Everything was good, and the kids menu was quite impressive.

Light, bright, inviting, down home country style ambience. Service was friendly, and fast. We were there for brunch, and the kids menu was a good selection of items, and NOT just chicken nuggets like many other restaurants. My omelette was a generous size, and full of flavor, and easily rivaled more expensive brunch places. I was visiting this area for the first time, and I, and all of my guests, had a great meal, and I will surely come back on my next Layton area visit.

I've been back several times recently for lunch takeout when I've been running late to work and don't have any time to cook. I will say Black Bear Diner has the best sandwiches that come with a side of your choice for the most reasonable prices compared to other competitors. Their sourdough bread is simply divine and always very fresh. My latest sandwiches were the BLT (which is just your basic bacon, lettuce, and tomato). It's a decent price that came with a generous portion of fries (you can choose a different side if you'd like). Very fresh, crispy, and cooked perfectly. Also tried their Turkey Club along with their soup of the day. Turkey Club is filled abundantly but I think I'll stick to the Chicken Avocado Club next time for more ingredients at the same price. Soup of the day was very fresh and filling. Came in a sturdy secure plastic container along with saltine crackers which was a nice surprise. They are excellent on including condiments and utensils if requested. Very happy with all my recent visits to Black Bear Diner and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!

We love to come eat brunch on their patio. For some reason a lot of people don't like to eat outside, so we always get right in. Service is fast and good! And all the food is usually great!

Probably my 4th or 5th time here. Completely new wait staff, I assume also new kitchen staff and management too. The store owner should dump them all, shut the place down for a month to hire and train an entirely new team. Took ridiculously long for our order to arrive. I ordered the breakfast chicken fried steak, I got something completely different. My wife and I were both supposed to get pancakes with our order, they never came. Coffee was barely warm and gross. Very disappointing.

I want to know.. why, if the little less dinners are touted as smaller full course homestyle meal, why, I was denied my salad and cornbread muffin? No where does it say 'for an additional cost' until you click on the item? Why would you be charging for soup or salad anyways when it clearly says starts with soup or salad and a muffin? Is this a bait and switch going on? Your employees were wrong when they tried to argue with me. They were even more wrong giving me an incomplete order.

    See, a lot of it!!

Always enjoy the food, always have specials posted that are actually interesting and we're willing to try. The service is usually always nice. Every so often we have to wait (after getting several glances from the wait staff) before we're even greeted but once we are the service is good. With that being said, the food never disappoints;-) Also, this is the only place I order the orange juice because it's always fresh squeezed (the machine is visible) and you get a large glass of it! Delicious!!! ****Definitely get the Irish Corned beef Benedict! It's absolutely delicious. The corned beef is not from a can! It's fresh and shredded, the poached eggs were perfect with a runny yolk, perfect amount of sauce too. I was so excited to eat it that I forgot to get a picture of it lol. Trust me, get it.

We were seated at a table in far end of the room. Once seated it's hard to get in and out from the wall seat because the table are pretty close together. I ordered the Spinach, Mushroom and Swiss 4 Egg Omelet. They asked me if I wanted 2 or 4 eggs and I chose 4. As a substitute for the potatoes, I opted to choose the avocado which came as a slice 1/2 of avocado. For my toast option, I chose the single pancake, but could also have chosen a scone. The scone wasn't on the menu as a option, so I missed this when I ordered. My omelet was very flavorful, although a bit dense. I attributed that to the 4 eggs fitting into a 2 egg form factor, but I really don't know that for sure. The avocado was a good complement to the omelet and worked out very well. The pancake was delicious. There was syrup on the table and butter came on the plate. I gobbled it right down and thought that I maybe should have got another one. I have eaten here before when I was in the area, and will likely return again when up here. The busy nature of the restaurant is offset by the good quality food.

Paying for one meal and getting two is the kind of financial planning I can get behind. The space itself is adorable and perfect for a catch-up. Our absolute favorite thing on the menu was the Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast. It was two thick pieces of cream-cheese stuffed French toast topped with apples, caramel, crumble, and whipped cream, and you actually got two of those pieces per order, plus bacon and eggs. It was easily one of the best breakfast plates in Ogden and the main reason we kept coming back. Yesterday we came in and found out they completely removed it from the menu. Huge disappointment right out of the gate. They still have mixed berry, banana caramel, and peach versions. I can't eat the berry because of an allergy, and we've had the peach before and didn't care for it, so we tried the banana caramel crunch instead. Service was slower than usual. There's a help-wanted sign when you walk in and it looked like a new employee was being trained, so that part was understandable. What wasn't understandable was when the food showed up. The portion has been cut in half. What used to be two stuffed French toast pieces per order is now only one, but the price is the same. My wife and I have both had weight-loss surgery, so we're definitely not people who need massive portions. But cutting the plate by 50% while charging the same price just feels like a bad move. Even though we split meals we made it up by tipping are wait staff, the difference as if we would have ordered two meals, Removing a customer favorite and shrinking portions at the same time is a good way to lose longtime customers. Cute little diner, just hope the owners can rethink this issue. All things change and not always for the good. We used to recommend No Frills to everyone. After this visit, it's hard to say we will anymore or visit ourselves.

Wait staff was friendly but a little hard to hear since it's definitely got a diner vibe and it's pretty noisy. The Spanish omelette was a little smaller than I expected and a little dry. It needed Spanish sauce and cheese on the top, definitely. We got some green salsa to add. The breakfast sandwich was good. I expected the ciabatta roll to be a little more dense, as ciabattas normally are. It was more like a roll, but fresh! I think it comes from the Oakley bakery on the lower level. Definite diner vibe, as I said, but the floor was pretty dirty. Needed to be swept and mopped. When you're waiting for the hostess to check for a clean table, you're standing by the first seated table. A little awkward. All-in-all we'd probably go back.
