . This makes me very upset and sad because I would really looking forward to having a new breakfast place of this right round from my house. Hooray!! A great new option in the area and our first impression was terrific! Went at 5:30 to get ahead of the crowd several Yelpers commented on, and were greeted, seated and ordered our dinner within five-ten minutes! We weren't being rushed, just knew what we wanted and needed to get home as our days start around 3:00 am! Hubby enjoyed the chicken pot pie and I decided to check out their hot turkey dinner in case we need a backup plan on Thanksgiving!! Boy, was it good! Mashed potatoes were fresh and a little chunky and perfectly sliced turkey breast was moist and flavorful! Turkey gravy over both (server asked first) was just right...even Mom would've complimented their gravy! I'd have taken a picture, but totally forgot after my first bite! Serving was big, brought almost half of it home...gotta have turkey sandwich tomorrow, right?! Asked about Thanksgiving day - they're open regular hours, 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and turkey dinner begins after 11:00. They don't take reservations. We have only tried from Door Dash, but I've loved everything we've ordered. Most of the food has been fresh & hot: and if it wasn't hot, it was still warmish, which is pretty good for delivery from 20 mins away. So far, have only tried breakfast items & the mac & cheese. I really like the mac and cheese, ordered that 2x now. Try the chicken & sweet cream waffle, (comes with fresh fruit cup). Only complaint is I ordered a bear claw, $5.99, & didn't receive it (I got a credit but I really wanted the pastry, dangnabbit! Lol.) Oh, and please include utensils for takeout orders.
